This is our go-to diner for the area. Excellent service, great diner quality food, fun atmosphere. The Prime Rib French Dip is what I order most if I'm coming later in the day or for lunch. If you're really hungry for breakfast, get the Irish Nachos, which aren't really nachos, but it's corned beef hash over fries and smothered with cheddar cheese sauce and bacon with eggs on top. I have to respond to the reviewer who spoke about the "cackling" waitress at the Hometown Diner. We go there frequently, and the waitress you are referring to happens to be a wonderful person. I have been fighting cancer for a couple of years, and through the food issues and the bald head and the inability to stand and wait for more than a few minutes, she has been so very kind to me, always greets me with a hug and a big smile. I did not know her or the owner, Bonnie, or any of the other girls there before we started eating there, but they make us feel like family. The food is great, the atmosphere is awesome, but for me, the best part of breakfast is the kindness with which I have been treated. I really wanted to love this place. A classic-style diner with coffee, a counter, and pies ready to go, this place has a lot of potential. I went in for lunch and ordered a coffee and Turkey Melt on Rye. The coffee was really decent. Not craft coffee, but it wasn't weak and it had flavor. The sandwich was soaked in butter, but the turkey inside was thick cuts of turkey rather than deli meat. While that is a great feature of the sandwich, the my particular cut of turkey was tough. The fries on the other hand, were excellent. Even better than the fries were the onion rings, I highly recommended them with the Chipotle sauce they offer. Overall, I was disappointed, but if I am in the area again in the future I will be sure to give it another try. read more

August was the first time we have dined at this new diner. The weather was nice, so we ate outside. Inside was an old fashion diner design. It was pretty neat. We ordered burgers and a pancake for our infant daughter. The burgers were cooked properly and were very good. My husband got a Blue Max style. It was large and full of flavor. I got a Texas style with cheese and chili. It was very delicious. The fries were okay. But tasted awesome with the chili and melted cheese on them from the burger. My daughter's pancake was very large and plenty for a young child. It tasted like a funnel cake. The server was friendly and attentive. I give this place 4 stars. The facility was clean and polished. Went for the clam basket which is always great. Something went terribly wrong this time. Clams smelled like they had spoiled.The staff checked on us and I felt horrible that I had to tell them because this is one of my favorite diners. They took them back and offered to open a new supply of clams but the damage was already done. With no problem at all they took it off our bill. My wife was so upset because this had been her favorite spot for fried clams. We ended up splitting my fried haddock basket which as always was terrific. Everyone has an off day and we will be back..sorry to complain but we owe it to everyone to tell it like it is.Thank you Hometown Diner and please try harder to insure the products meet the " smell test " before leaving the kitchen. read more

My mother and I were very excited to try this new place. We walked in and it was clean. Even with it packed we got seated rather quickly. I was most looking forward to HOMEMADE corned beef hash as it is not a common offering. So I ordered two eggs, toast, hash and a single chocolate chip pancake Eggs - scrambled, nothing special. Toast - sourdough, pretty good Corned Beef Hash - COMPLETE Disappointment. All it was was shredded corned beef that had been dried on a griddle. There was no potato, no onion, nothing but dried beef. It was awful. Pancake - Nothing special again. Good amount of chocolate chips. My mother got a meat lovers omlette which was okay. Not an oversized portion but not bad. The coffee was not refilled, so the service wasn't great. Bathrooms were very clean. Overall, not worth a trip for a great diner. read more

The diner has been open for a few months now, and it's become part of my weekend ritual. I usually get there early (7:30am) on Sa &/or Su and I sit at the counter, although at that time there are usually booths open. It gets crowded fast, by 8:30-9am on weekends it's a full house - especially Sundays. I'm a predictable diner, and the staff has come to know me as a local regular. They ask if I want the usual (Eggs Irish) and coffee. This is to highlight that the staff is friendly and they are attentive to folks who make it a repeat visit. The owner is a lovely lady who never fails to unobtrusively chat up the diners. My only comment would be to state that the food is good but sometimes inconsistent in regard to portion size and quality. The Eggs Irish I get today may or may not be the same as I get tomorrow. The cost is middle of the road. My breakfast runs me a predictable $11, plus a tip. I have never had a bad experience and I would recommend it to anyone for an easy, casual breakfast. read more

I am finally taking the time to review the Hometown Diner. I've probably eaten there a dozen times or so since it opened. The first thing you notice is the attentiveness of the wait staff. They are fast, friendly, and always keep your glass filled with what ever you're drinking. Bonnie is a sweetheart who makes you feel as if you're eating in her home. The food is excellent with a pretty diverse menu and large portions. I typically go for breakfast and am stuffed by the time we leave. The poutine is one of my favorites. My only complaint is sometimes there is a wait to get a place to sit, which obviously is a direct result of how popular the diner is. read more

So I came here for the first time with my roommate and same friends for the first time ever and my roommate ordered a 3 cheese with bacon sandwich. When he received his food we were all happy with the quality of the food but they had forgot the main part of the meal the bacon. After he already ate the sandwich the waiter came out with the bacon and just placed it on the table yelling sorry we forgot your bacon. After asking another lady if the meal would be free, she asked "you got the bacon after didn't you" and he simply replied with a yes. She then followed with a "Sorry" and walked away. I don't think it was until one of my friends and I looked at each other and said are they all like this? Was when she realized that they had messed up and voided it off the receipt. Worst service ever!!! Walked in it was busy, ok understandable cleared counter space for 2. We gracefully declined preferring a table as my husband has had multiple back surgeries and sitting on the stools aggravates the injury. Waitress got all pissy stating it was going to be a long wait as they only had just serviced the larger parties with their meals. I smiled and we agreed to wait, another party of 3 walks in behind us complaining of the line at the door and almost immediately gets seated at a booth. Talk about discrimination, we walked out and will NEVER return we will also be telling all our friends and family about our "service" or lack of. Disability does not always present itself on the outside people so if you are unable to gracefully handle customer requests maybe your in the wrong career... We just stopped in for a quick bite and realized we got there at 2:05 and they close at 2:00 but did not give us a problem and served us promptly. The service was prompt and the food was tasty. The chili was notably of a higher quality than I tend to expect at a diner. The cheese fries were decent. This place is clean, well staffed and really what I would expect from a diner. We have eaten here 6 times. The first times were great. The home made hash was very good and portions were large. The last two times, the hash was terrible. Something out of a can or worse. Also the portions went from large to _extremely_ small, as if they were running out but wouldn't own up to it. My husband and I finally got the chance to sit and try and have breakfast at the NEW diner. I have to agree with the posts here about the food. Price wise, I don't care as long as I'm getting great diner style fare. My eggs were way overcooked as were the homefries. Actually what I could have made was bland mashed potatoes, they were that overcooked. The toast was dry as a bone with a minute amt of butter to the center. Stools at the counter were the most uncomfortable thing I have ever willingly decided to sit on. The customer service was not great either. Felt like we were bothering the waitress working the counter area. The diner has been open long enough that I hoped for a better outcome. I am not a fan of diners, as I have had very bad food in any number of them. The Hometown is the exception. I had the fried haddock with onion rings; best fried haddock in recent memory, very lightly breaded, a large piece served piping hot. Good coleslaw with very light dressing. They make their own pies, pecan was excellent. A real find, and very reasonable prices, will be back. Only drawback a very loud waitress constantly telling jokes & laughing too loudly at them. We stopped here for a quick bite before attending a burial at Cathedral at the Pines. Food was served quickly. My fish sandwich was awesome, moist and of a good portion. The onion rings were spot on and very enjoyable. My wife's three cheese grilled cheese served on restaurant baked sourdough bread (all breads except the burger buns made here, but even the buns seem to be better than usual) with great french fries. We will return. The prices are great compared to the portions that are served. We saw a huge mac and cheese served at another table. We could have shared it. And the waitress had the chief prepare a lobster mac and cheese for another patron that was not on the menu. We overheard many patrons discuss that they are repeat customers. Stopped at the Hometown Diner this evening and were surprised they were open. Their normal hours are from early morning til 2 PM. However they are open until 8:30 PM on Thursday through Saturday. Unfortunately this is not marked on their door hour sign Quite busy with all of the booths filled We ate at the counter which was just fine. Our server was gracious and took our order soon after we sat down. I and my wife had the fish dinners which contained large portions and were delicious. I'm torn about how to rate this place because the food and service is good, but the parade of sugar ants on the chair rail in the back dining room while we were trying to enjoy our lunch made us lose our appetites pretty quickly. We alerted our server who said something like, "yeah, I saw them when an earlier customer mentioned seeing them." Um...what? You knew there was an ant problem and STILL sat people back there?! We asked for the check and when the server came back with it she said, "We're taking care of 'that' and thank you again for bringing it to our attention." We thought that meant she was comping something on our check or proving a discount off it since we were subject to dealing with the ants so close to our meals, but no. Full price. As I said at the beginning of this review, our meals were good (clam basket, scallop basket and BLT Club) and the service was fine, but we won't be back. If the owner reads these things: hopefully the ant problem has been resolved, but if something like that happens again, please do your business a favor and offer something to compensate your customers for having to deal with insects while they are trying to dine (comp the meal, provide a discount or even just offer a dessert at a minimum). A little gesture goes a long way. read more

I like classic diners and have been meaning to check this one out since it opened. Not long ago I was in the area and though it was not yet lunch time my stomach thought otherwise, so I figured this was the time to go here. Warning: I have to tell you this review is not based on the food I got because I couldn't get any. OTOH, not serving customers food seems like an undesirable trait in a diner. The first sign of trouble was that I was greeted by a sign telling me to wait to be seated. This is a diner? It made it clear that this inhospitality extended to the counter as well. At the counter I counted 1.0 people. So I cooled my heels and tried to make eye contact with a number of employees whom I saw and who did not seem terribly busy. All but one ignored me. She just looked back blankly as if to say, "What are you doing here?" There were plenty of staff and few customers but no service was available. While I was waiting I read the list of specials. Now it's hard to know what "specials" are these days. In a diner they used to be a bargain price on a standard dish or something fresh in season. These days they may be something they don't normally have available for a premium price. These lunch specials hovered around $15. I hope they were worth waiting for but I eventually gave up. I went down the road and got an excellent lunch in less time than I spent waiting here, and at less than half the price of the specials. My advice to the owners is to either let people sit down OR make sure they are greeted promptly. read more
