Stopped by the bakery storefront at State Street Market this past Saturday while attending the art and wine fest taking place just outside. Little Sky Bakery opened at 11:00am, despite the hours listed online. And there was hardly a wait near opening time, as well as friendly service at the counter. Plus, the place offers such a diverse menu of pastries, sandwiches, and desserts, it was hard to make my selection. I ended up getting the shrimp egg and chive pocket (heated), peanut butter mound cookie, and seasonal mini banana bread (made with bananas, blueberries, walnuts, chocolate chips, and raisins). The shrimp egg and chive pocket was okay. Filled with tasty ingredients but the wrap wasn't very appealing to me. This had the taste of a giant asian dumpling, but dryer. Thankfully, the other items were outstanding. That banana bread had so much yumminess packed into a cute little loaf. Lots of blueberries and banana flavor, just a few walnuts, raisins, and chocolate chips in the mix. It was like banana nut bread and a blueberry muffin all in one... with chocolate! Even the raisins couldn't ruin this for me. The peanut butter cookie was even better. Again, light on the chocolate chips, but that natural peanut butter flavor and perfect chewy consistency made this addicting. read more

This was my first time ever at this little, pop-up bakery, and goodness they had so many things to choose from!! I let two people go ahead of me because I couldn't make up my mind!! A gentleman in front of me got a half a loaf of their cinnamon raisin bread, actually 2 -half loaves- one for his mother-in-law, and then one for his own mom who was visiting over the holiday weekend!! Hee. Even though everything was outside, I noticed as another Baker runner came over with fresh pastries. They were very concerned about making sure everything was fully wrapped up before transferring it to the next container! I really appreciated the fact they were worried about bugs, even though I did not see any in this outdoor, pop-up bakery!! The extra Care really meant something to me! As the lady served each person, she also switched out gloves and properly took them off and disposed of them! She also did so as she went to touch their credit card with her own hand and did not cross contaminate her glove to the credit card. The extra care and consideration means a lot since I'm somewhat of a germophobe! Lol. I ended up getting some sourdough bread as well as an oatmeal cookie for my niece. The lady at the register was incredibly patient with me since I could not figure out what I wanted whatsoever! Lol, My niece loved her oatmeal cookie and my aunt loved the bread! I will definitely be back here again!! Especially since we got lunch across the street at blue sky! Super cute little bakery inside the market plaza. Lots of variety for breads, cookies, sweet pastries and savory baked goods as well. They also serve sandwiches, quiches, and other lunch-type options. What makes them stand out is that they have quite interesting ingredients in their cookies! Their original chocolate chip cookies have apricots. Their double chocolate chip cookies have cherries. The cookies are huge (about the size of my hand) and they look amazing. You can tell. I didn't try the cookies until I got home and had dinner so about 7-8 hours later. Man, those cookies were still moist and delicious! Service is great! They also give out samples. I asked to try the Breakfast Bar. It sounded so good in the description with different grains, almond butter, and black sesame, plus it's gluten free. She gave me a big chunk to try. I ordered the pork and shrimp mando. It was pretty big and had a lot of filling, which was great considering the price point. Unfortunately, the flavor fell short. It also wasn't seasoned very well, and even adding chili oil didn't really save it. The person working that day was also not very friendly. I love the style of the pastries / breads here: dense, heavy, not too sweet, high quality ingredients, lots of seeds oats. If the aforementioned isn't your thing, then this spot might not be your thing :) When people complain about prices it's like - OKAY, you can't compare a small batch local bakery to prices you get at a big box store - the margins are completely different when you sell at low volume. I'm totally down to pay 3x if it means supporting the small guys and keeping these businesses alive. My wonderful mother brought back a sourdough currant scone and a seeded bread loaf from this bakery - the currant sourdough scone was wonderfully flaky and dense. I love their pastries!! I've only tried three types, but I refuse to try more because I already know what I like. Next time I'll have to go with friends so I can sample other goods. This is a review for their baked goods and food pick up service at different locations around the Peninsula. It's excellent! They have an option to order ahead online and at your pickup location, they hand you the items wrapped up in a brown bag. Simple and easy. I am partial to chocolate and am a big fan of their chocolate chip scone. I recently tried their mini banana bread chocolate chip but I did not like it as much - although chocolatey and moist, I felt that the blueberries and walnuts detracted from the experience. This is just personal taste though, and probably if I didn't like the chocolate chip scone as much I would be ok with the banana bread. I am also a fan of their almond raspberry muffin. The muffin keeps well for at least 3 days as well, in my experience. Of course, it usually gets eaten before then. read more

Little Sky Bakery is located inside the State Street Market, a food court on State Street. I'm posting my review on this Yelp business page because it is the the one that has the correct location listed. However, I'd like to point out that the business name is "Little Sky Bakery" and the Yelp page has the name misspelled with an extra "E" between the R and Y in the word Bakery. You can't miss this bakery, it is the first place on the left after you enter the State Street Market. They sell breads, sandwiches, cookies and more. Cookies may seem expensive at $6, however their cookies are HUGE. I don't think my photo shows how large they are. I picked up a Caprese Sandwich, which had tomatoes, mozzarella, and pesto. It was pretty good! I would get it again. There was plenty of seating at State Street Market when I went there for lunch, on a weekday. Restrooms are available (and the restroom also has diaper changing station for the little ones). There is parking on the street or at nearby parking lots. I love their breakfast bars. I'm not gluten free, nor is this a health conscious choice - I just love seeded oat-y cookies / bars. Be warned though this bar is massive, so get a friend to share it with. Their cookies are also great (and also massive), the oatmeal raisin cookie I got was soft and crumbly, more cake-y in texture (which I liked). Finally a place that doesn't make their cookie too crisp / hard. The caprese sandwich wasn't bad but personally probably wouldn't get it again since it was too much bread relative to the fillings (and a bit too oily for me). The chicken shiitake mando I'd also skip, a lot of bread relative to fillings and nothing special as someone who has eaten a lot of Asian buns in her life. Bread-wise, their pistachio challah was interesting, but I found it a bit dry and didn't end up finishing it. I got a half of their country loaf but regretted the decision to get a half since halving it caused it to get smushed. Wished it was more airy, would opt to try a round next time. read more

First of all, I always enjoy coming to State Street market. It's nice that the bakery has a little booth inside this delicious food court. They offer many different choices from savory to sweet, and I'm sure they have a reputation for selling the largest cookies around. I decided to go for the veggie focaccia this morning which was very fresh because I got there right when they opened at 11:30. Exceeded my expectations: chewy, flavorful and filled with ricotta cheese. Highly recommended! I also tasted the healthy looking breakfast bar and was delighted by the flavor combination. I decided that I wasn't going to be healthy today but if you find yourself at a bakery regretting all of the less healthy options, this one is for you. For dessert, I'm going to indulge in a sourdough chocolate chip scone and given how much I'm liking the focaccia, I think I'm in for a treat. read more

This is a smaller counter style outpost of this bakery located in State Street Market. They sell sweets and breads. That giant chocolate chip/everything cookie for $6/$7 was huge, thick and delicious. Chock full of nuts, dried fruits, chocolate chip, this easily feeds 2 people for their sweet fix. It was a keeper. I also got the morning bar per a recommendation of another customer in line. Not too sweet, and gluten free. These bars contain layers of oats, almond butter, sesame, poppy seeds, sunflower seeds, teff, sour cherry, shredded coconut, and a little bit of apricot jam and prunes. It was seemingly healthy, satisfying and again huge. Priced at about the same $6/$7, but again they're huge. I wasn't a fan of the nutella challah. It was dry and very nutella heavy, but not equally spread out. It just didn't work well in my humble opinion. Overall, a solid little bakery. read more

I got a section of the cinnamon walnut raisin bread from the Belmont Farmer's Market ($6.50) - I think an entire bread loaf is $12-14. (A) Taste - felt off. The bread was hard and dry and both my husband and I agreed that it was almost to the point of tasteless (B) Price - it is pricey. It was a small section of a loaf -- for context I usually buy the Inked Keto Bread from Costco ( ~ $10 for 2 loaves) and will lean into that way more vigorously This one will be a hard pass for me! read more

I'm not sure if they were sitting there for a while, but Tuesday morning display was full of beautiful pastries, cookies, and breads. They were huge: all the scones and muffins were way bigger than average. // Bran Muffin She was very nice and gushed about how bran muffin fans loved them. Most ppl would ask for three, they were so good. We'll, not so much, The outside was buttery flavored and they got it nice and crunchy. But the body was dry like cardboard. Definitely below average, and so not worth the $6. // Black Currant Scone Again, highly recommend. It looked great, large and crusty on the outside. They got that right. Little Sky Bakery has really disappointed me recently. I was in front of three other people in line, it was my turn, the staff barely acknowledged me before curtly asking what I wanted. Within a short month, we came across two different young female employees who seemed to have either no interest in being there or had chosen to provide people of color with a "I don't need your business" attitude. Took the Lox Sandwich. The bread was some seeded-sourdough baguette and was extremely hard and chewy. Felt like it was at least a couple of days old. I've been to both the Menlo Park and Los Altos locations. Both are amazing and I love them. What I call the 400 pound cookie (no nuts chocolate chip) is an insanely good cookie. Like, legit one of the best ever. It takes a few sittings to get it down, (or not- no judgement). They also have these giant savory "dumpling" style filled pockets of joy.
