I have ordered take out quite a bit from Hong Kong. We have not been disappointed. It definitely hits the spot when you're in the mood for chinese.. and let's face it.. sometimes you NEED chinese take out! lol The service is friendly, the delivery has never taken more than 45 minutes, the portions are great (big, you get your moneys worth!), and the food is yummy! I also really like that I can order from yelp :) I'm particularly fond of the chicken lo mein, general tso chicken, and mongolian beef. I also really like the wonton soup and spring rolls. I have tried one or two other chinese takeouts and they have not been as good, so we will be sticking with hong kong. read more

I've ordered from Hong Kong express several times at my old address, food is ok, and usually on time or early; better than cooking or driving when you're tired. I moved and ordered tonight at 8:42 pm, tracking the order it said it would be here by 9:10. It's now 9:53. I called and they said they sent out the order but realized it was wrong so had it brought back and re did it and sent it out again??? I would normally be happy about this if I had gotten a phone call saying it would be well over an hour. Especially being so late in the evening. If you guys are backed up or have problems just let your customers know please. Received my order at 10:12 and the order was wrong, I paid extra for something I didn't receive, food is warmish. My husband, 2 yr old twins and I moved feom California to Spokane WA in June. We love Chinese food! And ever since we got up here we've been looking for a good place with no luck. Bumped into some really awful ones that made us weary about trying more food. Our boys are too loud and fussy to go to restaurants with, and there isn't many carry out options up here. We found this on my husband's birthday and decided to give it a try and we were so fricken happy that they cud deliver to our door! And, when we got our food and it actually looked like real Chinese food with great taste!!! (Do not like americanized Chinese food) have ordered a couple times since and worth every penny to satisfy our cravings!! Too many bad experiences. last order I spent $14 for lo mein and it was so salty inedible. Today I ordered $35 of food at 1010pm they close at 1030, I live 10 minutes away. They took my order! then 20 minutes later called and I was expecting it to be the delivery driver. instead it was the store saying "It's too late, we won't cook your food" NEVER again. Who takes an order and then is too lazy to fill it? There is some good food, but very hit and miss. Worst customer service ever. I would never take on a job and not do it. This place needs to learn customer service. I ordered from pizza rita during a snow storm once and they said "we are very behind, but don't want to leave anyone hungry tonight. It will be 2 hours until we get your food (3AM!) but we will be there" I obviously told them to not worry about it, i'd order another time and to be safe. What's this place' excuse? I had ordered takeout for a friend over the phone from another state and they delivered at the time they said they would and called me to confirm delivery. They did not charge me extra for an out of state delivery order and was super professional despite being in a vulnerable position. They could have treated me like I was scamming them since I was ordering for a friend but they did not. When I visit college friends in Washington I am definitely ordering from Hong Kong Express and will thank them in person. read more

Ordered 2 chicken lo main with no veggies, side order of beef and broccoli with fried rice, thinking portions were going to be small since I was asking for deliver and food was going be split 3 ways, was I wrong! One order of chicken Lo main would have been enough for 2 people With this order we will have enough for dinner too! Everything was delicious. This is the most terrible restaurant I have never been. Might be my fault, the desserts buffet is a horrible choice. I believe I will not choose any dessert buffet in my future time. The food coming out very slow, the Thai tea I ordered is less sweet, but it is super sweet. I never had this bad experience about a restaurant because I don't want to make them not happy. I live in the Emerson Garfield Neighborhood, so Hong Kong Express is pretty close. When I get a craving for Chinese food, this is the place my partner and I tend to go. The other night I tried ordering from the Yelp app for the first time and was very pleased! It was super easy, I just selected what I wanted, Paid via the app, and my food was delicious (as always), I even got a confirmation of my order that had a timer so I could keep track of WHEN H.K.E. received my order. The cost was not worth what I got. The BBQ pork isn't the kind of bbq pork I've seen at other Asian restaurants. It's bigger and wasn't pink around the edges and even tasted a little funny. This was my first time ordering delivery, and they were super quick! My order arrived in under an hour and it was still hot! The shrimp dumplings were bland and slightly rubbery, and the shrimp and leek patties were mostly blah. But this is one of the only places I've found that serves chow mei few, and it was really good! My son and I decided to try Hong Kong Express after receiving a flier for the restaurant in our mailbox. There were no coupons, we ordered dinner online, at full-price for carryout. We showed up a couple minutes early, I sent my son inside to pay, but the food wasn't quite ready. A good sign, I thought, "it'll be fresh!". After waiting several more minutes, I went back inside and said I was there to pickup our order. One of the two women at the counter said something about the fried dumplings not being ready. To which I replied, "I didn't order fried dumplings, I ordered steamed dumplings.". I figured wires got crossed along the way and that she'd just fix it and I'd be on my way. Holy cats, was I wrong. She insisted I had ordered fried and showed me the order slip. It said "fried dumplings". I stated that when I ordered online, I clicked the "steamed dumplings" option. She started to get angry and argued with me a bit. At this point I was more confused at why she was getting so upset than anything else. I mean, what's the big deal? The order either came in wrong, or printed wrong or I could have mistakenly clicked the "fried" option. I couldn't understand why they didn't just fix it. Finally she snapped at me that she'd get me steamed dumplings: then rolled her eyes and stomped away. At this point, I was a bit upset. I didn't raise my voice, instead I calmly said to her (and to the other woman at the counter) that it was not wise to roll ones eyes at and to argue with customers. At this point, anyone who has ANY customer service skills at ALL would have apologized and let it go. She, however, chose to do the exact opposite. She stormed back over to the counter, shoved the ticket in my face and (in a raised voice) said I was accusing her of lying. I should point out that not once did I ever accuse anyone of lying nor did I even accuse the restaurant of making a mistake. I simply figured there was a mistake made by someone along the way and that it'd get taken care of. I calmly mentioned exactly that and hoped we could move forward. She again stomped off into the back of the restaurant, reappearing moments later with container of steamed dumplings. She brought them over to me and said in a very snarky tone, "See! Steamed!". To which I replied, "Thank you, I see that. That's great." This is where everything went REALLY sideways. Instead of letting it go, she stomped back over to the other woman and started speaking in her native tongue and gesturing in my direction. Right here, I probably should have let it go, but she was being mean, rude and disrespectful and as someone who has worked in a customer-facing role my entire career, I couldn't say nothing. I again spoke to her in a normal speaking voice, saying that it was mean, rude and disrespectful to talk about someone right in front of them, even if (and maybe more so) you're speaking in another language. I also mentioned that given the way I was being treated that I would not come back to their establishment and would likely write a negative review about my experience. Instead of making any attempt to pacify the situation, she chose to YELL at me (literally yelling at the top of her voice). She yelled at me, telling me that the manager (? he appeared looked managerish) was agreeing with me that she was being mean. She continued to yell and I decided I'd had enough. I told her, the woman standing with her and the "manager" that I'd had enough abuse and they could keep their food. I walked out the door and drove away. Never, ever in all my 46 years have I been treated with such disdain and disrespect by someone in a customer service role. She gave exactly zero f's about me, the customer. No one in the restaurant seemed at all interested in neutralizing the situation, but rather let this woman rage at me - regardless of the fact that I was their customer. I was taught that the customer is always right - even if they're not. Not at Hong Kong Express. Don't waste your time or your money. They don't deserve your business and has lost mine. read more

This rating is for the lunch buffet only. The buffet is very small and located near the side door. There is a small salad bar as well. I think I read where they might be moving soon and I may have a better rating if there is more room for additional menu items. I tried almost everything at the hot buffet and only shrimp at the salad bar. There were only two items I liked. One was the hot and sour soup and the other item , yummy chicken balls! I mean seriously, who doesn't like Chicken balls! All the other items were just not good. The Mongolian beef, ugh, the spicy chicken, the walnut chicken, the peanut chicken , and even the shrimp were not anything I would ever order again. I really wish there had even some dumplings out, but alas there were none. I did eat a fried piece of chicken that was not horrible, fried rice not bad either but definitely not great. The price here is fantastic though at $8 including tax. Their phone was ringing off the hook for delivery orders. Maybe I will try that one day. Our party of four stopped in for lunch on a Saturday. Two had the buffet, two ordered off the menu. The two having the buffet thought the choices were decent, but the taste and overall quality was mediocre. Granted, it was a Saturday after peak dining time for lunch (we arrived around 1:30 pm). The two ordering off the menu were disappointed --- the food was cooked fresh (unlike the buffet which for the most part had been sitting for a while), but it wasn't that good, let alone "best in Spokane." The dim sum? Steam the frozen stuff at home and avoid the markup. So Yelpers, let's be honest here. When I first moved to Spokane several years ago I read somewhere that Spokane had more eateries per capita than any other city in the U.S. When I told a friend here that, his response was, "Yeah, and we have more bad Chinese restaurants per capita, too." I think Hong Kong Express breaks that mold. I have no business eating at buffets, & Hong Kong Expresses buffet is one of my greatest weaknesses. It's the Chinese buffet I keep going back to time & again. It's freshly stocked. I have no idea what what constitutes "authentic". I've been to Taiwan & the closest thing I've found to what I had there was in Little China Town in San Francisco. So, as far as American standards (& Spokane, for that matter) I think this place is about as good ad you'll find. Some of my buffet favs are the cold spicy mussels on the 1/2 shell, mushroom chicken, & peanut chicken. I finally left room for the ice cream and had the green tea...delicious! I also appreciate that they have a very good Hot & Sour soup! I have also tried their home delivery of menu items and the service has alway been fast & the food hot. My only poor experience was getting lo mein noodles once that were way too greasy, but this was only one time, so I can give that a pass. The management of this establishment need a REALITY CHECK if they are to stay in business. In the afternoon mail I received coupons for their "Buffet". It was described as "Best Buffet in Town". They also proudly said "Best Chinese Food in Town". I can only assume that the glowing reviews posted here were actually written by restaurant management. Anyone who has actually eaten in this restaurant will have a VERY different perspective! This is a generic neighborhood Chinese Cafe serving only the most generic grub. The bulk of their orders are for Take Out/Delivery with only a very few people actually eating in their on site dining room. I can only assume that they think there are NO other buffets in town and that they are the ONLY place serving Chinese food in the area. I have eaten in ALL of the other Chinese Buffets in the region within the past six months. This one is by far the SMALLEST Chinese Buffet in the region with the most limited number of choices. Their "buffet" is actually one small steam table where the delivery orders are kept hot. The choices include egg rolls, chow mein, fried rice, and several different types of chicken. Nothing fancy. Nothing unique. Nothing for Management to be proud of. This restaurant needs a good cleaning and a MAJOR attitude adjustment if they expect to remain in business. We came and stood politely by the cash register waiting to be seated. The kitchen staff totally ignored us. There was no one in the entry area. There was no one in the dining room.. Eventually a young man came charging out of the one unisex bath room (yes, Ladies, you have to share the ONE bathroom with anyone who comes into the restaurant as well as the kitchen staff). The fellow asked us "What do you want"? We asked if we could have the buffet he said "its over there".... and immediately left the area for good. There were no soup bowls set out anywhere. We ended up putting our soup into coffee mugs.. There were no glasses set out for ice water or soft drinks. This is strictly self service. You get up and get your own refills of ice water and soft drinks. We had to walk past THREE full tubs of dirty dishes to get into the dining room. The surface of our table was sticky. The vinyl seats were badly cracked and "repaired' with plastic electrical tape... which was also cracked and split. The restaurant is fully self service - apparently this extends to doing routine cleaning of your table and booth. Eventually a female staff person came into the dining room. She had the personality of a North Korean Border guard - and made us feel almost as welcome. She acted as if the only reason she was there was because a family member was being held hostage. Management needs to take her, and the other staff aside and explain basic "Customer Service Skills" to all of them. read more
