i was introduced to Home Slice by a friend of mine who attended The University of Toledo. While visiting for a weekend, my friend told me about a really good pizza place that I should check out while in town. Living in Chicago, where people's passion for pizza borders on religious fervor, I wasn't expecting much. When I got there, i was pleasantly surprised. I loved the thin crust and the delicious sauce. The bartenders were slightly surly but the great pizza and the cheap beer made up for it. So far, this is the best pizza in downtown Toledo. There's better pizza elsewhere in the city, but Home Slice makes the best pizza downtown. Attempted to order pizza delivery to our hotel but the employee was rude, abrupt and laughed at us while telling us that they no longer deliver! We were visitors to Toledo and was searching for pizza places that would deliver at 9:45 pm and searched Yelp to get answers which stated that this place delivered or had carry-out. I came in with a group of my friends tonight and I was very much shocked at how rude James was. He didn't greet us, he simply said "if you're dining in go upstairs". Home Slice Pizza is one of the best NY Style (thin crust) pizza options in the city. To me the mark of a good pizza place is their cheese pizza and Home Slice doesn't disappoint. The oversized, thin slice pizzas are reminiscent of "buy-by-the-slice" vendors. Don't let the size designations fool you, the lack of thickness in the slices makes it hard to fill up. Bought the 10 for 20 deal and so I ordered a large pepperoni and pineapple with an order of wings. The order came out to 19.73 and so I didn't have to pay anything extra. Fabulous vibes and great pizza. We ordered the spinach and artichoke cheesy bread and the buffalo chicken pizza. The cheesy bread was the best we ever had and the flavor of the pizza was spot on. Our service was exceptional which was nice even though it was really crowded. This is a cool little place. As soon as you walk in the kitchen crew welcomes you and thanks you as you leave leave. Seating is limited as one might expect and barriers are set up throughout the dining area. The pizza was excellent on both our our visits, the staff friendly+attentive and most importantly the dining area was clean. I've had multiple people tell me to try this pizza place, me and my family went two days ago and it was one of the worst experiences with pizza I've EVER had.... First of all I should've taken a picture but ended up throwing away the other HALF yes a whole half of pizza. Very wasteful I know I was very upset since times are tough and no one likes to waste food.. I'm on my second day of very bad sickness of FOOD POISONING yes food poisoning. There margarita pizza messed my stomach up DO NOT get it I've been puking all day and night, can't attend any of my school classes or even get up to help with my kids because I'm so so sick from that pizza. Please save your money and don't buy that pizza it's not even a traditional margarita pizza it's like a cheese pizza with olive oil as the sauce which olive oil spoils very fast the tomatoes looked like can tomatoes and the cheese was normal cheese like on a cheese pizza... all I can say is this is NOT the spot especially if you're trying to get good pizza. The crust was burnt and falling apart never got refills or any sides that's we asked for as in sauces definitely won't be going back. read more

I live a few blocks away from this place downtown. I've been disappointed with this restaurant before but the two places we wanted to eat at, Kengo & The Durty Bird (both great places to eat), were full so we decided to stop in. At the time, there were about 15 people in the upstairs lounge. There were 2 or 3 people working upstairs and finally a server came over about 8-10 minutes later to greet us and give us menus. We ordered quickly and got our chicken wings within about 10 minutes. We asked for silverware and our dipping sauces and waited. Then the pizza came about 5 minutes later, still no silverware or dipping sauces. Another ten minutes passed so I decided to eat a piece of the sloppy pizza as is. Although I kept giving the server across the bar the eye, he never came back by again. To make matters worse a really trashy group came in to sit at the bar near our table. This women then took a chair from our table without even asking, and made a rude remark about my boyfriends haircut for whatever reason, as we were just sitting there drinking beer staring at the food we couldn't eat. The couple then continued to be pretty obnoxious, with the women and her boyfriend arguing about her rude behavior. After about another few minutes we finished our beer and finally the server came back to ask if we wanted another. We asked for a box and a check. We took the pizza and wings home where we had our own sauces and beer ready without rude obnoxious people and bad servers. We weren't the only ones getting bad services as I heard someone else talking to the servers about the slowness, and the serves saying they were "trying" and that working there they only make money off of tips. I would suggest if that were the case they should have given better service. My boyfriend left a tip, even though there was no other service provided than them delivering our food. $40 later the experience was terrible and over-priced. We would have had better food and a better experience just ordering Vito's at home. read more

To preface, we've only eaten downstairs and out on the back patio, not upstairs, and we seem to go at odd hours, late afternoon or early evening. The first time we tried here, the pizza was okay, kinda pricey for what we got, we had to wait forever for our drinks as the one guy there had to run upstairs to get anything. Growing up in NY and NJ, I wouldn't exactly call this authentic NY pizza, but everyone seems to have a different opinion, so I won't comment on that. When we finally got our food and everything, the guy serving us from the counter let us know that it was the end of his shift. Uh, okay, does that mean we need to leave...? Is someone else coming to takeover for you...? Not really sure, it was just kind of awkward. The second time we went, wanting to try again as we lived close by and wanted to like this place, we brought our 2-year-old, who's mostly well-behaved. We started inside, then moved to the patio so he could be a little more free. We ordered the BBQ pizza, again had to wait for our drinks as our server had to run upstairs, then the buffalo pizza came out instead. We tried it, and it was fine, but too spicy for the munchkin. We pointed this out to our server, he didn't exactly know what to do. My husband munched on it a little longer and bit into something hard either plastic or glass, not sharp, but not supposed to be in pizza. A very nice man, we assume was some sort of manager came out and let us know that he was making us a BBQ. I was a little impatient and wary at this point, but the BBQ came out with an apology from the manager-type guy. Right off the bat, I have to tell you, this is the best Margherita Pizza I have ever had. If you don't know this kind of pizza is a standard in Italy and you could say is THE Pizza. Whatever, it tastes great! In 1889, during a visit to Naples, Queen Margherita of Italy was served a pizza resembling the colors of the Italian flag, red (tomato), white (mozzarella) and green (basil). This kind of pizza has been named after the Queen as Pizza Margherita (from Wikipedia) So, this pizza parlor is hard to find but we'll worth the effort. They have a Moderately stocked bar upstairs, nothing fancy but comfortable at the bar with a few TVs for the best game. It is a nice place to grab a beer and have some great pizza pie. We got the Margherita Large and enjoyed it between two of us. People who are of average eating ability, I don't think this is enough to feed four people as the crust is thin, the way it should be. The flavor is incredible between the cheese and olive oil and slight amount of sauce. Thankfully, they don't ruin the wonderful crust by drowning it. I was very hungry so I ended up getting the cheese bread appetizer after and that was great too. Funny thing is that the appetizer cost about 1/3 of the price of the pizza but had about 80% of the amount of food. If, no, when I go back, and I will be going back, I will start off with the appetizer then have the pizza too. I would think that would be plenty of food for three average guys. Maybe, enough for two couples. The price of the pizza was a tad expensive until I tasted it, but when we added the cheese sticks I thought the value was well worth it. I would highly recommend this place to all of my friends. The bar is upstairs and would be hard to find unless you knew there was a bar there, just go in the front door and goto the back and you will see the stairs. They do have an outdoor patio but it was too cold for anyone to be out there, it didn't look too amazing but what bar patio is. The people hanging out at the patio make it, so take about a dozen of your most fun friends with you. Overall, one of the finds of the year for me, I will be back. Update: I have been there about a month ago and this place aims to please. We ate on the second story balcony which is the smoker's hangout but it didn't bother us. BUT in my opinion to get the very best from this pizza you need to eat at the restaurant when it comes out of the oven. OMG this pizza is so great! The worthless driver went to the wrong location (even though the address was correct), "waited 20 minutes", "called 3 times" (received not a single call), and then "ditched the food" because that's what he was "instructed to do." I got an email shortly after asking to call to check the status of my order, at which time I got the great news that the food I had already waited an hour on wasn't actually going to be coming anymore. His only response was, "don't worry, you'll get your refund, and "you can always order again". Wait another hour to potentially have my food thrown out again? No, thank you.
