I am always excited to try a new sushi place! Well, new to me. Their menu has a lot to offer and a large selection of appetizers and entrees, in addition to the sushi. Though I love to order sushi when I first try a place, I was going to be eating at work and saw the sushi prices were higher than I was expecting. To check out their quality first, I decided to get an entrée (because I needed the calories) and a roll (because the prices were much cheaper) instead. I ordered the beef teriyaki for $13.95 and the Salmon Roll for $6.50. Though I can get a bento box much cheaper at many places, I have to say their portions were extremely fair. There was twice as much meat as any other place would serve, twice as much rice and it came with a soup and salad. The price and portion of the Salmon Roll was very fair, I thought it was a good deal. I actually liked the roll quite a lot and thought the quality was pretty decent. In regards to presentation, they could have rolled it tighter, but it didn't fall apart on me, so it's all good. I would say the roll was above average, so I look forward to ordering some sushi and more rolls. Unfortunately, I didn't enjoy the beef teriyaki at all and that put a damper on the overall experience for me. The soup had a really strong smell that I didn't like, so I didn't even try it. This isn't much of a concern as there was a ton of food. Unfortunately, the meat was really fatty. Not just fattier than my preference, but way fattier than any portion of beef teriyaki I've ever seen or had. This made it so chewy that it was difficult to eat, about half of it was inedible. It was also covered in a sauce that tasted suspiciously like sweet barbecue sauce, had a broken texture and was extremely unappetizing. The rice was also very dry. They were very generous with their portions, but I didn't care for the food and lost my appetite quickly. Not impressed. I'm never a fan of a wasted meal so I don't feel the desire to rush back in. However, despite the disappointment in the entrée, the salmon roll gives me hope that maybe they just execute sushi really well and everything else is just okay at best. I can live with that, I often find little favorites at spots that don't excel in other areas. It's all about finding those little gems to me. So I'll be back for the sushi, but I'm hesitant to try more entrees. read more

Came here on a friend's recommendation during my weekend trip to Dallas. This place is a gem! Food: It was just me for lunch, so I got the poke bowl and was pleasantly surprised by the great quality of fish, numerous fresh toppings, and the portion sizing. It came with avocado too, which I love. Lightly seasoned fish and plenty of vegetables so you can eat this and still feel healthy about it. Service: Chef Charlie is from LA and is super nice. He made me a special animal out of fruit (check photos!) My water glass was always full, and the chef and server were both super attentive. Ambiance: It's a super cute sushi restaurant with a lot of foliage and decorations (it almost feels like you're eating outside at a sushi bar). I went during an off time, so there weren't many people at the restaurant. But I can imagine this would be a great place for groups or for date night. Coming from Florida I am very picky with sushi and Hon did not disappoint. I think I finally found my regular sushi spot after a year and a half back in Dallas. The prices are great and the rolls are big - and not mostly rice. We had the big mama, playboy, and devils wing. My favorite was the big mama and my bf loved the devils wing. Omg the first thing is that this place has one of the best decorations ever. Even if you order a simple or one roll, they take their time to make your food look super pretty. Although it takes a while for food to come out and due to the time it takes for the decorations the food is cold, it's still really pretty and good. I think their rolls tasted better than their sushi overall. The 2 rolls I got were really good! I am usually not a person to get rolls but these were amazing! They have lunch specials and happy hour (I beleive) which make the prices a bit cheaper. Definitely a place worth checking out! read more

Presentation was wonderful and the cuts of fish were thick and delicious. Currently my favorite sushi restaurant in the DFW area. The walls has a forest themed wallpaper, while the decors in the restaurant are plants. You're basically in a forest- and imo it's pretty cute. Super attentive and friendly customer service. Presentation for sushie were definitely well done as well. For my visit I tried: -Baked Salmon Roll: Filled with a generous amount of creme cheese and topped with baked salmon, spicy mayo, and teriyaki. A heavier roll, so share this one with company. -Spider Roll: The inside contains a deep fried crab (w the shell and small crab leg to resemble a spider). The deep fried crab gives a nice crunch to the roll. -California roll: Filled with crabmeat, cucumber, and avocado. I don't think this one contains cream cheese (or maybe it was very little to be noticed). -Rockstar roll: This roll is deep fried and has a small jalapeño sliced pepper on top. It's not super spicy as the little slice of pepper is the only source of heat. Definitely a heavier roll, so share this one as well. My cousins who came with me cannot eat sashimi, so I was not able to try those during this visit. Portion size was pretty big. The honda roll is super yummy except the avocado they used was pretty old. I didn't really like the spicy salmon roll because of its poor fish quality. Service is great. WOW! Hands down, the best sushi restaurant I have ever been to in 25 years of eating sushi in Dallas, NY, and California. I've been hesitant to try Hon Sushi simply because the best sushi restaurants are usually in trendy neighborhoods. I'm so glad I did. First off, the staff is very friendly and thoughtful. My wife and I sat at the sushi bar. The chef could overhear our conversation, and when the waiter placed our order, the chef took the time to verify with me that I wanted the sashimi platter and not a sushi one. I hadn't paid attention to whether the platter was sashimi or sushi since I enjoy both equally, but I must've said 'sushi' when conversing with my wife. He picked up on that and made sure what I ordered was what I wanted. How many chef's do this? Most would just make the dish as ordered, even if they suspected the customer didn't quite understand what they were ordering. He was very friendly about it, not condescending like some might be. The food itself was superb. I mean what I say about the best I've ever had. We're talking fatty tuna and salmon that melt in your mouth, with amazing texture and freshness. They make their own soy sauce and are proud of it, so there's no guilt in dipping your food in it. And I have to say, it is good soy sauce! Other sauces are homemade too (tempura sauce, etc.). All are great. The presentation of the food is beautiful. It's like artwork. Different pieces are plated around and on top of a decorated, upside down martini glass. Some are arranged in a flower like pattern of Japanese soup spoons. Carrots and cucumbers are cut into flowers, etc.. I'm never one to take a picture of my food, but I did here. ALMOST too beautiful to eat....but so glad I did eat it J As far as value, it really can't be beat. I had a 12 piece sashimi platter, 2 piece salmon roe sushi, vegetable tempura appetizer, miso soup, cold saki, and a beer. The wife had shrimp tempura, some kind of roll, miso soup, 2 imported beer. They mention on their website where they source their fish from , so you can trust the quality . Also the staff and servers are quite knowledgeable about each item on the menu , which is commendable because they have a ton of menu items ! That being said , my experience was great overall . It was 6 of us on a slow Friday night . We got here at 8.30 and there was just one other party in the joint . The Picasso of sushi at a reasonable bargain! The Chef puts so much love into the presentation that it almost steers you away from eating it and destroying a master piece. For the amount of food I ordered, I estimate that an upscale place would have charged double the total. Menu: They offer a full-page menu (back and front) of Japanese dishes such as Tonkatsu and udon. The entrees are gigantic... I mean like it can feed a third world country. They have almost 20 different kinds of rolls in 3 categories: fresh fish, baked rolls, and tempura rolls; all of which are reasonably priced. They offer sushi a la carte as well (they even have yellow tail toro!). Complimentary miso soup was brought out as well. Service: The hostess and waiter were both friendly, sweet, and unflustered. Their attitudes matched the tranquility of the whole restaurant which made the entire meal very pleasant. Ambience: I don't recall the music - probably because I was stuffing my face. But the restaurant has bamboo tress painted all around the walls and decorated to feel so quaint and cozy. Dislike: The soy-sauce they use was a little too sweet for my liking. By far one of the best Japanese/Korean food joints in Carrollton! Definitely a hidden gem for masterfully plated and delicious sushi. During our first time dining here, we sat at the sushi bar so that we could watch Chef Charlie work his culinary magic. His plating was top notch and truly artful that we couldn't help taking a few moments to admire the craftsmanship before devouring everything in sight. A true feast for the eyes, stomach, and wallet (everything is very reasonably priced for the great quality)! We were so full after only ordering a sushi combo, a Hon special fresh fish roll, and an entree combo dish. The menu is HUGE and I can't wait to come back and try other items!! The only reason why I'm giving this a 4.5/5 star is because the server forgot my salad that was included in my combo meal and according to my Taller Counterpart, the sushi had a tad too much rice for his tastes. We sat at the bar and had the pleasure of being served by the very talented and thoughtful, Chef Charlie. He takes the utmost care in preparation and plating, everything we had was gorgeously displayed and absolutely delicious. I'm a fan of sashimi and ordered the 12 pc. Sashimi platter along with 2 pc masago sushi. Jon had the Nuclear roll and the spicy salmon roll along with chicken fried rice. We were each given miso soup, on the house, which was flavorful and a perfect start to our meal. Sashimi was good portions, sauce accompaniment was delicious. Be sure to try the soy sauce, it's made in-house! The rolls were also tasty, although Jon says the nuclear roll wasn't as spicy as he had anticipated, but agrees it's more of a personal preference than a real downfall. Chef Charlie surprised us with deep fried Spanish mackerel to try; it was pretty much the skeleton of the fish with the head and the tail attached. When deep fried, everything becomes crispy and salty, like chips! Very delicious, what a special treat! Our meal ended with a sweet orange "vehicle" if you will, served with two toothpicks to pick up the segments and a little whipped sweet cream. Very playful and fun way to close a meal. During my recent visit, the AC was broken again, yet despite it all, the staff remains friendly and the food is still tasty.
