We just completed the remodeling of three bathrooms plus some minor additional work done by Home Remodeling Center in San Marcos, and we are delighted with the results. Remodeling projects are generally disruptive, but HRC worked hard to make the process as painless as possible. Lonnie, the owner and general contractor, set the tone and provided time frames and cost. It became clear to us that he is both knowledgeable and trustworthy, and we are comfortable in knowing that if we have any concerns in the future, Lonnie and his team will be there for us. One of the pluses for us in working with HRC was that most of what we needed to do was done at the HRC facility, rather than having to shop around at various businesses. The HRC team was a pleasure to work with.. Many had good ideas that we certainly would not have thought about ourselves. Upon moving to San Marcos 10 years ago, we had a major remodeling of our home done by San Marcos's Home Remodeling Center. HRC did a beautiful job. However, a shower stall leak developed over the years and eventually became serious. When we pointed this out to HRC, they were very responsive in working with us to get this leak repaired. Unfortunately, after $60K in 3 bathroom remodels we found a toilet had been leaking which caused so much damage from upstairs to downstairs. After calling a plumber we found the damage was all caused by the company (HRC) that put in the toilet and they will not accept responsibility, they do not stand by their work and did not take care of this customer. Jesus caused us more stress than I can put in words here, so unprofessional and offensive. Just really terrible experience! We were very happy with the work done by HRC. They remodeled our Master bath and the Jack & Jill bathroom. The workmanship was excellent and the workers came ready to work every day with masks on. They were meticulous with their work especially the tile and it shows. I liked being able to pick out the fixtures/mirrors and they installed everything. Had a full master bathroom remodel done with these guys. Not a great experience. Was quoted 3 weeks to finish on the sales side and the actual took about 6 weeks, and then another 6 weeks on the backend to "replace" a sink faucet. Wasn't working after the install so we have to wait 6 weeks for Pacific Sales (also a bad experience, they recommended them and that was a miss). After the faucet came in someone came by to fix it but only needed a tool to clean the line out. Why did I wait 6 weeks again? Project Manager was unresponsive and not involved at all. Tile work took forever because they sent one guy the whole time and he kept saying they took away all his people to support. Just really poorly run and no communication. Definitely got the impression once you're under contract they lose interest in your experience. Giving it 2 stars though because we worked with Lauren on the front end with designing the look and she was great. read more

In 2012 we had our home remodeled by Home Remodeling Center and as part of the remodel had a complete renovation of the kitchen. The cabinets looked good initially and after about a year started peeling. We also had to have them come back and do some re-painting. We were pleased with the two bath rooms and kitchen counter tops. After numerous attempts to have them do something about the peeling cabinets they stoped taking our calls. The pictures show the peeling as of today. We would not recommend Home Remodeling Center to do any kitchen cabinet work. read more

I'm surprised at the negative reviews for the Home Remodeling Center. Over the last year and a half, this company remodeled my kitchen and also completed a powder room. The workers were attentive, friendly and came to work when they were supposed to and the same crew showed up every day. Our kitchen was completed within a week of original promise (incorrect window ordered) and bathroom only a day or two later than promised, but that was due to illness of a plumber, so I definitely don't hold that against them. I did not experience poor customer service nor problems with contract or payment. After multiple bids, I felt their pricing was competitive and now that we're done, the finished product is beautiful. We hired HRC to do a whole house remodel. They did a complete rebuild of our kitchen and both baths, filed in a sunken living room plus molding, flooring and painting throughout the whole house. They impressed us from the first meeting with a design consultant and project manager came out to our house. The designer blew us away with her ideas. Her kitchen design was not only beautiful but also efficient and made great use of space. She helped us pick out cabinets, hardware, countertops, back splash etc.. for the kitchen and both baths. The results are stunning!!!!! We never would have picked out the backsplash she suggested but it was exactly the right choice. Nora is amazing. Speaking of amazing... we had a complex tile design in our guest bath. Nora helped us find the right tile to get the look we wanted. They brought in their best tile guy (Gabriel) . This man is a master craftsman! The complex tile design work is absolutely perfect. Every day after he left we would go in the bathroom and marvel at the quality of his work. OUTSTANDING!! We recently had another great experience with the Home Remodeling Center from a relationship that was established eight years ago. At that time, my husband and I walked in to their showroom upon the urging of a close friend who had used them. We loved their kitchen remodel and were ready to give our home a facelift, too. We shared a basic idea of what we were looking for, had someone come out to measure, then made an appointment to go over options. The staff was courteous and knowledgeable. They asked questions about how I used my kitchen, what my priorities were, what I didn't like about my existing one, and what I was looking to achieve. They brought up points my husband and I hadn't thought of and took into consideration the needs of our big family. With six children (ages 15, 13, 12, 12, 10, and 8) we needed something functional and not one square inch of our somewhat small space could be wasted. Their designer helped us choose a granite countertop, tile, backsplash, and fixtures. She worked closely with me to make sure I kept on budget and design elements were complimentary to the space. When demolition began, the workers kept the debris to a minimum and were very respectful of our space. The project went pretty much as planned, without any hiccups. My husband is an engineer and likes to stay within a budget. Lonnie, the owner, worked with us to make sure the numbers were real. We did not have surprises that arose throughout the project. We felt he was honest and dealt with us in good character; giving us a fair price and sticking to it. We've dealt with other construction workers before and have had to bend to their time schedules, but Lonnie's crew was always on-time, worked hard, and if something needed to be arranged out of normal working hours, it was always convenient with our schedule. Our new Tuscan kitchen/dining area turned out better than my husband and I expected! It was absolutely beautiful! We were also very glad we went with Lonnie's suggestion to use the Dura cabinets. They were a little more expensive than what we originally were looking at, but after all these years with heavy use (six kids will put a test on anything in a home), they are still in great shape. They're easy to wipe down, they've kept their richness, and I have especially enjoyed the shock absorbers - no more slamming doors! The pull-out drawers are my favorite. Their suggestion of cabinet sizes and placement utilized every space brilliantly! As good as my husband and I are, I'm glad that we didn't go with our original plan. Their suggestions and knowledge of the craft were indispensable. We ended up with something far better than we originally set out to accomplish. Over the years Lonnie has become our "go-to" guy for flooring projects throughout our home; with the latest being two months ago. Their elite customer service has not changed, the integrity with which they conduct business has been consistent, and the quality of work has maintained its excellence. We just had our entire house done in laminate and carpet by Home Remodeling Center. Michelle and Lonny were knowledgeable and great in helping us choose the right flooring for our home. They were very patient with our many questions and changes we made throughout the process. The installation went very smoothly we had a great crew. My wife and I have had several bathroom and kitchen remodels over the years, and the experiences we've endured have soured us on ever doing remodeling again. Then we walked into the Home Remodeling Center in San Marcos and decided to take the plunge again. To begin with, the owner, Lonnie, is an "old school" American businessman who has been successful in this industry for decades due to his business ethic and experience that transcends other companies with which we've worked. Secondly, ALL of his crews are EMPLOYEES. Let that sink in for a moment, because that means he controls and manages everything his workmen do everyday. It also means that he has the very best craftsmen, as he doesn't employ the other kind. I learned from the guys on my work site, that loyalty to the company is paramount to them, so what you get is workmen who show up when they say they will, work straight through the whole day, and actually CLEAN UP before they go home. Nobody likes the noise, disruption, and anxiety of having workmen in your home, but Lonnie's estimate of the length of the project is spot on, which gave us a sense that the turmoil in our lives would be finite...and it was. I could continue with this review, but let me end here with a final note. The people Lonnie employs (I highly respect the specialists in his office) are knowledgeable, accommodating, and just nice people to work with, as they truly want clients to be happy with the work they do. THIS IS HARASSMENT CALLING 3 TO 5 TIMES A DAY.... I live in Ontario and I take care of my mother who is 80+ years old. Her second husband who has passed away 20+ years ago is the one they keep calling for. EVERYDAY 3 to 5 TIMES A DAY, I have tried to talk with the callers and they just hang up. Home Remodeling Center - Complete Kitchen Remodel - General Contractors Near Me - San Marcos, California

I am so sorry I didn't write this review sooner, perhaps I could have saved Jessica B's friend from signing on the dotted line or at the very least providing to her some lessons I sadly learned. My husband and I had a flood in our home and were in a very vulnerable position. We had multiple bids and selected HRC, this bid was $10,000 more than the other company we ultimately considered. However, we too had a good experience selecting the materials with Michelle and believed Lonnie when we said once he gave us a price, "the price was the price." Because we had an older home and were moving a kitchen we went with the bid we felt would cover the variables of uncertainty. Lonnie stated the higher price took into consideration issues that might come up with plumbing, electrical and structural items. This was no nickel job, our contract was for shy of $64,000. In the end we were handed a bill for an addition $17,000...yes, that is more than 25% of the original bill. We selected Dura Supreme Cabinets, they were touted as being the best available. Sadly they were ordered incorrectly and to make up for the fact that I was to have cabinets to the ceiling, I have larger crown molding and filler that would have been much more attractive had I taller ceilings. In any case, this was not what I expected but I accepted the product...that is my fault. However, after the product had been installed I noticed a defect in one of the doors. Despite the claim of lifetime warranty I am still waiting for my cabinet door to be replaced. Further, the finish is fading in several areas. I am just so disappointed!! Some of the other issues that were distressing during the process were that we would expect workers to be at our home and they would never show up. The subs would complain that Lonnie was not paying them. One foreman left our job and when the next resumed the job he had to redo most of the work that had been done initially. The second foreman installed our appliances and hacked a $3000. cabinet leaving the electrical exposed behind the wall oven and microwave. We never would have known about the exposed electrical had we not had an issue with our microwave in which an independent appliance repair man had to pull the microwave/oven from the cabinet. The foreman also made a hole in my very expensive sink cabinet to put the electrical on the bottom of the cabinet which was totally against code. Although these Items were fixed, they would not have been fixed if I hadn't been constantly calling to see when these items were going to be done. There were other issues with my tile back splash and crooked electrical outlets that were never completely corrected. Although many guests do not notice, I notice EVERYDAY! While we did not pay the additional bill, we did pay the original full contract. HRC to date has not completed the work under the original contract and my cabinet issue is still an issue. I will never recommend this company and will work diligently to make sure that others are not taken advantage of by these unethical people. I dare these people to challenge my review...I HAVE PHOTOS TO SHOW ALL THE INCOMPLETE,INCORRECT and downright AWFUL WORKMANSHIP! read more

I contracted in April 2013 for a complete remodel of a small bathroom. I have been through remodels before so I knew what was involved. I chose them because I thought it would be easier having them do everything instead of my subcontracting the job. What a mistake! It took 7 1/2 weeks to finish the job with lots delays. They could not be more interested in you before you sign but after that good luck getting them to talk to you. Always too busy. Michelle does a good job of helping you make the selections but after you contract try to get a hold of them with questions. When you finally do she tells you that they have "17 other clients and you can't expect workers to be at your house every day!" When I finally went back to talk to them in person at the showroom, Lonnie, who is in charge of construction, was totally RUDE. I had three different plumbers and two different tile people and a host of other workers who would do a little and leave. Out of 39 workable days I only had someone show up 18 of them. Many days I would not know if anyone was going to come and do anything. The bathroom finally turned out okay and most of the workers were nice but would not recommend them because of the time it took to finish and their lack of communication and poor attitude. read more

My 5-star review is based upon performance in 4 important areas: 1) Estimate and unexpected expenses; 2) Creativity in design; 3) Work done on time; 4) Respect for my home. HRC recently completed work at my home including master bathroom (removing tub and installing a walk-in shower); kitchen (stripped to walls and total re-do); fireplace (repaint mantle and total re-do of facade and threshold); bannisters on stairs (light pine color to deep tone); half-bath (remove banjo design with new cabinet and counter top); and upstairs guest bath (new cabinets and counter top). Yes that's lots of work which certainly qualifies me to have a deep level of experience with HRC. 1) Estimate and unexpected expenses: Loved the detailed estimate showing cost of each step of the process and both labor and material costs. This level of transparency impressed me. Although there were a couple of unexpected bumps in the process (unexpected need to re-route pipes for example) there were NO cost add-ons. 2) Creativity in Design: I had ideas on what I wanted done but no specific thoughts on colors or designs. Michelle and others took my current colors and styles and created masterpieces! 3) Work done on time: I'm the crazy one that had work done during December! Supervisors and workers showed great collaboration and kept me updated along every step of the way of this large project. 4) Respect for my home: Because all who worked on my home were paid directly by HRC (Yes, there were no subs of subs, etc. like some do) everyone treated my home as my home, not just some workplace. After just a few days I felt totally comfortable leaving my house in their care even when I stepped away for hours at a time. They even sent in a cleaning crew when the work was completed--at no additional charge! Lonnie, Michelle, Nora, Chris C, Mitch, and all others were great! We just went through an extensive remodel project with HRC. All the flooring throughout the house was replaced, alone with baseboards, door trim and a total kitchen redesign. Construction by nature is messy and can be unpredictable but now that we are done I can give HRC a glowing review. They kept in close contact with us throughout the entire project and did their best to make this as pain free as possible. The quality of ALL materials (flooring, cabinetry, countertops exceeded our expectations. The staff that was in our home for over 7 weeks were very responsive, professional and respectful of our home. Lonnie has a great team from conception through completion.
