Honestly very close to 5 stars but a few things were slightly amiss for me here. The food was great (despite having some chunks of fat in my soup with beef brisket and quite a few duck bones in my friend's soup). You certainly get a lot of food for the price so it's well worth it. The service was fine, nothing amazing, and the ambience as a whole was good other than seeing the same music videos on repeat for the duration of our meal. Despite this, Hong Kong Eatery is probably my favorite restaurant in Chinatown for the quality of the food and price alone! read more

I went here with my friends recently for lunch. I ordered the beef tendon and roast pork HK style lo mein. My order came with beef tendons and roast pork on top of the noodles with some soy sauce. The waitress also gave me a separate bowl of hot soup to dip the noodles and meat. The noodles were good. However, the beef tendon was very chewy. I thought it was very hard to digest. The roast pork was really fatty and didn't have much skin. It was a disappointment. read more

Drove past Hong Kong Eatery, saw the roast ducks hanging by the window, and literally made a U-turn. Hong Kong Eatery is the first place in Boston I tried roast duck and crispy roast pork from. They're not my favorite, granted, I only tried them once but they do a decent job. I love siu mei restaurants because seeing the array of meats hanging gets my mouth watering. The roast duck here is pretty delicious, I like the flavor and the meat was tender. I ordered half of a roasted duck and the pieces we got didn't have much meat on them. I ended up picking through a lot of bones but the flavor is there and some ducks are just meatier than others. The crispy roast pork was not too bad. The skin was very crunchy though and was still crunchy the following day when I reheated the pork! The meat wasn't thick and cube-like like I am used to. While the pork was tender and not dry, it didn't hold together well and was easily separated. I'm used to thick, juicy, tender pieces of pork with a layer of fat and the crispy skin on top. Hong Kong Eater definitely has the layer of fat and crispy skin but as a whole the pieces just kind of fall apart. The taste is there though. Overall their roast duck and crispy roast pork satisfies a craving and I'd get it again but it isn't my #1 option in Chinatown. read more

I've been here twice now, once on Sunday @11AM and once on Friday @6PM. The restaurant fills up pretty quickly, with maybe about 20-30 seats. Food options that I enjoyed: -The three meat options that come with rice and some bok choy. - Great for sharing and a great price. ++ Soy sauce chicken is better than the Salted chicken (the slices seemed smaller and the flavor less memorable) + The Roast duck has good flavor, but the cuts of meat themselves are pretty skinny, I think duck in general is like this, and the flavor was great (so if you are more quantity over quality, you might consider a different meat) +++Roast Pork - this is a must, great combination of texture with the crispy exterior, fat and meat ratio. The Seafood Pan-Fried Noodles over the Wonton soup noodles -I liked the mixture of the seafood, the noodles were deliciously crispy without being drenched in sauce and it provided a good balance. The tea was a little lukewarm when we got it though. Service: It was actually pretty good - fast, a little bit rushing (but understandably). Came by to get some to go soup for hubby. I went to a bubble tea nearby and it's not far from where I parked. Since they still do take outs since this pandemic is going on around the world. The area inside is quite small. There were only few tables in there I'm sure it gets packed when it's busy. Had to wait for my order for about 5 or like 7 mins. They cook the stuff fresh after you order it so it's freshly done when you get it, which is good. But I'm not too sure for those people who are in a rush. I also got the roasted pork which tasted just like the typical Chinese roasted pork that you get in most places, there's nothing really special to it's taste for me honestly. I also ate it the next day. So I don't know if it's one of the factors. But as far as the other people who ordered without a soup it was out in less than 5mins plus it's totally not busy around this time. read more

My husband and I had a lovely dinner here last year (yeah I'm really behind on reviews). We got the salt and pepper squid and the wonton soup with roast duck. The salt and pepper squid was really solid--an excellent rendition of one of my favorite Cantonese classics. My husband thought it could have been crispier, but I liked how tender the squid inside was. They are well-known for their wonton soup and for good reason. The broth is comforting, and the wontons are yummy. Both went well with the roast duck. I've also gotten their roast duck on my way home from work before, and it was pretty good. Meaty, not too fatty, and seasoned well. If you're looking for an affordable, solid dinner option in Chinatown, this is a great place to go. Unlike Gourmet Dumpling House, you don't have to wait hours for a table as well. I'm looking forward to coming back for more wonton soup. read more

For lunch, I consumed about 2/3rds of my order of Eight Delights Chow Mein $6.95. Yes, the portion was more than I could handle in one sitting. The noodles were nice and crispy the way I like it. My only concern with the dish was that the fillets of fish weren't the freshest specimens. I figure it isn't a consistent issue, however, since another diner was quite vocal about how fresh the fish was in her mix seafood with vegetable in noodle soup. This restaurant is a good choice if you are on your own, or if the folks you are with aren't interested in sharing the meal family style. You can order individual bowls of noodle soups for $4.50-7.50, or a plate of rice or noodles for $5-9.95. This spot is more for the casual diner as even for Chinatown it isn't all that nicely decorated, and if you don't' fill one of the larger round tables, you might be asked to share your table with another party... or two. Their salt and pepper chicken wings $9.95 were deemed less crispy yet moister and tastier than Asian Garden's. Didn't see it listed on the take-out menu though... Wish the Pork, Shrimp Rice Sticks (Sweet) $7.25 was sweeter and more red but it was still pretty good. 1 star is for Roasted duck ONLY. Positives: came with bok choy and a classic bed of white rice. Negatives: it was probably the worst duck I ever had. I come from NYC area and the duck over at NYC is savory and meaty. It was way too sweet and barely had any meat. They put the damn duck on a diet then put way too much sugar in the seasoning. I came here because people praised the duck, but this aint duck. Last time I take white people's advice on what good roasted duck is. What surprises me is that authentic chinese people made it. After a day of sightseeing in Boston, we ate dinner at this place around 8pm. After we got seated, we waited about 10-15 mins before anyone came to take our order. The entire staff was busy eating dinner (family style) off in the corner when there were at least 15 customers in the restaurant waiting to be served. I'm used to this from my years of eating at Chinese restaurants but usually it's around closing time or during off hours. Once we ordered, the food came out fairly quickly. Some were pretty decent (General Gao's/Tso's Chicken, Hong Kong style wontons, and Chinese broccoli with oyster sauce) and some were mediocre (Singapore style noodles, chow fun, mapo tofu). They charged $5 for a large bowl of overlooked steamed rice. It took a long time to get the check and pay. When my wife was adding the tip and signing the credit card receipt, the waitress was watching like a hawk. Overall, it wasn't a good dining experience. Even if I was in the area and hungry, I will keep walking past this place. read more

Reminds me of the old school hole in the wall joints in NYC Chinatown. I ordered HK style egg noodles with roast pork and wonton soup. The pork was super juicy and tender, and had a nice crispy skin on the top. I like how it came with bok choy to balance out the carbs and meat. Expect a wait on weekends, both for dine in and takeout. The service is pretty typical of Chinese restaurants, meaning it's subpar. I had to flag the waiter down for menus after being seated. But for a pretty cheap price, you can get a authentic and tasty meal here. read more

This is a classic Chinatown joint. It's a bit chaotic and loud, and when it gets busy expect to be asked to share a table. Staff basically need to be tackled to be found. But the prices are cheap and the food is delicious. A typical meat-and-rice BBQ combo runs around $5, and it's a pretty big plate. The meat is good but I feel like could use more sauce. The little cup of delicious brown sauce that they usually give you at these kinds of BBQ joints wasn't there, and we had to literally chase down a waiter before we could get some. Overall, solid place for a cheap bite, but I wouldn't really expect anything fancy. read more

Interesting eatery. Service can be good to flaky. We would request or order items with her, and she would forget something each time, such as getting our order wrong, or forgetting to get us ice water as well. Wonton Soup and Wonton Noodle Soups are their strong suit here. Nice broth with thin egg noodles well cooked. Wontons had ample shrimps and ground pork, Congee here is good as well, especially for cold days. Their congee can be better by having it seasoned. Roast Pork and Roast Ducks here are tasty, with the roast pork having a nice crispy skin. Some people may find the pork a bit on a fatty side, though. One major negative with this place is that while they are open early in the mornings, their kitchen doesn't open until 10:30am, so certain dishes will not be available until the staff comes in, and that can be quite an inconvenience. read more

HK Eatery is legit. It reminded me of my days in Hong Kong. I came here at 11:15am for lunch, so had no problems getting a table. It was very crowded around 12 noon so I would suggest coming at an off peak time. I had the wonton noodle soup with 2 toppings- char siew (Chinese BBQ pork) and wontons. The price of your noodles depends on the number of toppings that you choose. The noodles were excellent, the char siew was very flavorful. The wontons were excellent too. Perfect for a cold Boston winter. I also ordered a side dish of vegetables in oyster sauce, they were good! The damage was minimal here, you can easily eat a meal for under $15. Enjoy! read more

Apparently this is one of the best if not THE most highly rated chinese restaurant in chinatown. I came here with my friend and went HAM. We literally ordered multiple dishes which included roast pork, roast duck, and wonton noodles with lo mein. I could see why it is highly rated, despite having to be packed into the restaurant like sardines. For all of the food I had just mentioned we paid less than $20! Its of course your quintessential chinese restaurant with no frills style of dining and you cannot expect michelin star quality service here but it is good thats for sure. read more

Best take out wonton noodle soup in Chinatown. You can customize the wonton soup to have additional proteins such as roast pork, spareribs, chicken and or duck on top. Also my go to place for take out steamed whole or half scallion chicken, soy sauce chicken, and roast duck. You can order takeout roast pork, pork spareribs and herb intestines by the pound. You can also dine in. For the longest time, I never realized they served more than what is hanging from the windows. The restaurant has an extensive menu comparable to the Chinese restaurants in the area and the food is just as good if not better. If dining in, I recommend the tradition ginger scallion stir fried twin lobster over longevity (yee mein) noodles. I would also order the stir fried pea pod stem with garlic sauce. I also like their jelly fish appetizer. read more

It is one of those hole in the wall places with the Chinese barbecue meats hanging on the windows. These spots are generally good for barbecue meats over rice, noodle soups, congee, and other rice and noodle dishes. I ordered a soy sauce chicken and roast duck over rice. Both were very good. It came with Shanghai bok choy. The dish was $1 more than I am used to but still not that expensive. Hong Kong Eatery is solid and what I expect from this type of restaurant. After squeezing through all those people in the front, I finally found a table at the back of the restaurant. Great food for a small price. Got my wonton n BBQ pork Lai foon for $6. Tasted great! My brother tried their Roast Duck & Wonton Lai Foon and wasn't too happy with his roast duck because it was mainly bones in it. I couldn't fall asleep the other night and all of a sudden was hit by a strong craving for Hong Kong style fast food, particularly wonton noodles. I Yelped for the food item in question, which led me to Hong Kong Eatery. I texted my boyfriend, who was asleep next to me, that we were going to get this for brunch the next day, and we went straight away when I woke up the following day. The restaurant was completely full when we arrived, probably since it was a Saturday, and we had to wait a few minutes before getting seated. Service is quick though, so don't be afraid to wait if there's a line. I ordered noodle soup with wontons and roast duck, and my boyfriend had the noodle soup with wontons and char siu (roast pork). You can make your own noodle soup with choice of noodle type, and one, two, or, three toppings. The wontons were juicy and bouncy, just the wah they should be, and the noodles had the perfect amount of bounce as well. The duck was a little too fatty (could have been roasted more thoroughly) and the char siu was unfortunately too chewy. I'll be back though! read more

Originally wanting pho, I walked to New Dhong Khang not realizing it was closed on Mondays, #fail on my part. Still craving soup noodles, I popped into Hong Kong Eatery and was pleasantly surprised. I was sat right away and I ordered the roast duck wonton noodles. I ended up being happy that NDK was closed because this noodle soup was delicious and rich. The soup came out heartier than expected (see pic) with 4 large wontons, 5 pcs of lean duck meat, bok choy and a good amount of wonton noodles. The soup was flavorful and didn't taste like it was full of MSG, which I know a lot of Chinese restaurants like to use. My big bowl of noodle soup was only 8 dollars too - which is on par or cheaper with other lunch options around Boston. I would def call this getting your bang for the buck. It took a while for me to get my change as the place was full but I just ended up flagging someone down as I was leaving to get change. This place is a close second for me in terms of Chinese bbq and roasted meats, Wai Wai is first in my book for meat and rice dishes however the wonton noodle soups here will be my go to. The place filled up around 12:00 and there were a couple of people waiting for seats. When I came around 11:45 it was fairly empty.
