Vegan Pav Bhaji
Karishma M.

4 stars mainly because they have vegan options and it's clearly marked on the ordering platform when you select that option. I was really excited to see that they had vegan pav bhaji. I don't think it tasted amazing, but I was happy it was there. It was a lot more liquidy than I prefer. It isn't on par with Mumbai pav bhaji or the way I make it at home to my preferences haha. However, I think this is the first time I have ever seen vegan pav bhaji as an option on a menu officially, so I am very happy about that. The pav was good, nice and fluffy. Overall, I wouldn't rush back, more of a once in a whole outing, but I would love to try the few other vegan options they have. It looked limited so this was the main highlight. In terms of process, once you are seated, you order on your phone after scanning the QR code. Food came fairly quickly. There was plenty of seating. It's on a main strip in Fremont so it's a popular street with other restaurants and shops.

First come first serve & resto gets quite busy in eve if bigger groups, expect wait times. Food - the pizza & sandwich were delicious & will def recommend to visit if thats something you like. A lot of options to choose from. They had a nice mouth freshener ( mukhvas ) which was really yum.

I've only been here a few times and every time I order the same thing, samosas. When I have a samosa craving, I drive all the way to Fremont to pick them up. My order is always ready when they say it will be. The samosas are fresh, delicious and reasonably priced. They usually have loaves of bread on the front counter for purchase. Makes me want to consider ordering one of their sandwiches. I forgot to note that this is a vegetarian restaurant. Here's What I Think...If you're in the area, give this place a try.

Honest Special Grilled Sandwich

Ordered a to-go meal with pav bhaji, special grilled sandwich, and all-in-one paratha, and honestly, it was extremely disappointing. First off, the portion sizes were outrageously small for the price. The to-go bag was so light it immediately set off alarm bells. Starting with the pav bhaji--it wasn't really pav bhaji. It lacked the signature masala and flavor, though it was technically edible. The sandwich felt like a scam: a double-decker with the thinnest slice of cucumber and a quarter slice of tomato, the bottom layer just chutney with no filling, and the bread was dry and seemed old. The paratha was thin and completely lacked flavor. I was surprised by the positive reviews I had seen online, but my experience was the opposite. For the price, the quality and quantity were both extremely disappointing. Will not be going back.

Honest holds a special place in my heart as it was a hangout place for friends growing up in India. I was excited to try this location. The food was not bad but not amazing either. We had the rumali karari roti which I was excited for but the roti part was cold. The onions and tomato masala made it soggy which is expected, but typically it is hot and crispy when it is served. I would give it a 3 stars. I was really disappointed with their pav bhaji as Honest is known for that dish. The bhaji was very garlicky and spicy but without the flavor. The chhole bhatura is ok. 3/5 stars The desi pizza was good. Crust was again not as crispy as expected. 4/5 Kiddo had the kids noodles which was good for her. Orange juice was good. Will try some other items on menu next time.

We came on Friday noon for a late lunch. Tried their bun maska ,masala pappad , veg fried rice combo veg Manchurian and schezwan fried rice combo. Food was great! Service was fast and great and we had all our needs and questions answered they have a creative menu as well with lot of great vegetarian options . They offered us alternate options when we ordered an item which wasn't available , thanks for being accommodating ! Ambience feels like you have transported back to a restaurant in India with Bollywood music playing .

Visited on a Friday evening, just past 8:45 PM. There were already people waiting when I arrived, and I spent a few minutes figuring out where to sign in. Eventually, I found the tablet, signed up, and received a message with my queue position and a tracking link. The wait was about 30 minutes. When our turn finally came, others nearby jumped ahead and took the table meant for us. Fortunately, a few tables opened up around 9:15-9:30 PM, so we managed to get seated without too much more delay. Service was disorganized from the start. There were no clear instructions on how to order. We ended up scanning a QR code on the table number card and placed our order that way. We assumed water would be brought out after ordering--but it wasn't. We had to ask, and even then, the service was clumsy: one person brought a pitcher, another brought glasses, but no one coordinated. Our food came out in a strange order--the last item we ordered, falooda, arrived first. Next came the Katappa sandwich, which had three layers: aloo masala, mixed veggies, and what seemed to be a light cheese spread. We followed that with Hakka noodles and paneer Manchurian. The only highlight was the soft paneer. Everything else was underwhelming. The Manchurian gravy was watered down and lacked salt, and by the time the last of our food arrived, we were more frustrated than hungry. We ate quickly and left. Overall impression: Likely not returning. The food was average at best, service was chaotic, and the atmosphere was far from relaxing.

Honest is slowly dwindling down on all aspects. We stopped by for dinner and the experience was worse than we expected. There was a wait list on which we added ourselves. Got a text message that the table was ready and when we went in, we were told the table will be empty and ready in another 10 minutes! Got the spot, placed the order using the QR code. We got Hakka Noodles, Manchurian with gravy and Dosa. The noodles were great. The Dosa arrived after 15 minutes and Manchurian was served after the noodles were almost over ( about 20-25 minutes later)! The dosa was okay too but the Manchurian was truly a disaster. Some sort of a spicy corn starch based gravy with red onions ( probably the same as the side for Pav bhaji) and 3 or 4 super hard Manchurian balls. Moreover, they have almost zero service and the music was super loud. Felt more like a garba night rather than a restaurant. The owners/ managers were there too but quite busy chatting with families they knew who were dining there. They did not seem to mind the chaos or lack or service! Have tried their Pav bhaji a few times before and would probably stick to that rather than the rest. Moreover, take out would be better rather than dining in the middle of a super loud garba.

Kattappa Grilled Sandwich

Pretty good snacks was had at Honest last evening! We tried their special pav bhaji which came with lotsss of cashews and some raisins & their Kattappa sandwich which was huugeee with a side of fries. I personally loved the sandwich a bit more than bhaji. It was 3 slices of bread with aloo filling and lots of capsicum, onion and cucumbers topped with cheese. Easily for sharing between two I'd say. The pav was toasted well but the bhaji could've used a bit more spice imo. The nuts gave it a nice, rich touch but they were too many in every bite & I couldn't just enjoy the bhaji. The place is nice with lots of tables and the service was quick and friendly. I'd come back to try some of their other snack items for sure.

Dabeli
Vatsal S.

We ordered the Kattapa Sandwich, Dabeli, and a Rose Falooda. Starting strong with the Kattapa sandwich was definitely the star of the savory lineup. It arrived perfectly crunchy on the outside and generously stuffed with a veggie and potato filling, all topped with cheese. Flavor-wise, it was delicious and satisfying. My only nitpick for the price point, I expected a bit more cheese to really bring out that authentic street-style punch. The Dabeli order comes with two pieces. Unfortunately, I did find a hair strand in one of them (not the surprise anyone wants with their food). The server brought out a fresh plate in a few minutes after I pointed it out. Taste-wise, though, the Dabeli itself was just average. It needed more bold flavor and spice; I had to lean pretty heavily on the green and tamarind chutneys to wake it up. Now let's talk about the real MVP: the Rose Falooda. Not overly sweet, super refreshing, and exactly what you want on a warm day. Creamy, fragrant, and beautifully balanced. Ambience wise, it was quiet when we arrived but filled up pretty quickly. It did get a bit loud, but nothing distracting. The space itself is huge and clean, which makes it comfortable for groups.

For the entrees, we got a potlam goat biryani - a delicious biryani wrapped in a banana leaf served table side. We also got the Fish Pollichathu, a fish grilled with a tomato based topping that was wrapped in a banana leaf and served with a tapioca mash and rice. All the dishes were delicious. The portions are generous and we ended up with leftovers to take back home. We also received a complimentary gulab jamun creme brulee since I was part of their mailing list and a pistachio tiramisu to celebrate our special occasion. A truly wonderful experience that made our evening special. We will look forward to returning to sample more of their offerings.

Casual fine dining. Decent seating, good for groups. Decent prices. ***FOOD: we tried a whole bunch of items- *crispy baby corn-3.5/5- very crispy with a sweet and tangy coating indicating liberal vinegar usage. *malai soy chaap: 3.5/5: excessive usage of malai(aka fat). Indulgent and decent enough for a small serving. *vellulli kaaram paneer-3/5- lacked salt. Paneer was softish but felt a bit chewy and hard in places. *black pepper mushroom curry- 4/5- this was my favorite dish that evening. The fragrant curry leaves, earthiness of the mushroom and the black pepper created an intoxicating combination. It was floating in excess oil but was lip smacking delicious. *chilli garlic Naan: 4.5/5: I normally don't rate naan as they are non descript but the version here was wonderful. Thin, not burnt on the downside and paired oh so well with the mushroom curry. *Egg biryani- 3.5/5- this was spicy rather than being flavorful. Since it was made with egg, I didn't mind the spice.

Lasuni Soya Chaap was flavorful, with generous amounts of garlic Chilli Garlic Naan was so good, that it didn't need another curry on the side. It was a novel idea and was a hit! Mushroom Pepper Fry was spicy but with pepper, the best way to spice things up! Enjoyed it. We also ordered Egg Biryani. It was so disappointing - very bland, both the rice and egg. Chili Paneer was just ok. Seemed like a tad bit extra ketchup Babycorn 65 was crispy and good too. The next time I come here, will max out on the appetizers, they seemed to be doing a great job. Be warned about their 'Family Pack'. It's advertised as a family size but serves about two people, not definitely four, which is quite pricey for a 32oz bucket at $40. While the Haleem's quality justified the price as a seasonal item, the 'Family Pack' concept for biryani is poor value.
