He found this place on Yelp in 2022 when my family was living in Reno.. they are no longer in this area but we come to Mammoth Lakes each year and then we drive up to the Carson City Reno area for a couple of days to eat at this restaurant and a favorite breakfast place in the morning. The last few trips, we've gotten the same things which are: spicy crispy fried pork chops with the bone, Cantonese, noodles with vegetables and beef, and the General Tso chicken. The general chicken is a standout star with its tender, dark meat and delicious sauce. We now live in Phoenix and we've tried about six places, and none of them are nearly as good as this place. Since our families are not here anymore, the last few years, we asked them to slim down the portions, even though we will pay the regular rate, because we are on a trip and don't want to waste food. We hadn't been here since before the Pandemic, and it was pretty good back then. This time...not so much! First off, they don't have a lunch menu which we thought was strange. So I had the shrimp in lobster sauce and my wife had the beef & broccoli with orange chicken. After about a 15 minute wait, the waitress brought out one plate for my wife's meal, didn't say anything to me, and just walked away. About 5 minutes later she returned with some chili paste but still nothing was said about MY meal. She FINALLY came back with the worst tasting shrimp in lobster sauce I've ever had! I asked my wife how HER meal was and she didn't like hers either. While we were waiting, we heard the music coming through the speakers, but we had never heard those songs before. THEN there was a commercial telling everyone to embrace Jesus Christ! They had on a religious station in their restaurant!! VERY inappropriate, to say the least. We went to Reno for New Year Celebration, on New Year late morning we just wanted some non fancy lunch, we looked for a Chinese Hongkong style restaurant and this one came up, it's a number 2 instead of the original first one (I assumed). Anyhow, we ended up in Sparks which quite a few miles away from Eldorado where we stayed, but we could go shopping somewhere near there. The place is in a business building look like. there are plenty of parking spaces since we're the only customers there at the moment. One pleasant server, the place is decent size and clean. We had a feeling that this is for mostly take out since there's nothing on the tables. Anyhow, the prices are amazingly inexpensive. We ordered Wor Wonton Soup, my son ordered wonton noodles soup, I ordered the combo chowmein with kungpow chicken, and my wife beef with fried rice. My son finished his wonton noodles soup right away and liked it. The wor wonton soup is ver good, although the wontons are not very flavorful but plenty of veggies and meats. I and my wife both liked it. The chowmein and fried rice are very good, although the beef is a little salty but flavorful. The portions are big for $12 a plate, it's very inexpensive. We should move here and spend less money for food. It's a nice place, simple, good food and not beaking the bank. We'll be back when we're visiting Reno or Sparks. read more

I was hungry after being at the Reno DMV. With the help of a fellow YES (Yelp Elite Squad'25) member and my map program, I found this lil "whole in the wall" unassuming Strip-Mall restaurant less than a mile away. Lunch combination $12.50. I chose Garlic Chicken (spicy), BBQ Pork & Veggies, and 1/2 Pork Fried Rice, 1/2 Pork Chow Mein. HUGE plate of food!. Super friendly, helpful waitress. Quick service. I was in Reno visiting friends over the holiday weekend and I usually just let them pick the places to eat. This day, they picked this out of the way place for a Chinese food lunch. They said it had the best General's Chicken ever. OK, this I gotta see, even though General's Chicken isn't on my usual menu for Chinese food. The place is located in a sort of industrial area, you'd have to know about the place to come here. It's a basic interior and no problem finding seating. I was told during the week, you can order in English or Spanish. Weekend it's Chinese or English. We choose English, no problem. Besides the General's Chicken, we had the Singapore noodles, Beef Chow Fun with Black bean sauce with pot stickers to start. The pot stickers were nice, the deep fried variety and came with a good dipping sauce. Then the Singapore noodles arrived, holy moly, THAT'S a real plate of noodles all piled high! Then the General's Chicken came. Wow, that's the best looking General Chicken I ever saw, they weren't lying about this being the best! The fried chicken pieces weren't the usual thick battered pre made nuggets most places use for all those sauced chicken dishes, like sweet and sour, lemon or orange chicken. These were real hand cut dark meat chicken and hand dredged in a lighter batter, so it didn't end up like a corn dog! The taste was fantastic, even for General's Chicken! OK, I gotta say this is the best General's Chicken I ever had anywhere. Then the Chow Fun arrived last. Dang, where's the noodles, there all beef and sauce on top! No skimping out on the meat here! The noodles were on the bottom and I could tell they were made from fresh noodles as opposed to dry re-hydrated noodles, sort of like using fresh pasta vs. the dried past you boil. The noodles were super tender and had this melt in you mouth feel with that wonderful sauce. I haven't discovered this sauced version of Chow Fun till about a year ago. Before that it was just the dry version. The Singapore Noodles were super tasty as well! OK, I gotta say, this little out of the way place Hong Kong Diner II (I guess there's a Hong Kong Diner 1?) is some of the best Chinese food I've had even compared to the Sac Valley, definitely better than Red Bluff where I live! This review is strictly for a take-out experience. The service at the counter was decent and the wait time was not too short to be concerned about the freshness of my food and not too long either. I ordered a Hot and Sour Soup, Vegetable Egg Rolls and a Combination plate with Sweet and Sour Chicken, Chicken with Vegetables and Pork Fried Rice. The fried foods were a bit greasy and even think I got that over-used grease taste. The pork in the fried rice was like Jerky. The rest was actually quite tasty, especially the Chicken w/ Vegetables. I'm surprised I haven't reviewed this place already. We have been going here off and on for over a decade. The food is your basic to go chinese food. Nothing really to complain about when we get the food. We know what we are expecting. The last time I was here I ordered up the Wonton Soup and it was a good solid choice. Lots of flavor and lots of wontons and some basic bok choy. Exactly what I would expect. The place is a little run down and needs a little sprucing up. A good hard cleaning in the dining area would be a good idea, but we don't ever eat in. It's all about the good food to go at a fair and reasonable price. We were in South Reno and decided to give this place a try because they had pork dumplings on the menu. Wow wow wow, the dumplings are huge! The soups here at Hong Kong Diner II are often overlooked, but are some of the best Chinese soup versions I've come across locally. They really give super generous portions of the soup features, like the wontons in the war wonton soup and all the stuff included in the egg drop soup that no other restaurants give you. I had the War Wonton soup last time is it was more full of wontons and other meats and veggies than I ever had anywhere else. Damn, there was so much stuff in the big soup bowl, there wasn't room for as much broth, which was very well done too. My friend likes the won ton soup, but not the wonton dumplings, so I took all the dumplings and put some hot chili oil on them! Tasty this way! The Singapore curry rice noodles was excellent as well. Big portions! The deep fried spicy tofu was the best anywhere I've ever had. Nice fried cubes of crispy spicy tofu, firm on the outside and oh so creamy on the inside. This used to be a regular lunch spot for me and perusing my reviews, I realized I didn't have one for here yet, so here is the dish. It has a hole in the wall vibe to it with a pretty basic dining room setup, lots of supplies line what would probably normally be a bar seating area, not much in the way of ambiance but the staff are always very friendly and the service is pretty quick, the food is typical American Chinese but more affordable than panda. Hot and Sour soup is a monthly meal for me during the winter months and these guys make a solid version of it, served in a big bowl. I found the food here to be authentic and the service was very pleasant. The place was clean and presentable. The portion size was very generous which I found to be hard to find in this area. The pork chow mein had lean slices of BBQ pork which I appreciated. The amount of curry used in the Singapore noodles was just the right amount to give it the taste I expected. I've been here few time for late night snacks with friends but never have a chance to review. Came here on Tuesday night and it was quite busy. The service is as you can expect at fast food asian restaurant. You get seated very quick, a quick in and out. I ordered egg rolls, spicy pork chop, and pho. Egg rolls were fine. Little mushy when you bite in, less meat flavor. Spicy pork chop was my least favorite. I ordered it because it is one of the popular dish but mang it wasn't what I expected. This is a great, cheap, Chinese food place that is fairly busy around lunch all week. Although I didn't order it this time, I highly recommend their spicy pork chop! OMG its fried perfectly, salty and comes with sauteed onions and jalapeno. 6 out of 5 stars. This time I ordered the lunch special - broccoli beef, kung pao chicken, half chow mein/ half fried rice. Also ordered egg rolls. The lunch special was decent, enough food for two lunches even. Nothing stood out as being fantastic, but it was cheap, greasy and salty which is what I was craving. The fried rice was kind of bland, like it wasn't fresh nor was it flavorful in anyway. Next time im ordering steamed rice. The egg rolls were quite greasy, and I wouldn't recommend them, they also smelled strange. Skip them, try the pot stickers or crab rangoon. read more

We typically patronize this restaurant since it is close to our office. Oftentimes, our team places orders for special events with our company. I was disappointed to learn that when something goes wrong, the owner is not available according to their hostess. On 2/11 we ordered 2 combination plates (Sweet and Sour/Orange Chicken and Pork Chow Mein AND Beef and Broccoli/Orange Chicken with Chicken Chow Mein. Sadly, fried food, the Sweet and Sour Pork and Orange Chicken) were extremely horribly cooked. Very greasy, hard chunks, mostly breading, the pork and chicken in my opinion was old, not fresh. Many pieces were there was hardly any meat! I called and was told to bring back the food the next day. Which I did. The cook and another lady were essentially saying, that is how we cook our food and no one has ever returned. This restaurant refused to listen, try to see what could be done but I returned the plates as requested. So essentially, I paid nearly 30.00 for nothing! No customer service skills, they in my opinion couldn't care less about the quality of the food or lack thereof. As a result, we will no longer patronized this establishment since they really don't care about their food, replacing, refunding, listening to what happened. In my opinion, based strictly on my experience, I would be cautious and know that if you get served bad food, oh well! read more

I've been going here on and off throughout the years. I found out Hong Kong diner 1 and Hong Kong diner2 split up. The original owner is running Hong Kong diner 2. Since I've been going to both Hong Kong diners, I noticed that HK 2 gives bigger portions and put more stuff in their diner fried rice. The food is good and my kid eats it. It's not very busy when I go there in the evening and usually get my food to go. I'm sure it gets busy during lunch time. The staff is always friendly and enjoy seeing my kid. There's plenty of parking. I wished they stayed open later but it's not really busy enough to stay open late. This place is my go to for Chinese food. read more

I find this a good place to get decent Chinese takeout. I've picked up food from here about 4 times and I like most of the standard fare dishes; chow mein, egg rolls, fried rice, lemon chicken all taste good for the fried, unhealthy items that they may be. Eat at home in front of the tv with a pair of plastic chop sticks and enjoy this little guilty pleasure. We tried the dim sum platter last time and was decent with the steam buns being my favorite. They are soft and chewy with a nice pork filling. The restaurant is self is just a bland room with basic tables and no frills, but there is two big screen TVs if you feel like stopping in for lunch or dinner and catching a sports game. I use to be able to call in an order for pick up but the restaurant no longer takes call in orders only ordering on line! Good luck with that! Cannot even order on line their website is funky and Uber eats and Grub Hub don't even have their menus! I guess when their business drops they will start taking phone orders again! Been in Reno a couple months, and I'm still lookin for a decent Chinese food place in town. Thus far, the places I've tried have been too expensive for food that isn't worth the price. I had almost given up hope I would find a place I'd be willing to frequent, but I figured I'd give it another shot with this place. I was NOT disappointed! First, the price. VERY reasonable! I got a 2 item Combo with spicy garlic chicken, BBQ pork with vegitables, and pork chow mein. $7ish bucks. Also,I got some pork dumplings, and some crab cheese rangoon's. So, first I'll cover what I DIDN'T like. I got take out from this place. When I got home, I discovered a pool of sauce in the bottom of the bag, making it impossible for me to eat the food out of the containers I bought it in. I had to transfer it to plates and bowls, getting soy sauce all over my counter. Next thing I didn't like - the pork chow mien. It's not that it was bad, it wasn't. Just kinda... forgettable? Standard? Nothing that wowed me. I feel like this could have been something you buy from a grocery store hot wok. Not bad. Just ....ok. maybe it was because of how much I liked everything else that these were "just ok" but I'm trying to be as honest as possible. Now, onto what I like. EVERYTHING else. The crab cheese Rangoons were p e r f e c t crispy, perfect amount of crab to cheese ratio, not burned or dry....like I said, perfect! The pork dumplings were d e v i n e texture was amazing, flavor was spot on...I didn't even use the sauce it came with because I liked it that much! Definitely buying these again! The spicy garlic chicken was s u p e r b flavor, amazing. Spice level, fantastic. Sauce, nummy! Vegitables, perfectly cooked! Hot dang, dude, I want a bucket of this stuff! The bbq pork with vegitables, f a n t a s t i c even though the pork was cold, temperature wise, indicating to me that maybe it was frozen, and they added it to the vegitables, which were hot, it tasted great. Wonderful combo of vegitables. Would probably order again, just to see if the pork was hot next time, because it honestly tasted that great. I'm exited to try this place again, and see what other delectable surprises they have! EDIT - Went here again, tried the general chicken, pork fried rice, and crunchy spicy shrimp. OMG.... This is probably the BEST pork fried rice I've ever had, ever. Easy. Flavor was flawless, lots of veggies and meat, perfectly cooked and fluffy. Dude. Seriously good stuff. Spicy crispy shrimp was amazing too! Veggies mixed in with fried shrimp, a wonderful mix! Really liked it! General chicken was pretty good, amazing flavor, wonderful snappy crunch, even while being sauced. BUT..... I bit into several big bits of cartilage and fat. For me, no biggie, but I imagine some other folks, especially my wife, would be really turned off by that. read more
