Wish could rate zero. Absolutely horrible experience. We ordered a chaat platter, rava dosa, pav bhaji, and an Indo-Chinese platter--and almost everything was disappointing. The chaat platter was completely mushy and overloaded with sev, with no real texture or flavor balance. The rava dosa was just okay, nothing special, but the sambhar was oddly sweet. And serving sweet yogurt in a chutney platter with dosa? That made no sense at all. The pav bhaji was by far the worst I've had in the entire Bay Area. The onion-tomato masala tasted raw, had an overpowering garlicky flavor, and lacked any authentic pav bhaji taste--just oil floating on top. Couldn't get past even a bite. The Indo-Chinese platter was the "best" among the worst, but still disappointing. Everything leaned unnecessarily sweet, and the "chilly garlic noodles" had no garlic flavor whatsoever. It's honestly surprising how this place has such high ratings. Completely disappointing experience--I would never return or recommend it. P.S. We ordered the Kattapa Sandwich, Dabeli, and a Rose Falooda. Starting strong with the Kattapa sandwich was definitely the star of the savory lineup. It arrived perfectly crunchy on the outside and generously stuffed with a veggie and potato filling, all topped with cheese. Flavor-wise, it was delicious and satisfying. My only nitpick for the price point, I expected a bit more cheese to really bring out that authentic street-style punch. The Dabeli order comes with two pieces. Unfortunately, I did find a hair strand in one of them (not the surprise anyone wants with their food). The server brought out a fresh plate in a few minutes after I pointed it out. Taste-wise, though, the Dabeli itself was just average. It needed more bold flavor and spice; I had to lean pretty heavily on the green and tamarind chutneys to wake it up. Now let's talk about the real MVP: the Rose Falooda. Not overly sweet, super refreshing, and exactly what you want on a warm day. Creamy, fragrant, and beautifully balanced. Ambience wise, it was quiet when we arrived but filled up pretty quickly. It did get a bit loud, but nothing distracting. I've only been here a few times and every time I order the same thing, samosas. When I have a samosa craving, I drive all the way to Fremont to pick them up. My order is always ready when they say it will be. The samosas are fresh, delicious and reasonably priced. They usually have loaves of bread on the front counter for purchase. Honest holds a special place in my heart as it was a hangout place for friends growing up in India. I was excited to try this location. The food was not bad but not amazing either. We had the rumali karari roti which I was excited for but the roti part was cold. The onions and tomato masala made it soggy which is expected, but typically it is hot and crispy when it is served. I would give it a 3 stars. I was really disappointed with their pav bhaji as Honest is known for that dish. The bhaji was very garlicky and spicy but without the flavor. Visited on a Friday evening, just past 8:45 PM. There were already people waiting when I arrived, and I spent a few minutes figuring out where to sign in. Eventually, I found the tablet, signed up, and received a message with my queue position and a tracking link. The wait was about 30 minutes. When our turn finally came, others nearby jumped ahead and took the table meant for us. Fortunately, a few tables opened up around 9:15-9:30 PM, so we managed to get seated without too much more delay. Service was disorganized from the start. There were no clear instructions on how to order. We ended up scanning a QR code on the table number card and placed our order that way. We assumed water would be brought out after ordering--but it wasn't. We had to ask, and even then, the service was clumsy: one person brought a pitcher, another brought glasses, but no one coordinated. Our food came out in a strange order--the last item we ordered, falooda, arrived first. Next came the Katappa sandwich, which had three layers: aloo masala, mixed veggies, and what seemed to be a light cheese spread. We followed that with Hakka noodles and paneer Manchurian. The only highlight was the soft paneer. Everything else was underwhelming. The Manchurian gravy was watered down and lacked salt, and by the time the last of our food arrived, we were more frustrated than hungry. We ate quickly and left. Honest is slowly dwindling down on all aspects. We stopped by for dinner and the experience was worse than we expected. There was a wait list on which we added ourselves. Got a text message that the table was ready and when we went in, we were told the table will be empty and ready in another 10 minutes! Got the spot, placed the order using the QR code. We got Hakka Noodles, Manchurian with gravy and Dosa. The noodles were great. The Dosa arrived after 15 minutes and Manchurian was served after the noodles were almost over ( about 20-25 minutes later)! The dosa was okay too but the Manchurian was truly a disaster. Some sort of a spicy corn starch based gravy with red onions ( probably the same as the side for Pav bhaji) and 3 or 4 super hard Manchurian balls. Moreover, they have almost zero service and the music was super loud. Felt more like a garba night rather than a restaurant. The owners/ managers were there too but quite busy chatting with families they knew who were dining there. They did not seem to mind the chaos or lack or service! Pretty good snacks was had at Honest last evening! We tried their special pav bhaji which came with lotsss of cashews and some raisins & their Kattappa sandwich which was huugeee with a side of fries. I personally loved the sandwich a bit more than bhaji. It was 3 slices of bread with aloo filling and lots of capsicum, onion and cucumbers topped with cheese. Easily for sharing between two I'd say. The pav was toasted well but the bhaji could've used a bit more spice imo. The nuts gave it a nice, rich touch but they were too many in every bite & I couldn't just enjoy the bhaji. This place is Honest in name only. Extremely disappointing experience at Honest in Fremont this past Sunday. We arrived with a larger group (8+) and were initially told we would be seated shortly. Instead of accommodating us, the staff continually bypassed us to seat smaller parties that walked in long after we did. Every time we asked for an update, we were brushed off with empty promises of "just 2 more minutes." After waiting for 40 minutes with absolutely no real progress or honest updates from the host, we finally gave up and left. It is incredibly frustrating to be strung along like this, especially when you have small, hungry kids in tow. The staff made zero genuine effort to accommodate our group or provide a realistic wait time so we could make an informed decision. If you have a larger party, do yourself a favor and go somewhere else that actually respects your time and knows how to manage their seating. (The first time ever). And kept calling the restaurant, no one answered the phone. No answering machine or automated response either. Can you maybe make a reservation or answer questions about the kid friendliness etc? None of that. It is not clear if we're supposed to get wait listed for a table or order online or wait for a table to be assigned for an order to be placed. Okay, fine. Even after getting seated no one bothers to tell us that no one will be coming to take an order. We're supposed to place it on the app, after scanning the qr code. Okay, fine. We ordered a few things. We see a popular and attractive looking item flying around on other tables. We get curious but it's not orderable on the app. We ordered the famous pav Bhaji and it was probably closest to being the saving grace and even then just a little above average at best. We ordered bhakri pizza and it was just a regular pizza with undercooked and thick base. Absolutely meh. Nothing 'bhakri' about it. So misleading. And cold. Karari roomali roti. Also absolutely cold. The staff, especially who manages the queue for tables seems to be a bit rude. No courtesy towards people who are old or expecting or disabled. Food is 6.5/10. I'd suggest the staff to be more soft while speaking to guests and potentially more accommodating to people in need. To add on, Restrooms do not have seat covers, out of tissues.
