We decided to give it a try and called in an order. The lady that took our phone order was pleasant and took our order quickly, even asking us what time we would like for pick-up. Our food was ready for pick-up when we arrived. And once again the service was prompt and friendly. The restaurant is clean and open. It has a large aquarium in the front and plenty of seating. The food we had was good, nicely prepared and tasty. The Ho Fun noodles were nice and firm, not mushy. The fried rice and pot stickers were both nicely done. I ordered the Szechuan Eggplant w/steamed rice. I can with choice of soup, I opted for Hot and Sour and a yummy little egg roll. The food was all plated together in styrofoam, hot, delicious and the perfect portion for the price. The woman who helped me when I can in was friendly and prompt. The dining area was clean with a nice large fish tank to enjoy if dining in. It would be nice if they had paper Togo instead of styrofoam. That would be my only recommendation. TLDR: Decent food. Has some non-ABC chinese food. This place is more like the Chinese restaurants in the bay. Not too Americanized. Sure, there are some, but they have other dishes like Singaporean Vermicelli. We chickened out and ordered the non-spicy version, the Taiwanese Vermicelli. I kinda wished we tried the spicy one. The taiwanese one wasn't bad, I thought. But it certainly doesn't taste like a non-spicy Singaporean dish. My wife didn't like it though. I miss the numbing spice. Not good. Not good at all. Not sure why you Reno people in this area gives this 4.2 stars. This was not as good as the bad Chinese restaurants in east Tucson. I had the Kung pao chicken. Flavor was not good, chicken was not tough but not tender and didn't taste that good and not fresh, veggies were weird with green cabbage the main filler. The sauce wasn't tasty. The hot and sour soup, same. Not so good. I had two bites of the Kung pao. Had a third bite just to make sure. And threw it away. Same for the soup. Waste of money. 5* = A top favorite. Mind-blowing good. I will definitely return and I will go out of my way to go here. Worth every dime of my money. 4* = Outstanding. Tucson-top-tier. Some elements not quite as good as it gets, but it still is worthy of my regular business. 3* = Good experience. I might do repeat business if it is convenient, the only option, the only one in its category, or on a whim, but would not be among the first thing to come to mind. The food is very similar to most Chinese take out place. The food tastes good. What I really like is the lady who works at the counter. I am not sure if this is her business. I decided to get a Thai tea and she had me pick out my favorite colored straw which I thought was cute and it was very tasty as well! They have a good meal deal for 2 people that has decent amount of food. The fried rice that was included was very good! I got the chicken and broccoli which was decent. We hopped in on a whim one afternoon, my husband dying for some hot sour soup. I'm not gonna lie, I was a little disappointed everything online had the daily specials for all day, only to find out when we got there it's now from 11-3. But we decided to get the Taiwan family meal instead. The appetizers were delicious, my kids loved the Rangoons and my husband enjoyed both of our soups. I thought their fried rice and chow mein were both very tasty and fresh. I got the sesame chicken which was very delicious, their chicken was quality, and the sauce was thick and definitely made the whole meal for me. I remember going to Taiwan Restaurant as a kid to pick up Dry Beef Ho Fun with my mom. It has been in Reno for over 20 years and the food still tastes just as good. It is run by the nicest family. The have always given large, affordable portions and everything is made fresh. Going back now, I have been able to try more of their menu. The best thing about Taiwan Restaurant is how many unique dishes they have. I have yet to find other places in town that offer some of the thing they do. One of the biggest highlights is the paper chicken appetizer. So good! The chicken is tender and flavorful. Another of my favorites are the duck dishes. While it has been getting more common lately, it was always difficult to find whole duck dishes in Reno since they usually had to be picked up from Sacramento. Both the Crispy and the Roasted duck are delicious! Both have their distinct flavors so it wouldn't hurt to try both. As always, the Dry Beef Ho Fun still tastes as good as it did 15 years ago, and you can't go wrong with the potstickers and crab rangoon. There is definitely something for everyone on the menu so bring the whole family or take it to go to share. Currently, the owners are trying to retire so what better time than now to check out the restaurant before it's gone! read more

WTF. NEVER AGAIN! I am on the toilet now having eaten an hour ago. Chicken wing appetizer was spoiled chicken and tasted rancid. Chicken curry had a staple in it. Tomato Beef Chow Mein was made with Ketchup. Egg Foo Young was flavorless slop. This place went from 5 star to 0. I will never go back. If you go you better have a lot of toilet paper. Ugh! We've walked past this restaurant a hundred times - on our way to Port of Subs and Safeway. And, finally, we decided to give it a try - after our friends said how good it is. We popped in for lunch - walked past the aquarium filled with koi. We ordered off the "All Day Special" menu. I ordered the Kung Pao ($6.95) and my husband ordered the Mongolian Beef ($7.50). Included choice of 2 soups (Egg Flower or Hot & Sour), Egg Roll and rice (steamed or fried). My Kung Pao was generously topped with peanuts and was full of tender chicken pieces and a variety of vegetables (carrots, bamboo shoots, mushrooms, bell pepper, onion, celery). The Mongolian Beef was very tasty, too. The only "miss" for us was the fried rice - so next time, we will order the steamed rice. Excellent service and generous portions - we will be back! read more

New management has continued the quality while brightening-up the amply sized interior, including at the entrance a wide aquarium filled with fish that are now approaching koi-size, so they're eating well, too. Taiwan existed virtually anonymously for some years, but in 2019 drew a slew of attention after the ownership couple's daughter took to Twitter in search of a buyer so her parents could retire. I ordered the Taiwan dinner for 2 or more and I was blown away by the value. We got Wor Won Ton soup, Foil Chicken, Egg Rolls, and fried Won Tons just for the appetizer. Then came out House fried rice and house chow mein followed by 2 entrees of your choice out of 40 different options. We chose Mandarin Chicken and Curry Chicken. Everything was fabulous. A Sunday afternoon running errands found me in the same mall as this restaurant. This was an occassion where I was feeling adventurous. Let's try someplace new. The Yelp rating was promising. Plus I love Chinese and am always hoping to find a new nearby lunch place. The parking is plentiful as it is located at a strip mall. The interior is uninspired...white walls with a few hanging pictures. The ceiling tiles near the kitchen are discolored. I was greeted by a very sweet old woman who took my order promptly. The menu is very American Chinese. I went with the Szechaun Beef special which included an egg roll and either egg drop or hot and sour soup. I took my order to go. Despite keeping it flat, sauce had run through the edges of the to go box making a mess in the bag. When I popped the top I discovered the entree was sitting in a half inch of sauce. This was even after some had run off into the two smaller compartments which held the rice and egg roll. The entree itself was average. However I like the fact it was more than just a "meat" entree. It contained onions, peppers, carrots, bamboo shoots, and water chestnuts. I used the rice to soak up for of the sauce. However my egg roll had been completely drowned so there was no point of adding sweet and sour sauce. The soup was good but was completely forgotten when I bit into a chewy fortune cookie. The good...The price point for the lunch special is great. You get a lot of food. Veggies are present. The bad...My meal (if I had eaten in) could not have been plated with that much sauce/juice without running over the edges. Therefore the cook elected to shortcut when he dumped it into my to go box. It was a shortcut which caused a sticky mess and ruined my appetizer by the time I got home. Considering I was the only person in the place at the time, there's no excuse for this. This was a case where I had such high hopes. I love finding a new "go to" for cheap Chinese. This place missed the mark. With several other places to eat in the same mall, this place will be a pass in the future. read more

The new owners reopened the restaurant about 3 weeks ago and we are glad they did because we found our new favorite Chinese restaurant in Reno. Awesome find for our family. They have dining during Covid, as of today. Owner is fantastic woman: mm. Very warm and welcoming. Reminds me of our local places back in Houston's Chinatown.
