I found this place by accident the first time I visited and now I'm hooked. Delicious food, relaxed environment, friendly people that take their time explaining all the dishes. It is a hidden gem. I'll be back again!!

Great services even when busy. All the items we have tried are very good. We try something new each visit & have not been disappointed yet. Smaller restaurant with big feel even when busy.

Busy on a wed evening but staff was attentive and food was delicious as usual. I usually come for the tofu soup or the cold buckweed noodles. Good value for all the yummy side dishes.

We had a really long day and thought a Korean restaurant would be quick and easy, especially with side dishes. However, this place took such a long time, almost 2 hours to serve the food. The side dishes didn't come out until the very end. There was only one large party other than us when we first got there. Another family came in, and they were also waiting until we were done with our food for their order. Disappointing. We got the stone bowl bibimbap, seafood pancake, and tofu soup, but none of it was remarkable. No refills on the side dishes either.

This is as authentic as it gets! THE OG Korean food spot of Anchorage. Super friendly staff that were very welcoming in such a tiny cozy location. The food comes with almost a dozen small plates of various kimchis, and other tasty dishes like tofu, and lotus. The combo of the rice and kimchi is very filling so don't be surprised when you get full after just a few bites! The flavors were amazing and incredibly complex, love the pork belly they serve here. Overall fantastic experience and to top it all off I once accidentally left my wallet and didn't realize it until 2-3 hours later, I called them up and the staff held onto it for safe keeping! So thankful to have eaten at an incredible restaurant with incredible food and hospitality! Easily earned a loyal customer who will be back guaranteed!

This was an excellent and authentic Korean restaurant. One of my coworkers was craving some galbi-tang so he picked this spot. It's fairly small inside but I did notice that there were a lot of people picking up take-out. The lady who seated us, also served us. She was very friendly. I wanted to try something new so I thought a Goat Stew sounded interesting. My order, the Goat Stew, came out in a hot, boiling bowl. It was a little spicy but fit perfectly with the flavor. The broth in itself could have been a little more favorable, but the vegetables/meat ratio was very good. We also ordered Mandoo and a Green Onion & Seafood pancake. They were both really delicious.

We were visiting Alaska for the first time and had a craving for Korean food with the family. We saw the great reviews on Yelp and decided to give this place a try. Started off with the seafood pancake (haemul pajun). Nice crisp good flavor-could have used more seafood in it. Pork bulgogi (dwaeji bulgogi). Not my favorite marinade, was maybe a little sweeter than my taste buds prefer, but tender with a mild spice. Squid stirfry (ojinguh bokkum) really enjoy the flavoring. Good combo of peppers, onions, cabbage, and the pieces of squid were tender The standout was the budae jigae (army stew)! It filled the 4 of us easily. Great layering of all the flavors-the broth was complex and delicious. It was Korean comfort food at its greatest. Would definitely order this one again.

Tofu soup, bulgogi, fried dumplings and sides

Tried dining in possibly the first time ever- if we've been here before it's been years. Located in a mini strip mall across from Carr's Aurora on the west side. Best fried dumplings we've had... and we wanted to take home the sauce made for dipping them in! The bulgogi I had was so tender and delicious, and I liked all of the little side dishes our orders came with. My husband got the tofu soup which he loved. The service was great too, very attentive and helpful. We almost said "see you tomorrow!" Haha, we might actually go back tomorrow...

When you've got that craving for some bibimbap, this is the place to throw down! Lots of tasty side dishes. I think we had 9. The kimchi was the freshest and tastiest I have ever had. It wasn't as bitter and pungent as others. My wife said it was the freshest she has had since she lived in Korea. Fresh hot tea. While I was enjoying my clay pot of Korean perfection, the wonderful lady serving the whole restaurant brought out a grill to make Korean barbecue. The vegetable and pork belly looked and smelled delicious. Next time I'll order Korean barbecue. This isn't a fly in and out place. Sit down, enjoy the pictures and the fish tank. Sip on your tea. Service is a little slow, but the quality is well worth the wait. And if you make eye contact with the serving lady, she'll be right there ready to please!

Homemade kimchi dumplings and kalbi beef. Awesome!
    Justin H.

I really enjoyed the food from Home Town Restaurant. I had kimchi dumplings and kalbi beef. It was a picture perfect dish and the flavors were very well defined. I love beef and probably eat too much meat, but it was the kimchi dumplings I couldn't stay away from. I think I ate half of them before I even tried the kalbi beef, but once I did I was very happy. The kalbi beef is delicious, but doesn't stand out as exceptional like the kimchi dumplings. I finished off the kalbi beef in the first sitting, but I think I'll try something else with my kimchi dumplings next time. I'll be back!

And the BANCHAN!!! Omg!!! Take a look at my pics! They were endless! So many different delicious types and many of the roots and vegetables were hand picked from the area! The interior felt like a traditional Korean restaurant. Nothing fancy and plenty of room for a larger party. We enjoyed the meal so much that we put it into our itinerary to stop by again for our last meal before leaving Anchorage! I highly recommend!

Those fermented side dishes were the stars, until the bibimbap came out. The clay pot was more a large plate, but it was HOT and it made the rice exactly like I like it: crispy on the bottom and soft on the top. All the accoutrements were tasty and blended well with the rice and sauce. I wasn't sure what each of them were, so I tried a little bit at a time. They all had some unique savory flavors. In the end I mixed them all together for a final flash and bang of flavor. Service was excellent. Maybe the owner, maybe the manager was also seated at the bar and he stopped by at the end of my meal to ask about everything. Friendly and professional. The restaurant is clean and has great lighting. When one walks in, the bbq side is to the right and there is a bar area to the left. There is both tables and bar seating.

Always look at newest reviews!!!…read more We saw the 4.4 red stars and thought this was gona be an amazing place. The first red flag was 1pm on week day and there was only 3 parties in the place. The one and only server was very nice, but being the only one, twice when new parties entered he would walk away. Wife ordered chicken katsu rice plate. The overall theme is everything is bland. EVERYTHING.. Her cabbage slaw/salad had a white creamy sauce, my best guess is mayo mixed with ranch but only if both was every kind of free there is, fat, sugar, carb, keto, and most importantly, taste FREE. Her rice was purple, there were purple chunks, not sure if it was potato, the rice was mushy, wet, and Bland. Her kutsu sauce was made from the same everything free ingredients. Come on man, Kutsu sauce is 3 ingredients and all three are bold flavors, how do you mess that up. But ok, they want to be fusion, maybe add some cilantro or chili. She asked for soy sauce and salt to try and add some flavor. Half way through she has me hold out my hand and pours a handful of the "salt" from the shaker. It was not salt granules, almost looked like a salt substitute. I honestly don't know what it was but when I tasted it I would be extremely generous by saying I got a 25% salt flavor. Normally, you put 2-4 tablespoons of salt in your hand and lick your finger, when you taste that, you get a powerful punch in the mouth of dam, that's salty. I was dumbfounded, if they are using that "salt" to cook with them makes since why everything is so bland. I don't want to repeat the Bland Bland Bland theme over and over. I had bulgogi, kutsu, and BBQ chicken tacos. I will skip to the end- yep, you guessed it, Bland. We did have the bulgogi egg roll, I do want to touch on this only because I was so mad at myself once we left I dug Into the reviews. These are one of the most positive commented items, BUT those comments are from over a year ago. Overall, 11$ for two small egg rolls cut in half is ridiculous. Then if you bite/taste just the egg roll, there is a 5% taste of bulgogi sauce. Which again is so explosive of a sauce. But, If you drown the egg roll in the creamy mild sriracha sauce then the egg roll is ok. If you forget what it should taste like and just concentrate on how did they make the sauce with no heat, then you could get at least a 2-2.5 star. Server deserves 5 stars, Food deserves 2 stars.

Certain items may be on the pricey side (which is often unavoidable when you import items into Alaska), but overall I find the merchandise is priced reasonably. If you manage to grab them before they're sold out, try the Korean food - they sell kimbahp and jokbal near the register, and there is banchan towards the back. They even offer some of the less mainstream Korean treats, which is a pleasant surprise. I do wish they had more snacks, drinks, and sweets, but their overall merchandise range is diverse, and the vegetables appeared fresh. Definitely worth taking a peak if you're not intimidated by non-English signage.
