These guys are nice over the phone and called me to check-in in a timely manner, but I'm really not a fan of their prices. I can't speak to their service quality because I ultimately chose not to go with them, mainly because of their estimate which seemed high even to my totally untrained ears. Another place did the same job for less than half what these guys quoted me. I just have a bone to pick about one of their charges - a battery load test. I was told over the phone that it would cost $35 since I chose not to go with them for the actual repairs. I got there to pay, and the person at the desk tells me the total is $48. I tell him I was told over the phone that it would be $35, and the guy says "nothing I can do about taxes". HUH??? What kind of tax is that?? That's like almost a 40 percent "tax". I probably wouldn't have even left a review if not for that. I am simply baffled. Even if I misheard it and it was stated to me as $39 or something, that's still a wild amount for a tax. If someone can point me to whatever legal codes they're apparently referencing, I would love to see them. read more

I have a 2015 Kia Optima and I go to Honest 1- Auto Care for all my oil changes! They are thorough with their free inspection and give me a printout of all issues and never try to sell me on anything, just show me the facts and let me decide. They have a value card with over $350 in discounts which include 4 free oil changes for $79! But the number 1 reason I go to this shop is the extraordinary customer service Erik provides. He treats every person he engages with, with care and professionalism. I always look forward to getting my oil changes here because I trust what I'm being told, and I am treated respectfully. Honest-1 Auto Care Minnehaha Has zero process-flow to account for if their technicians have made an error in diagnosis , but the customer is certain of their diagnosis, and solution. And they don't seem to share tell-tale signs of "for Imprint-Certain" evidence that the customer provides, to technician. Like a wall. To Rick: would you say there is no TellTale audible signature that an axle joint is going bad versus drivetrain to body rubbing-tapping-hitting? I believe he told me in the shop, there is not. I disagree, there is. Insert quiet shims everywhere the body noise could occur, and thus the only remaining possibility are the axles. There is also the very slight possibility that weight distribution could somehow be a factor so that is why when u are alone in the drivers seat it does not occur for you. But does for me, and also when you are in the passenger seat. Everybody has strengths and weaknesses, I do, Master Techs do, presidents of companies do. I can hear the individual revolutions of the motor of my Volt at extremely slow speeds. I can hear the different acoustic signature of the electric motor during regenerative braking when cold versus hot(same amperage output) ,same on both of my Volts. Ectetera. Although i am sure he does has a great track-record, and he is extremely talented & experienced, I have been trying to get him, and management to realize what weaknesses he may have in order to improve. I did not write the 'red flags ' emails long ago for no reason. I love you guys but you don't realize.. Management Should catch on to when there is a repeated discrepancy between customer observations and technician and implement another brain on the matter automatically.. But you never do. It is so frustrating to not understand why my friends don't understand that issue. It should be obvious now. Replace. My. Axles. Remember when my blue Volt was in the shop because it was getting 15MPG due to clogged CAT, and at the same time my white Volts' axles were quickly degrading and as I recall , it was degrading at the same rate as the axles in my blue Volt are degrading now. That is why back then it was such an urgent matter for me. therefore I have high confidence that the broken Mount has no effect on axle life the axles just have a short life on these vehicles with my driving style. What has happened here is that I wrote 1 sentence on the Night-Owl ticket, in that the axles needed replacing. Katie called saying I needed the lower mount replaced in order to keep warranty. Fine. But I am a commercial driver so let's not talk about warranties, ever again, hmm? The mount was replaced. Then it broke again. and it sounds like he replaced it again. My axles are still not replaced. Forget the mount. Stop looking for reasons why an axle only has a 20K mile life and open your mind to the possibility that it just, does. GM-OEM 20K, Surtrack ~35K miles. I need honest 1 to simply do as I ask in the future, with upfront price, and perform any diagnosis in a way that will not delay that objective, and everything I said above. It's really that simple. If i'm wrong, it's on me and that's fine. If you delay what I ask for, for 3 weeks on something that is non-critical to the functioning of the vehicle, and no benefit to warranty, customer gets flustered. i stand by my assessment of your process-flow. Had a tricky maintenance issue with my Ford F250. A little beyond my meager skills. Took it first to the local Ford dealership, where they quoted me $200. Seemed a little high, so I thought I would try an independent shop, Honest-1 Auto Care had a prominent web presence (sponsored?). In my neighborhood, so I thought I would give them a try. For the exact same service they quoted $460. I was shocked, so I ended up going to another shop, where they quoted and performed the exact same service for $168. Interesting to note there was a large assortment of Best of Year award plaques on the wall. They where all about Sales, nothing about Quality or Service. "Honest" is a virtue. Overall bad experience. I brought in my car for a check engine lights and power train issue that popped up on my car. Going in, I knew my front brakes were due for a change but I was told my car needed a tune up (to address the issue with the check engine and power train) brakes and I had a leak in my oil coolant housing. The grand total was $5,500. Given 2/3 were a tune up and brakes I assumed the majority of that was the housing. I told them to go ahead with the tune up for now to get it going again, thinking it would be around $800 tops. I was called and told the tune up was done and it would be $2200!! A $2k tune up?? I picked it up and drove to work dumbfounded and the same problem actually returned, but it acted worse than before. I called them back immediately and the guy that answered basically told me it can happen and to drive it off. I tried explaining I don't think I could "drive this off" as I brought it in for this reason. He sounded like he googled exactly what my car was telling me and told me "oh yeah, you should bring it back." They had told me as long as the issue pertained to the original the fix and diagnostic would be free. They called me back 4 DAYS LATER to tell me they had cleaned my mass airflow sensor during the tune up but think it may actually need to be replaced. Get this, it was quoted at $1200. On top of my $2200 tune up. The kicker is the MAF is about $300 tops and it you just in plug and plug it in. It only takes a screwdriver. Needless to say, I just took it back, down $2200 on a tune up and with an overall estimate of $6700 for some pretty basic work. I would not recommend. read more

CAUTION - BAIT AND SWITCH ALERT I called Jerry Dynes Service Advisor to get a quote and make an appointment for oil change ($91.66) and transmission service ($139.99) on my 2018 Cadillac XT5. About an hour into the appointment I'm told by Erik Grant, another Service Advisor that this transmission requires 3 quarts of "special" fluid at over $100 per quart. At that point i decided i wasn't going to have the transmission serviced since its way before the recommended schedule,...BUT to my shock they had already drained the transmission !! It was suggested that they could put the old fluid back in but I don't trust that it was drained into a contaminant free container so at this point I don't have a choice, and I'm forced to pay more than DOUBLE the quoted price! I asked Jerry and Erik both how this can happen as their mission statement states "We will explain every step of the service, BEFORE we start any work" and neither had an answer. Erik stated that they would use it as "a training opportunity" but it's at my expense. Use EXTREME caution if you decide to trust this shop. VERY UNPROFESSIONAL! read more

INCOMPETENT & NEGLIGENT! ALMOST DESTROYED OUR CAR BECAUSE OF IMPROPER OIL CHANGE! STAY AWAY! SAVE YOUR MONEY! My husband just got his oil changed here a week prior to this incident. We were on our way to a wedding out of town and car warning: "oil pressure engine off" light came on and we had to stop at the nearest gas station and could see the oil leaking out of the car. No oil on the dip stick- meaning all the oil leaked out and is in a dangerous state to be driving. Good thing we stopped when we did because after the mechanic said that the engine oil drain p was not tightened and was causing the leak. We had to miss a friend's wedding, spent the entire Saturday waiting for help in the cold and rain, had to get towed over an hour into town because it was the weekend and no shops were open in the area- just to be told that it was pure negligence from our most recent oil change. We were told that someone would not access this spot in the car unless it was to replace the oil and the drain plug was not tightened and somehow didn't fall off the car completely while driving. We almost had to replace our entire engine and our vehicle if we hadn't stopped the car right away because of someone's negligence to tighten the engine drain plug. We reached out to them a week ago to avoid posting this and come to a resolution, but they still haven't gotten back to us. Their customer service is awful and they obviously don't care. read more

Came in with an engine temp gauge issue - I thought it was the coolant temp sensor, but they troubleshot it and determined it was, in fact, the thermostat. I was able to book an appointment online, they confirmed via phone call, and they fixed my truck (2018 Colorado Z71) on Saturday before Labor Day! The service counter gentleman Jerry was kind. I called days before my appointment and Jerry expressed the oil change would take roughly an hour. This is average wait time. Upon arrival, there were some cpu issues but it was all figured out by 9am. My appointment time. I have my pups with me, so we walked around the area, came back in 30 mins. My car was still in the parking lot not being serviced. I waited another 15 mins and, and still, no service. I'm a real patient dude, but come on! So I said F it. Got a "refund" and will likely never come back. Don't come here. There are PLENTY of places around the area that'll take your business seriously and do your oil change timely. read more

In November 2021 they charged $145 to remove the broken part of the dipstick from the oil dipstick tube, but they didn't even do the job, I found out about it when I bought a new dipstick and tried to use it. On my demand to do the work I had already paid for, they still removed the broken part of the dipstick, breaking the oil dipstick tube. Terrible place to get your car worked on unless you enjoy giving away your money for nothing. This place tried charging me almost double what they quoted me originally for a brake flush then quoted me $800 to replace an axle and boot. I took it to my regular mechanic who did it for $398 lol. I had to argue with the manager back and forth about them trying to charge me $285 for the brake flush which I was told $150 over the phone originally and was told it takes 45 minutes to do. They kept my car for 5 hours then tried charging me $285 The guy I said no way to at first got upset because I argued the price and kept staring me down like he wanted to fight or something. I so wish he would've It would be off to court we go lol. Anyway screw these guys. They send out cheap oil change coupons then lie about a bunch of overpriced stuff you don't really need. I would not recommend taking my vehicle to this mechanic or anybody who calls themselves a mechanic shop. Take it to the dealership who you bought the car from. Last year I took my Kia to these yahoos, later on costing 8000.00+ over 2 stuck open fuel valves dumping raw fuel into the turbo causing it to combust. Once I got it out of the mechanic I discovered that oil was burning in my engine that was irreversible, and over a period of time it caused 13000+ damage to an engine that I can't afford to replace and still sits on the street and not drivable. Do yourself a favor, spend a little extra money, and take it to the dealership to whom you purchased the car through and save yourself money, and heartache. read more

Not only are they one of the most overpriced shops in town, but the way they charge for things, I find to be suspect. I recently went in for diagnostic- there was a coupon on their website for this. When it came time to pay, I showed the coupon they told me that can't be used, it isn't the same thing.. um??... Secondly, they didn't ACTUALLY diagnose my vehicle!! The mechanic came inside to tell me what he THINKS the problem is, but until I can get the part needed (an air/fuel sensor), he won't be able to tell what's really going on .. so only once I have that part could diagnostics be done.. yet I was charged for diagnostics, close to 200$- for what their mechanic THINKS *might* be the problem. I'm supposed to go back once I have the part- if I do, does that mean I'm paying anther 180$ for diag again?! Another example of what I mean: I was charged for hazmat fee... For no reason. I bought their coupon book for around 90$, they add on a "shop supplies" fee of 10$.. for the small piece of paper the coupons come on?! Just say it costs 100$then, what's with the shady little charges on everything?!! Took my Durango in made appointment to have my water pump replaced instead they called me back and said it was not the water pump it was a heater hose and bad clamp cost $300+ Took it home and it still leaked. So Took it back and they said it was a bad radiator cap and another bad clamp. That was $200 + and when they called to let me know it was done but I need a new water pump exactly what I made the appointment for. So now I am out over $550 . I don't think the customer should pay for their trouble shooting and I think it's just lazy tech I know it's hard to see weeping hole on the water pump because of surptine belts and the wider pully bad a flashlight and mirror to see it. Being a Disabled Veteran and health fading I knew that when they called about a heater hose I knew it was not the problem I could see that from looking at the top end but with my health I can't get under it to see. .and knowing that he was lost Aaron and didn't have a clue what he was doing he didn't even check the bypass hose . The damage heater hose was not pumping out all of the coolant that visible looking from the top. While i have been using these guys here in Vancouver WA for the for over 10 years for Simple Oil Changes and Been Happy with their Service During my last Visit i had Just a Cultch Fluid which is Just Brake Fluid Dot 3 or 4 and the Transmission Fluid which is 70 Weight Oil and i Brought in and Supplied all Fluids and the Job Only Took 90 Minutes Total to Complete for Both Fluid Changes and Then Being Charged Over $ 410.00 Dollars for This Simple Fluid Change i was Totally Shocked and Asked the Manger why was the Bill so Over Priced and he said when Customers Bring in Their Own parts and Supply's they Lose Money so what they Do was Raise the Labor rate from $ 180.00 per hour to more than $ 220.00 Per Hour and Then he even said we give you No Warranty on the work we Just Did even Tho i Bought in Fluids that i Bought from the Car Dealer and Payed the car Dealer for the Exact Proper Fluids and since i am a Low Income Senior Citizen i had to take Money out of my Personal Emergency Medical Fund to Cover These Charges , so Needless to say I am very Disappointed with the Service I got this time and probably will Not be returning to this particular location for Servicing my Car since They Grossly Overcharged Me for the Simple Fluid change Service they Performed read more

I wasn't going to even leave a review but after going back to the office to complain I didn't get an apology. I did get a refund on my tire repair though. Went in on a Saturday for a nail in my tire. Sunday drove to hike in Mt Hood Forest. Less than 24 hours my tire went flat and we were stranded. Had to get a tow and thank god a Jiffy Lube was open on Sunday to repair it. They told me they never saw a tire repaired this way. Only on an atv tire was the method used. Went in on Monday to complain and ask for a refund. They did give me a refund but didn't seem to care. They are in the business of selling parts. Something they won't tell you until you get there. So essentially they make money by up charging parts. If you bring your own parts the hourly rate goes up from $150 an hour to $190 an hour. Paying more for less work doesn't make sense. DON'T DO IT! Advised we were in a pickle as our van broke down and we're from out-of-state. Was told it was a day job at $2400 when I took it in Thursday morning. Called in the afternoon and told it'd be done the next day, Fri morning. Fri morning said Fri afternoon and then told it would be Sat morning. Called to check Sat morning and I'm told they were totally on track for that afternoon. Nope! Sat afternoon I'm advised it would be Monday after all. Fast forward to Monday when I was told they've been waiting for the master mechanic. He'd be in Tuesday...WHAT?!?!? All along you've been telling me the next day, the next day, the next day and the master mechanic wasn't even there?!?!? Told instead of just 8 coils and plugs, I now needed CO2 sensors and I'd prob blown a head gasket. If that was the case, it'd be $9100. WHAT?!?! For that price, I may as well get a brand new motor - $11,000. Instead, I told them to slap it back together and paid $2600 for a tune-up Drove it back to Los Angeles to my mechanic who has diagnosed it as an intake manifold issue! MUCH less expensive and will actually fix the issue. Go figure! Can't believe the runaround and price gouging at "Honest"-1. If u have to put "Honest" in your name, chances are you're anything but! After their obscene delays, we are out $1200 in extra hotel nights, rental car, meals, etc. Whatever u do, stay clear of this place...told us one day, it took 7. $2400, it ranged $9,100 to $11,000. Quote ended up being double what I was told initially, no biggie there just wanted the car fixed. After getting it back from the shop found my dipstick tube broken in multiple places. They claim it was like that when I came into the shop, I know for a fact it wasn't. What's more irritating is that they recommended it to be replaced on the paperwork but not on the phone call made to authorize work done. So now I have to take care of it myself because the guy at the front desk wants to argue with me over the phone instead of trying to solve the issue and get it back in to take care of. read more

I took my Highlander there because my sister's neighbor recommended them. The car had a misfire on cylinder 5. Based on google searches, I told them that I think it might have jumped time and told them that people normally replace the engine when this happens. But I did tell them that I have limited knowledge on fixing cars--only the basics. Honest-1 kept it for a couple days and billed me for around 5-7 hours of labor to diagnose the problem. After opening the timing cover, they told me that the timing chain had jump and recommended an engine replacement to the tune of $7k+. I asked how much to repair it and they said it would be around $7k. I think the exact words were "either way, you're f*cked". I paid $600 for their diagnostic and took the car back to my parents. My parents decided to take it to the Vancouver Toyota dealership, suspecting that it can't be more than a valve job. The dealer tech said it might be a head gasket, something completely different than A-1's diagnostic. They ran a compression test and a leak down test for $600 and found 70% leak in cylinder #5. Cylinders #1 and #3 showed normal leakage (~7%). For another $1,300, they tore down the engine to discover that a valve spring was bent so the exhaust valve wasn't closing in #5. They replaced the spring and flushed the engine. Since the engine was out of the car, I asked them to replace the water pump and serpentine belt, which I was only charged for parts (~$350). The total repair and extra work including tax was $5,100. And that was based on stealership labor rate. The car runs fine now. I was told that Honest-1 uses Mitchell to estimate lanor repair cost. I'm not sure if they are double billing (charging labor to remove the engine twice), but it's a complete rip off. They told me it would take 40 hours to tear down the engine and get to it. It took the dealer a day to drop the engine, do the repair and extra work, and another day to put it back. I didn't feel as though I received any value for the $600 they charged, and their misdiagnostic and repair recommendation would cost more than the Toyota dealer. For major repair work, it's a gamble where you take your car. Honest-1, to me, wasn't very honest. read more

There are two types of auto service experiences that stick forever in the mind; One is the bad experience where the service is grumpy and sloppy, and you were sold services you didn't need much less afford. The other is that good experience that is so good it stands above the rest. If you want the second experience, go to Honest One Auto Care on Minnehaha in Vancouver. This is one time that the claim to be honest and fair is true. I've had auto there twice now once for an Oil change and 21 point check, and recently to replace my battery. Paid these guys to do a diagnosis and oil change on an avalanche truck. They charged a diagnosis fee of about $150 and told me that they think it is the driveline that I should replace that. That did not fix the problem that was not the issue they were not even close. The technician said "I think it is the driveline this is where I would start." I paid the diagnosis fee because I took his advice for as I am not a mechanic and he sounded very sure but then again going back to his words he did say I think. I also paid to have an oil change done which was supposed to be for synthetic and turns out that they use the synthetic blend which is not a big deal but if they are willing to cut corners on stuff like that it makes sense why they misdiagnosed this problem and still took my money for the diagnosis fee. The entire time it felt like they were just trying to get to the diagnosis fee and get me out the door. I can tell that they make a lot of money on those fees. They also did not tell me about the fees before I went in there and they already had the keys to the car. There are plenty of shops in the area and I would recommend going somewhere else. read more

The worst. They serviced my aftermarket air filter on my car and afterwards it fell off my car! I was driving around without an air filter for a month or 2 until my check engine light came on. Chris Jobe the manager and the owner refused to right THEIR wrong. I had my air filter serviced through them the last 2 times but they claim no responsibility. This place is the worst. Incompetent. Honest 1 my hindend. Charged me $190.00 for a sensor, auto store $78.00. Asked about plugs and wires Honest 1 almost $500.00, auto store $125.00 AC/Delco. The mark up they put on the parts is just not right. These are just the part costs no labor mind you which is crazy, how many of us in business can charge over $100.00 an hour.
