5- star vegan food and 5-star non vegan food! 5-star service! Short and sweet just like me :) Plentiful disabled parking and ramp up close to the entrance Will definitely be back.

Soup dumplings galore. When you walk in you can see the folks making the dumplings fresh. We were told it would be super busy but we must've come at the right time because right after we were seated, they had a full house walk in. A few notable dishes, say yes to the string beans. They may just look like standard ones, but the crunch and the flavors made them so enjoyable, I almost ate all of it before the rest of the dishes came out. The truffle soup dumpling and the surf and turf dumplings were delicious, highly recommend trying these. I think for the price you get what you paid for. As far the service, I think it was a bit of a miss because we had so many people coming by our table but none of them could help without grabbing the guy who took our order each time. Whether it be refilling water, asking for more napkins etc. it made it really awkward and take so much longer because they had to go find him. Overall a good experience, I'd come back to try other dishes as well.

This is my third time visiting Lao Hu Tong in Schaumburg and still had a great experience. The fuqifeipian (夫妻肺片) was very flavorful and well-seasoned, with just the right amount of spice that I like. My husband ordered the Pan fried dumplings, and they were so good that he finished the entire plate by himself lol. My favorite dish is definitely their soup ddumpling, xiaolongbao (小笼包). They are incredibly juicy, and the wrapper is thin and delicate without falling apart. Every bite is full with delicious broth and flavor. Service: Our server was very polite, but spoke quite softly, making it hard to hear at times. We also didn't receive any water refills or hot tea refills during our visit. Other than that, the food was great and we enjoyed our meal We'll definitely be coming back whenever we craving dumplings.

This newly opened Asian dining place was nothing short of totally amazing!! Every dish we tried had its own unique flavors. Noodles, buns, entrees and soup dumplings are all hand made in house and are served piping hot to the table. The condiments on the table of hot chili oil and dumpling sauce are made in house too and go so well with everything! Service was fast, friendly, excellent and our server Thandan answered all our questions about various dishes. We tried a variety of items and they were all very flavorful. It was very very busy and there was a line but it went very fast. Worth the wait even so. My ultimate favorites were the shrimp dumplings in a really unique sauce that had a real Szechuan pepper kick at the end as well as the chive pancakes. All the food here is fabulous! Prices and portions are decent too!

Looking for an authentic Chinese restaurant so we decided to try Lao Hu Tong and the food did not disappoint. We decided to try to go a little early so we arrived around 5:30 PM and it was semi-busy but we were seated immediately. The place is small to medium size. The server was nice and gave us water immediately. As we looked over the menu there were a few things we wanted to get, we had to control ourselves. We ordered the following: Broccoli, Veggie Dumplings, Veggie Fried Rice, Scallion Pancakes, and the Farmers Soup. The broccoli were bright green and not over cooked. It still had a crisp to it and was really good. The veggie dumpling were delicious and I loved the fact that you got 8 pieces and were a decent size. Other places are small in size and quantity. Def a repeat. The Veggie Fried Rice was my favorite. It had that smoky taste like it had been cooked on a wok that was seasoned for years. The Scallion Pancakes were a close first, light and crispy and had a really good dipping sauce. The Farmer Noodle Soup was soothing and comforting. I enjoyed all the yummy flavors with every spoonful and the noodles were nice and tender. My wife enjoyed her Taro Milk Tea. Overall, the food, service and experience were good. The price was great for the amount of food you received. I for sure would come back to the other dishes.

Came here mainly because I've been craving Din Tai Fung and wanted some xiao long baos. The XLBs are definitely some of the better ones I've had in Chicago. Still not Din Tai Fung level, but they definitely satisfied the craving. The skin could be thinner and I think the dumplings could be a little smaller so they're easier to eat in one bite, but they were juicy and flavorful. I also liked that they offer a sampler with one of each XLB flavor, which is what both my husband and I ordered. The green beans were solid. We also got the Chengdu chicken, which is supposed to be served cold, but the chicken actually came out hot. Flavor-wise though, it was pretty good. The chili wontons were interesting because the sauce leaned more spicy sesame than the typical chili oil sauce I'm used to for this dish. I personally like sesame sauce so I didn't mind it, but I do think the wontons needed more filling because they felt a little too dough-heavy. Lastly, we ordered the beef noodle soup. The broth could've had a deeper, richer flavor, but overall it was still a good bowl of noodles. The noodles had the perfect chewiness for me and the beef was tender. My husband thought the noodles could've been a bit more al dente though. Food came out fast, but the service definitely needs improvement. There were only a few tables occupied when we went, so it wasn't busy, but it was surprisingly hard to flag someone down or get anyone's attention while staff members were standing around. What really bothered me was that they forgot our beef noodle soup order, and when we asked about it, the server initially came back with the order sheet trying to tell us we never ordered it, only to realize that we actually did. Also, the tea was $5 and it ended up just being a tea bag instead of loose leaf tea, which felt a little overpriced.

Wow really enjoyed this place! It's not that big on the inside so better for smaller groups of 4. The food was very flavorful. I really enjoyed the black truffle dumplings. The cucumber salad was ok, cut a tad thick. The pirk wonton was also really good. The real stand out were the flavorful soup. So much noodles that really absorbed the flavoring. The braised beef was also very tender. Service was fast and friendly. I will most definitely be coming here again.

Finally got to try this after having it on the radar! And I'm pleasantly surprised with how good everything was! We came for lunch right at open and it was perfectly un-busy, but by 12 the lunch rush was definitely starting to pick up. It's nice and clean inside, the waiters were super attentive and great hosts. We never had to flag anyone down for anything, they came at good cadences without feeling overbearing or like we'd been forgotten. What we got: Crab and shrimp soup dumplings - If you like seafood, these flavors are great! The crab had a really nice crabby flavor that stood out in a good way. And the texture of the filling was excellent. The broth wasn't too fatty/oily. The dumpling skin was nice and thin. Most of mine stayed in tact though some did break, but as long as you have your soup spoon ready it's not a problem. Pan fried mini dumplings - These are the perfect bite size! And the lattice! So delicate but crispy! Scallion pan cake - So flaky and crispy! And the sauce for it is kind of fun--it's not the typical dipping sauce but a spicy mayo type sauce. Dan dan noodles - Surprisingly delightful! Usually dan dan noodles are quite heavy in flavor and how they make you feel, but this one is so well-balanced! The noodles are chewy, the spice isn't fire-hot-burn-your-mouth-need-milk type of spicy, but just a hint of that mala flavor with the addition of brightness from the cilantro and pickled vegetable. The peanuts added this perfect crispy crunchy texture that paired so nicely with all the other soft, chewy textures of the meat and noodles. Broccoli - Lol need some veg with all the heavy, meaty, carby dishes. This was delightfully garlicky and tender without being mushy. Everything we got was so good. Can't wait to try more of the menu. Our little enjoyed pretty much everything--even had some of the dan dan noodles before we mixed it up with all the chili oil--and she loved getting to see them make dumplings through the window. I will say this is probably not great for big groups. Most seating is booth style, with one section of tables that could fit larger groups. But your best size is probably 4-5. And the changing station in the women's bathroom is a bit inconvenient--it's right next to the door so that if someone were to enter it would knock straight into your child on the table when open. Essentially it blocks anyone from being able to enter or exit if it's in use. I would say this is probably my favorite of all the "lao" named restaurants. I find Szechuan/northern flavors are often more bold and heavy and sometimes leaves me feeling not great even though it tastes great, but overall this was so flavorful without punching you in the face. It's more like a ballet for your tastebuds.

Every time I drove past golf road, I see this place packed with people and waiting list. Normally, I'm picky to try chinese restaurants mostly I grew up eating the autenthic cuisine, and here in Chicago a lot of places say they are the good stuff but it still lacking. Wrong, this one fills all expectations and cooks the food like I grew up eating with, love everything they made and some fusion items. The noodles and the soup dumpling were the highlight of the night. I know waiting in line is kinda annoying, but the wait..... it is 100% worth. Don't miss out on this place.

Overall, decent experience, but walked away disappointed with their soup dumplings. I had already reviewed the menu before I came, thus I knew what I wanted. I went with: - Soup Dumplings Combo - Chili Wonton - Shrimp - Hot & Spicy Cucumber My favorite was the hot & spicy cucumber. It reminded me of dish I used to get at Din Tai Fung in China. The chili wonton was decent, was surprised by the peanut butter on the bottom of the bowl... wasn't expecting that. Biggest disappointment was the soup dumplings. The berkshire pork in the dumpling had weird taste to it, not sure if it was because the meat went bad or what, but definitely was off. The dumpling's wrapper at the top was very thick, dry and hard to eat. The host was nice, welcomed me as soon as I entered... the server was hit or miss, water didn't get filled, thank goodness I paid for the tea.

If you're craving Din Tai Fung but want something more affordable and casual, this place is such a solid option. Total dupe vibes in the best way. It's walk-in only (no reservations), but it moves pretty quickly. One of my favorite parts was getting to watch them make dumplings fresh in the window -- always a good sign. Food-wise, overall really good. The shrimp wonton soup was a little bland broth-wise, but the wontons themselves were delicious and made up for it. The cucumbers were super flavorful and refreshing -- definitely recommend. String beans were just okay for me, nothing special. We tried a few different dumplings and honestly they were all solid. The shrimp shumai was a standout and probably my favorite of everything we ordered. Great spot if you want good dumplings without the long wait or higher price tag. I'll definitely be back!

first time trying this place had a taste for dumplings and they were amazing. I got the vegetarian dumplings that had chinese mushrooms in them and they were really tasty. I ordered chicken cutlet with soup that was also very delicious. the portion of soup is good amount. we went at a good time and then it got crazy busy. I really enjoyed it and def will be back again.

Turns out, the only thing that got better was my ability to ignore red flags. The food can be good--sometimes even genuinely tasty--but it's like playing culinary roulette. The same dish never tastes the same twice. It often feels like they just grab whatever ingredients are lying around, toss in some meat, and hope for the best. If you like consistency, you'll find yourself missing other restaurants while you're still sitting in this one. The service is a mood swing. A couple of servers are warm and hospitable, and I appreciate them. But others are rushed, cold, and oddly entitled about tips. I've had the bill slapped down while I'm mid-bite and plates whisked away before I'm done eating. I absolutely believe in tipping well for good service--but dropping food, not refilling drinks, barely checking in, and then hovering for a big tip isn't service; it's pressure with a fake smile. And then there's the rice. I never thought I'd have serious feelings about rice bowls, but here we are. They serve rice in tiny, kid-sized bowls like it's some rare limited-edition collectible. You're expected to stretch that little scoop across a full entrée. For what they charge, it sends a pretty clear message: generosity is not part of the business model. The final straw--and the reason I'm writing this--was my last visit. Shortly after eating there, I ended up with nasty stomach issues and two days of terrible diarrhea. I can't see what happens in the kitchen, but I can connect timing. Once I lose trust in a restaurant's hygiene, it's over. I've only given that "never again" label to one other place in my life. Yu's just earned the second spot. If you're reading this before going, imagine your future self looking back and saying, "Why did I ignore that review?" There are plenty of places where the food is consistent, the staff doesn't rush you or guilt-trip you for tips, rice isn't treated like gold, and you don't spend the next 48 hours regretting your decision. After five years of giving Yu's Mandarin chance after chance, I'm done. If you value your money, time, and stomach, you might want to skip the experiment altogether.

Then the other server that brought our entrees spilled my husbands tea and again no offering to getting a fresh cup. We had to ask AGAIN for a fresh cup! While the portions were generous, the quality of all the food has gone way down. The special family recipe of thier shrimp dish Gan Pong is nothing but fried shrimp with dried chili peppers and no flavor. The Hunan spicy beef and chicken appeared to be all globs and sticky because of excessive and over use of corn starch used during the cooking process.
