I know this is technically a Pav Bhaji place- but I am not a fan of Pav Bhaji and Dhosa but I was there for the other Indian street food. Over all I liked how easy and quick the service was, it is a fast food place, you go up to the counter, order and they bring the food to the table. I loved the pizza (tasted just like india pizza to me- which is one of my favorites) and the cheese sandwich was very good! The chats and sev puri are also very good. I think this is a great place for a snack- which is what brought me in that day! I will definitely be returning soon! read more

Disclaimer - this review is from someone who has had original honest pav bhaji, tava pulav in Gujarat a lot of times, so yes I am comparing to that one coz it is the same brand. Does not live upto the expectations, the food is just okay. I grew up in Gujarat where Honest is from originally and it does not compare to that one at all. Feels like they cater to the Americans or Indo Americans. The first time I went there, we ordered regular pav bhaji which was bland and my husband, sister and I - all 3 hailing from gujarat - were beru disappointed. The next time we went, someone told to order spicy bhaji to get some taste but it was jus chilli powder added. Tava pulav was also tasteless. We also tried the pani puri and Indian pizza. Pani puri serves the purpose if you are craving for it but it isnt that great. Indian pizza was amazing and reminded me of Jasu Ben's pizza (any amdavadi would know what I am talking about) or Havmor's Paris Pizza (any valsadi would know this one) but the second time it was just bad. Overall, never a satisfying experience... I guess I went there a few times and ordered takeout once. My disappointment was so bad I couldn't believe and hence so many tries. If I ever go here again, then it is coz somebody I know really wants to try it. read more

One of the better pav bhaji i have eaten in america. Nice buttery and good mumbai style pav. Make sure to get spicy version if you can handle it. Also the pulao is very good. The restaurant is always packed as it is next to patel bros and the parking lot is also quite packed. Overall a great place read more

Crap.. dont go.. peoples dont know how to treat the customer. This is what happened, Went to the place. No sing or people to say table need to be reserved in a self serving restaurant. Stood in the queue for 15 min and place the order.In the meantime all the tables marked as reserved. So asked waiter for a place and he started describing table reserve. Another waiter came with my food and the one describe the reservation forced the waiter to get back the food and canceled my order. F*** man. So don't go, they have Honest in the restaurant name not for the service. read more

This restaurant is the first thing you see when you enter Gujarat/Ahmedabad by road and it does live to the expectations. Best place to eat Pav bhaji and Tava pulav. Till date best Pav bhaji I had outside india and it's great to see in Chicago. read more

Not gonna lie, I was nervous and felt my experience at Honest would be a toss up. I really enjoyed my pav bhaji and mango lassi though! My mom really enjoyed her dosa and the sambhar was incredible. They make everything mild, medium, spicy so there really is an option for any palette. Service was faster than you'd expect for Indian food and the cashier was knowledgeable on the menu items (that's not the case everywhere!). Very convenient location within an all Indian plaza in Schaumburg. Open until 10 which is just long enough post closing of the other stores in the strip. Opportunities for improvement would be table turnaround. It was quite crowded during my visit so we had to claim a table as we saw patrons bundling up and subsequently we had to sit at a dirty table momentarily. My dad called the busboy over shortly thereafter but I feel they should be more attentive to the turn around and arrive prior to our settling in. I noticed the same with other patrons' tables. The bathroom was untidy, smelled and was out of soap. The food triumphed and I look forward to trying Honest in the homeland later this year after my pleasant experience here in Chicago. read more

I went there for the first time. We ordered Mysore masala dosa n polau. The dosa was small in size, over oily n the sambar also came in a small to-go kind bowl which wasn't up to the mark means there was no vegetables in the dall. DON'T BELIEVE THE HATERS!!!!! This is an absolute wonderful addition to the Patel Plaza offering authentic, fresh vegetarian Indian snack food. We tried a multitude of offerings in the menu and they were all excellent. The masala dosa was was well prepared, perfect amount of sourness to the dosa and the potato curry inside was perfectly seasoned and tasted homemade. Even the chutneys were fresh and well prepared. The pav baji (no idea about spelling) was one of the best I've tasted in the US. Almost taste like you were at a roadside stand in Bombay. We also had Pani Puri and dahi Pani and the Pan, also all were fresh and flavorful. As far as service, it was quick, friendly and helpful. They provided the meals in a rapid fashion and they were helpful in picking what to order. The only suggestion I would have is to turn down the background music, it was a little loud for my liking. Overall, an excellent choice for a quick lunch or even afternoon snack. We will definitely be back again. read more

Pav bhaji was ok nothing special at all you will get somewhere else far more better for less price and Mysore masala dosa was joke. Sambar was less with oil floating and top and no veggies. Didn't liked there hyped Pav Bhaji. Spice and salt was missing. We ordered samosa chaat and that too was disappointing. We expected potato as a stuffing in Samosa but it turned out to be only chickpea flour with overpowering raw dry spices. read more

I don't know what to say about this place other than they have all of us brainwashed. I am not against higher prices for good quality food... but I am not going to ever order there new info-Chinese items. First of all they sell you an entree priced item and they serve you the equivalent of what other places give to you in a soup container. Tried this place twice in one week!!!. Amazing pav bhaji, not sure what that white stuff is in a cup, looks like it's suppose to be onion but mixed with lettuce! HAHAHA desi style to increase quantity, adding some cheap lettuce. I agree with other Yelpers quantity is not sufficient; Something really weird is going on with their quantity; I had Dhosa and didn't think sambhar / daal was sufficient for me to finish dhosa. So far I have had pay bhaji, Pani Puri, Bombay sandwich, toasted sandwich, dosa, baked Indian pizza and couple of chats. When I had it i Italy when they opened, it was fantastic, reminded me of back home but now the taste I feel is deteriorating. Worst restaurant in terms of service! Can't say about the food because we decided to leave after a 45 min wait for most of our food! Small and easy cook menu yet they couldn't meet the expectation we had! Had ordered 1 potato sandwich which we were served after 35 mins exact! The sandwich was good but don't see why we had to wait for that long to be honest , HOnest! When asked about the other order which was masala pav they say 15 mins more which is ridiculous. The lady at the counter says the chefs are making fresh mix which I just can't believe.. They take orders after orders both for dine in and takeaways and we did see takeaway guests get their orders well before the dine in guests. Best pav bhaji in Illinois!! It's their specialty and wherever I go I'm always comparing it to this one. It's conviniently located next to Patel brothers so I recommend you have a nice meal here then walk it off while you shop for your weekly groceries. Last time we tried their pizza and I'm not a fan. Also all veg so super easy to choose something from their vast menu. Their dosas are also good but not the best. Their puris are also good. If you're not into spicy make sure you mention it because they love their spice there but they accommodate anyone. And if it's too spicy have a mango Lassi they are real good their and help cool off that spice. read more

Havent even tried their food yet but I'm already turned off by this place. I placed a 20 dollar order for food to dine in. All the guys behind the counter couldnt stop their chattering to take my order. I had to repeat my order several times. Then the guy behind the counter had the nerve to ask about the dessert I bought from another place and wanted to know if we were also going to eat that here. When I told him yes, he told me I cant do that. Even though I bought food and was looking to dine in. This is a huge problem with desis. We were one of maybe two other customers there, ordered only 1 plate of uthapam and it took the staff over 25 minutes to deliver. The food is amazing! If you love Mumbai style pav bhaji then this is the place. The dosas and chats are delicious. The best is pani puri, it's awesome. We have tasted everything except the sandwiches and they are all delicious. The pulao is the only thing that's not impressive. The quantity is really small portion and it is not that tasty and too oily for my taste. But it tastes a lot like tava pulao you get on the streets of mumbai and a lot of my friends love it. The service is just great, the staff is friendly and helpful. It's really crowded on weekends so be prepared for some waiting. Very poor service. I ordered a carry-out, & reached there 30 mins later. When I reached inside to get food they told me 1 item is missing because they are out of it. Why couldn't they call me before? 8/15/18 Want to be disrespected by a bunch of childish and juvenile staff? That's what you're going to get at this place. We have been going to Honest 2-3 times a week for the last year or so and have ordered the same item every single time- Pav Bhaji with extra soft pav(bread). Nothing special about the food but my wife has braces on, so she can only eat soft food (hence, the extra soft pav). This time was no different and we ordered the same thing, but decided to eat it at the restaurant instead of getting it to go. Once we got our food, the order for the pav was hard and not anywhere close to being soft, so we sent it back, and they were replaced with soft pavs. We were happy - no harm done. Moments later, a guy from the kitchen sent out an order through the little window and yelled 'crunchy pav' in the most sarcastic way. All the staff who were standing by the window started laughing and sheepishly looked at us to see if we had heard what he said (our table was right in front of the window). My wife and I were taken aback as we knew that they were being sarcastic because moments ago we had sent the hard pavs back. My wife even asked why they though that was so funny. All the staff members immediately got really nervous and were staring at each other, not knowing what to say or do. We then gestured for someone to come to the table so that we could ask for the manager. Once the waiter came to the table, he told us that there was no manager on duty. We then asked for the name of the unprofessional employee in the kitchen, and he said he would go to the kitchen to find out. About 10 minutes later, a female staff member came to our table to ask us if everything was okay (mind you, she was one of the people who had laughed so she knew exactly what was going on). We told her how disrespectful that whole incident was and how unprofessional they were being. Her excuse was that the guy in the kitchen was messing up orders all day and they were laughing because someone else ordered crunchy pavs and he had messed that up too. I guess her excuse was that the kitchen staff is incompetent. Once again, we asked her for the guy's name who made that comment but she told us that they couldn't give us the name because the owner is very strict and that they were not allowed to tell the customers the employees names. I guess, instead of taking responsibility for their actions, she felt the need to throw her boss under the bus. She also went on to tell us how 'decent' all those guys who worked there were even though she's the only woman working there, and how she didn't want to ruin the guy's reputation. As annoyed as I was at that point, I almost burst out laughing because of the absurdity of what she was saying. Suffice to say, Honest just lost a long time customer. We will NOT be back! read more

Pav bhaji and all the street food including dhai and pani puri was on point here for sure. The pulao rice is amazing. It's spicy so be aware. Great location. Great service. Good for kids.
