Great spot to get brunch. Although there was a wait, it was well worth it. I went on a Saturday morning with a group of gal friends. Honey pie is in Bayview so we did a little shopping while we waited. The neighborhood is adorable with a ton of great brunch and dinner spots. We started off with coffee, bloodies, mimosas and water. The bloodies had three different flavors which I cannot remember. They had the perfect amount of spice! Next we all tried the cornbread muffins. These are made from scratch and served with jam and butter -- to die for. Then almost everyone at the table got the Breakfast Soufflé. Gravy, biscuit, egg, potatoes, and cheese all in a little soufflé bowl. My mouth started watering the moment I saw our waitress come out of the kitchen. It's very different but it sure is good. I would recommend it to anyone. I will definitely be back to this spot (perhaps for some homemade pie!) read more

Don't go there - they are no honest. Yet, the food was good. Coffee was okay, but only non-sugar sweetener was Sweet & Low (ugh!) We asked about taking some pie home, and waitress said pie slices were $8 each. We decided to get 4 pieces and were charged $32. What they didn't tell us was that a whole pie was $36-$39, not $64. A phone call to the cafe was useless. They told us they didn't sell 1/2 pies, only whole pies. We asked them why we were not told that? They said that was the waitress' fault. She is their employee, by the way. They refused to accommodate us in any way. Basically, it was too bad, so sad! Screw off! Went to Honeypie on a Friday night! Only about a 15 minute wait without a reservation (in our case at least - it didn't seem like there were any others ahead of us on the waitlist to be seated). My friends ordered the fish fry and they loved it (I definitely stole some bites)! The cornbread was delicious, the fish was cooked perfectly, and I'm not a tartar sauce person in the least, but theirs was actually really good! I had the mushroom sandwich which was absolutely delicious! We all ordered pie, and those were amazing as well. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars was because once we ordered our food it took awhile for them to bring it out, even the slices of pie! They said they were a little short staffed at the front and none of us were in a rush so we didn't mind waiting. It was worth it! read more

Honeypie does get a touch crowded at prime brunch time, especially if you have a larger group with you, but we had no trouble sidling up to the bar and sitting right down. The service, at least at the bar, was very quick, so brunchin' at the bar might be the smartest decision you'll make all day. Plus you'll have easy access to a bloody mary which comes with a wee little Rhinelander shortie. The food was definitely delicious and plentiful. I went with the breakfast pork fries which are almost too ridiculous to be real, but real they are and they were quite delicious. My companion went with a special veg. hash that looked pretty good and he joined the clean plate club, so I'll assume it was. We didn't try any of the pies, but I am intrigued by the ability to send them to friends via piegram. Hell, maybe I'll piegram myself from a secret admirer and impress my coworkers. Such. good. pie. After dining at Cafe Lulu, we brought another couple from out of town to enjoy the delicious baked goods at Honeypie. I was a bit nervous, as one of them is a very skilled baker who can be highly critical of baked delicacies. She loved the Milwaukee Mud Pie and took home a slice of the Honey Pie to try. I was equally in love with the Grasshopper Pie, and the husb also loved his MKE Mud Pie. We were in heaven. The waitstaff was also very nice. They didn't seem annoyed by the fact that we just got four slices of pie and a cup of coffee, which was much appreciated. It was nice to stop in and relax while enjoying pie and coffee. Ok, so if you've read a few of my reviews, you may notice a theme of me NOT liking places that have animal heads on the walls. I don't think they add anything to the dining experience, and I find them creepy as hell. For some reason my mom took me to a dentist as a small child that had enormous animal heads on the walls. Seriously. Like giant water buffalo heads. I was terrified. But, as is my wont, I digress. I do have a point in this ramble. I avoided going to Honeypie, despite the rave reviews, because they had...you guessed it...animal heads. Just...no. Fast forward a couple of years, we drove around looking for dinner after a hot, tiring day, I was just like fine, whatever, it's close by, I'll deal with it. I steeled myself for the dead, steely eyes staring into mine any time I raised my gaze from my plate...but lo and behold, the heads were gone!!!!! What followed was a thoroughly enjoyable dining experience. It was a bit warm inside on a hot evening, but fairly comfortable. The beer was not super cold, but by comparison with the warm room, it was perfect. Honeypie has a relaxed, Bayview-hipster vibe; the walls are old-school paneling, which seems to be prevalent in homes and businesses alike in Bayview. We sat at the bar (the bar stools have backs!), which appears to be made from old shuffleboard game wood coated in thick, high gloss resin. Very nice decorative touches throughout. There's a pretty nice bottled/canned beer selection; the six taps are mostly Ale Asylum. The food was slow to arrive, but we were enjoying the ambiance and conversation so it wasn't a huge issue. When the plates arrived they were quite hot, as though maybe they'd been sitting under the lights for awhile. They were moderately busy. Omg!!!! Duck Cubano. DUCK. CUBANO. Don't question it, just get it. You can thank me later. OMG. It's the best one I've ever had anywhere, and I get this sandwich a lot. Even the sweet 'n sour cucumber slices with skin on, the house made pickles, were incredibly delicious. Of course we had pie. I had the pecan, and it was fine. The pecans on top are whole and huge, which made it hard to take a balanced bite of pie. It was either all nut, or all not. We could barely move after leaving. I can't wait to go back. I had the burger without the egg on top. The burger was a large hand crafted patty, with caramelized onions, american cheese, and a special spicy mayo-based sauce. The bun was homemade and the perfect size and consistency to compliment the burger. The burger was good, but the fries were amazing. The good old fashioned type, but they were crispy, not limp. Unfortunately, the meal was too filling and I didn't have room for a piece of their famous pie. I'll have to come back and just have a salad so I have room for dessert! read more

I've never had to write a review before but my experience here made me feel like I had to warn future customers. Me and my partner went into the restaurant last weekend, we sat at the bar thinking we could get faster service but we were wrong. The bartender at the time was named Natalie and her attitude toward staff and other customers made us feel so uncomfortable. She was constantly on her phone behind the bar and had very inappropriate loud conversations with a co-worker. The bartender left the bar multiple times even when our drinks needed to be made, we overheard them yell at another staff member to stay at the bar while she took a 'vape break'. Then she came back and within the span of time we were seated, left 4 more times. We overheard her very loudly barking at other staff members and making them visibly uncomfortable. We left shortly after that happened and I've been debating if I should do a review but for the sake of management the co-workers and future customers. Please just ask for a different bartender or just go to a better restaurant. read more

I cannot say enough good things about Honeypie Café. In fact, I have only 2 complaints, which I'll list right off the bat. 1. I never got a refill on my coffee. 2. I managed to leave without taking slice of pie or cupcake with me. We were in Milwaukee for four and a half days last week, and this was the only breakfast/brunch we had outside of our work conference. We ran (read: walked) a 5k in the morning and after, decided we needed to treat ourselves to something delicious. Enter, Honeypie. The atmosphere is super cute. Very vintage, from the linoleum floors to the big '60s style wall clock, to the 1960's cookbooks. We were offered coffee and cocktails right away, I stuck with the coffee, G had a chipotle bloody (with chaser) and we ordered food right away. Food and beverages were served promptly, and piping hot. G had the Southern Gentleman: Chicken fried pork chop atop breakfast potatoes, smothered in sausage gravy, with two eggs and toast on the side. I've never seen the man clean a breakfast plate so well. As for me, the breakfast casserole caught my eye. It was served in a large ramekin (see photo) and consisted of the following gluttonous goodness: scratch-made biscuit, topped with breakfast potatoes, topped with mushrooms and sausage gravy, topped with cheddar, topped with a sunny-side egg. AH.MAH.GAH. Put this on the list for "if VW is ever in jail and has to choose a last meal." The only thing I'd change is to leave out the potatoes, as I prefer hash browns. I would definitely come back to Honeypie, maybe even just for dessert, because the MKE mud pie and red velvet and chai cupcakes caught my eye, and a week later I'm still thinking about them! read more

Came here on July 4 and it was packed. We decided to split a meal so we could have pie and it took around 30 minutes for order of a ham biscuit (it seemed a bit excessive). The biscuit was really good, it had cheese on it and the ham was delicious but cold in places. Prices here are a bit high: ham biscuit was $8 and a slice of pie was $7. It should have been 30 minute meal buy it was clearly over an hour due to waiting. Our waitress was busy and clearly flustered at times with the constant demand. Others around is also complained about the wait so either this was unusual or it was a lot of new patrons. read more

I miss the old location! This new space is cavernous, cold, and generic. Sadly, the food and service were also lackluster. My partner and I split the kale salad and the bolognese. The salad was decent (although a bit one-note), but the pasta was just sad. A bland bowl of mush (imagine the polar opposite of al dente). I salted it generously to perk up the flavor, but no luck. Our daughter had the chicken biscuit pot pie: meh. The server was friendly but forgetful and scattered. Repeatedly forgot who ordered which dish. We ordered a coffee to go at the end of the meal, but he completely spaced it. Didn't have dessert--hopefully the pie is still delicious. I don't think we'll be back. I probably wouldn't have rated this place as high, but after an absolutely amazing brunch on Saturday morning I have no choice. I've been wanting to go here for a while now, being that this is the sister restaurant to Comet and of course I have loved Comet for a long time now. We walked into a wait for lunch, and the hostess/waitress/busgirl told us it would be about 20 minutes. It ended up being 15. Props to the hostess for not pressuring people to leave, but as soon as they did , getting the table clean and getting people a table ASAP. Between her and our server Chris, the service was top notch. Another reason for the high rating is the incredible beer list here. Honestly, I go into a restaurant and I'm happy if they have 10-20 different craft beer choices, but this place has a full page of pure craft beer choices. Whoever made this list knows their stuff, as I liked/wanted to try most of this list. Any place that serves Great Lakes Edmund Fitzgerald is awesome in my book. The food was awesome as well. I ordered the breakfast pork fries without fully reading the reviews for this place and not fully knowing what I was getting into. Why is so bad for you so good? I'm sure when I'm on my deathbed, breathing my last breath (my life undoubtedly cut a few days short by eating too many plates of breakfast pork fries), various points of my life will flash by and in between my baby girl being born and my baby girl getting married, I'll fondly remember taking that first bite into that mix of BBQ shredded pork, cheese and breakfast potatoes. The sunny side up egg on top is the perfect touch. I inhaled this plate quick. My wife was hoping for some more vegetarian options, but considering the emphasis on local here and it being the dead of winter, understandably there wasn't much in the way of veggie plates. My wife ended up going with the breakfast burrito. I had a good chunk of this burrito since she couldn't finish it, and it was good but not as good as the breakfast burrito from Comet. The Andouille sausage inside was very good. If you have young kids, don't feel like you can't stop in. They were more than accommodating to our one and a half year old and had high chairs and booster seats. There definitely isn't a kids menu here, but my kid was happy with a couple different side dishes and other parents there that day were doing the same. Even though I was stuffed, I couldn't pass up on dessert. I wanted the Salted Brownie Pie that I had at Comet and feature here sometimes, but they didn't have it. That's not to say there wasn't any other choices. As the guy rattled off a dessert list longer than War and Peace, I stopped him and opted for the Caramel Apple Bourbon Pie. We were told this place was a brunch hot spot and we must go. So happy we made it here on our last morning in Milwaukee! It was at least a 30 min wait, but we went shopping in some nearby stores to kill the time. On our way to be seated we noticed all the desserts in the glass case, beware! I knew right away I wanted to order the pork fries with BBQ pulled pork and a beermosa. It just all sounded good. I didn't realize it was going to be larger than my face when it arrived! I assume they want everyone to also have a slice of pie with their meal, so the giant portion was boggling. I hope you do not think this is me complaining! I am still going to order white chocolate pistachio pie and take leftovers of both for round 2! Brunch was a spectacular mix of flavors, even though pork is never my prime choice of protein. Two of my friends swore by the chicken biscuit pie as well. I also sampled the chocolate cupcake with real strawberry frosting. This is my go-to joint in my hood. You can always find a decent vegan meal here, as well as a delicious craft beer or a tasty cocktail. The atmosphere is casual kitchy, and they have a lovely patio that's open in the summer. They also have Trivial Pursuit questions at every table, which I love. I insist on playing every time I go!! Even though I'm terrible! But really, the food is what's important Let's break it down: Brunch - your options are 1) subbing tofu for eggs in the farm scramble, adding some veg sausage and vegetables 2) veganize the breakfast burrito (ask for extra green sauce), 3) fruit bowl, and I think they have a couple of sandwich options (vegan pork slaw). All of these options are quality! The burrito is basically the scramble tucked into a tortilla, plus some black beans. Both come with some of the best homefries I've ever had. The fruit bowl is full of good stuff, no fillers! Lunch - I love their lunches -the vegan Klug is filled with Upton's faux meat, house made pickles, and jalapenos; the vegan burger is tasty (and I believe is the same "meat" they use in my fave ever Comet dish the vegan Salisbury steak); the vegan pork slaw is BBQ sauce-covered seitan topped with a fabulous celery root slaw. The texture of the seitan is a little off. I wish they used a different brand or recipe, but the rest of the sammie is on point. Their fries are as good as their homefries (no surprise there). The also have a daily vegan pasty (seasonal veggie and tofu/sausage/seitan wrapped in flaky dough), that's been delish in every version I've tried. Dinner - this is the only place Honeypie really falls short. They really don't have a single vegan entree. Your choices are the same as lunch. That's too bad, because I bet they could really make something great if they tried. But then I'd probably be eating there twice a week instead of just once, and they're probably tired of me anyway. Dessert: they usually have at least two vegan cupcake options, and 2-3 vegan fruit pies. The cupcakes are large and have a healthy dose of frosting and are delicious. After recommendations from two different Milwaukee natives, ended up here on a Sunday for a later lunch, but apparently it was still "Brunch." I'm not a big breakfast fan so my choices were limited. Ended up getting the Pork Fries(minus the fried egg) and they were delicious - very flavorful and the potatoes were still crisp even with all of the meat and cheese sauce smothered on top! My friend got the burger which was also full of flavor and super juicy the way a burger should be. I ordered the Bloody Mary - wasn't too impressed (especially since I had one earlier that day at the Pfister hotel) but really enjoyed the beer chaser that went along with it. Small place - wait wasn't too long but we only have a party of 2. Larger parties were waiting 20 minutes plus. Service wasn't impressive. We sat the bar and our waitress/bartender was blah not extremely friendly or interested in serving us so it seemed. In a cute neighborhood area. We went here for an impromptu dinner on a Thursday and snagged a table outside on the patio during one of the last warm days of September. I wish their sound system had been working because no music was playing and it was a bit odd/quiet. I guess- what I would recommend would be to go here for brunch vs. dinner. I had to bump up my review for Honeypie because I enjoyed my last visit for brunch. Despite the weird hiccup of waiting for a long time to get on the host's list, everything else went just fine. We were seated at a nice table on their patio and service was good. I enjoyed my bloody Mary, the granola and yogurt with fresh fruit and the BBQ pork fries. Speaking of the pork fries, Pamela M. is right on in her photo caption - this thing will last you like 3 more meals! We were on a wait list to get in for Saturday lunch, so we popped next door to Luv Unlimited for a few minutes to amuse ourselves. We were just coming back to the front door of Honeypie when the hostess popped out and said "Oh, you're Johanna, right? I was just looking for you! Your table is ready. I didn't want you to miss the call!" So nice of her to check outside! The only reason I don't give 5 stars is that it's always so busy and there's really not a lot of great places to wait, especially in winter (as others have said). This place actually varies between a 2-star place when it's crowded and busy (which is often) and a 4 star place during off peak, especially for breakfast or coffee and pie. They use local produce and meat, good, and usually have fresh robust coffee ready. When it's busy, service is poor, which would be understandable if they only rarely got busy. Also, the space is just too tight to have lots of people waiting near and around tables. When the crowd thins out, mid morning, mid afternoon, on weekdays, this is an excellent place for a high cholesterol egg breakfast, and, or, and (usually and in my case), coffee and pie. As for the lunch and dinner options, I've not been impressed except for the burger, but I have noticed that the entree quality also varies, they get careless with the quality consistency when it's packed, but there's good attention to details off-peak. read more

Went to visit Honeypie for Sunday brunch. My wife has visited there several times before with friends and once with our daughter and fiancé. So when she suggested it for brunch I was all for it. The Cafe is clean and well maintained. The health score here reflects that with a perfect score. Sanitation is just as important, if not more, than other points you can make of the place. We were seated in the least desired table located at the front by the countertop seating with no view of the main dining area. I didn't mind it as it was very busy. It was loud and bustling due to our location. I order the short rib hash. There was no pancakes on the menu which going to be my original choice, but the hash was excellent. I added a corn pepper relish to it from my son's breakfast burrito he did not want. The relish should be part of the order it was fresh and tasty. This place like many others today I would need ol to order toast ala carte, which I thought is a bad trend. Toast is almost a necessity with egg dishes like the hash. We order some pie slices to go, so I won't comment on them today. read more

Every time my cat Targus and I come here we have to have some French fries. Always best to choose a sandwich or dinner option that offers French fries. If you can't find something that includes them it would behoove you to get a side order. I personally always get the grilled cheese bc it comes with tomato soup and fries. Double sides!?! Jack. Pot. I really enjoyed my first (can you believe that? I know,,,) visit to Honeypie. I met an old co worker here for dinner and honestly, Honeypie really exceeded my expectations. First, I love the interior - it reminds me a little of sister restaurant Comet and a little of Odd Duck. Lots of warm wood, reclaimed stuff and vintage. A lot of reviews complain about iffy service but I really lucked out here. Everyone I encountered (bartender, host, server) was genuinely friendly - no hipster attitude. I can see where it could be an issue once things get busy as this place is teeny-tiny. There were a lot of things on the menu and specials list that looked really good but based on our waiter's recommend I ended up picking the mac'n'cheese. It was definitely above average but could have used more sauce IMO - it was kind of "dry". That said, I loved the addition of crispy bacon - not too much but enough to add some extra flavor. I'd order it again. My friend got the BBQ chicken which she liked a lot. We also sampled one of their corn muffins - amazing. I know "carbs are the Devil", but I'd really be tempted to get a bunch of these to go and scarf them all down in secret. Drinks wise - they have a ginormous beer list with all kinds of crafty beers for the local hipster kids. There's a decent wine list and a few specialty cocktails too. Overall, price points (food and drink) were quite reasonable considering the overall quality. So happy to be living near this Bay View gem. I love the feeling I get when I walk into this restaurant. Sturdy wooden tables to sit at inside, and a gorgeous patio in the back. It's a shaded patio, so it should be your favorite spot mid summer, but you also might need a sweater in the springtime. I went here for brunch today. Their tap list was a collaboration of various wisconsin beers (most of which I hadn't heard of---- very nice!) I got the Tokyo Sauna Pale Ale and it was really good. For breakfast I got the breakfast casserole. I would totally recommend it. The biscuit/gravy/fried egg/cheese combo is hard to beat!! I got it at the recommendation of our wonderful waitress. We went back. Yes, its true. We took a friend from out of town to Honeypie for dinner. I ate duck. He ate meatloaf. Both were really good. The bread. Oh. Lord. The bread. We ordered pies for a graduation party we are having at our house - when discussing the event with my grandmother she said, "I was thinking of getting a cake." Driving along KK in Bayview we stopped at Honeypie for an improntu dinner. The decor is definitely 'up north' style and very unique. After being tempted by a gargantuan burger called the Local Yokel (it has to be at least 2,000 calories with Lettuce, BBQ Pork, Burger, bacon, Swiss Cheese, carmelized onions, mushrooms, beer-battered jalepeno sticks, Ranch dressing, sunny side up egg, a bun and a breakfast sausage garnish) that was part of a month long promotion with a radio station I settled on their pork slaw sandwich while the PIC selected a cheddar/tomato/spinach/olive oil toasted cheese sandwich--both served with an order of fries....WOW! Both were fantastic. My mouth is watering at the thought of these right now. Service was very good and very helpful in answering menu related questions. We'll be back again...and this time with intentions of stopping at Honeypie. read more

We live here in Bay View but this was the first time we have tried Honey Pie. From the reviews my friends were giving me I thought this was just a BBQ place. It's not. It reminds me of Bunkers in West Allis. The decor is kitchy. I think the fish mounted on the wall needs a dusting! The menu really overpriced. The cheese plate for $12.95 had two cheeses and a hunk of bread, a honey and pecan spread, and some sour pickles. I originally was going for the ribs as an entree' but was told they were out. I then decided on the special scallops over grits made with corn and bacon. Even though it was a special, it wasn't a special price $18.00!. The flavors were really good but again I thought it to be way overpriced. My hubby decided to have the Pulled Pork sandwich. It came on a huge bun. (Hubby liked it but is partial to the Smokey Robinson at Horny Goat) My little on ordered the Mac and cheese. It had a bit of a kick to it and she wouldn't eat it. I am convinced it was a pinch of cayenne. The waitress was friendly and replaced it with a hamburger. We brought home three cupcakes. Luckily one of my children wasn't with us. For the three of us, our bill was $70.00. The price is the only thing that may not make me come back. Not very economical. read more

There's plenty of side street parking , don't let the main road scare you away . In nice weather the patio in back is open which allows for more seating and no wait time . They open at 9 on Saturday for brunch! The food was great , only bad thing I have to say about it is the flavor . I'm not saying I didn't like the flavor in general , I'm just saying with some more spice it would give the food that extra kick it's lacking . Up the spice game and this place would be out of this world good :) Freshness 10:10 . The honey pie is good. I ordered the pulled pork fries and they were good it was a huge portion. The mimosa comes in a 12-16 oz cup. It'll get you buzzed. The sandwich my husband ordered was good as well. The waitstaff is both friendly and helpful. The place was clean and cute. Def recommend for a quick bite with a friend. read more

Finally made it into Honeypie the other day and I was SO impressed!! The inside of the restaurant definitely carries a hipster ambiance with old trivia pursuit cards at all the tables. It's a seat yourself place- which took a little while for the server to realize we were sitting there. However she totally made up for it with great service and good menu suggestions. I had the Honeypie Pasty which was unlike anything I ever had but it had a ton of flavor bursting from a flaky pie dough crust. Also had truffle fries on the side which were TDF. We finished the meal splitting a piece of banana cream pie which was amazing- which more notably the sweet and crunchy crust. Would definitely recommend and will definitely return. read more
