    Egg Custard Tart (Daan Tat)
    Robyn F.

I was looking for some delicious Chinese pastries and found this bakery while visiting Mountain View. I love mochi with fresh fruit and they offer a fresh mango mochi. So that is initially what drew me to this spot. I was greeted warmly by the woman working in the shop. I'm pretty sure she is the owner. I took some time to review the menu on the wall, customer favorites list and looking in the display case. I wanted to try a various assortment of items as this was my first visit. I chose to order the beef curry tart, baked pineapple bun, egg custard tart, lemon slice cake and fresh mango mochi. Wow, truly this is a gem of a bakery. The pineapple bun was fluffy, airy, fresh and oh so delicious. Mine didn't have a filling but the bun was so fresh I didn't care. The beef curry tart was a nice savory item. As it is wrapped in puff pastry it was on the dry side. I might skip this next time. The egg tart was fresh and had a rich custard filling. It could rival any other China town bakery. The lemon slice cake was really a treat. The filling was sweet & tart just as it should be. The slice wasn't too sweet, the ultimate compliment. The star for me was the fresh mango mochi!! The mochi wrapped fresh mango and had a coconut dusting. The mochi was super soft and chewy and absolutely fresh. I could eat the mochi on its own it was so delicious. I would make a special trip any time in the area for just the mango mochi. Please note they only accept CASH payment. The bakery is a small shop and it is definitely an order to-go situation. Based on the size of the bakery it is amazing the amount of items offered. While ringing up my order the woman made sure to inform me how long each pastry would last for, how to store it, and the best way to eat it (ex: warm in microwave or toaster oven). I thought that showed how much love is put into the pastries. She truly wanted to make sure it was enjoy in the best possible way. If you're ever near this bakery definitely stop in. I visited in the morning but the street it is located on seemed to have plenty of restaurants and other shops nearby to visit. Street parking was available and there was also a free public parking garage only a short walk away.

My dad used to always get me the beef curry puffs. Super buttery layers of crumbly pastry, and a rich sweet curry filling.

This is a cash only bakery I stumbled upon while walking in downtown mountain view. It's a grab and go, no frills bakery with hong kong baked goods - both sweet and savory. We decided to get the pineapple bun, ube bun, and coconut bread. All were very good and reasonably priced. Owner is also sweet and friendly. Would come again!

    Lemon roll!!!
    Sarah L.

Friendly service and so far the closest place that sells lemon roll! One of my favorite desserts from childhood. So good. Would love if the lemon roll was sold in a whole roll instead of teeny slices :) Not many places sell lemon roll anymore so I was ecstatic to find it. The bakery is conveniently located and there wasn't a long line when we went in the afternoon.

    Red Bean Bun

CASH ONLY! Authentic Chinese baking. Buns generally range from $4-6 each as of June 2026. Owner is kind, speaks Cantonese and some English (enough to tell you which buns to heat up for best taste). Highly recommend as someone who grew up eating HK foods

Will be back to finish nnnnmmmm This is an old fashioned Hong Kong style bakery . The owner lady on the front desk is 80 plus years old . Their bakery is very organized with many products. I am amazed at how skillful the baker is ( He is the lady s husband ) . To be continue

Mango mochi and cha siu bao

[Cash only, so bring some cash before you order and tip.] I peeked into Hong Kong Bakery and Café on my way to Maison Alyzée next door and made a note to go back here and get something for lunch. The bakery is definitely a hole-in-the-wall establishment, but when their sign up front proclaims their cha siu bao and homemade mango mochi as some of their most sought-after items, I thought, why not take a look. The lady greeted me as I walked in, and she went to the back to tend to the kitchen when I told her I needed more time to think about what I wanted to eat. The bakery is cozy, and there's a variety of things on the menu from bao to little cakes to egg tarts. After a bit, the lady came back to the register when I indicated that I was ready. I got a cha siu bao and three mango mochi. As the lady rang me up on the register, we made small talk. "I like to get to know my customers," she told me. Very endearing, very homelike. I felt like I was at my grandma's house again as I watched the lady heat the bao in the toaster oven. She bagged the warmed bao, boxed the mochi, and handed everything to me. "Enjoy!" The cha siu bao had been steamed with care. It was fluffy and the cha siu was tender but on the sweeter side. The mango mochi was fresh, chewy, and fascinating. Instead of sweet, ripe mango like the kind you might find at Hui Lau Shan, this mochi had tart green mango to contrast with the sweet rice mochi and coconut flakes. Not too sweet! From the aesthetic to the food to the service, everything about the bakery said family-run business. If you're looking for a slice of home in Chinese baked goods and desserts, you're sure to find it at Hong Kong Bakery and Café.

    Egg tart

It's great to see a mom and pop shop still holding it down in downtown Mountain View, where I imagine rent is sky high. A kind older woman helped us. I tried the egg tart. Not the best I've had, but satisfies the craving. Cash only. Support this local business!

Baked Pork Bun, Gai Mei Bao, Egg Tarts, and Sesame Balls
    Samantha L.

I love this bakery! I've been coming here for years! My favorites to get are the Gai Mei Baos, Chasu Baos bakes, Egg Tarts, and Sesame Balls! Bring cash and don't forget to order a lot because you will want one everyday!

BBQ pork buns and pineapple buns
    Mila N.

CASH only. BBQ pork bun was $6.50 each, Egg tart was $4.50 each, and pineapple bun $3.50 each. Her bakery buns were ordinary like any Chinatown bakery. Nothing fancy, but overpriced 3x. To be nice, I bought only 2 bbq buns and pineapple buns just to help this lady. This was a rip off! Average most expensive is usually $2.50 or $3 each BBQ pork buns, $2.50 or $3 for very good freshly baked egg tarts in SF.

How much id the Baked BBQ pork buns? Do they offer Baked BBQ chicken buns? Can I pay with credit card or is it cash only? Thx :)

I think they are $6 each (quite large though), cash only

Is it closed permanently? I went by today at 5 pm and everything was dark and the glass cases where the baked goods would normally be were covered up

No they are still open. The very nice bakery owner told me today that they are guaranteed to be open from 8:30am to 12:30pm every day, including the weekends. Hours in the afternoon may vary because they need to take care of other stuff.

Location is closed w/ no return time?

Their sign said they were closed one day so I just called them and asked and they turned out to be open

Is this business no longer around? Appears to be closed :((

They are still open..came in Saturday around noon and bought there world famous baked pork buns!!

Fun fact: Alyzée" is the name of the owner's daughter. It boasts marble counters, bistro-style tables, and outdoor seating on Castro Street to mimic the South of France. The owner recruited pastry chefs who relocated from France specifically for this endeavor. They also have monthly flavor, for example for May 2026: "Strawberry Bliss" cake. I totally recommend: mixed berry tart, coffee eclairs. They have rotating seasonal items and also accept ordering larger cakes through online orders or by calling in! Their 100% pistachio cake is amazing - not too sweet and the pistachio flavor really comes through but doesn't overpower. Very creamy texture that isn't too heavy and has a fun, crunchy outer shell. The matcha raspberry is also nice and balanced - matcha flavor complements well with the raspberry gel / jam inside and is mellowed out by the cream. Inside is very chic and great place to chat and catch up over a cup of coffee and even get some work done - water station and wifi is inside.

Overall solid fresh food (pricey but I guess normal for the area), knocked off a star for coffee being very average and service being less enthusiastic or friendly than I expected. AMBIANCE We came down for breakfast in the early morning to grab a quick hot breakfast and coffee and it was easy enough to get to and solid hours for the working folks. Fairly quiet spot and just the usual buzz of folks taking calls or having chit chat with coffee. It's right inside the Shashi Hotel and has a clean minimalist feel. There's indoor seating (about 3-4 tables) within the cafe but most folks just found a spot within the hotel dining area with more booths and long tables for coworking, and tables by the fireside, or outside by the pool. It's pretty comfortable spot to work in though some of the floor charging ports were often a trip hazard! SERVICE You order at the counter...(and can't say the folks taking the order didn't seem particularly enthusiastic working there but otherwise we got what we ordered and all substitution requests were honored), take a numbered placard, and sit down wherever you want. We dined in but you can obviously get to-go. In 10-15 minutes or so, the staff bring your food out to the table, which is pretty efficient and keeps things casual. Food was prepared quickly, arrived hot and well-presented, and they bring you silverware -- which is ideal if you're trying to grab breakfast before meetings or a flight! The overall atmosphere is calm and polished "urban resort lobby café" than crowded street coffee shop, which fits well if you're staying at the hotel or meeting colleagues nearby. FOOD The breakfast menu leans toward elevated kind of price-y but limited. There's only 4 main breakfast items (if you're not a pastry person in the morning). As an aside, the pastries in the case also didn't look super fresh. While limited in menu, everything we tried tasted fresh and was pretty solid -- a bit pricey but hey for the speed and fresh, healthy feel it was fine. The avocado toast came on hearty sourdough with scrambled eggs and bright toppings (loved the edamame in the salad), making it feel more like a full meal. The pork sausage breakfast bowl was solid too with scrambled eggs, potatoes, spinach, cheddar, avocado, salsa, and a touch of habanero heat that made it comforting but still interesting. The fruit and yogurt bowl balanced things out nicely with Greek yogurt, fresh fruit, granola, and honey, so you can go lighter if you don't want something heavy first thing in the morning! Would recommend this or the avocado toast if you're looking for something lighter but want to get the greens in.
