Deep fried ice cream balls I think.

Randomly wanted sushi and stumbled into this place. Service wasn't fast but stuff kept coming out the kitchen (soup, salad, edamame, rice) and we were spoiled with a ton of great food. I ordered Shrimp Yakisoba and I asked for spicy, it was excellent and fresh. We shared the Volcano and Spicy S.M.T. Rolls. Volcano was light on the tempura which made us all happy. S.M.T. was very creamy and had a light spice. They served us a dessert that had light tempura and melted in your mouth. Total was $64 + tip.

Domo arigato, Mr. Roboto... domo... domo... (robot movements) I love this restaurant because I've got history with this place. I used to come here all the time with my mom about 15 years ago. We really enjoyed our time here for the food and conversation and we liked the couple running the place. Fast forward and I decided to revisit it and found it to be just as it was before with the same folks wearing the same outfits and sporting the same hairstyles. It was like a snapshot in time. I like the food overall from sashimi to chicken teriyaki, but I can understand how some people don't think the rolls are as inventive as other places. Sushi has really changed in the last few years and throwing a lot of sauce, flakes, etc all over has become mainstream. I would come again and recommend it if only for the quiet clean restaurant and the nice couple running the place.

Sashimi and shrimp/vegetable tempura combination

Great restaurant that the entire family loved. Husband had the chicken katsu, son had the udon, daughter had the sukiyaki and I had the sashimi + shrimp/vegetable tempura combo. Everything was very delicious! The sashimi was more than I ever experienced before! Two types of tuna, salmon, tako and shrimp.

Great service and tasty food for the prices. Great value. The decor is a bit out dated but overall good.

Slow service, ok menu but just not what I would have Wanted from a Japanese restaurant. The taste was edible to say the least.

On a cold day, this…read moreis exactly the kind of meal that makes sense--warming, steady, and satisfying without trying too hard. The space has a modern Japanese minimalist aesthetic--clean lines, warm lighting, and a refined calm that feels both welcoming and quietly upscale. It's thoughtfully designed without being cold, striking a balance between contemporary elegance and comfort. Shabu-shabu here is on the pricier side, but the portioning justifies it. The small shabu-shabu easily feeds three to four people, especially when shared properly, and nothing about it felt skimpy or rushed. Three visits in, it continues to deliver!

We used to come here when this place was Peter's Sushi Spot, the inside has not changed hugely…read moresince then, except maybe for the hot plates on the tables, should you wish to have shabu shabu. The hot plates are spotlessly clean, I did notice, and there were instructions on the wall on how to cook shabu shabu. We used to come for the Tempura Udon which was spectacular. We were seated very quickly, and water was brought out. I decided to go with my benchmark dish, which always gives me some idea of whether I will return or not, and ordered chicken fried rice, husband got the tempura udon, so he could compare with the previous Udon we used to get here. I noticed that their soft drinks are only $2 which is an excellent price in my opinion. I got a Canada Dry as I love ginger ale. His Udon came out quite quickly, and we could instantly tell that the broth did not have the same depth of flavour, as when we used to come here, (it was quite smoky and very umami) and this one has a distinctly seaweed tang. Thats not to say that it's bad, it's just different. The noodles are also not quite so dense, chewy or toothsome. Additionally the tempura was somewhat of a letdown. The shrimps were very slimline compared to the display on the tv. There was an onion ring, that was also quite thin. Just not a good representation of tempura. Also, comparing with the Udon that used to be here, you also got a cup of miso soup, and a small salad with a carrot orange dressing. Those are gone. As for my chicken fried rice, well the presentation was excellent, it came on a beautiful plate, and looked very appetizing. The first couple of bites were really nice, plenty of carrots, broccoli, chicken, however I soon started encountering tender crisp onions. Which I cannot eat. They give me violent stomach pains. I can only eat onions that have been cooked down to almost mush. Anything raw or that has any element of crunch to it is a no-go, as it will make me ill. I found it somewhat unusual, as I get fried rice all over town and have never encountered chunky onions before. I'm sure I could have asked them to leave them out had I known they were going to be in there. It tasted good, for sure, but having to continually move the onions aside (and there was a lot of onions) was offputting. Normally when i get fried rice, I eat some, and take the rest in a to go box. I did not take the rest home this time which is very telling. Anyway, service was excellent, and they were very attentive - for instance our server saw that my husband was giving me a spoonful of his udon, and without being asked he came over with an extra spoon, small bowl, and a ladle, which I thought was very thoughtful. I cannot fault the staff.

Thankfully we didn't have to wait long for service like some earlier reviews indicated. We went on a Saturday night, around 8pm and it was us, 3 people at the sushi bar and a single diner finishing up a meal. Owner/operator is a dear sweet old man. Such a cutey with his big smile. Pricey, the 3 dishes ‐ chirashi, collar, skewers and tea was $93

Mine may have showed up 20mins after my neighbor's. The quality of the food items were just ok. I had comparable sushi at another sushi restaurant a few blocks away. -Idiot Fish: The most exciting thing was the name. It was a pretty firm fish, no fat, and quite a few bones. -Sashimi Platter: 6 types, with 2 each. We got mackerel, yellowtail, tuna, salmon, white fish (snapper?), and octopus. -King Crab Roll: What I thought was the imitation crab was actually real crab. The coloring was so ...fake looking. It's not a bad roll, but I'm not sure the flavor of the crab came through. -Beef Steak Japanese Style: Big dish but awful cut of meat and had a semi off taste. Either freezer burn or the fridge. It was full of sinew and super chewy. -Herring Roe on Seaweed: This had a strange bitter aftertaste. I couldn't eat the beef after having this, it made the beef bitter too. It was a super fun texture though. Very snappy, very poppy. Only come here if you absolutely have the time for it. My dinner took about 3 hours, and there were 5 other tables.

My favorite restaurant in Anchorage , by far…read more The layout of the restaurant is street level entrance with downstairs dining. The staff is just over the top amazing. Antonio greeted me at the door and sat me in just a few minutes. I was seated at the bar counter downstairs. A dark intimate hip place. The guys behind the counter were Cory, Kendrick, and another young gentleman I didn't get the name of. They were happy people and it showed. I saw from the yelpers they had Tsukemono (Japanese pickles) and my second favorite Tsukemen (dipping noodles) . I ordered both and was pleasantly surprised to see the pork belly was perfectly roasted, the 6 1/2 min egg was on point, and the noodles and broth were absolutely amazing. I am a Tsukemen fan and this place did it right. I then ordered the matcha pancetta dessert. Whoa! Completely knocked on the floor with the flavors. This is my favorite restaurant having spent two weeks here and finding this one on my last night. Can't wait to come back. Don't hesitate to eat here.

However this was my birthday dinner so I was particularly disappointed. I reserved a table for three in the whisky bar area. We arrived about five minutes early and were told by one of the hostesses that the party at the table just paid and should be leaving soon. About 20 minutes passed before another said the party still had not left even though one of them talked to the server. Eventually I agreed to have us seated in the main dining room. Almost immediately afterward I saw two parties leave the whisky bar so I asked to be moved there, which according to one of the hostesses is where we originally supposed to be. It was over 30 minutes later when we finally got the table I reserved. This left a sour taste in my mouth and I considered leaving at one point, but I was really looking forward to this dinner. For dinner I ordered the Komorebi Old Fashioned and the Dark Horse as I often do, We also shared the whisky pork buns and everything was delicious. Dessert was not as enjoyable. I ordered their espresso martini, the Electric Stolt, which was decent enough. Lacking on the coffee flavor in my opinion. I also ordered the chocolate birthday cake which, aside from the cherries in the cake, tasted like any generic cake you would get from a grocery store. Their other desserts, like the matcha panna cotta and goma silk bar, are much more flavorable. Service overall was fine, but we got the check before my boyfriend could order another drink so we felt somewhat rushed out. Considering this is the only time I've had issues with being seated for reservations, I would go back, but this was my least pleasant dining experience here, unfortunately.
