First time at King St Oyster Bar and I went for their happy hour on a Thursday. It was a packed house but thankfully I had a reservation so I recommend booking one in advance as the bar and tables were full. For drinks, I ordered the Froze which was delicious, sweet, and light but slightly watered down. For happy hour food, I had the shrimp bites, crab cake sliders, and fries. I highly recommend the shrimp bites! I would definitely go back for those. They had the perfect flavor and texture. The crab cake bites were super tiny so the buns slightly overpowered the taste of the crab cake. The fries tasted fresh and were a great addition to my food. Since it was packed, the service started out slow but my server was sweet and friendly once I was greeted and she checked in on my table several times. There was music playing throughout my time there which at times made it difficult to hear my friend speak. I was sat outside so when it started raining I did decide to get up and move seats... I know the restaurant has a process but I wasn't gonna wait for them to get to me bc they were busy. So I let my server know I moved and it was fine. This did make it so that I was charged a $30 more on my bill. Yall-- make sure you speak up! They had made a mistake. Was it my fault for moving? One of my favorite HH spots. It's always a good time and the vibe depends on the day and time that you come. This trip was a Wednesday at HH on a nice 70 degree day so it was pretty packed outside and got a little loud at times. We had Renee as our server and she was great. Super attentive, friendly, and timely even with all the customers she was serving. Other servers checked in on us to while making rounds. I got oysters, tenders, and crab cake sliders, along with a white peach margarita and some house punches. My friends ordered the HH shrimp, po' boy, more oysters, and too many drinks to count. I always have a really great time at this spot. The happy hour cannot be beat and runs on a daily basis--there's really something for everyone. Keep in mind that there is a 90 min table time limits for hh. The oysters and seafood always taste delicious and fresh. I usually stick to the crab cake sliders and oysters. You will find metered street parking in front of the restaurant and within a reasonable walking distance. The restaurant has a large patio area on the side and a small one up front. There is a full bar with seating and a decent sized dining area. As you would have guessed, the restaurant serves raw and fried oyster, calamari, crab cakes, lobster rolls, shrimps, salmon and scallop dishes. I placed my order online and ordered the fried oyster poboy which came with fries. I also got some hush puppies. When I got there i found a spot right out front and planned on just running in, getting my meal, and being on my way. That was not the case. Apparantly, they have to approve all online orders, which they had not done in the 20 minutes it took me to get there. So, they only approved my order after I inquired about it. They really need to fix that system. I thought I was saving time but, I ended up waiting there about 15 to 20 minutes. I would have expected that they put some urgency on my order after it was finally approved, but that did not happen. My food was between ok and good. I was not a fan of the hush puppies and could not finish them. They were not very good. The fries were decent, but some of them were overcooked. The oyster poboy was good. It may not have been the best that I have had, but I liked it. The cole slaw and bread really made it that much better. I have mixed feelings about this place. Pretty decent happy hour location in the city. Just don't forget that there is a 18% gratuity on your check. I will say that my margarita was very mid and I just end up switching over to the red sangria after the first one. My favorite dish was the brussels sprouts but the fried green tomatoes came in as a strong second. During happy time obviously the music is just right, but it is very crowded so don't expect to sit there and not have every table filled next to you. We were able to get seated immediately. The restaurant is definitely more casual than upscale and people tend to come here for happy hour after work or to grab a drink. We missed their happy hour which ends at 6 M- F but I ordered the fried shrimp po boy with fries and was pleasantly surprised. I very rarely order sandwiches but this one did not disappoint. The shrimp was fried and seasoned to perfection. Just the right amount of crisp. The bread was perfectly toasted and the filling was delicious. I do wish there was a bit more of the filling in comparison to the shrimp but not a major complaint. The only place of disappointment was the fries. Unfortunately, they came unsalted which was surprising considering how well seasoned the shrimp was but our lovely waiter brought over some salt and pepper. Would highly recommend this place! The deals include $1 oysters, $5 cocktails and wine, and food ranging from $5-$7. You can't beat these prices. I ordered the house mule to drink. It was pretty good. Maybe would of liked it to be served in a copper mug. For food, I ordered the shrimp bites and crab cakes sliders. The food was amazing. The crab cakes sliders were juicy and filled with lots of crab. The shrimp bites are a plentiful amount and so yummy. My friend who ordered oysters said they were very good and some of the best ones she had in awhile. For the table I ordered the mile high pie for dessert. Indeed it was tall! Since I have visited the King Street Oyster Bar in Potomac, I was expecting more or less the same experience at the one in DC. While there was nothing horrible with the DC location, I think that I'll stick to the one in Potomac. Before you open the second door to enter the restaurant, you are faced with a bunch of policies and rules. Just in case, you forget the rules/polices on the front the door, they are also listed on the door inside of the bathroom. Such rules include: -one check per table; -a 90-minute table limit; -you must use a card for all tabs; -a 20% gratutiy will be added to all checks; -you must have a valid & physical ID; -all to-go food must be consumed off the property. Ok, so most of these rules are (or should be standard) for many restaurants, I don't think that I've see so many actually printed out. However, I will cut the restaurant some slack about this, because these types of policies tend to be established based on prior experiences with less than exemplary customers. Upon entering the restaurant, there was bit of confusion. We sat at the bar, but I guess we sat at the section of the bar (right in front of the oyster prep station) that is served by a waiter instead of the bartender. The bartender quickly kind of explained it in passing, but it didn't make too much sense. After sitting at there for about 10 minutes, I went to the hostess stand to request some menus because our server never greeted us. I could understand if the restaurant was crowed, but there could not have been no more than 8 people sitting in the non-bar areas of the restaurant. Fortunately, a couple of people at the bar finished their meals, and we were able to take their spots at the bar. I'll say that JP, the bartender, was super friendly and really nice. However, I will say that sometimes it was a bit difficult to get his attention, but the bar was pretty crowded at that point. Once you get your orders in, the food comes out pretty fast. Unfortunately, there were a couple of occasions where the wrong food item came out. Normally this is not a biggie, except when the check arrived some of these items were listed on our check. For instance, when one incorrect dish came out, JP asked the bar if anyone wanted the dish, and we decided to take it (shoot, I was starving) thinking that it would be comp'd. Nope! the dish was right there on our check. Our plan was to just add the cost of the dish to the tip, but we decided to pay for it since it might have come off weird asking the bartender to remove multiple items. I was a little annoyed that the runner, who brought out the food (not JP,) made it seem like we made a mistake. Again, I wonder if his attitude was based on the fact that this might happen quite frequently. This slight hijinks aside, all the happy hour food was quite delicious. For our spread, we went with oysters, mussels, the crab cake sliders, and the shrimp bites. The prices for the happy hour are very generous with $5-$10 "small" plates and $5-$6 dollar cocktails, beers, and house wines. By the way, the plates are not that small, so the restaurant has a great value for the amount of food you will receive. Overall, the restaurant and restroom areas were pretty clean, so no complaints there. Also, I thought the layout of the restaurant was pretty accommodating. While our happy hour experience went well (for the most part), I thought it was interesting that the restaurant had a security guard during the happy hour. Ok, I've been to place with security, but normally they arrive during the evening, not around 5 pm. Again, I guess the owners have their reasons, based on previous customers' interactions, for having on-site security so early in the evening. read more

The Happy Hour is everyday from 3:00 PM-6:30 PM (90 minute limit per table). I made reservations for a Friday evening at 5:30 PM and I'm glad I did because there was line of walk-in guest waiting to check-in. The restaurant was packed and lively. We ordered: 5 King Street wings (buffalo style), Jax's 1 lb. mussels (skip this, since the mussels were small and I wasn't a fan of the flavor), bruschetta, KSOB house oysters (must order in increments of 3, we ordered 24 total), and from the kids menu: mac & cheese and chicken tenders.
