I was craving Chinese food and my monthly Uber Eats credit was about to expire, so I jumped on Uber Eats to see what was out there. I came across Chinese Duck House. I've heard of it before but never actually tried it, so I figured why not. Scrolling through the menu, I noticed they had a couple of buy one get one deals, which definitely caught my attention. I ended up ordering wontons as an appetizer and chicken fried rice, both part of the BOGO deal, plus an order of Mongolian beef. I placed the order and headed over for pickup. When I got there about 20 minutes later, everything was ready to go. It was quick and easy, in and out with no hassle. Once I got home, everyone dug in. Overall, the food was good. The wontons and the Mongolian beef were the standouts for sure. The fried rice was decent, but it felt a little bland compared to everything else. This isn't authentic Chinese food by any means. It's definitely more American-style Chinese takeout, but sometimes that's exactly what you're in the mood for. The buy one get one deals make it even more worth it. I'd order from here again when I'm looking for that guilty pleasure Chinese food fix. read more

Living in Southern California, Los Angeles Chinatown was less than a 2 hour drive. We always order the pork chow mein and pork fried rice. We love the paper wraps chicken, seasame chicken, and orange chicken. Great portion sizes! We always treat ourselves to this whenever we don't feel like cooking. One thing is I wish my order came with fortune cookies (I personally like those!). I went in for a carry out order. Their menu looks amazing with a lot of options. I ordered the beef and mushroom with BBQ pork chow mein. The beef didn't have any flavor. It wasn't seasoned at all. It was cooked properly, though. My husband had Kung Pao chicken. He said the chicken was dry and, even though it said spicy, he didn't get the spice he was looking for. I have been eating here for almost three decades. I always came for the food not the ambiance. Apparently it has new owners. They've not only raised prices substantially, they've made their portions noticeably smaller. My wife and I had the American-Chinese classics Kung pao chicken, chicken fried rice and pot stickers. These are dishes that Duck House mastered years ago. They've been ruined by inadequate portions, a switch to cheaper ingredients, shrinkflation and greedy owners. I've literally driven all the way from Stockton just to eat it once, then turned around and drove back. That's how serious the craving gets! Every time I visit the Peppermill Casino (which is several times a year), this spot is my first stop. My husband and I always order a whole roasted duck just for the two of us -- and yes, we usually finish the entire thing in one sitting. No shame. It's that good. The prawn with spicy pepper salt is another absolute favorite. The prawns are huge, super crispy, and coated in a flavorful mix of salt, pepper, and spices that hits all the right notes. I ordered a special dinner in which I grabbed duck and honestly it was very tasty, it was crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside, the only thing I don't like is that it was a little salty to my liking but from there everything was good. We felt like they put MSG too, at that time, 'cause I felt dizzy after eating. The food is not too memorable for us to come back. Maybe since we tasted the best Chinese food before, our standard is high, anyway, until now, we are still looking for the best Chinese restaurant in Reno, and so far, our quest still continues. Not the typical delicious beef stew i was accustomed to expect when it comes to Chinese Duck House. Not to mention, I found a PIECE OF HAIR on my entree which was a very big let down. After reading a couple of reviews from other yelpers, I decided to come back and try this place again. It has been years since we've had the duck here. One thing I remember, for the price it is the only place in Reno where you can grab some quick ' duck to go' and they do a good job. It is not Peking style, but it is similar. We ordered A whole roast duck and a few other items. tried to order shrimp in oyster sauce, but they said they did not have it. They did have other shrimp dishes though? they do have large portions, that is one thing I can say for the price. What we ordered: Whole roast duck House fried rice Beef with green beans Pan fried potstickers Cashew shrimp Barbecue pork with vegetables Didn't take too long for the order. Again the portions were large, and the duck was spot on. But the rest of the food, was meh... there was definitely a lot of fives spice on all the food. The duck was good as expected. And they gave a huge portion. $42 for a whole duck. Finally the potstickers were pan fried, but stuffed with a starchy paste. Couldn't tell if there was actually meat in it. That is a huge change. We had high hopes for this local establishment. We walked in looked around and, after smelling the odor of sewer, walked out. It was disgusting! I'm sorry, I don't like to make such a scathing review, but it is warranted. The pictures on Yelp showed fountain soda machine but it's not there. They sell sodas by the can. This has been my favorite place to visit for some quality Chinese food in town. Locally owned and in a good location this place brings a lot of good food. My favorite time to go is for lunch where I can order the lunch special chicken chow mein with fried rice and an egg roll. It also comes with your choice of soup. My nephew said the sweet-and-sour plate was just alright but we both agreed the potstickers were good and I thoroughly enjoyed my Wor Wonton soup. The cashier lady was pretty nice and patient while I tried to decide what to order. The only criticism I have is after I had placed my order and was walking away from the counter, I caught a whiff of something malodorous in the air; first impressions is rotten vegetables but hopefully it was just cabbage cooking because those stink no matter how fresh they are or an ill-timed emptying of the refuse bin; I'm willing to give them the benefit of the doubt. read more

I have driven by this little restaurant for many years! I ended up here by chance as the restaurant I had planned to go to was closed on this day so remembered this was close by. Did not know what to expect but very pleased. Pleasant staff, nice menu with tons of choices and the usual and expected lunch specials. Love that I could see the cook preparing the meals.I ordered the Kung Pao chicken, no peanuts with steamed rice. I have to say, I was delighted with the appearance and then the taste. Very delicious! I am now anxious to try some of their other dishes. The hot and sour soup was rich, flavorful and a nice thicker consistency. Great place, i love the egg fu young and gravy here! Everything is always fresh EXCEPT the BBQ ribs. I ordered the pu-pu platter (basically 2 of some of their appetizers) and the ribs were dry. They were tasty, just dry. I find this common among all Asian food restaurants so im not knocking them for that. Everything was pleasant, and the staff are always very nice! I recommend the lunch special, it comes with soup, 1 fried shrimp/ egg roll and crab rangoon and you can get 50/50 chow mein and fried/ steamed rice. I came here specifically to try this super authentic and frankly sort of weird old school Cantonese dish that I'd tried at Yang's in Carson City. It sort of makes sense that the Duck House would have this dish as Yang's menu basically was the same as the Duck House as he worked here for 13 years prior to opening his own restaurant. The dish I'm talking about is listed on the menu as Beef and Scrambled Egg over rice. If you order this dish and you look more like a mainstream American customer, you'll probably get scrambled eggs American breakfast style with beef served over rice. I wanted the real deal authentic way. I heard you order it "Chinese" style or soft eggs. I wanted to try this dish here at the Duck House because I think it's the only place in Reno that serves this dish. I was told by a friend to get it served over chow fun noodles instead of rice, so I ordered it that way ($1.00 extra). The base dish was $13.50. What came out was very similar to the version I got at Yang's in Carson City. If you've never seen this dish, yeah it's pretty weird looking, like how do you get eggs to do that? The soft runny egg sauce for lack of a better word mixed with beef slices was flowing over a pile of wide rice noodles. The taste was similar to Yangs, maybe a little less peaky flavor profile but the soft melt in your mouth texture was there. I added some salt and it was brighter flavor wise. I did actually like this dish. So, if you want to try something totally different and weird looking but tasty, try the Scrambled Eggs and beef over Chow Fun noodles ... Chinese style. read more

Food is very true Cantonese style. To me, it tells me it is not as spicy. My wife ordered the mushroom chicken, with a cup of sweet and sour soup and I ordered a duck dinner. Both of us also opted for fried race with our dinners. Both dinners also came with 2 spring rolls, and 2 cream cheese rangoons. We were both very impressed with the food and the service. Very pleasant waitress who was also very helpful in verbally describing our dinners. Huge portions of dinners, probably enough for four people. We notice a flow of to go dinners constantly being picked up by customers. One major drawback was the condition of the furniture and the containers of condiments on the table. The chairs and condiment containers were very greasy, sticky-like. Not a pleasant, inviting, dining environment. Next time for us, it is take out food. My wife said this was the best sweet and sour soup she has ever had. My duck was cooked to perfection it was succulent and cut into manageable pieces. Give a try, if you like Cantonese style food, this is the place for you. A true hole in the wall.
