    Lonestar Migas

tl;dr the Texan-style tacos are rich and hearty; I'm still dreaming about the melt-in-your-mouth beef brisket tacos Tacos are never more than a stone's throw away in Los Angeles; however, there is a relative dearth of Tex-Mex-style cuisine. Skip out on Chili's and opt instead for fast-casual mini-chains in the city. Texas native Briana Valdez opened the first location in Hollywood in 2013, with the goal of delivering breakfast tacos, queso, and all the other Tex-Mex comfort food that she grew up on. Most notable on the menu are the rotating band-inspired tacos, including collaborations with artists such as Questlove and Leon Bridges. Now, HomeState has expanded across LA and Orange County, and it continues to rank among LA's top taquerias. The brick-and-concrete Hollywood storefront is covered by a healthy coat of ivy. Outside, trim wooden patio furniture is organized under school bus-yellow parasols. Enter past the "I love breakfast tacos" neon sign into the narrow interior stretching far back. Sturdy picnic benches line the right wall, while a wood laminate bartop runs along the left. The blue-toned walls are etched with floral motifs, and shelves are stacked with drink cups and tortilla chips. Clanging from the kitchen dominates the classic R&B. I've visited HomeState a few times, and the tacos have always been delicious. Broadly, the soft flour tortillas barely held up against the juicy, protein-heavy taco toppings. I have been most impressed by the Tijuana Panther and its depth of salty, savory flavor. The runny queso left the taco extra-juicy, while potato wedges added intermittent crisps of texture. The Fort Worth, an elevated chicken taco featuring thick-but-floppy bacon and mildly tangy tomatillo ranch, was good but less exciting. Looking for a change of pace? Then try the Lonestar Migas. The egg, tortilla chips, and brisket scramble was mouth-wateringly rich, even if the chips lost their snap; order some tortillas, and you can reasonably craft 2-3 breakfast tacos. The complimentary salsas aren't absolutely necessary, but they add a further dimension of flavor; I preferred the tangy salsa verde to the earthy salsa roja. The service has always been friendly, and the food was prepared within minutes of ordering. The moderate-sized tacos run $6-7 each, and a healthy appetite could reasonably down as many as three. While on the pricier side for LA tacos, the flavor and satisfaction levels are through the roof, worthy of the premium -- it's no surprise why these Texan tacos have been such a hit.

Takes credit card. Over-priced tex-mex. I would pass on this next time. Trinity breakfast taco $5.5- eggs bacon, potato, cheddar- pretty good flavor. Nice soft pillowy flour tortilla Tijuana panther taco $7- brisket, queso, potatoes, pico de Gallo. The corn tortilla is pretty soft. The brisket is overly tough. Queso with chips- queso cheese is good. Chips are plentiful.

Super delicious tacos, lots of variety, located in a really pretty and relaxing spot of East LA. There is inside dining and outside dining. The decor is beautiful, lots of plants outside. The prices are fantastic for the quality and portion.

This is a casual TexMex place. My friend and I came for lunch and it wasn't too busy. They have a bunch of locations around LA. I got the chicken taco and vaquero taco. My friend got the ranch salad, and we shared the frito pie in a bag and chips. Everything was fine, but fyi the food is very greasy, even the tacos had an oily taste to them. I've had better tacos in LA. The one unique item was the frito pie, which is a salad with fritos on top and beans at the bottom. Maybe Tex mex isn't my thing.

Looking for a taco spot in the area, we came across HomeState. Delicious tacos at a price. We ordered ahead and our order was ready in about 15 mins. A cute small spot with indoor and outdoor seating available. Service was friendly and along with the tacos, they provided red and green salsa. We tried the following tacos: -Brisket-guacamole and cabbage -Tijuana Panther- brisket, queso, potatoes and pico de gallo -Chicken-gucamole and cabbage -Potato (not vegan) contains sour cream, cheese, guacamole, cabbage, pico de gallo, and pickled jalapeños -Chicano Batman- Soyrizo, potatoes, guacamole, and salsa verde. Overall, the tacos were nicely filled and delicious! You can ask for flour or corn tortillas. We mixed it up and tried both, which were fresh and delicious. The top favorites were the potato for vegetarian and the Tijuana Panther. Flavor filled tacos that were definitely filling.

-Food: Breakfast tacos were delicious!! Eggs soft fluffy and filled in the burrito with meats and cheese! Loved the trinity burrito. Queso and chips were a MUST! -price: very reasonable for the quality of food and able to get filled with tacos and chips! -staff: everyone was friendly and welcoming -parking: street parking (unless there was a lot I was unaware of) Will be back!!

This is not my first time at HomeState, just my first time at this location. The food and service is fantastic. I went here 30 minutes before closing (something I never try to do) and they took care of our pick up order promptly and the food was incredible.

Almost 5$ for this drink and it's 80% ice , it's a shame that I frequent this establishment often and this is the standard of service , it's quite laughable You've lost a customer

One person in a review mentioned there's a view of the Hollywood Sign from here - is that accurate?

It's true for the Easy Hollywood location.

Could you guys host a catered lunch for a college baseball team in March on the patio for tacos around 3pm? Need room for 40 guys.

Are you guys open outside? I have been told you have outside patio but you ask for a proof of vaccination to seat outside?

Hi Shawn, we are happy to be able to once again be able to open until 8pm, 7 days a week.

I came here for dinner on a week night and my experience here was pretty good. I had the asada and al pastor tacos with all the toppings and they were both so good and full of meat and heat. The toppings can be spicy for some, so be warned. My favorite of the two was the all pastor which was flavorful and I did like the thinly shaved meat. It was not dry at all and was fresh. I also tried the mulita with al pastor meat and that was also soso good. Cheesy, meaty, and indulgent. The additional topping section had good variety with pickled onions, cucumbers, etc. and everything seemed pretty fresh. Unfortunately, they were pretty much out of the roasted pepper and grilled onions at the time I went. To drink, I had the horchata and that was also very delicious. It was huge, sweet, and creamy. I also loved how it was not grainy at all. A good pairing with the rich foods. They also have a good amount of seating at the stand with a long table and multiple chairs. Having been to so many taco stands, I think what makes Tire Shop Taqueria really stand out are the right-off-the-grill charcoal-grilled meats, the freshly made tortillas literally in front of you as you are waiting on line, and the free guacamole that comes with each taco. The ordering process is like any other taco stand, though one difference is here the salsas/guacamole are all handled by the staff. If you'd like more of something, just ask them instead of reaching for the ladle yourself. There is a separate area though for grilled onions/peppers and radishes you can serve yourself. I got the asada, chorizo, cabeza, and al pastor, and they were all so good. The asada and chorizo are specifically grilled over charcoal, and that flavor really shines through. I loved how meaty and tender the cabeza was too, and the classic al pastor hit the spot. They have large communal tables setup, so it is a great friendly vibe to enjoy your meal I will say, the surrounding area is not the best in LA, especially given how the taco stand is only open at night. The parking lot is quite small, so I parked on a side street that had some abandoned cars, but of course, if you are in/from LA, this is not that new for us. I would hesitate if I am a tourist though to make it out here. Anyhow, the food really is worth it here, and I can't wait to be back!

We found easy street parking in the neighborhood on 41st Street, and waited in line for about 15-20 minutes. We ordered the asada tacos. They pre-sauce your tacos, which was fine by me, but my boyfriend who can't handle as much spice would've preferred it on the side (so warning for anyone similar! they do put a little habanero on them, so just ask them for salsa on the side). I think I ran into a problem of reading too many raving reviews -- these tacos were good but I was expecting them to be mind blowing, so I was a little disappointed. I tasted the charcoal char, but kind of wished the taste was more pronounced, or at least the meat more seasoned. The hand made tortillas were definitely the coolest part, but I thought they were a little dry too. The ladies whipping those out are artists though. Actually, all the workers here have the assembly line down to the tea, and they definitely add a little flare for a show. I particularly liked how they had a lot of seating at this location, instead of just a couple stools lying around like most taco trucks. It felt more like outdoor patio seating than a normal taco stand. They could probably take more time to wipe down tables more often though. Overall would visit again if in the area, but wouldn't go out of my way for the tacos here.

The tacos were a solid size as well but I was surprised to find the tripe as my favorite because they fry it and it adds a nice crunch/texture change. The cabeza was a close second with the stewed flavors. The chivichangas were also tasty but not the traditional chimichanga I was anticipating. It's definitely on the softer side as everything mixes together and there's not much of a texture change. Worth trying if you are curious though. I ordered to go so I didn't see if they have a salsa bar but I did have to pay $.10 per to go container which would be nice if they were free. However, I liked mixing their red and green salsa with each bite. I am curious to try their avocado salsa next time. Overall, I thought the portion sizes were good for the prices and I felt full afterwards.
