I tried to check in at the new location that just opened up next to Nguyen Loi, but it wasn't listed on Yelp yet. This review is for that location. I've never actually been to this Beach St. location, but I'm assuming it's the same owner? Anyways, I enjoyed my experience and would give it 3.5 stars if I could. I'll just round it up to 4! Staff - Very friendly and welcoming - Provided excellent service Cleanliness - Tables and the restaurant itself were clean - Provided sanitizer at the counter Food/Price - Portions are small for the price they charge - Very authentic Lao dishes and everything was delicious - Love the available sauces and authentic Lao comfort food they have for sale in the refrigerator We ordered Kow Piak (Lao chicken noodle soup - $9), Papaya Salad (Lao style - $7), Lao Sausage (2 pieces at $2 a piece), Jeow Mak Len (Lao salsa - $3) from the prepackaged food offerings in the refrigerator, and sticky rice (small order for $3). The broth for the Kow Piak was on point. A little on the saltier side (you can taste the MSG), but we enjoyed it. The noodles had the perfect consistency. The sausages were OK. It could use more lemongrass and spices. The papaya salad was solid. Authentic flavors that represented the Lao style (that extra funk!). I just wished they hand shredded their papaya instead. I wasn't a huge fan of the pho here. There is only one option and it comes with everything in it so I was unaware of all the meat that is in there. The beef was a little overcooked and wasn't that tender anymore. The broth lacked a little more seasoning and flavor. The sausages for appetizers tasted okay but were a little cold and had a rough texture. The restaurant itself isn't the cleanest of places, but the staff is pretty quick and your food comes out extremely quickly. I love HongThong. We have been coming here for years. You can find traditional Lao snacks and food. From papaya salad to lard Na to pad Thai. But of course my favorite is the pho. This is Lao pho so good. The broth is different than Vietnamese broth but I love it! I love a good Vietnamese pho broth but sometimes I crave the Lao broth as well. Okay so once in awhile I crave laos food. There's not that many laos restaurant because Americans can't take the strong taste. By strong, I mean really fishy or really spicy. But I can, because I'm Vietnamese and this Vietnamese girl can eat some REALLY spicy food. A friend suggested I go here for some papaya salad because its cheap and good. So I did, I got one papaya salad to go! SUPER SPICY PLEASE! They make it after you order so they dont have anything pre made lying around ready to be pack. It's so fresh! I've never been here before so I wasnt sure what to expect. There's a sign that says oriental market but when you walk in...there's just a bunch of dvds and a tiny restaurant. If you are looking to eat some good, inexpensive Lao food, you found the place! This place is also a small grocery store but when you walk in, you'll see that they have lots of tables for eating. Just let the owner know that you want to eat and they'll tell you to choose your seat and give you a menu. There's a lot of great things to try on the menu. My favorite dish would be the lard na, which is a flat noodle dish with brown "gravy" sauce. It's worth trying if you like noodle dishes! Some other favorites I would suggest are sukiyaki (clear noodle) and fried chicken w/ sticky rice. They also sell some food in the front of the store. You can just come in, grab what you want, and pay for it up front. They sell fried banana/fried taro, Lao sausage, fried chicken, and more! read more

I got a sample of HongThong Kitchen's Ground Roasted Chili Peppers from my mom. It's so spicy that I barely need much in my cooking. I wanted more, but there's no way I can go back to Texas during this quarantine to get some since I live out in the boondocks of Colorado. So I decided to send an email just to enquire if they would be so kind to ship me some. They didn't have an online store, so I wasn't expecting much. But I am completely blown away by the customer service at HongThong! Not only did they respond to me promptly, they worked with me to find a way to get all the sauces to me since mail service where I live is a bit tricky. I love to support small businesses with excellent customer care, so I decided to get some sauces for my cousin as well for her birthday. I asked them if they could write a little note in her package, and they went above and beyond. (Spoiler: she loved her sauces and note.) Not only that, they misquoted me for shipping prices and ended up paying the differences themselves, even when I insisted to pay. HongThong Kitchen, I have never been in your restaurant, but I'm definitely a huge fan. I am coming in to eat whenever I get a chance to go back to Haltom City, Texas. Found this gem of a place on yelp and did not regret the experience. I've tried 3 things from here: the pho, kow boun, and kow piat. The food looked and smelled so good as soon as I got it so I never got a chance to take a picture of the first two dishes. But take my word for it because this place is amazing. The food is so delicious and homey that I came here twice in a week. If you're looking for real authentic Laos food in all of DFW, this is the place. Easily my favorite Thai restaurant in DFW. Coming from a partially Thai family, this place also gets my mom's stamp of approval. Not only is the food incredibly cheap, but the quality of the food is as authentic as you'll get, just like the market at the Buddhist temple in Dallas. This place is very humble. I've never been here without the Special Friend since he speaks Laotian. I've never ordered or bought anything myself haha! They are very nice here and I don't really know if there's a menu or not.... They have a lot of food you can pack up to go, like fried chicken, Lao beef jerky, Lao sausage, and bunches of spices and seasoning. The fried bananas and fried taro are awesome! The tempura batter is greasy but it doesn't taste greasy. The combination of crunchy batter and soft banana or taro is perfect. The banana is the right amount of sweet. I love this stuff. We had kow piak, aka banh canh in Viet, aka soup cake in English. I think this is hands down my favorite banh canh. My friend makes the noodles and soup from scratch and I thought that was excellent but this broth makes the difference. The noodles are handmade here as well. It's made of tapioca and or rice flour and its chewy yet soft. So good!! The broth is thicker than usual and very flavorful!! I have to add hoisin sauce to any Asian soup I eat but this broth was so good, I didn't want to add anything to change the flavor. Well, except for a dash of black pepper. The noodles are slippery so it's hard for me to eat with chopsticks, but because the broth is thick, I ate the entire bowl with a spoon. It's PIPING hot and it stays hot for like 15 minutes!! I ate really slowly until it cooled down enough for me to inhale the rest. I don't prefer the coagulated blood so I gave that to the Special Friend. He adds the chili oil to it, I think, but I don't eat spicy foods. Special Friend encountered a family friend who ordered the fried chicken, papaya salad and sticky rice. It made me want some!! Looooove this place! My family and I have been to this restaurant for several years. It isn't anything fancy but it has some of the best Thai and Laotian food in DFW. The place itself is really small and only seats a handful of people. I'd recommend coming in at 11:30 a.m. or sometime after 1 p.m. if you want to sit down and eat. I usually order chicken Larb, fried chicken, and Pad See Eew. They also have Yen Ta Fo here that's pretty good as well. The larb is like a chicken salad wrap and it comes with a lot of veggies. The spice level here is pretty intense. Sometimes we order the papaya salad and ask them to make it not spicy, but there's always a hint of spiciness to it since they use the same mortar to make it in. We've also ordered it and asked for it to be a little spicy and I could barely eat it because it was too much for me. read more

I've always loved this place. It's your mom and pop type of restaurant. The service is friendly and the food is more than delicious! The owners are always here and they are really the only workers here. A cute couple who makes amazingly delicious Lao food. It's a very small space but don't let that fool you. This place gets packed with people looking for a great meal that reminds them of their own parents cooking. The interior is very simple. I've had almost everything on their menu. The papaya salad reminds me of my moms and the sausage and fried chicken is the best complement with some sticky rice of course. The kao piak (Laos chicken noodle soup) is fresh and hits the spot every time! Give this place a try and support local businesses! You definitely won't regret it. Just ate here for the 1st time today. Amazing!! Papaya salad is amazing and can order at your preference. They make it Laos style, so it's spicy not sweet. (Laos style is spicy, Thai is sweet with peanuts) Tell them how hot you like it. My mom puts 8 peppers in mine whenever she makes it at home and the owner obliged and made it the same way. I have been eating here for about 7 years. It is actually owned by my friends Aunt. The menu is simple maybe 10 items freshly made to order. I only have eaten a few things here the Pad Thai which, is my favorite in the US. It is not for the American palate that is used to the slimy version you get in most restaurants. They also make Papaya Salad for cheap about $5. They also have home made sausage a little fatty but I love it and fried chicken. Drinks come in cans from the fridge and you have to ask for water. Menu ranges from $1-$7.95. If your looking for ambiance go somewhere else. If you are looking for good and cheap quality authentic Asian food come here. Service was great! We came in for papaya salad and sticky rice to go. $5 for a healthy portion of papaya salad that was freshly prepared with the right amount of seasoning and spices. A small open section of prepared hot food had about 5-6 items to choose from. This used to be our favorite place. I love love their papaya and everything else there. The reason I only rated 3 stars because we felt cheated. They don't put the prices on any dishes.
