Arrigato is rated above average on google and yelp so decided to give it a shot. Food was decent, sushi seemed fresh although a little bland. Give the sushi a 3.5 out of 5 though. The restaurant itself is somewhat dingy. The booths have duct tape on them. The baseboard around the floor looks disgusting. The drop ceiling has tiles and frames askew, the bathroom has rust on handles, the carpeted floor needed replacement 20 years ago and the place has a very "cheap" vibe which takes away the overall experience quite a bit. However, if you can withstand the dinginess, you won't be too disappointed with the food. read more

I have been coming to Arigato for years, and have more favorite dishes than I can count. I love tempura and sushi, and almost have to begin wiith miso soup no matter what. Very recently I was there with many relatives for a family birthday celebration. We were all treated like family, and given a very special sushi creation which everyone loved. No problem with dietary limitations either. Service is always quick and welcoming. Arigato is a happy place to eat, and it is impossible to leave hungry. read more

12/5/2025 We've been looking for a new favorite Japanese restaurant and we finally found it. Arigato is a very nice quiet place for having absolutely the best sushi anywhere. We started with an included salad and miso soup along with a cup of delicious tea. Then came a seaweed salad. I opted for the deluxe sushi combo and my wife had a smaller tuna and salmon sashimi combo. We also ordered a crunch roll along with a couple of glasses of wine. Long story short... super good/ atmosphere was great/ service was amazing... will definitely be back next weekend read more

Randomly wanted sushi and stumbled into this place. Service wasn't fast but stuff kept coming out the kitchen (soup, salad, edamame, rice) and we were spoiled with a ton of great food. I ordered Shrimp Yakisoba and I asked for spicy, it was excellent and fresh. We shared the Volcano and Spicy S.M.T. Rolls. Volcano was light on the tempura which made us all happy. S.M.T. was very creamy and had a light spice. They served us a dessert that had light tempura and melted in your mouth. Total was $64 + tip. read more

Domo arigato, Mr. Roboto... domo... domo... (robot movements) I love this restaurant because I've got history with this place. I used to come here all the time with my mom about 15 years ago. We really enjoyed our time here for the food and conversation and we liked the couple running the place. Fast forward and I decided to revisit it and found it to be just as it was before with the same folks wearing the same outfits and sporting the same hairstyles. It was like a snapshot in time. I like the food overall from sashimi to chicken teriyaki, but I can understand how some people don't think the rolls are as inventive as other places. Sushi has really changed in the last few years and throwing a lot of sauce, flakes, etc all over has become mainstream. We saw the comments and were excited to try this place. My husband and I both ordered the teriyaki chicken. The chicken was tough, cold and tasted like fish. It was definitely not fresh. We heard the microwave in the back so we think the food was maybe frozen and reheated. The teriyaki sauce was more of a tamarind/honey sauce. Not impressed at all. The dressing for the salad was low fat so it had an after taste. We don't recommend this place at all. read more

Legit sushi. We had a large boat which came with miso soup, salad and rice. The fish was very frest and I'm super sensitive to anything fishy. We were the only ones in the restaurant which was a little weird but service was certainly good. The only thing I had a problem with was the soy sauce, which was much saltier and coarser flavor than most. The food was great. Stopped in at this cute spot on a whim and it was a delightful surprise! We had some sushi, yakisoba, katsu, and tempura. Everything we had was wonderful! On top of the food being great, the service was above and beyond. We have two kiddos and our server was so sweet to them and even brought out extra tofu for our youngest when she noticed we were feeding her all of ours. Such a sweet spot with great service! Great restaurant that the entire family loved. Husband had the chicken katsu, son had the udon, daughter had the sukiyaki and I had the sashimi + shrimp/vegetable tempura combo. Stopped into Arigato for a small bite before hitting the gym. I only ordered a couple of pair of Sushi - Maguro and Saba. Despite such a dinky order they still served me some complimentary hot tea which hit the spot on a cold Alaskan evening. The place is fairly small and there were no salmon sized carp swimming around in a fish tank but hey, this is Spenard. Got a bonus chunk of cantaloupe for dessert. I like Free Stuff. Slow service, ok menu but just not what I would have Wanted from a Japanese restaurant. The taste was edible to say the least.

The menu was kind of lacking. We decided to come here based on the sushi reviews but there was only a handful of rolls. They weren't terrible but definitely not something to write home about and come back to eat. We came close to closing time and I assume this was the reason for our poorly constructed rolls. read more

Really good Saki. Sufficient miso and the side salad had a tangy dressing that was delicious. My friend had a spicy octopus salad that was different from anything I'd ever tasted, really good. I ordered the chicken teriyaki and shrimp/veggie tempura. The shrimp was really good, but I think the veggies lacked flavor. The chicken was good and was all dark meat. Only thing that was wierd was halfway through my salad, the lady lays down a pair of 'coordination' chopsticks...you know, the kind with a rubber band so that uncoordinated people have a chance at eating. Thing was, I've used chopsticks for years, and am quite dextrous....maybe I wasn't good enough in her eyes, lol. read more

This place was talked up to me, so I was excited to try it. Unfortunately, the service was pretty poor (my friends and I were the only ones there most of the time and we still had to flag down our server long after we were ready for to go boxes/the check) and the sushi, while perfectly fine, was not necessarily worth the price. The menu was also pretty limited, roll-wise. I don't think I would come here again with so many other great sushi options in Anchorage. HOWEVER, at the end of the meal they DID bring by some kind of mochi/creampuff dessert thing that was so delicious that I'm leaving this review at a 3 instead of 2. I have probably tried everything on the menu and I am never failed to be amazed. Everything is cooked and prepared to perfection. I would think I am actually in Japan. The owners are amazing kind people and they basically know exactly what I'll order before I speak a word. A warm relaxing environment with faint music in the background makes for a great atmosphere. We got the family dinner C of salmon teriyaki, beef teriyaki, gyoza and tempura ($22/person). I was impressed that the food came out pretty quickly. The gyoza was too oily because it has been somewhat deep fried rather than pan fried. The tempura was pretty good but nothing terribly special. The batter was a little soft and not nearly as good as Sushi-ya over on Dimond. The salmon teriyaki and beef teriyaki sauce tasted different from each other. On the salmon they put a gravy-like sauce that I wasn't a fan of. The salmon didn't seem particularly fresh. The beef teriyaki was excellent. It was sliced beef marinaded in a teriyaki sauce. There wasn't excessive sauce on the beef but the flavor was robust. I would order that again, but none of the other items. Overall, for $22 a person, I just didn't think it was worth it. read more

On our quest to the best sushi in Anchorage we made a trip to this forsaken place. Mistake! I noticed how many wonderful reviews they had, higher than many other places, so I guess my expectations were high. We are big time sushi afficionados, connoisseur borderline sushi snobs. Our quest began when we moved to Alaska at the end of October 2013. Alaska, the land of fresh seafood, the land where we could find possibly some of the freshest sushi in America... So Arigato?? Where and how have you gone wrong? Two most important things make or break sushi... Rice and seafood (among the most important) The sushi appeared manufactured, as in too tightly cased. I know it could not have been, I saw a human make it. Next the seafood did not appear fresh.. The conch ( one of my favs) looked slightly brownish...the eel maybe too earthy ( the are bottom feeders I guess) my dinner partner liked it. The wasabi was nice and strong... My cup of tea. The tea was also rather delicious... But let's recall I did not come here for tea!! As far as service goes, the lady was just a jewel! But the sushi still remains a no on my dictionary. In fact I have no idea how on earth they have gotten such high grades in the past! I remain clueless. Ok so yeah it's a cute mom and pop type place... One of the worst Asian dining establishments in town. The food was equal the quality of Carr's Chinese for twice the price, we were constantly having to catch the waitress's attention for more water, and we had to ask for our bill three times. It took her forty minutes to finally bring it and there were only two other customers! I'm sorry, if this is your idea of 'Real Asian Cuisine' you've obviously never been abroad. The food is cooked specifically for a heavy greaser palate. If you dig hamburgers from your local drive-thru more often than not, this is the place for you. read more
