As always my driver was super nice and helpful. He insisted on helping me carry my awkward presents for the party I was going to. I'm of the mindset of "she who buys & wraps awkward presents should carry such presents", I also feel that way about over packing lol. However chivalry is not dead and was alive and well this beautiful morning. There was a tiny snafu in my last booking. The driver was given the wrong street (FYI - there is a Wilke & a New Wilke rd lol). It might have been my Palindrome when he called to book or whomever took the booking... not a big deal, mistakes happen. We were expecting a golf club & ended up in a subdivision. My driver was cool about it & thankfully I had brought my destination address with & we got to my location easy peasy with the help of his GPS. My driver also insisted on making sure the venue was open as the parking lot was empty & it looked closed... I had planned on getting there early to help setup. All was well but what a sweet gesture as he was worried about my safety. My driver said I should call the dispatcher to let them know about the discrepancy & I did. The first thing out of the dispatchers mouth was "is this Leah?". The driver had already called & let them know. The dispatcher was super apologetic and really nice. I felt bad because I could tell she was expecting a complete temper tantrum. As I am not 3yrs old & if a simple mistake is the worst that is going to happen today... it makes for a funny story as far as I am concerned. I reassured her all was good, she was really nice. This is why we LOVE Home James, mistakes happen but it is HOW you handle a mistake that sets you apart from the rest. read more

We've been a regular customer. We've called them for both work and family trips. Andrei has been our driver a lot of the times. He is always on time, they always help out with our luggages and very accommodating especially when my daughter was younger they would provide a car seat for her. With very little notice, he was able to arrange transport (for 5 weary travelers) to an airport in another city and help us on our way home. I used this company a few days ago for a trip to the airport as a gift to my daughter for her anniversary. My experience with booking the reservation was very pleasant. She was very pleased with the driver and service she received. Therefore, I decided to book a reservation for when she returns for a pick up from the airport. I have placed a ridiculous amount of calls in an attempt to book the reservation without success. It seems as though the calls are being transferred to another number that disconnects the calls. Finally, yesterday, an answering service picked up. I left a message for a return call, which I received. A message was left for me. When I tried to return the call, the vicious cycle repeated. Today, I tried again. Same calls forwarded to a number that disconnects the call. Finally, a rude lady answered the phone. When I asked if they are having issues receiving calls, she abruptly stated no, and with an air of annoyance, asked, "How can I help you?" At this point, my answer is, " You cannot." I will not use a company that cannot be reached when they are supposed to provide car service. I have never had such a horrible experience when trying to give a company more business. I've been using Home James to get me to and from the airport ever since I had kids around 3 years ago. Having children made it impossible for my spouse to take me to and from the airport. I thought they were good back then, but ever since merging with citation limousine more than a year ago they've become a 5 star service. They make it super easy to book a car. I basically just email them (pretty frequently) with my upcoming travel schedule and they email me back a confirmation. Easy peasy! When I land in Chicago I call them to let them know and the always courteous person on the phone let's me know who will be waiting for me and at what door. I've experienced a lot of drivers during my days with Home James they are all fabulous. I probably see Danny the most. He's reliable and a fun conversationalist. Joe is another favorite, but he seems to do more of the early morning pickups and I"ve been trying to avoid 6am flights lately. Before the merger I had the occasional issues (ex: late driver), but now they've completely got their act together. Frequent travels for work can be exhausting and it's nice I never need to worry about my ride to and from the airport. read more

Before Uber and Lyft, This black car service company was a place that I discovered when I needed to travel with my daughter. They would hold her car seat until we returned from our trips so that I wouldn't have to lug it through the airport. I booked with Home James last weekend for my boss and his two children who were arriving in Chicago Friday evening. Per their instructions, I called the Home James as soon as my boss landed to let them know he should be out at the curb soon. They didn't check any bags so I figured they would be out within 15 minutes or so. Well, something was going on with the plane and it took longer than expected for them to unload the plane. I got a call from the driver, who was very polite and gave me his direct number so that when my boss and his children were ready they could call him (instead of calling the company). Not even 5 minutes later I get a call from someone at Home James (not the driver) screaming at me through the phone every profanity known to man. I LITERALLY could not believe some of the stuff he was saying to me. Apparently his driver got a ticket while he was waiting. I'm sorry but that is nowhere near my fault, nor my boss and his children. I had to call him back to let him no that there is no way my boss would be using his services after that. Luckily they had not asked for a credit card when I booked the reservation! He started screaming at me again...this time even more profanities and terrible racial slurs! I had to hang up on him as it was seriously ridiculous what he was saying. read more

Good news - driver was on time. The rest was not so great. Driver broke so many traffic rules I stopped counting and closed my eyes. Started out by going the wrong way on a one way AFTER I had told her the car was facing the wrong direction. Her response: "No problem, is no cop here." Given the number of red lights the driver ran, she must believe they were just left over Christmas lights still left up in multiple intersections in August. Response to a suggestion that the driving was a bit dangerous were met with indignation and comment "what you police? I learn drive before I am ten years old" The open bottle of Jack Daniels in the seat back raised interesting questions as to whether prior passengers felt the need for a stiff belt given the driving. read more

These people ruined our wedding. I booked a stretch limo to take my wife and I to our hotel after our wedding, confirmed the booking the day before and the day of our wedding no limo. We called multiple times and they told us every ten minutes that a limo would show up and it never did. To top everything off they didn't contact us afterwords to even acknowledge how they were completely incompetent. The timing for entertaining a good ol' Home Jamesing couldn't have been more apropos. My 6am flight from ORD to BOS following a weekend of Pitchforking (no spooning) was not a welcome one. Originally planning on riding the Blue, I noticed the Yelp Deal for a $30 ride to or from ORD (originally $60). The stellar reviews meant one thing: transaction. Ka-ching! Called and spoke with Sal, mentioned my immediately acquired Deal and gave him the scoop. Having seen but never woken up to 4:15a, I asked if it's doable. He laughed and replied, "I just did a pick up for 3:00am. There's no time too early." Bonus. And true to form, Sal himself arrived 5 minutes early in an immaculate town car. The little cup of Fun Size Snickers fell on deaf teeth, but the mini water bottles provided welcome hydration. Sensing my zombie state, Sal dropped the volume on the radio and let me snooze an extra 20 as he navigated the barren freeways of Chicago with a smoothness that I slept through. And that is telling. When we arrived, he had my bag curbside before I could fumble my way out of the plush backseat. It was a flawless, five star trip and definite go-to for future, nightmare flights. Sidenote: There is a $15 surcharge for pick-ups made before 4:30am. Sal mentioned this as we curbed the airport, and I offered to pay, but he waived the fee because he forgot to tell me on booking. Airport transport is a tricky thing in the 'burbs. Not only are there umpteen options, but you also have to deal with a multitude of taxes and fees when in said ride. Tolls, taxes, late night fees, early morning pickup fees, seatbelt fees. Well, ok, not seatbelt fees, but you catch my drift. Home James came highly recommended to me by Andrea R, and if it's good enough for her, I figured it's certainly good enough for me. The lady has great taste. Thus, I booked a ride to and from the airport for my first trip away from the kiddo. The fellow on the phone was courteous and quick, explaining that my 4am pickup was no problem, but it would cost an extra $10. From 11pm-4:30am you'll run into this charge. No biggie, though, that's just the cost of doing business in the early morning hours, I suppose. From Arlington Heights to ORD, the smooth and clean ride (with friendly, prompt driver and bottled water!) cost me $68, all in. Yes, seems pricey - but that includes all fees and gratuity. While you may be able to score a taxi for $50 or so, you'll likely end up in a less reliable ride paying more than you bargained for. While Home James was a bit on the pricey side, I would most definitely use the service again...especially during the early morning or late night pickups/drop offs. read more

I'm pleased to have had the opportunity to ride Home James to the airport for business, yet again. My experience was perfect. My driver arrived early, which was probably a good thing since I hate saying goodbye to my kiddos (you know, avoiding the long goodbye). Regardless of him waiting, I didn't feel rushed one minute to hurry up. Pleasant, courteous and gracious. The car was clean and comfy. Small talk was left up to me, though I have no problems chatting it up. I have to say this driver had some amazing skills, because we made one stop to pick up Andrea R on the way, and maneuvering access to her drive was a challenge. I felt safe and completely trusted my driver to take good care of me. I don't know who James is, but I'm okay with him taking me to and from home any time! read more

I'm disappointed in their service. They are friendly. They are competitively priced. However, I used them for my mother's surprise 60th birthday. A surprise birthday usually means that there is an element of surprise. The driver got lost and couldn't find my mothers house. The woman dispatcher called my mom and said, "your limo can't find your house..." she was supposed to be surprised with that element!!!!!!!!!!!! To top it all off, the guy didn't even get out of the limo to open the door AT ALL. Not when she was entering or leaving at either destination. The flowers I asked them to pick up were pitiful looking Jewel-Osco flowers and they overcharged me for them. I may give them a second chance, but really....the magical element of surprise, they screwed up and ruin. read more

The Stanger finds it offensive to even think about having someone drive the Stanger around, like some fancy type. Normally the Stanger will kick a cabbies ass and just take it, (Stanger still pays for the fare plus generous tip). But not this time, Stanger and some buds were blowin' the country this winter for some fun in the sun and Latin babes. Stanger had a thought, "Let's get a little flagrant and take a stretch limo to the airport, cause that's what Don Johnson would do (Stanger's hero)." Then Stanger thought about naked chicks... The Stanger called Home James and said, "Dudes, Stanger needs a limo, 345am, to ORD, and we want to drink Miller Lites!!!!" Home James said, "Let me take down your name, last name Stanger, first name The. Got it, we'll be there." Home James showed up on time, awesome limo, made some stops for us and did everything a true professional should do. I purchased a Yelp deal for half off the limo service to or from the airport. I will first say that I thought it was a great value and I would use the service again and hope they pay attention to a few minor details. 1) The dispatcher tends to sound like she's rolling over in bed to answer the phone - could be a tad more professional. 2) The driver arrived about 15 minutes after the scheduled pick up time. Not a big deal since we had plenty of time to get to the airport, but could have presented a problem. 3) The driver was certainly competent and friendly enough, shouldn't feel like he has to make conversation, though. The driver should also help with luggage - bring it from the door, porch, etc and place into the car. Could also remove the luggage from the car and assist passengers (especially female passengers) if necessary. I would have tipped more for that. Otherwise, the car was clean and well maintained. The driver was on time picking me up from the airport and took alternative route as traffic was backed up exiting the airport. As I said, overall a good value and I would use them again. read more

Had three rides with Home James in one long weekend. In all three cases, requested an SUV or van and two boosters for my family of five. The good news is that they were punctual and friendly in all three cases. The annoying news was that the first time they only brought one booster plus a baby seat (not useful for my 7 year old). The second and third times there was not even the one booster, though in both cases I had re-confirmed. We also got a stretch limo instead of van or SUV one time... ok, but less comfortable and more embarrassing than what we wanted. I'm sure they do a solid, predictable job for regular town car service and I might well use them for that next time. But would try someone else for the family-with-booster-needs ride. read more

Full disclosure: I know Sal. Having said that, I still use and plan on using Home James in the future. (Plus, it's a great name.) I am not a morning person. It's true -- ask my mother. There have been several instances where I have needed to get to the airport at the ungodly hour of before 6am and the last thing I want to do is take the bus to the train to the airport (and oftentimes, the bus doesn't even run before 6am anyway). Enter Home James. Sal is always on time, will help you with your bags and then will let you "nap" in peace (if you so desire) while getting to the airport. Or from the airport. He'll check your flight status and make sure you get there on time or will pick you up as soon as you're out of those terminal doors. The only thing they (he?) won't do is ensconce you in flight or in your home. Which is probably a good thing anyway. read more

In the interest of full disclosure, I should mention that we've gotten to know Sal over a number of years which is how we learned about Home James... but he treats us no differently than any of the rest of his customers... Top Notch. He's tracking our flight status long before we are, and always arrives early with some hot coffee for those early morning pick ups. When we land he answers on the first ring and is waiting for us when we walk out the door. The car is always immaculate, and he'll make sure it's nice and toasty in the winter so you don't have to worry about a jacket if you're heading to a warm destination. It's the little details that give it a personal touch. We've used a number of different taxis and car services over the years, but by far the ease of mind that Sal provides is what we like the most. We know he'll be there for us no matter what happens with our flights... plus it's great seeing a friendly face when we get back home. Kudos to Home James Chicago. read more

1) I used this service once - the driver came 20 minutes late for a run to the airport. Called the owner & she apologized saying this was a new driver (back in early 2011). 2) Then we used them once more in 2011 - and she had a driver there 10 minutes early! Perfect, I thought I was in love with the car service again. Cause the cars are nice, clean, roomy and the driver was super nice. 3) Finally I used them on 2/1/12 for service to the airport. After waiting 10 minutes I walked to catch a cab - because she kept saying, just another 3 minutes... 3 times in a row. Knowing that my cab was 20 minutes the first time I wasn't about to be burned again being late for my international flight. My friend said the driver showed up 15 minutes past when he was due. Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me... will NEVER USE Home James Chicago car service ever again. I am a frequent traveler and I WAS a regular customer with Home James Chicago over the past few months However, very recently I have started to experience poor service. Not only are they unable to accommodate my schedule and have left me without a ride home from the airport on three occasions, but when I call (at a decent hour) to book a reservation for the following day, they've rudely disregarded me and told me to call back during their scheduled hours WHICH ARE NOT POSTED ON THEIR WEBSITE. So, Home James: please do not brush me off if you are not taking the time to update your website accordingly. Also, during a 4:30AM pick-up, please tell your drivers to quit making small talk unless I initiate the conversation. It's extremely annoying and completely unnecessary. When I see certain drivers that I know are chatty, my Monday morning is already ruined. While I depended on their services twice a week, every week for over 5 months, I will no longer be using this company as my preferred provider. I have no doubt there are better car services available. Hopefully reviews such as this will help them clean up their act. Nonetheless, I'm taking my business elsewhere and will tell my colleagues (also weekly business travelers) to do the same. read more

I found out about this serive through a Yelp Deal. I was traveling to NYC straight from work at 4:30am(I'm a night shifter), so I couldnt rely on the CTA, and I did not want to ride in a cab. So the yelp deal was an attractive offer. No problems with reserving a car(and arranging a pickup for my brother on the way). Sal got to my job 10 minutes early, and was pretty swift in getting us to the airport. Nice guy and not a single issue during my ride. There was a surcharge to pick my brother up($10), but that was agreeable thanks to the yelp deal savings. We still gave him a nice tip, seeing he got us to the gate before 5am. Good Service, and I recommend it for anyone going to either airport! read more

I was looking for a car service in Chicago and found Home James on Yelp. Well, the good reviews are accurate ! I had James pick me up at the O'Hare airport and take me downtown. Then we hired him to take us out for the evening, as well as return to the airport a few days later. On all these occasions Home James was easy to contact, efficient, courteous - in a nutshell, perfect service. The car was nice and clean. I use high end commercial limousine services for work all over the world, and Home James is up there with the best of them. James himself is professional and good company. My now husband found Home James Chicago via other Yelp reviews, and they were dead on - Home James Chicago was great! We used them on our Wedding Day (6-16-12) to take our entire bridal party from our hotel downtown to various locations around the city to do pictures. Our limo-liner showed up on time, was clean, had the AC pumping, and as a bonus had an ice chest filled with cold waters and other assorted drinks. The driver was very courteous, and would help all the ladies in their dresses/heels get on and off the vehicle. We wrapped up pictures a bit early due to the heat outside, but the driver offered to wait at our hotel in case we needed him further. I thought that was kind considering we were already done with pictures. If I was to ever plan an event needing transportation in Chicago again, these guys would be the first company that I would call. read more

We've used Home James 3 times now for trips to and from O'hare. Sal is definetly the best driver they have, but that doesn't mean Fabian and the other guy (I don't remember his name) weren't above average also. Drivers are very professional, friendly, and safe. Drivers load and unload all luggage, open and close doors, drive safely. These drivers definitely know their stuff, I remember once Fabian was taking us to the airport and got a call from the client he was supposed to pick up after dropping us off. Their flight had landed about 30 minutes early, and Fabian knew this. He was also able to tell us our flight was still scheduled to leave on time and how long the travel times were to the airport. The only complaints we have is that after corresponding with Liz that we would have 3 people on our last trip instead of the normal two, the drivers were completely unaware of this. The other complaint is that after tipping on the card once, and then tipping in cash the next time the driver took the cash tip and left the tip on the card (effectively double gratting himself, although probably an oversight). Word of advice, request that the driver call you the day before to confirm all the details, and tip in cash (not on your card). read more

Pick up at Ohare was relatively painless. I also liked that there wasn't the awkward small talk that mostly happens in taxis. After flying, I don't feel like chatting. The vehicle was clean. He also asked how I would prefer to go since the Chicago marathon has ended recently so there was a lot of traffic diversions. The only thing I wished for was some sort of online reservation and confirmation. There were never issues getting a hold of someone, but I like the convenience of checking these things online.
