I bought two hot dog buns ($4? each) today (07/26/26) along with some other baked goods for my family. There's black mold growing on the bottoms of both hot dog buns. They were in stored in individual closed plastic bags in a refrigerated case at the store, but I don't know how long they could have been there to get mold this bad. The nice old man at the counter packaged them for me so I did not get to look at them until I got home and was putting the baked goods away. My husband loves hot dog buns and we haven't seen them in a lot of Chinese bakeries recently so I got them for him. They went straight in the trash. I am so disappointed. read more

I was looking for some delicious Chinese pastries and found this bakery while visiting Mountain View. I love mochi with fresh fruit and they offer a fresh mango mochi. So that is initially what drew me to this spot. I was greeted warmly by the woman working in the shop. I'm pretty sure she is the owner. I took some time to review the menu on the wall, customer favorites list and looking in the display case. I wanted to try a various assortment of items as this was my first visit. I chose to order the beef curry tart, baked pineapple bun, egg custard tart, lemon slice cake and fresh mango mochi. Wow, truly this is a gem of a bakery. The pineapple bun was fluffy, airy, fresh and oh so delicious. Mine didn't have a filling but the bun was so fresh I didn't care. The beef curry tart was a nice savory item. As it is wrapped in puff pastry it was on the dry side. I might skip this next time. The egg tart was fresh and had a rich custard filling. It could rival any other China town bakery. The lemon slice cake was really a treat. The filling was sweet & tart just as it should be. The slice wasn't too sweet, the ultimate compliment. The star for me was the fresh mango mochi!! The mochi wrapped fresh mango and had a coconut dusting. The mochi was super soft and chewy and absolutely fresh. I could eat the mochi on its own it was so delicious. I would make a special trip any time in the area for just the mango mochi. Please note they only accept CASH payment. The bakery is a small shop and it is definitely an order to-go situation. Based on the size of the bakery it is amazing the amount of items offered. While ringing up my order the woman made sure to inform me how long each pastry would last for, how to store it, and the best way to eat it (ex: warm in microwave or toaster oven). I thought that showed how much love is put into the pastries. She truly wanted to make sure it was enjoy in the best possible way. If you're ever near this bakery definitely stop in. I visited in the morning but the street it is located on seemed to have plenty of restaurants and other shops nearby to visit. Street parking was available and there was also a free public parking garage only a short walk away. read more

I came here on weekend afternoon after seeing this while I was walking by. I really enjoy trying various cantonese bakeries, so I stopped by Hong Kong Bakery and Cafe. The bakery here only takes cash and the owner was very kind when I chatted with him. He told me he used to have multiple Hong Kong Bakeries in the south bay, but now there is only 1 and this is the one in mountain view. I got a variety of items to try - the wife pastry, egg tart, mango mochi, white sugar honeycomb cake and the banana mochi. The wife pastry, egg tart and white sugar honeycomb cake was good, nothing special. However, the mango mochi was the highlight - I would come back just for that. There was fresh mango in the mochi with the nice mochi around it. Highly recommend. Their banana mochi is also good, no banana slices in it, but has good banana flavor. I have been going to this spot for over 20 years when I used to live in Mt View. It has been here so long that I remember when the egg tarts were just $0.75 each, yeah that long ago. This is the best version of Chinese baked goods this side of San Francisco's China Town. Its beyond authentic, it is the REAL deal. The owners have had this place for so long. They came here from China Town SF, and the quality shows. The owners don't speak much English but they are friendly and nice. Service is great and they are helpful. The ambience is basic "Chinese store"; a bit chaotic and busy with lots going on, but in a cool way. My favorites are the egg tarts and the steamed white rice cakes. Both are difficult the get "right". They do it right. The prices are higher but the quality did NOT change one bit. It is cash only, which is a standard way that Chinese do business. Pretty much everything is good here, but I HIGHLY recommend the egg tarts. They only make so many each day so come early or face disappointment if they run out. If you crave real Chines baked goods (Not Japanese or Vietnamese versions), then this place will become your guilty pleasure. read more

I recently stopped by Hong Kong Bakery to pick up a few for her and was shocked to see they were selling for $4.50 apiece. Even after driving to Mountain View specifically to get them, I simply couldn't bring myself to buy them on principle. The lady greeted me as I walked in, and she went to the back to tend to the kitchen when I told her I needed more time to think about what I wanted to eat. The bakery is cozy, and there's a variety of things on the menu from bao to little cakes to egg tarts. After a bit, the lady came back to the register when I indicated that I was ready. I got a cha siu bao and three mango mochi. As the lady rang me up on the register, we made small talk. "I like to get to know my customers," she told me. Very endearing, very homelike. I felt like I was at my grandma's house again as I watched the lady heat the bao in the toaster oven. She bagged the warmed bao, boxed the mochi, and handed everything to me. "Enjoy!" The cha siu bao had been steamed with care. It was fluffy and the cha siu was tender but on the sweeter side. The mango mochi was fresh, chewy, and fascinating. Instead of sweet, ripe mango like the kind you might find at Hui Lau Shan, this mochi had tart green mango to contrast with the sweet rice mochi and coconut flakes. Not too sweet! From the aesthetic to the food to the service, everything about the bakery said family-run business. Yelp 2 stars = "could've been better" I grew up in Mountain view, and I remembered the small hole in the wall one aisle bakery. The only thing I really knew and enjoyed was the Baked BBQ pork buns. I rarely buy the other items, unless friends know I'm going and they have a request. So I can honestly say I have been there from decades ago. In fact, I think they were one of many Chinese businesses in downtown Mountain View, which added to the reputation of being known as the most concentration of Chinese restaurants, aside from San Francisco Chinatown. Occasionally throughout the year, I really crave a Baked BBQ pork bun and I will ask in the yelp community as well as friends and if any new bakeries (not dim sum restaurants bc it's more pricey) Normally, I like to go to San Francisco to get my Baked BBQ pork buns, but I just crave a bun right now. Iykyk :) THE VISIT: Came in on a Saturday. Nothing much has changed. The bakery was simple and customer service minimal. Somewhat the look of a storage room as I find most good hole in the wall Chinese bakeries look like. Oh the older Asian woman kept saying... $6.00 CASH ONLY. Well, the it looks like traditional size changed. The price if I can remember, it was about $3.00 +/- but they are now selling what they call a "bigger" Baked BBQ pork bun for $6.0 I don't think it's double the filling or double the dough. It seems more like it's just 50% more But for double the price. I bought 2 bigger Baked BBQ pork buns and she placed in a white paper bag. At home, I was eager to break into it, and the dough/bun baked nicely, almost more of a light bake, and had a glossy top. However, the red meat filling looked minimal IMO and when I taste it, I felt like they may have used too much cornstarch or flour slurry to give it the more gelatinous like consistency. Unfortunately, it just tasted cornstarch pasty and flour forward. Also, the meat in the filling was too sweet and too gingery (or maybe used a fall or winter season spice) Note to self: Skip this bakery. We almost left but then the owner came out and told us he had some in the oven, where they were being kept warm. The buns were pretty sizable and very fresh and tasted delicious. We also got a cocktail bun which was also warm, sweet and filled with a good amount of sweet coconut mixture paired with a good ratio of soft, sweet bread. read more

Very nice lady. Got coconut bun, red bean bun, custard steamed bun, baked custard, and coconut custard bun. Unfortunately you could tell the bakery goods were a few days old. Just had that drier taste. The custard baked bun and coconut bun also had the filling not really right made. Didn't really like them. Ended up getting more buns at a different place that was further away to make up for the disappointment. Those buns ended up costing approx. half the price of these. read more

I also got the coconut cream bun, it was lacking cream filling, and it was not coconut flavored filling, but rather vanilla in a coconut bun. The staff is nice and friendly, it deff gives off mom & pop shop vibes which I love. There are plenty of options to choose from. There's no seating inside or outside. Husband and I jumped in the car and started heading over as it closes at 7pm as per owner. We knew we will not make it as we left our house 645pm. We called them and Mrs Yang said she will wait for us. Got there 710pm and she was still open waiting for me. After choosing all the stuff that I want my total ends up $41.25 They only accept cash and I only have $40 with me. Mrs Yang let's me take my goodies and just said "you can return the $1.25 next time. Super sweet when she actually doesn't know me. She also gave me instructions on how to reheat my pork buns (for how long and with wet paper towel). In the car, I had to open them and start munching away. That first bite of the Moon Cale with Taro!!!! Yuuuummmm!!!! Now I know why it's $6.95 for a piece. It's delicious!!! Definitely my go to place now when craving for pork buns, custard buns, moon cake (they have different fillings to choose from), and other bakery items. I've always wanted to try HK Bakery but failed multiple times because I don't carry cash around. Then one day HK bakery randomly came up in a conversation with my coworkers and they said: "You have to check it out. It's so amazing. Too good to miss!" So this week, I set a goal for myself: try HK Bakery at least once. Visit 1: We came on the weekend and got the famous mango mochi and banana mochi. Both were delicious, especially the mango mochi - packed with fresh diced mango. Both were so soft, chewy, and smooth, like a sweet dream. Unfortunately, we had ice cream right before, and I don't have a sweet tooth, so by the time we finished the mochi, I was too overwhelmed by all the sweetness to fully appreciate how good these mochis were at the moment. Visit 2: On Monday I was craving some delicious bbq pork bun and egg tart, so I swung by for lunch at 12ish pm. To my disappointment they were closed. Luckily, I'm very persistent (and impatient) when it comes to good food - I called at 3pm on the same day and they were open! The sweet bakery owner lady told me they are guaranteed to be open 8:30am-12:30pm EVERYDAY. Afternoon hours may very because they have other stuff to take care of. I immediately swung by and got a bbq pork bun and two egg tarts. OMG they are good!!! Best bbq pork bun I've ever had in the US, and best egg tarts I've ever had in my entire life! The bbq pork bun was packed with lots of really delicious bbq pork, mostly lean. The bun itself is so good too! Fluffy, soft, slightly sweet. I try to avoid carbs so sometimes when I eat dim sum buns, I "blasphemously" leave the outer layer bun. I could and would not do that to this bun. I ate it all, everything, even the bits of bun sticking on the wrapper sheet. Tip: heating it up for a bit will make it more delicious. The egg tarts are even bigger stars. I don't have words to describe how good they are. If you are an egg tart experienced, just look at the photos I took and you'll understand how good they are. Such flaky pastry crust, so thick, soft custard filling. Simply the best. I needed a snack.Hong King Bakery caught my eye. The baked pork bun was soft with moist filling and the pork was tender. This shop probably has a history as Mountain View was growing. It's a time capsule to the old bakeries you might find in a Chinatown. But MV is so modern and real estate is expensive that luckily it's held on for those who want Cantonese baked goods. It's very pricey. $4.20 for a steamed pork bun!!! It was okay but I wouldn't choose to buy again.
