We've been to Honest twice now, once for a corporate team lunch during their unlimited Dosa special on Wednesday's and another time for dinner with my husband. Both visits were great, and we'll definitely be back. The unlimited dosa special is such a fun experience, especially with a group. On both visits, we ordered the Pav Bhaji with many extra pav because it's just that good. My husband also got the Bahubali Sandwich, which was huge and felt like Honest's take on a Bombay Masala Sandwich, perfect for sharing. The service was excellent. Our servers were friendly, knowledgeable about the menu, and happy to help with recommendations. The ambiance is colorful, quirky, and full of energy, which perfectly matches the Indian street food vibe. Honest is definitely worth a visit. read more

Came with some people from fitness class for lunch and we were all happy. One of my classmates is vegetarian so it left us omnivores just as happy. I ordered the Cheese Butter Masala ($22.99) with an order of Garlic Naan ($6.99), and wow. Rich, savory, buttery in the best way. It's yhe kind of dish where every single mouthful feels unreal. The sauce was luxurious without being heavy, the cheese was indulgent, and the naan was perfect for scooping up every last bit. Wherever I travel in the US and I see Honest Indian restaurant, I HAVE TO TRY! This reminds me of my hometown in India where it first started. I was pleasantly surprised to find this in the Phoenix area. It is probably the only honest that has a bar! And they had happy hour too! Nothing like having a glass of champagne with chaat! Their chaats were spot on, we tired sev puri, vada pav and dabeli. Indian style bhakri pizza was good but lacked the sweet and spicy sauce that I am used to. Pav bhaji which is honest's signature dish, was ok.. something was missing from the authentic taste, I can't pin point. Service was great and the ambiance is elegant. We were happy to see a new Indian restaurant in the area. When you walk in, it is bright and modern inside. Very spacious. Service was so-so. Nobody was at the hostess desk to greet us. When someone finally acknowledged us, it wasn't too friendly or welcoming. The menu selection is a bit mixed. It's all vegetarian but there are North Indian dishes and South Indian dishes. Then, there are Indochinese fusion dishes. Some items could use better descriptions or photos. There is a thali that sounded possible but I had no idea what came in it. Our server took a while to come to the table. So we ordered our drinks and food together. Then, the kitchen took a bit longer than desired to deliver food out. I love Dosa and Idli so that's what I ordered since I was starving. They each could be a meal by themselves. The idli was good but the consistency of it was improper. It did not hold together at all to dip in sambar or chutney. It tasted good was very grainy and I could only eat it with a fork. The dosa was huge and a little too greasy. They formed it so thin that it also was hard to eat with the sambar or chutneys that came with it. Ok I'm not Indian, I'm not vegetarian and I'm not an expert on Indian food. Lols But I love it, I've had my fair share of Indian eats as well as homemade from my friends. Plenty of parking outside and when you walk in, I appreciate the nice entry with the food cart, moped and food pictures. Very instagrammy though I didn't get to take any pics of it. Lols My friend and I were super hungry and greeted right away when we walked in on a Monday evening. The restaurant is pretty spacious. It wasn't busy yet, maybe two other tables of people. Our waiter was nice and quick with getting our orders, water and serving our food. There's a lot of variety on the menu from Indian sandwiches, pizza, dosas, Bombay chat, Indian Chinese, naan, to masalas and dal. Some may say it's too much but I love it! I never see pani puris at Indian restaurants so I was excited to get this and I love a good dosa so that's what I ordered. Usually the dosa I've had came rolled with the potatoes inside but this was draped like a triangle over the potatoes. Both were delish. The only thing I didn't care for was the white and green chutney for the dosa but I liked the red one. I love Gobi Manchurian (no gravy) so I ordered that one as well, it was delish. Very spicy so I wouldn't order that if you can't hang. Lols My friend ordered the samosa chaat and liked it. I've never had this before, not something I'd order again but it was ok for me. It was interesting to see that around 8 it got very busy. My friend and I were busy talking that we didn't realize it was almost 10 when the waiter kindly told us they were closing soon! Do you know what's good for rainy weather? Chana masala. Chana masala is a chickpea curry cooked in a tomato-based sauce and it's the perfect, warming, comfort meal. Get it with their garlic naan and it's a perfect combination. The only negative thing I have to say is that I got it as spicy as possible and it was barely spicy. My friend even tried it and remarked how mild it was. It's a big open eatery. Very spacious, very airy, but also very clean. I like this place! read more

We got there when it opened so we were 1st patrons in the restaurant. The menu is pretty large so we did have questions. Our server didn't seem to be aware of the menu and couldn't answer any of our questions. We each ordered something different to try. Here is the funny (not funny) thing. We each ordered and our orders came out separately, not together. My lunch came last and10 min from the first one that was placed. I even had to ask the owner (he looked to be an owner) where my meal was, and he had to go fetch it. Our server never came back again. When I looked at their open kitchen, there was one cook. I can't imagine what the place must be like when it is busy. I wouldn't bother coming! There wasn't anything special or extraordinary about the food to warrant a second chance. Finally made it out to this restaurant and we were not disappointed! We all enjoyed the indo Chinese options, Chinese bhel, mobile manchirian (dry) and veg manchurian w gravy. We used to go to here often. However, offlate it really has gone from bad to worse. Today was possibly the worst experience, leading to a bad stomach ache shortly after leaving. We ordered couple of things, 90% of our order was just a disappointment. The Masala soda was like crushed Hajmola candy blended in water and no soda. The pizza was an absolute disaster: it was hard, over cooked and crusty, the cheese clearly seemed stale and overall it just lacked flavour, the dosa came without vegetable..) There's no excuse to how bad the service has gotten and the taste. It's slowly turning into a chain restaurant with zero customer service and worse food quality. The Honest in Chandler has to be my best experiences with Honest. The food is delicious, the service is great and the ambiance is fine dine. The ambience at this Honest is very different from the others which have been more of self service kinds! I've tried the gujrati thali, bahubali sandwich and Chole bature. Vegetarian! Sure let's try it! I believe outside decor had the outdoor lights hanging from the previous establishment. They added a tuk tuk which is like a little golf cart vehicle for driving people around in India. When you walk inside they have some nice up-close pictures of some of their dishes, some instagram worthy picture spots by their moped, a food stand and an a greenery vibe with chairs and their brand HonesT. There were plenty of seating everywhere with hues of yellows and bright colors adorned with lots of colorful bangles. They have a glass area so you can see the cooks. One area that we were sitting at looks like it can be a private area to seat around 20 people. We decided to do street foods only- What we ordered: Bhaji Pav- Vegetable curry with species and bread (pav) $14. Flavors were wonderful but it was spicy for me. This presentation was different for me because the pav was all mixed in the bhaji whereas I've had it with bread on the side and you dip the bread with it. Fried papad 2pc - this looks like a big round tortilla chip. It's actually made of lentils and some salt and eaten as a snack. Kids always love these. $2 Dahi Puri- this is made of puffy crisp wheat shells (puri) filled with potatoes, cilantro mint green chutney (spicy), tamarind chutney (sweet) and topped with yogurt (dahi) and sev (crunchy fried gram flour), cilantro and purple sliced carrots (which is new to me). This is a fave of mine and is a Mumbai popular snack. $9 Then we also ordered another Dahi Puri without the green chutney but still had some spices that was a tiny bit spicy. Yogurt helps to clam down that spice. Plain Uttapum - rice lentil pancake with some chutneys: a coconut chutney, tomato chutney, sanbar (which is a vegetable lentil soup). Sanbar was good but a bit of spice $9 Steam Idli (2pc) - South Indian rice cake (which are soft little mounds with texture of a cake) with similar sanbar and chutneys like above. You dip the idli into the sanbar and chutneys. The rice cakes fell apart so that is not what I'm used to. $7 Mango shake - refreshing mango shake for the summer $8 Overall tastes were flavorful, spicy is roaming around and a variety of options were available. Next time I'll have to try entree dishes with naan and some other typical foods that I've also tried. The server kept asking us if we wanted to order desserts and we kept saying no. We were full. Don't get fooled by the decor and the looks of the restaurant. I don't know how to describe this vegetarian Indian eatery. They have table service but the food menu has too much variety that gives food court vibe! Got seated immediately. We ordered 2 chai, Samosa chat w/d choley, Mysore masala dosa, and wada pav. The food came so quickly that we were surprised. Like we literally just ordered. The chai was decent, came in a red mud cup! The chat was stale. The samosa clearly was stale. The dressing on top just saved the flavor. Next our Dosa was moist, mushy, and cold. It was not crispy at all. How can a freshly made Dosa be soft and cold? The potatoes inside felt too dry. The chutney and sambar were clearly stale. Next the wada pav was decent then the dosa. I wish a normal Hawaiian bun instead of sweet brioche bun was used. The bun totally killed the authenticity of Wada Pav! It breaks my heart to see promising new business go downhill and give low importance to the quality of the food. You have to try this place if you are vegetarian or vegan! This place is on my radar since the time it opened and finally got a chance to try for a lunch. The ambiance, decor everything is 5/5, finally an Indian restaurant who has given some importance to the look and feel of the place. We were seated and the service is quick and everything is digital, the menu is available and placed order to the server. We went with couple of chaat items samosa chaat and dahi poori, both excellent, flavors were good and tasty. I would highly recommend the chilli garlic noodles, the taste is top notch. We tried the chaas, it was alright and not the best. Overall a good place for lot of options. I hope they stay consistent and quality doesn't go down. Wow talk about some tasty Indian food. I can't speak on behalf of the vibe of the restaurant as I've never been in person, but I can speak on the food. Their packaging to go when ordering online is good for transport. I've never had an issue with my food spilling or being messy. While the food is it a bit on pricier side, it's sooo worth it. The chili paneer dry is so flavorful, spicy, and coated just right to soak in all the flavor. I always lick the tub clean. I also get the paneer 65. I can never decide on chili paneer or paneer 65 so I always get both. It's equally good if not even better the next day. Next thing are their sandwiches. You can't go wrong with any of them, but I always end up getting their vada pav. They give two on what's like Hawaiian sweet rolls. It's filling and good value. Honest is right down the street from my workplace. Some of my co-workers have either been to Honest in another city or heard really positive things about it, so we were excited to give it a try during our lunch break. It is completely vegetarian for any meat-lovers out there, but the food is extremely rich and filling that I personally don't mind at all. The majority of Indian restaurants in Phoenix are mostly "westernized" types of food - butter chickens, tikka masala, biryani, etc. Honest specializes in Mumbai street food which is much less common. I was able to try a lot of new dishes that I had never heard of. We ate family style and split a lot of dishes - Honest Special pav bhaji, bhel puri, palak paneer, and a few others that I can't remember. We ordered about 5 or 6 dishes between 6 people and we left very full with several boxes to go. The portions appear small, but some of the dishes are very rich and filling (pav bhaji, palak paneer). One of my friends has spent a lot of time in Mumbai and she said the food was decent but not completely authentic. For me with no baseline for how it should taste, I thought it was excellent! read more

So, if you visited under prior owners you would have entered a stale industrial opened area. They have softened it and brightened it. The furniture is comfy and it's not nearly as loud now that they have some furniture to absorb the sounds. This is a chain restaurant that originated in India in 1975 that was started as a food cart. In 2022 there were 39 restaurants in the US. They have an extensive menu. You can choose between vegetarian, Jain, swaminarayan. I ordered a garlic noodle dish. The waitress was kind enough to tell me that the peppers in there will light you up. I have Hindi friends. And they don't claim a temp until there are flames shooting out my ....... So I heeded her warning and asked for no peppers. Everything was wonderful. Freshly made. Fresh ingredients. So flavorful. The masala soda was interesting. We were excited to explore this new Indian restaurant with an Interesting name. It's great to have a pure vegetarian/ vegan spot. I feel such options are definitely limited. The food itself is a solid three stars, nothing exceptional, the curries were basic. Ambiance is inviting, and xtra points for cleanliness. Service was ok. We were there on a weekend and it was getting difficult to manage tables. Loved the mango lassi, dabeli and different chat options on the menu. We didn't realize this was a vegetarian restaurant when we chose it, but personally I don't mind as I love a lot of vegetarian foods anyway. It looks like this restaurant is relatively new, and it was very busy for lunch on a Saturday. We ordered many dishes, including bhaji pav, samosas, hakka noodles, paneer tikka masala, malai kofta, naan, etc. We were very excited to try this restaurant, and thought we might have been overeager and ordered too much. However, the portion sizes are fairly small, especially considering the prices, so we were able to eat 99% of what we ordered. The food itself was good and we all got to try a little bit of everything, but I'm not sure the prices are justified. read more

This is arguably one of the best Indian joints I've ever been to in Arizona. The ambiance and interiors are fantastic (something which Indian cuisine lacks). Please don't let the negative reviews fool you about the food. There is a wide variety of choices, and my father was particularly pleased by all the Bombay street food. The service was very fast and everything tasted phenomenal. My only complaint was one person in our family felt they had an allergic reaction to one of the food/shakes who had a peanut allergy. Ok, so I found two cheat codes for this place. First is to take your Indian friend here and have them order all the food stuff. Secondly take the boss into paying for it all as a team builder event. And with that said, let me preface that while I've had Indian food before I've probably always played it safe and ordered things I knew I'd like. But this time we just have food flying in and we all had it family style so I got to have a lot of different things, which is a wonderful way to immerse yourself into the food experience. So here is what we tried (and pardon me as I may have got these mixed up) Katappa Sandwhich. This boy was messy, but quite good. It was much more smooth than a lot of the other foods and had no spiciness that I remember. This felt "very American" in its composition. Very safe for the less adventurous. Dahi Puri. These were good and a bit different to my American tongue. I think I ate like half of the order myself. Quite good. The cold sour cream next to the breaded ball was delicious. Pani puri. This is something I had never seen before and was quite a treat. A bit spicy and had great texture. Having to load your sauces inside was kind of fun too - how spicy do you want it to be determined how you loaded it. Garlic chili noodles. These were quite good. It was one of the favorites the table had. Cannot go too wrong with noodles. Garlic was just right on these guys as was the moisture content (not too slippery and not too dry where they all stuck together). Gobi Manchurian. These were spicy. But man were they good. The texture of these was superb as well. Crispy veggies. Same flavoring as the Gobi Manchurian but somehow better. More crunchy. I may be getting these two up - the one I liked more was the one made with cauliflower. The crunch of the cauliflower with the spiciness was superb. Pizza. I think it was the Indian style bhakri pizza. This was the least favorite of the group. Ok. But far from the NY or Chicago pizzas out there. Not my speed. Naan, garlic and bullet. Both good. The table liked the garlic more. Cheese/Paneer butter masala, Malai Kofta was terrific! Great sauce. If my memory serves me correctly they had same sauce but I liked the cheese one better. So good. One of my favorites. Lemonade. Not the standard Minute Maid. Good. And last but not least we tried to continue our immersion into Indian food and decided to try Paan. And let's just say that I was not ready for what Paan was, nor were any of my co-workers. It comes in a leaf, and has some sort of nuts in the middle and is drizzled with some sort of sauce. I took a big chomp out of this and instantly knew I was in trouble. First off, I couldn't swallow it - it required a lot of chewing. Secondly, it was a hardcore rush of mint/soap taste unlike anything I'd ever tried before. Once I got it down the taste was overpowering and didn't seem to sit completely right in my stomach. And to be honest, I felt like I could still taste it 2 days later. In some ways I wonder if Paan was just so foreign to me that my body didn't do well with it. Or maybe I had tried too many things and Paan just set me over the edge. Or maybe I had some sort of allergic reaction (I'm allergic to a lot of things). In any case, for me, Paan is the only hard pass out of the whole buffet of food that we got. Also, a disclaimer. I am not one who likes spice. I do not seek it. But, when in Rome. To me there are different spices. There is spice that is just going to burn your mouth and you cannot taste it. I do not understand why people like this type of spice. Then there are ones that are more flavorful and generally less hot. All of the food I ate today was spicy and flavorful. The hottest one id say was the Gobi Manchurian but even as such it was still a good, tasty hot. Nothing that I reviewed above should be considered too weird for timid Americans who aren't sure about the menu - except the Paan. Beware of the Paan. Lol. This truly was a great experience and I'm glad I went with a group and was able to sample so many different things in one sitting instead of ordering one thing and hoping for the best never knowing what else on the menu would be better or worse. I would definitely like to come back here. This is a strong 5/5 for me. read more

The food was just ok. The Dahi poori had very thick yogurt and the chutneys were basic and not very tasty. The look of it was also not too professional. the Honest Thali was good but was a little overtly spiced. The Gulab Jamun size was rather tiny and for $20, not sure if this is worth it. Prices are on the higher side and food is pretty standard. They also need to serve in better cutlery and tableware. Right now, it is served in melamine plates which ruins the overall feel. read more

Wonderful new Indian vegetarian place has opened at Alma School and Ray. Beautiful design inside great spacious seating. Large family style table and more intimate small tables. I was just getting an order to go after reviewing their menu on line at home. As soon as a saw Chilli Garlic noodles I hopped in the car and made my way there. My order took a little over 15 minutes and it was well worth the wait! Delicious, savory and just the right amount of spices added to the experience. Very interesting to go box was sealed. They looked fairly busy and I could tell there was as some very pleased customers dining in. While I'm a big meat eater and have typically avoided any place with " vegetarian" in their name I can tell you I'll be back to try some other delicious Indian food. I'll take away one star since they only have a QR code menu and I don't fancy reading my phone at the table searching for what's available.
