Came here over the weekend for lunch. I got the beef and chicken teriyaki lunch special and it was perfect. The service was amazing very helpful and welcoming. Can wait to go back as this also one of my friends go to spot.

We were excited to try this place out as it looks fun and there is always a line to get in! The staff was very courteous, but somethings were left to be desired. When we were seated we only had one set of plate ware and utensils, we also didn't have any soy sauce - the container was empty with its lid upside down. Once we ordered we got our edamame fairly quickly, but half of it was ice cold - very odd. I also never got my green tea. We were given a complimentary gyoza, which was nice. The crazy Cali roll and Mountain roll were both delicious and would order those again for sure! The yakisoba noodles and chicken left a lot to be desired. The atmosphere is fun, and busy, could be a fun date night spot but it's hard to hear if you get sat in the middle seats. I'd come back again because the fish was great, and the ramen looked really good.

Gyoza sauce, mostly empty.

For an hour and half wait.., I get a used Gyoga sauce or they ran out. They were pretty cold too. The rolls fell apart. I'm not happy for $100.

I am surprised this place is so hidden. The service and food quality were top notch. All the rolls are delicious and the quality of the nigiri, I like it. This is a great place to go out with your friends or family. Tatsu special roll was really good, the tempura flakes along with the fish eggs made it flavorful. The nigiri, I picked salmon, bluefin, and unagi. It came with light rice and a perfect slice of the fish. And the most satisfying roll was the lion king. I am definitely saving this spot and coming back for another round.

Generous Chicken Teriyaki dinner with salad and rice (Oct 2025)

Located near Sports Basement in Walnut Creek, Tatsu can be easy to miss when driving along Ygnacio Valley Blvd, but that would be a mistake. Been here a few times, including a recent weekend family dinner, and Tatsu delivered again with outstanding service and food. Not surprisingly, they were busy on a Saturday night but we had made reservations, and we were seated after a short wait. They also readily accommodated a person in our group who was in a wheelchair. They have a large menu but food quality has been consistent in the different menu items we've tried on various trips. During our most recent visit, service was outstanding and attentive, and the place has a fun atmosphere with music playing but still easy to chat with the person across the table without needing to yell. Everyone in the party got piping hot miso soup along with a complementary order of fried gyoza that were well seasoned and not greasy. We were there for sushi primarily but were impressed by the chicken teriyaki dinner which included a large amount of tender, flavorful, grilled chicken, salad and rice. The nigiri sushi dinner was delicious, with 9 different nigiri combinations and California roll. The fish tasted clean and was well prepared. In terms of rolls, the scallop roll stood out in terms of flavor, and the rice quality was excellent in the rolls and nigiri. Highly recommend trying out Tatsu for lunch or dinner when you get a chance

Wow!! I absolutely love this place! First, how cool is it that they give complimentary gyoza?! That alone deserves 2 thumbs up. But then you add the food, service, atmosphere.... The entire experience deserves a high five! The restaurant is located in a small strip mall with plenty of parking. The interior is decorated with cherry blossoms and is very inviting. We didn't have to wait long for a table, thank goodness. We sat near the sushi bar which was great because we were able to interact with the chefs. We ordered 2 rolls, Hana sake, and the nigiri mix with uni. Everything was delicious. I would definitely come back if I was in the area and craving sushi!

complimentary gyoza!

omg where do i start?? our experience at tatsu sushi was awesome!! while their items are on the pricier side, we understood why once they were served. first of of all, both miso soup AND gyoza are served on the house which i have never experienced before (only miso). they're served hot & make such delicious appetizers. the tonkatsu ramen--ordered by my boyfriend--was pretty big for only $15! as for the rolls, they were HUGE and so generously made!! the slices of fish on the nigiri were also very thick and buttery. i cannot describe how good everything tasted. everything was so fresh and strong in flavor. their crab mix is a little mayo-heavy, just to note. as for service, everyone was so warm and friendly. we arrived 45 minutes before closing, so we expected a fast-paced experience. but the employees were more than happy to serve us which we appreciated. they anticipated our every need without us having to ask, such as refills on water and extra napkins. it's the little things that truly matter. the ambiance was great! it was quiet, the music wasn't too loud, and the decor was just gorgeous. it was clean and spacious inside. this is such a hidden gem. we are so stoked to return!!

This might be a new favorite. Decided to check this place out after a massage nearby and I was already impressed by the decorations. It looked a lot more lively than another place we were considering going to. We were seated right away and treated with kindness and respect the whole time. They even gave us gyoza on the house which made my whole day, especially given that I had a rough start to the morning. We both ordered bento boxes that included two pieces of California roll, rice, salad, and I ordered chicken teriyaki and spicy tuna. I also ordered some jalapeño appetizers. They were so good and worth the extra wait! I texted a few people while we were there to check this place out.

Tucked away in a little plaza is this very cute sushi spot! (Right next to Kinders) we were greeted and sat immediately but we did notice it got packed very quickly with large groups and families (on a Sunday). Our waitress was very pleasant and she even spoke Japanese w my friend ! The sake sashimi was fresh and delicious! The portions were healthy and they didn't skimp on anything!! I enjoyed the complimentary Miso soup and hot tea!! And later the gyozas were brought to us compliments of the chef!!! The asahi beer was also served very super cold which hit the spot on a warm day!!! The decor was light and welcoming and I'd definitely come again!!

My 9-year old kid says: "It was AMAZING! I feel like Naruto!!!" We will definitely come back again! Vibe was great! Ambience was spot on! Staff were attentive and service is great! And the food, Delicious!!! Overall, great experience here.

lunch combo with tonkatsu and salmon avocado roll
Angela D.

stopped by here for a quick lunch after visiting Sports Basement in the same plaza. Miso soup the moment ur sat. The lunch combo is extremely worth the price coming in at $14 (or $15 if u want the tonkatsu). I got the lunch combo with salmon avocado roll + tonkatsu (for the extra dollar)!! I also got a Jenny roll which was amazing as well!! The salmon in everything tasted like quality!! Very silky and smooth texture :) My partner and I also got some fried gyozas on the house which was a very pleasant surprise!! The gyoza sauce was delicious as well. My only negatives is that My partner got the beef teriyaki and the beef itself...how i describe it... its not the beef teriyaki we are used to...its like a really flat piece of steak beef(?). The katsu sauce was really really concentrated as well. Service was great!! We were constantly being checked in on by the waiters and waitresses. They played music in the background and everything was decorated for the holidays which was a really fun vibe. Give it 5 stars bc it was such a pleasant experience but if I could the honest rating would be closer to 4.5 bc the beef teriyaki really threw me off

First time here

Personally not a fan. Large menu of too many different items is usually a big red flag for me. Usually means they can't do anything really well. Very loud music inside. Nothing stood out. Heavy on the sauces on the sushi. Imitation crab in the sushi. Wait is oddly long even on the waitlist. Free miso soup and gyoza. Ramen was overrated, meat was thin and the spicy was just a lot of chili oil. Had a lot of family's here. I went to Japan last year and still haven't found comparable quality.

Fresh wasabi options
Paige N.

Welcoming service with cute decor and an expansive menu. Went for lunch with a friend and ordered the lunch nigiri mix to try an assortment of fish, and friend got a specialty roll. The portions were great and we got gyoza on the house for spending a certain amount. Definitely try their fresh wasabi! It's extra but worth it.

From the moment you walk in, the restaurant feels clean, modern, and welcoming, with a great corner location that adds to the overall vibe. We ordered several dishes and every single one delivered. The Steak Diane was cooked exactly to the temperature requested, not over, not under, which is always appreciated. The braised beef short ribs were incredibly tender and flavorful, with a rich, well-balanced sauce. The spaghetti and meatballs had a classic, traditional taste, and the pasta was perfectly al dente. The sauces on both meat dishes were excellent. Service was another highlight. The staff was fast, attentive, and genuinely personable, you really feel taken care of every time.
