    Special dosa

The madurai malli dosa was too salty. The chef special dosa had too much black pepper. The rava dosa was good. The bathroom was very smelly and didn't create a good ambiance. Service was fast!

Ambience is OK- typical South Indian restaurant vibes, but can be better maintained - more pictures or South Indian themed wall or floor decor? Decent amount of seating space - good for medium sized groups 5-10 people. Service was good, we immediately got a place to eat and were given menus upon arrival and we ordered food. The price for food was reasonable - comparable to Idly Express or Mylapore. The food was OK - I felt that everything was made bland. The sambar lacked flavor, so was the curry. The Kurma was good but the remaining items were just too bland for me, hence 3 stars. The food needs more flavor and kick. I ordered the MIK Thali, in my opinion the presentation of the food needs improvement. You just can't put a bunch of cups filled with different items in a tray and hand it over... where's the thali ???

Came here late at night, around 10 PM, and the wait was really long -- even close to closing. There were lots of other takeout orders too, which made the place feel chaotic. The staff seemed disorganized, and it wasn't clear who to approach for help. Seating isn't ideal for takeout either. As for the food, I wasn't too impressed. Some dishes lacked flavor, and a few were soggy. I don't remember all the specific items, but overall it didn't leave much of an impression. I should note I'm not the biggest fan of Indian cuisine, so this might be more enjoyable for someone who is. I've heard this spot is very popular, and there are a few locations elsewhere in the Bay Area. That said, I probably won't be returning.

Solid South Indian snacks in Fremont. Stopped by to meet college buddies this afternoon. We got there around 3 pm and spent a wonderful 2 hours reminiscing about the good old days, and also caught up on family, career, and health. All while sipping on MIK's famous Madras Coffee ($3.95) and nibbling on punugulu (fried idli batter) and mix veg pakora, served with their tasty coconut, peanut, and tomato chutneys (both $9.95). Parking was plentiful, service was adequate, and bathrooms were functional. Will be happy to return.

We've been regular customers here for a while now and have tried several items including the idli-vada combo, thali, puri bhaji, benne dosa, and rava masala dosa. Everything has consistently been flavorful and satisfying. The only slight miss was the rava dosa--it leaned more toward a regular dosa in texture rather than the typical crisp, net-like rava dosa we were expecting. Service is quick, and the staff is always friendly and attentive. A solid go-to spot for tasty South Indian food!

    South breakfast buffet...hmm

I would've given 3.5 stars overall if yelp allowed half stars instead of 3. Service was friendly but efficient while ambience is a notch above " hole in the wall" kinda place. We lucked out as we realized they had a South Indian brunch buffet, which we didn't know till we got inside. Food overall was 3.5 with the highlight as follows: Idli was soft and large and medu vada large yet crisp. Pongal was also tasted great almost a bit creamy. All three get 4/5 for taste and freshness. The masala vada was crisp but a bit cold. Upma was also ok. The three items that fell short of what would otherwise have been a 4 star food experience were the suji halwa, the idiappam and the bonda. For a south India restaurant (most usually get the suji halwa right - think Saravana Bhavan), the halwa was too sweet. The idiappam was too cold and the bonda was kept by the dessert so we expecting it to be sweet, but it was savory (though taste wise it was still ok) The thing about buffet is you need to keep the food warm, but with items like medu vada and masala vada, if you keep them warm over a flame for a while they lose they their crisp texture so it's a bit of a tight rope walk... Overall though definitely worth going if you're craving South Indian food variety sans dosas.

This spot is approaching a one-year anniversary. They are going to be around for a long time based on my visit. The food was excellent all around, and the service was good. Wish them the very best.

Husband is from Madras and we both absolutely loved the food here at MIK!! I would rate every single dish we ate here a 100/10 as it was all exceeding our expectations. We've visited MIK so many times now for their extraordinary food that it's now become our weekly ritual and we are also ordering catering for our baby shower event from here. Everything is so fresh, cooked to perfection, tasted authentic and delicious. Our most favourite offering has to be their veetu sooru (home style lunch meals). Absolutely delicious and mind blowing. Just like home made food. Can't have enough words to express how happy and tummy full we get eating these thali's. Priced just at $13.99 it's a bang for the buck. Today is the 3rd time having their special thali. All the items served daily are different and fantastic. I have been missing and craving for my mom's rava dosa a lot. tried in many tiffin places in the Bay Area and nothing came close to the taste of MIL rava dosa. Loved it. Cravings sorted. We've also tried their idly, vada, various dosa's. Absolutely delicious and finger licking. Service is super quick. Restaurant is very clean and tidy. The owners Ganesh and Srini are super friendly. Srini welcomes and speaks so well to us every single time and he makes us feel so welcoming and cared for. I will rate this restaurant as #1 if you are looking for the best South Indian Chennai/Andhra style home food and tiffins in the Bay Area.

We came here on a Sunday for lunch. Parking was plentiful as the restaurant is located in a complex. Right as we entered we were told we could sit anywhere. This location is definitely a lot bigger than the Pleasanton one. We did notice it was not as clean as our table and the booth had a few stains on them and needed to be wiped down. We ordered and appreciated that the food came promptly. We got the set dosa, benne dosa with masala, and the mega combo that comes with idli, vadha, upma, and Pongal. All 3 dishes came with sambar and 3 chutneys. The sambar was on the spicy end so we weren't able to enjoy that with our food. The benne dosa was also quite spicy and the inside was lined with a spicy powder. We have had this before and it usually comes pretty mild or we would have definitely specified! The set dosa was good but a bit on the oilier side. My favorite was the upma and Pongal. This spot is mostly self service. They give you a jug of water and a few glasses and you pay upfront at the register. If you need anything, you can definitely get someone's attention but they are mostly focused on getting orders in. If we are in the area and craving south indian food, we would come back for a few items and make sure to specify the spice level!

Went again today for breakfast, and honestly the staff are struggling. No complaints about the food. But for the first half hour that we were there, there was only one lady handling everyone, and it just got more and more busy and it was obvious that she was overwhelmed. Another guy stepped in to help, but still I noticed that the fresh and hot dosa/poori were sitting on the kitchen counter waiting to be served to the table. So good was ready but no manpower to deliver them to the table. Highly recommend hiring more staff if you know weekends are going to be busy! Service affects everything else. Even a good hot dosa or poori doesn't taste that good if it's sitting on the counter & served cold. Today we ordered benne dosa & poori masala, and both the items were good! Benne dosa was so crispy on the soft and soft on the inside.

Thanks to the owners for opening this restaurant in Warmsprings. Great choice of location. Tried their Friday Lunch Thali. Reasonably priced at 13.95$, they offer a limited portion, quality meal. Vendakkai Poriyal - Well done with a nice twist of peanuts. I wish there was more. It was a small cup. Orange Pumpkin Kootu - Creamy & Yummy! Mixed Rice: Bisibelebath & Curd rice - there is scope for improvement here. Taste could be better. Kaara Kozhambu - Thali Highlight - Delicious and rightly spiced. Garlic Rasam - had a nice kick Semiya Pasam- could be slightly better with more nuts and milk; rightly sweetened tho. Portions: Poriyal quantity could be more and Kaara Kozhambu quantity could be less instead. They could be ideally swapped. Request: Please add MINI FILTER COFFEE TO THE MENU Kind service, Thali could be brought faster. Food is Served in compostables Hopefully they can sustain the taste, quality & service. Would love to go back to vet their tiffin items.

It's just a little cold in there for some reason. We started with a watermelon spritz and the inji-puli lotus appetizer since we'd never tried anything like that, and it was very yummy and had such a nice crispy but soft texture. It was also a good portion for all four of us. We got the goat curry and the chettinad spice vegetables, and a few parathas to share. We were afraid it wouldn't be enough but the parathas are actually very filling, and also have a really great texture of both crispy and soft, and delicious flavor. The curries were good, could have used a bit more salt but good spice. The stars of the show were the desserts - this deserves its own section because omg I'm still thinking about the desserts!!! We got the gulab jamun brûlée - an amazingly well done take on creme brûlée with a perfect top, easy to crack and beautifully flavored. The filling was amazing and sweet and so so yummy. They also were kind enough to give us a complimentary chocolate cake which was absolutely amazing. I'm generally not too impressed by chocolate but the quality of this cake was phenomenal with perfect sweetness and richness. I need these two again !! Definitely recommend coming here for an occasion.

The Mutton Biryani, was flavorful and definitely many times better than chicken biryani. The Haleem was the absolute best item we ordered and a definite hit, making it worth trying again. Be warned about their 'Family Pack'. It's advertised as a family size but serves about two people, not definitely four, which is quite pricey for a 32oz bucket at $40. While the Haleem's quality justified the price as a seasonal item, the 'Family Pack' concept for biryani is poor value. I'd recommend the Haleem and Mutton Biryani, but steer clear of the Chicken Biryani and don't expect the "Family Pack" to feed more than two, 3 at best.
