We made a reservation ahead of time for our large group of 12 people at Baby Cafe. They have a tiny parking lot with 3 narrow spaces in addition to street parking. Our food came with a complimentary drink so we had to try the "Ice Baby Milk Tea" drink which came with a frozen "baby chef" that later melted---the milk tea was absolutely delicious that tasted just like the milk tea I've had in Hong Kong. Favorite dishes of the evening: The hand-shredded chicken. Our cousin orders this every time they come and I can totally see why. It was tender and so flavorful! String Bean w/Ground Pork--it's diced up pretty small and my daughter loved this dish. Popcorn Chicken--crispy crunchy and so flavorful--I like that these aren't spicy Sour/spicy fish and pickled mustard greens stew--this was my favorite dish of the night. I'm going to go on record and say this is probably the best hainanese chicken I've had in awhile. It was juicy, moist, and flavorful. The way it was prepped and packaged, there were barely any bones. Our good friend got this delivered to us and it still tasted amazing. Imagine dining in?? The minced string beans with beef were so addicting, I couldn't stop eating it with white rice. She got us a whole chicken that came with two side orders of rice. Not sure if it comes with one or two, maybe she ordered an extra one for us. The salt and pepper squid were ok. A little soggy due to the delivery but were still solid after placing it in the over. The ginger scallion that came with the chicken, amazing. I love the ginger aroma. Came here for a quick bite so didn't get too much. Very big open space, wasn't too busy with clean bathroom. We got the mapo tofu and hainan chicken. Both were really good, I love the numbing feeling of mapo tofu and they definitely captured that. The chicken was good but I wish there was more of it, feel like the portion was quite little especially being a lot of bone especially for almost $18. Stopped by to get a small bite. They did change their menu a bit, but most items on the menu stayed the same. We just ordered half Hainan chicken and beef stone porridge. The chicken was so good that I originally planned to take out the leftovers, but we emptied the plate since they took out the bones, which makes it easier to eat, and the ginger oil was light and not overly spicy (since I am not a fan of ginger). The beef stone porridge was thick, and the beef was soft. There are a few items that I want to try. We've heard things about Baby Cafe and I'm glad we could finally visit! The place had a few open tables, but was full enough where it felt busy when we arrived. The interior was nice and felt pretty modern as well as super clean. The menu had a good mix of dishes from fusion to more classic Hong Kong options. We opted for the latter, getting rice and various dishes to share that weren't as modern as their pasta variety. The tea was super nice and fun (melting ice baby was quite cute) while everything came out super tasty and hot. Service on the other hand was unfortunately a bit slow - there were only 1-2 people on table duty so it was very hard to flag someone down for ordering, getting the check, and water refills. This isn't the servers' faults though - there probably should have been more folks working on a weekend. I mean we have our infamous HK style French Toast but their butter toast is like a diff. level. Slight crisp on the outside with a buttery texture. Drizzled with condense milk! I ordered takeout from Baby cafe so this review is solely on the taste/value and does not account for the location/service. I had the curry fish fillet, serving size was pretty small and wasn't as filling, but it was very yummy! Was craving for more curry sauce and wished there was an option to order extra on the side. As a Cantonese person, I did not have high hopes for Baby Cafe lol. But I was very pleasantly surprised. They have the best beef chow fun in Boston - hella wok hei and plenty of string beans, onion, scallion, and beef. The curry fish ball was good - but not the best I had. The lemon tea was decent too. However, I got the Portuguese baked chicken over spaghetti, which was my child fave , and it was ... flavorless. This is the first restaurant in my 11 years in the US that served me real HK style wonton noodles! IYKYK. The countless number of places I've tried serving "wonton noodles" never even use the right noodles. This place does! Hainan style chicken rice was bomb too, chicken was real tender and they made the ginger sauce how I remember it! Also overhead aunties talking in Cantonese, which is always a good sign if you want authentic HK food. HK style milk tea was good too, could be slightly thicker but I can't complain. I found this place through TikTok and the reviews seemed quite decent so we decided to try this place out for dinner. It was a weekday and we were seated quite quickly. The decor is quite modern and nice, good for Instagram photos. The menu is extensive and has all the classic HK cafe favourites like baked rice dishes and stir fry noodles. They also have more traditional dinner dishes good for sharing. We tried a lot of things: Sizzling Ground Pork Japanese Tofu - this was a fan favourite. I love the egg tofu. House Beef Stew - this was a bit of a let down. The cut of meat was poor and it was too salty. Hainanese chicken half with rice - the chicken was deboned and nicely flavoured. The rice also had a rice chicken flavour, but it was way too oily - oil actually dripped off the bottom of the bowl when I tipped it. I had to mix it with regular rice when I ate it the next day. Sweet & Sour Pork Chop - The table didn't like these very much. The flavour was off from what I typically enjoy about this dish. Pepper and Salt Chicken Wings - nicely fried and good flavour. This review is for Baby Cafe takeout. Dropped by to order some dry beef chow foon take out. As most folks know, ordering dry beef chow foon is a good indicator if the restaurant kitchen food has the "wok air", which is achieved from high heat cooking. Unfortunately, baby cafe didn't have that critical wok air taste so the beef chow foon was just missing that key attribute. The wide rice noodle was still cooked thoroughly and was nice and chewy. Takeout took a while though but that gave me a chance to observe the interior which was actually very nice due to the tree ambience style decoration. I will definitely try eating inside next time but not ordering the chow foon. read more

My friend and I stopped in for an early dinner on Friday around 5:30 and there was no wait with plenty of open tables. The place is bright and cutely decorated with the artificial trees/plants. We ordered the following: baked fish fillet with rice, hainan chicken, fish ball curry, and dry beef chow fun. The baked fish fillet had good flavor - but I wouldn't get again with rice, the spaghetti is probably much better. They use swordfish filet which is interesting but the fish was tender and not overcooked. Hainan chicken was tender but not too flavorful. Basically tastes like they boiled the fish balls and then tossed in some very watered down curry - hard pass. The best part of the meal was the dry beef chow fun! Oh my goodness. Everything was just okay. My personal favorite was the corn fish bake bc it's unique and something that you can't really get anywhere else in the Boston area. Everything else was not that memorable. The service at the restaurant is quite good considering there's only really two waitresses at one time. Overall: if you're looking for a Hong Kong style restaurant that hits the spot then come to Baby Cafe. They have your classic lemon teas, baked spaghetti pasta, and everything in between. For the food, there were dishes that were absolutely 5 stars and others that didn't 100% hit the spot which was why my review was balanced to 3 stars. My top contenders and dishes I recommend are the hainese chicken (so juicy and flavorful), green beans and beef, and the braised beef noodle soup. These were really good and had the classic flavors of a hong kong cafe. I rated the baked spaghetti and pork dish more mid tier. The spaghetti and sauce was very good but the pork was a little dry and chewy. My least favorite was probably the bibimbap. The bowl lacked flavor and the sauce / flavor provided was only gochujang which made the dish overly spicy. We came for an early dinner, 430pm, so there were plenty of tables. Very nicely renovated with modern designs. Pretty spacious. Very bright. With the decor, tree in the middle of the restaurant, it transforms the restaurant where you feel like you're sitting in an enclosed outdoor patio. Service today was not very attentive. Friendly when they did come around, but we had to wave them down to order and to get more water. They weren't busy so they were standing to the side most of the time. Usually when they're busy, they are more attentive. Food came out pretty fast. The Hainese chicken was very tender and flavorful. The mapo Tofu was ok, lacking some traditional flavors, the toast was ok (nothing compared to the actual HK ones), the walnut shrimp was decent (shrimp aren't as big as the ones you get from other Chinese restaurants), the deep fried smelt fishes were so good, we had to order another one, the pepper beef lo mein was different but good. One comes and then there's the new best thing! After the chicken place lasted not even a year I was wondering what restaurant was coming to the gas station building in Allston.. When I first heard the name Baby cafe I wasn't sure what to expect but learning more & more about it made me excited for it to open up. They have hong kong style cuisine based from locations in California. I'd never been inside the space before so I thought it was tiny. But the inside is massive and the way they designed the place was absolutely beautiful. I mean there's even a tree in the middle of the dining area. Their menu is a HUGE booklet of about 12 pages filled with images of drinks, pastas, rice dishes and appetizers. I had trouble choosing from so many different options. Pricing for entrees is a bit higher than expected but things are meant to be shared and the portions are really good. Everything came out around the same time in about 15 mins which was fast but they weren't too busy on that wednesday evening. The Ice baby milk tea is cute and yummy, containing a block of carved ice of a baby floating in it.. I would have never thought about eel in spaghetti but it was such a good combo but sadly the spaghetti sauce was kind of bland and could've used a little more OMFFF. Not sure if I was supposed to eat the rice on the rice cube since it was rock hard but I was munching on all the meat hidden in it. The butter toast was the perfect dessert to finish off the meal. I was so excited to have a place that does hong kong dishes that you can't get at every chinese restaurant. Some of the items I was most excited to try was the Portuguese chicken rice dish, hk milk tea, salt and pepper chicken wings, and HK toast. Not sure why people are meh on the food. Overall, clean, open, spacious, and fast service. Felt like a very clean upscale HK cafe. - the wonton lists the beef version next to it but isn't actually wonton so it's a little deceiving; still a great dish - popcorn chicken was 10/10 - tofu was good - chow mien was cooked well - rice noodles were good - milk tea was delicious - red bean drink was sugar pumped and good - don't get the bear milk tea drink; less quantity for $2 more just because of the bear Overall, decent food. Nothing insanely spectacular but the popcorn chicken was really good and large portions. Prices are high, but that's inflation and labor cost. 4 parking spots outside make it convenient to eat here considering the chaos. Only reason I dinged this place was because there was a pebble in my noodles that could have chopped my tooth. read more

My family and I were seated immediately and ordered the Sizzling Steak, Hai Nan Chicken Rice, Baked Pork Chop Spaghetti, Baked BBQ Eel and Shrimp Spaghetti, and Hong Kong Butter Toast. Everything tasted relatively fine, and the portions were decent. I found the sizzling steak the most worth as it came with a large amount of meat. We chose the pepper sauce, which was way too peppery. The steak was decently seasoned so it did not really require the sauce. Some parts were a bit fatty but overall, it was decent. The Hai Nan Chicken was really moist and flavorful. My only complaint is that there is not much meat in comparison to the amount of rice given. I did enjoy the salted peanuts on the side. Both baked dishes were decent, but I preferred the white sauce over the red sauce. I found it more savory yet not overwhelming to taste buds. The baked eels had a chewy texture which I did not really like. The pork chops, on the other hand, were very moist and good. We ended off with the Hong Kong Butter Toast as dessert, which was not too sweet and moist, so I enjoyed it. Overall, the food is not bad, and I enjoyed the extensiveness of the menu. read more
