On the outside, hong long looks like any Chinese take out. One of our friend lives around the corner and recommended we give them a try. It just happened yesterday we stopped over my friends house after work and I decided to call them for delivery for dinner. We had a total of 4 adults and 6 kids. For dinner we ordered general tso chicken, sesame chicken, chicken lo mein, subgum wonton entree, steam shrimp dumplings and a small hot and sour soup. The nice lady over the phone indicates my order qualify for a free 2 liter soda. I told her we don't drink soda and can we have 2 free egg rolls instead. Without hesitation, she replied, 'of course'. A plus in my book. I usually judge a Chinese restaurant by their hot and sour soup. If the hot and sour soup is good, their food usually follows. When I opened the pint of soup, the aroma was evident. The consistency was not too thick and the color looks about the same as others I had. The big difference for this soup from others is the amount of ingredients. The soup is loaded with veggies, big chunks of tofu and bamboo shoots. It had a good balance of sour and spicy, although I like a little more heat in my soup. Both general tso and sesame chicken were both crunchy on the outside and tender inside. Flavor was also very good. If you like a little more heat on your chicken, I recommend asking for hot oil on the side. The lo mein was also very tasty, although it's a little too greasy for my taste. The shrimp dumplings were good. I like how their dumpling skin is less doughy compared to other restaurants. Overall, I would say Hong Kong is a pretty good chinese take out. It's no where near authentic by any means, but their flavor profile and the price point make this restaurant a good option. read more

There are a number of better places if you don't mind going another 15 minutes or so north. We ordered from Hong Kong Rest a few times to try different things. It doesn't matter whether you order pork, beef, or chicken. There is not much of the protein in the dish and they all taste the same. The deep fried dishes like sesame or Gen. Chou's chicken are mostly bread balls. The spicy Sechuan or Hunan dishes are not. The dishes, even with asking for extra spicy are bland. read more

Solid chinese take out restaurant. My family and I have ordered a wide variety of dishes and we have not been disappointed. There are some "special menu items" that are not chinese food. I haven't tried those because I learned long ago you don't go to a steakhouse and order chicken. If you're looking for solid chinese takeout this is your place, though. Recommended. read more

Delicious take out meal! The wonton soup is SO good, big wontons and lots of them! Could have used more broth, honestly. A must have. The egg foo young is awesome with savory gravy. Chicken and broccoli was fresh with yummy sauce - rich and dark with just the perfect amount. The fried rice was just meh. I didn't find the take out from this restaurant was any great shakes. I guess so many people ask them to make their Sichuan dishes mild that they are bland. It doesn't matter whether you order a beef, shrimp, chicken, or pork dish as they all taste the same with not much of the protein. read more

Found myself in Columbus, NJ, after a court appearance in Mt. Holly, the county seat of Burlington County. This building is right in the center of town and looks to have been a bank in the past. It is mostly takeout, but there are a few tables (mostly taken up by the owners' kids) for the brave souls who prefer to eat while the food is hot. The Sesame Chicken was above average. Although the amount was somewhat less than given in most other Chinois houses, the breading was not overly thick, and the sauce was actually pretty good. The Fried Rice was full of pork, peas and a few other veggie pieces. I liked the dish. Most appreciated was the curtsy to hospitality provided by the real plate on which the meal sat. It was a pleasant touch to get away from serving in-house customers as if they were taking lunch with them. I don't like eating out of Styrofoam when seated in the restaurant. The small extra cost of washing a few dishes is nothing compared to the sense that the other places really don't want you around. The front of the house woman was friendly and engaging as she watched over her kids and the shop. While Hong Kong Restaurant is still a Sino/American house with standard menu, their effort to provide a welcoming touch to their operation goes a long way. read more

Food is usually decent but there has been no AC this summer. The food has not been ready well past the time they said it would be (on several occasions), leaving several people standing in a 100 degree vestibule waiting for hot food. When I asked about my order, the lady yelled at me because, by asking her a question, I took her out of the kitchen, so my order wasn't ready. It was an illogical conversation in 100 degree heat that no one needed to have. There are a hundred Chinese food restaurants around here- not worth it. read more

With all the stellar reviews I decided to stop in recently and order sesame bean curd and a pizza roll. The family that runs the restaurant were all very kind and gave me s free can of soda. The restaurant was clean and decorated with handmade flowers crafted from beads. It was entertaining to study them and try to figure out how they were made while waiting for my food! I had high hopes for this restaurant but have to say I felt incredibly let down by what I received. The pizza roll I ordered turned out to be an egg roll- strike one! What was most disappointing was the bean curd. It had a water downed type sauce and the flavor was unlike any other bean curd dish I had ever tried. It had a weird flavor that just wasn't good. It was sort of a watery sour sauce that I couldn't really stomach. I'd love to try another dish and give them another chance but the flavor was so awful I don't really want to waste any more money here. Nice place but order at your own risk! read more

I usually go to Gold Garden in Columbus, but I thought I would give this place a try because of the good reviews. The food was phenomenal. Everything seems very elevated and not sloppy. Great takeout. There are some seats but purpose is more for taking out food. Favorite things I like from here include udon noodle with chicken (awesome), won ton soup (excellent and filled with plenty of won tons), won tons with garlic sauce, broccoli with garlic sauce, egg rolls and chicken with onions. Only thing I found average was the chicken sticks, meat isnt filling. Family owned with friendly people, accommodating and presents a great product. My favorite of the chinese takeout restaurants in my area (in terms of taste and quality). I like that they offer Pad Thai in addition to the usual Chinese fare. Prices are on par with most other Chinese restaurants. The owner is super sweet. They have coupons regularly, no crazy good deals, but nice nonetheless. Do not eat here. Found a chunk of hard, sharp plastic in my dumpling. Called the restaurant and the woman that runs the place asked me to bring it in. When I arrived, she basically told me that she didn't believe that it came from the food because it was too clean. I explained to her that I rinsed it off to see what the heck I had bitten! DUH! This small family business is outstanding! Other Chinese take-outs skimp on the meat or fish, using lots of batter. Not the New Hong Kong. There is very little batter and the shrimp are large.
