My coworkers put me on to this spot a couple of years ago, so shame on me for just getting around to my review... As others have said, this is a Black owned establishment that serves a community without many sit down options. I'm really pleased that they do a great job with service, food quality and price point. HSH doesn't have an extensive list of options, so they're able to do what they do pretty well. For appetizers, I've only had the fried green tomatoes. Pretty flavorful, especially with the sauce. In different visits, I've ordered salmon and grits, shrimp po boy, salmon and grits. All of them solid choices. At one of our "working lunches" we opted for adult beverages to take the edge off of an especially trying day lol. Sturdy drinks indeed. Heard about this place from a coworker. From the outside, the restaurant looks like an old Wendy's, and the décor is pretty average. However, the service and food were top-tier. I wish I had taken pictures of the food--we ordered the fish and grits, lamb chops, and a breakfast sandwich on a croissant, and everything was excellent. Saw this place on Instagram and Yelp and the reviews seemed fairly good. We decided to go on a Friday around 11. Called on the way up from DC to check the wait times and was told they do not advertise them and that we would just need to come in. Odd to me but we had business in Baltimore anyway so we kept going. When we arrived we could tell this use to be an old school Wednesdays which wasn't a problem. Everyone starts somewhere. They have a grass wall backdrop outside for pictures. We walked in and they have several tables. They have a 4 couch waiting area with sofas fo 3 in a square shape. It's cute on the inside. I can tell they tried. We were told the wait wouldn't be that long. Maybe 20 minutes which wasn't bad. So far so good but downhill after that. Several tables cleared out however we were still waiting. We noticed there was only one person to clean the tables. There were several clean tables open however we weren't being seated. We then noticed there was only one waiter working for approximately all 20 tables they had. We were immediately alarmed. About 10 minutes go by and we were able to place our orders. We ordered the Brunch Board for 4 which came with 4 cut waffles, fruit, 4 French toast slices and 4 deep fried donuts. The food didn't take long to arrive and we immediately saw why. Mostly everything was COLD. The presentation of the board looks really nice however the food seems like it's either pre made or just not fresh. The waffles were cold. Butter didn't even melt. The French toast was also cold and stiff. The fruit was delicious in the center. The deep fried biscuits were good and warm. That is probably why everything else was cold. I also ordered a side of bacon that tasted fresh out the grocery store. It even looked cheap. The eggs were hard as well. Overall I had high hopes. This place has potential but they are short staffed and the food could use a pick me up. She told me they were baked and then fried, without breading. Cool. So I asked, "Is it possible to have them fried?" First visit was June 1st and the food was phenomenal. It was so good, I asked to speak with the manager to give her real time compliments on the service and food. I dined with four friends and we also just about ordered different items so we could try as much as we could. We watched the same tables remain empty whilst waiting over an hour. Multiple people went inside to attempt to be seated but they were also told the same thing. Some opted to wait like us, but many left. Over an hour later we finally receive a text message saying the table is ready, even after watching other groups put their names down after us and be seated before us. We go inside and we still have to wait almost 10 minutes to be seated and another 10 minutes of the host coming to take our order, because our server was too busy. Our server walked by us 3 times and said she would be over in a minute, and that was before any greetings or anything. Now on to the food. Bacon egg n cheese 7/10 Not worth the price with no sides or anything Brunch board for 2 5/10 It looks aesthetically pleasing, but the waffle was hard, the "deep fried biscuits" taste like an old fashioned donut, the French toast was okay, but the fruit in the middle was good. Grits 0/10 I do not like chicken broth nor heavy cream in my grits, if you're going to add chicken products to your grits, please advise your customers ! Very disappointed with my experience today. While I was seated eating, a cockroach crawled up my pants leg. I didn't notice it myself at first the table next to us pointed it out. An employee then swept it up, so multiple people witnessed what happened. What bothered me most wasn't the roach itself. Things happen. It was how the situation was handled afterward. The manager would not come speak to me directly and instead kept sending other employees to relay messages. I was then told that the cameras didn't see anything and that there was no proof, despite witnesses at the neighboring table and the fact that an employee literally swept the roach up afterward. This isn't about compensation. It's about customer service, accountability, and basic respect. If a customer has a concern serious enough to involve a roach crawling on them while they're eating, the least management can do is come out, listen, and address the situation personally. I left feeling dismissed rather than valued as a customer. Hopefully this feedback encourages better handling of concerns in the future. read more

My husband and I went for Sunday brunch at about 10:30. It wasn't crowded at all. We were immediately seated. It's an interesting esthetic. The front gives you a Burger King vibe with the several cashiers ready to take your carry-out order. The dining area receives lots of natural light with flowers hanging from the ceiling in the rear of the dining area. My hubby had chicken and waffles. He had a choice between several flavors of wings and chose the buffalo wings. This was unusual for me as most chicken and waffles come with fried chicken and no selection of flavors. Well, my hubby devoured these wings. I was wondering if he was going to come up for air. Needless to say, he really enjoyed them. He said the waffle was good. I had salmon and grits. The salmon was seasoned well and cooked moist just like I like it. The grits were perfect except for the cheese. I would have liked a bit more cheese. The portion on both dishes is ample. I ended up taking some home. I also ordered a biscuit. Nothing special about the biscuit. When it came it was cold and had melted honey butter poured over it. I was not feeling the butter poured all over the biscuit and it really didn't look like butter. It looked more like a glaze. I spoke to our waitress, and she bought me out a hot biscuit with butter on the side. I have read other reviews complaining about the service, but our waitress was friendly and accommodating. I came here with my friend after church on a Sunday afternoon. I did call the night before to see if I could set up a reservation. The young lady on the phone said she would have to ask her manager. I declined and opted to just walk in since it would only be two of us. She got there before me and out our name on the list. We waited altogether for about 20 min. We had to point out a clean table for two to get seated. I think the hostess may have been a little overwhelmed. I thought it was convenient how you order and pay through the "app". It's a QR code on the table and you place your order that way. She had chicken and waffles and I had the shrimp and grits. The shrimp and grits were seasoned very nicely a tad bit salty though. It had about 4 medium sized shrimps and 3 slices of sausage. The grits were cooked nicely and I definitely would get this dish again. I only tasted the chicken from my friends dish and although it was crispy it was not seasoned at all. The honey saved the chicken. We had a few drinks. Nice set up where the old Wendy's use to be. There is a little lounge type set up at the front of the dining area. I dont really think that is needed. Could be used for a couple more tables in case of a nice crowd. Walked right in and seated immediately. You place your order through a scan code and then wait for the crew to bring you your food. I got my regular drink first but then offered some water. Based on what I saw before and after, the water should have came first. I started with the honey jack party wings. $14 for 6 wings is a bit pricey. I got the wings fried hard which was good but they could have used more sauce. The sauce was drizzled over the wings after being friend. For that price, the whole wing should have been sauced. My main dish was the shrimp fried rice. A good portion of rice with large shrimp. The shrimp came with no tail shells. Thank goodness! Would have liked a little sauce or some soy sauce to put on the rice but other wise a good taste. Meal was paid for but I needed a to go plate. Was waiting around for a while and no staff came to check on me or how I was doing, had to get up and walk to the counter to ask for a to go container. Good music playing. Not too loud. I was so excited to try this place a few weeks ago. I had wanted to come there for a while. Being in my 50's, I really needed to go to the restroom as soon as I got there (IYKYK), and left my partner standing upfront hoping to find a menu. While I was in the restroom a tall, thin, scowling black woman with an attitude, spoke harshly to him saying, "you need to buy something if you're using the bathroom."
