Oh my gosh. I love Honey's breakfast!! This place is packed on the weekends, but we've always managed to find a small table in the back corner. You really can't go wrong with your order here, but I'm a big fan of the granola waffles, which make you fell a little better about eating sugar filled items for breakfast because granola, right? I've been to Honey's twice now, once with a group of co-workers, & once with my friend. The first time I was there I ordered the Feta/Spinach Turkey Burger which sounded amazing, but unfortunately was way WAY over salty. Today I ordered an acai bowl which was OK... it's just that my bowl was sort of sloppy and there were way too many seeds. Also, they advertised a special "kale" salad but were out of kale. Meh. What a great, cozy and fun place that seems to be a favorite of the local crowd in Encinitas. This place is busy with their breakfast line usually almost out the door and continues that way most of the morning. But I understand it, because this place is pretty good. Regular breakfast items from eggs, pancakes, waffles, breakfast pastries and muffins are all available. Gourmet coffees are done pretty well behind the counter and a very wide variety of regular coffees line self-serving thermoses along the entire wall for customers to choose from. Instead I receive perfectly poached eggs, slathered in rich hollandaise sauce, with home fries lightly salted and thickly crispy on one side and slightly crispy throughout. I have a latte perfectly served in a large cup , as I sit at a table with a friend on a quiet Sunday afternoon. After a slow drive down the coast, I am in heaven. Parking can be quite difficult to find even on a wkday. We stopped by here on our way to the beach on a Friday morning. The place was packed. There was a long line waiting to place an order which gave us enough time to decide what we wanted to eat. The place was full but by the time we ordered we had a choice of a couple of tables. We had a delicious omelet breakfast and french toast with fresh strawberries. They also had a wall lined with different types of flavored coffees. The purchase of a coffee gives you free refills to any flavor you want. The food is delicious and the service is just as good. read more

I really wish I could give Honey's a higher score because their food is FANTASTIC, but the setup is such a hassle, it's enough to bump them down to 3 stars. First the hassles. One, it is in downtown Encinitas, and unless you are here very early, be prepared to park and walk. This is not their fault, they aren't losing any stars for this, just be aware. They are also very popular, so combined with their small space, it can be very difficult to find a seat if they are busy. The worst part is the layout. The self serve coffee bar is right up next to where you wait in line. While I like the idea, you have to duck in and out of people to make your cup of joe or tea. While it seems they have a spot to grab a menu, I have never seen any in the designated area. Not that it would matter, because most of their specialty items are on a board, which is way up next to the cash register. It does me no good to look at a menu when it is my turn. They need to relocate it towards the back or on the opposite wall so people can read WHILE they wait in line, not when they are at the end of it. Now the good part, the food! They have many specialty hashes and benedicts that I have yet to see elsewhere. My favorite is the steak hash. Lots of flavorful meat paired with potatoes, 2 eggs and toast. I have also tried some of their sweet items, like the strawberry banana pancakes or their muffins, both delicious. Their food has never disappointed. Despite the challenges Honey's small space presents, we will continue to come back because my stomach tells me to just deal with it! read more

Honey's is one of my favorite Encinitas breakfast places. They have a healthier, more interesting selection than many of the other downtown breakfast joints. I like the acai bowl, the granola pancakes, and the muffins. Don't worry though, they can still deliver a good omelet and toast. The green omelet is a good one, but they forgot the avocado last time I ordered it. Honey's also has a large selection of daily specials, though special may be a misnomer since some of them make fairly regular appearances. The prices aren't dirt cheap, but they're not outrageous either. The outdoor seating is relaxed and comfortable, but the indoor seating is a little bit dark for my taste. The outdoor tables are dog friendly, and are great especially on weekend mornings, when you can watch all the people going by on 101. It gets a little crowded on the weekends, but the wait usually looks more daunting than it really is. Parking is on-street, but it's downtown Encinitas, so the worst case scenario is that you have to park 2 blocks away. In response to the complaints about morning seating, the best thing to do is not to get a table until you've placed your order. /Begin rant/ It may be tempting to have someone save a table while you wait in line to order, but this creates a social trap. If some people take tables before ordering, the tables are unavailable for the people who's food is ready. On subsequent visits, people will take tables before ordering so they are not again without a table when their food comes. This only compounds the problem by further reducing the tables' rate of turnover. In short, If everyone gets the table only when they need it, there will be more tables available. /End rant/ Wow, that's one wordy review! read more

Come to Honey's, and you definitely get your money's worth! My friend and I ordered an acai bowl (which we've heard great reviews about), and two sandwiches. The acai bowl was ginormous!! It was filled with homemade granola along the bottom of the bowl as well as sprinkled on the top (almost seemed as if the bowl was soaked in granola), along with blueberries, raspberries, boysenberries, bananas, strawberries, local fresh bee pollen and coconut flakes on top. This was by far the largest acai bowl I've ever gotten! However, the consistency of the acai seemed a bit overly thick and "slimy." I was a bit disappointed, as the slimy texture made me constantly thirsty, and did not seem to satisfy as it went down my throat. But this didn't seem to be the case for previous customers, so perhaps it was merely this one instance. The sandwiches came with a side (i.e., fruit bowl, pasta salad, etc.) and were given at good sized portions, enough to fill you. The wait wasn't unbearable, but I was so hungry I wanted to just push everyone out of the way so I could get to the cashier already. The people there are friendly and the place just feels so homely. Definitely a cute cafe to eat with friends and family! Food: I ordered the ensenada scramble and wow! There was just the right amount of everything in it. The chorizo was juicy and tasty and the egg was cooked right. I usually don't like egg much either, but mmm, so tasty! The salsa, guacamole and sour cream on top just added to the perfection of it. And the potatoes! Oh, the potatoes. You have an option of choosing between fruits or potatoes. I'm a potato lover, and yes, have a potato quota for the week. You cannot go wrong with these potatoes. Add a dash of tapatio sauce and you're set. Bottom line: This is now on of my favorite breakfast places to go. I just wish it were closer to me. Went here recently with a friend who recommended it. Large menu, with some more unusual items. Friendly service. However, the table & the condiment containers on the table were dirty. Asked someone to clean up, which they sort of did. It was mid-morning on a weekday, but it was loud inside - not exactly the ambience I'd hoped for. It was difficult to hear my friend across the table! I got the orange slice and strawberry pancakes, which looked good, but were pretty dry (thus needing more syrup than I'd like to use) - and I crunched down on a few orange seeds (won't order that again). May I just say that I love Encinitas. Coming from San Francisco, this little Santa Cruzian-esque town got me feeling all warm and fuzzy. Gorgeous sun, sand and surf! Honey's was a a great munch on the move through this awesome town. My boyfriend and I posted up inside this little dive, and were finally began to function on vacation mode. I had the Healthy Salad, but had to douse it in bleu cheese. Health conscious eating is a no-no... I'm on vacation remember! This is a small eatery that serves casual dining style. You order at the counter first, then take your number to a table. The staff with bring you your order when it is ready. I had the lobster eggs benedict. It came with two perfectly poached eggs set on top of english muffins and shredded bits of langostino lobster and drenched in hollandaise sauce. The hollandaise sauce was creamy, a little salty and savory, simply perfect. Unfortunately, the sauce also drowned out any flavor from the shredded lobster. My eggs benedict came with fresh fruit. Melon, strawberries, blueberries, and apple delicately sliced and presented in a spectacularly beautiful manner. This was one of the nicest breakfasts I ever had. read more

Three employees were standing behind the counter talking. They looked at us then went back to their conversation. Very disappointed. Would think the owner of Swami's would maintain a standard of quality here. We were wrong. The chilaquiles benedict--all the tortilla chips were soggy and muddied. My wife's corned beef hash benedict was even more soggy and tasteless. Both plates were ordered with fruit, which was unripe and tasted like cardboard. The only available table was constantly bumped by passers-by. The ONLY redeeming part of breakfast was my wife's hazelnut latte, which was delicious.
