I think the best dish Silk has to offer, in my opinion, is their Tempura. It's cooked to almost perfection. They do need to work on their ambiance and quality of the sushi. I feel like they take way too long to bring the food out when you order in. Last time I was here, my order sat around for almost 15 mins and it wasn't that busy. I think this place could use a lot of work in terms of the freshness of the sushi as well. They seem to get to go orders right, but dine in doesn't feel like it's prioritized quality wise. read more

Contrary to the other reviews, I did not have poor service here. My chief complaint is the food. The spicy tuna roll was huge and I don't mean many pieces... My bf got his food first which made me thought my food was coming. But no, 30minutes or so went by & still nothing. Clyde made this experience unforgettable! Supporting family businesses is one of my missions and Silk definitely deserves to be recognized! I really enjoyed the egg drop soup and cheesecake tempura! The heartbreak jalapeño was too hot for me, but be sure to try this if you like hot. The sushi was not my favorite sushi in town, but very enjoyable! I loved the little salad with crab sticks that came with the roll - that was different and a nice surprise. The Ruby Shyne is named after Clyde's daughter and is full of surprises! Must try!!!!! Clyde showed us some of the non-sushi dishes and they are gigantic portions that made my mouth water. One good experience, one infuriating one. When you show up and there's no handicapped parking space marked, you dont want a manager to tell you " they can park anywhere" or if they're there earliest they can get the spot in front of the restaurant. Or that "a homeless person must have stolen" the handicapped parking sign. Or that it's my job to call the property manager. Awful attitude last night. One good visit a year ago. We came here with our two young kiddos. They need to do some serious dusting above the sushi bar. Lots of big dust bunnies hanging off the lights. We had a server who forgot to bring the drinks, then the miso soup, food came out awkwardly, one dish at a time. My poor kids were so hungry. Underwhelming. I came here today for lunch with my mom. We shared the three king-sized egg rolls which were just okay. I ordered the chirashi which was woefully small, especially given the price. The cuts of fish were small and not the best quality. By contrast, my mom ordered spicy seafood noodle soup which came in a huge bowl and required two takeout containers to take home. Strange how inconsistent the portion sizes are. The housemade unsweetened iced tea was very good. What was strange was it came in a large takeout bowl with a straw poked through the top. A little inconvenient since the drink doesn't fit in car drink holders if you're getting takeout. Also, their online menu prices are outdated. The online lunch menu says chirashi is $20, but when we went it was $24. It also only came with miso soup, no salad as the menu states. If you're going by the online menu, expect to pay some extra dollars. Since my spouse is observing lent, (no meat Fridays till Easter), I wanted him to take a break from fried fish sandwiches. Im glad we went with Silk. Solid sushi option. Tons of yummy rolls and appetizers to choose from. Rice was cooked well. Fish was fresh. Their shrimp fried rice was refreshingly flavorful. Presentation was great even for take-out/door dash. Not bad, but not amazing. I got broccoli beef takeout. It was a bit too sweet for me. I had to cut it with lots of hot sauce for it not to be cloying. It wasn't bad though. Maybe I got a weird item? Maybe I should've gotten sushi? I don't know, I'll try again in a few months. read more

Egg drop soup that came as a starter was good. I had the Chirashi Plate and SMT Nigiri for dinner. They were good. The Chirashi plate is quite small compared to others around town. Said it came with salad, did not get that - no big deal The service was average for what you get these days. Took a few minutes to get a menu. I had to get my soy sauce dish off the sushi bar after my food was delivered. I was one of 3 tables at 8:30p, assumed they would be quick with the tab, but I waited 10 minutes after finishing my food to get the bill (all staff was busy on side work, no one at tables) and had to interrupt the side work to get it. I came down here for dinner with a friend this weekend. Silk Sushi Bar is located at the corner of Benson and Denali directly across from the Midtown Mall and next to Oreck's Vacuums in a tiny shopping center. The dining area has a more upscale look with dark gray walls, comfortable leather booths, and a centralized sushi bar in the middle area where you can watch the chef in action. A server gave us a friendly greeting and seated us at a booth with a clear view of Benson Blvd....(and a front row seat watching a souped-up Mazda being pulled over by the police for speeding directly across from us in the mall parking lot. Saturday night, right?) Our drink orders were taken right away as we started to peruse the large menu. There was a wide selection of sushi rolls with creative names along with a decent selection of Chinese and Korean dishes in their dinner menu. After a few minutes, I decided to go with the Baked Salmon Roll (cream cheese, roasted garlic, mayo, and salmon). The Las Vegas Roll (cream cheese, avocado, crab, and assorted fish with a fried tempura roll topped with house sauce and tobiko) looked good as well and one I would try on my next visit. My friend decided on Jajang Myun (udon noodles stir-fried with shrimp, pork, squid, scallops, and mixed veggies with black bean sauce). The wait was reasonable at around 15-20 minutes while more diners showed up for the dinner rush. The Baked Salmon was phenomenal. The chef didn't hold back on the roasted garlic which was a delicious combination with the cream cheese and salmon. My friend enjoyed her noodle dish which came with plenty of fragrant ginger strips sprinkled atop the noodles along with a large amount of black bean sauce in a separate bowl to top it off. This was my first time here since I never slow down at this portion of Benson Blvd. due to all the speeding traffic. I will definitely come back again to try the Las Vegas Roll and the Garlic Chicken off their Chinese menu. read more

Tried to eat at Silk with my wife two previous dates and stood at the reception area for 15-20 minutes each time waiting for someone to say something to us. We walked out after no acknowledgement by their staff both times, the last time swearing not to come back. With my favorite Anchorage sushi restaurant closing recently, thought I would try again but with take out. When I arrived, I could see my food ready near the register but similar to my previous experiences, their staff didn't acknowledge me for 15 minutes after arriving. They actually tried to seat the party that arrived after me before helping me and were cold and short with me when they finally got around to helping me. The food was underwhelming at best. The chirashi came with only 7 pieces of fish for $24 and the white fish had a not so fresh taste to it. The spider roll looked like a basic california roll and upon deconstruction of one of the pieces, I found a hint of soft shelled crab but mostly fake crab, rice and vegi's. None of the food was great or even close to my expectations and this will certainly be my last time going to Silk. read more

i am from seattle, and was on a family vacation with my six children. we wanted sushi for dinner and decided this restaurant looked exceptional. as we entered the restaurant, we noticed the customer service was very poor. when i walked in to the front desk, the lady working there was sitting on her cellular phone and ignoring me. hygiene of the staff was also very bad. the lady who was on her cellular phone was also biting her fingernails. when she finally seated me, i noticed how poorly made the furniture i was sitting on was. it's almost as if this restaurant was meant to be a dump. but i pushed through it and was hoping at least the food would be good. it was, at first. the salmon gave me and my children food poisoning for 6 days. we were throwing up violently for the remainder of my vacation. this restaurant has destroyed and broken my family. read more

I have literally never posted a Yelp/google review before.. First of all the food is absolutely amazing. I grew up in California and this may be some of the best sushi that I have ever had. Second, the service is always impeccable (even when busy). Thirdly, this is a family run restaurant who you can tell pour their heart and soul into this place. Above all though, I respect the fact that the owner/ manager Clyde not only runs a fine establishment but also mentors his employees and encourages them. But to reiterate- food is amazing, service is excellent and you are supporting a local business. They have earned my $ every single time I will be in Anchorage without a doubt. Keep up the good work!
