I was pretty excited to try this place due to the reviews and the fact that it looks like a legit hole in the wall. Prices are fantastic in this day and age and having rice rolls/banh cuon is awesome. We did pickup so can't really give an in depth review of the interior but from my brief walk in and out, it looks like the place could stand a cleaning or two (or five). Service was efficient. Banh cuon was okay. Honestly pho was also just okay. It tastes like home cooking from the aunt that does alright but you'd much prefer your mom or your grandma's cooking. This is one of those old school (feels like it too) pho spots where you get in, order, and get out quickly. It's a no frills place that offers tasty bowls of pho at a very reasonable price. We got the Bo Kho which was full of flavor and the classic Pho Dac Biet. Both were pretty decent. Was in the area so stopped by for late breakfast/early brunch. Was surprised to see customers at 9:30 AM, but think it's common to have pho for breakfast in Vietnam. Had a large bowl of pho and a banh mi. The pho was really good and came out steaming. If you never had pho in the morning while it's in the 30s outside, I would really suggest you give it a try. The bang I was pretty good as well. The atmosphere was what some may consider a hole in the wall but I enjoyed these types of places. Everyone seemed to be regulars. We tried a bit of everything from sandwiches, to dumpling appetizers, and finally the piece de resistance Pho. Everything came out hot and ready in a reasonable timely fashion. Fresh vegetables, Thai basil, and plenty of bean sprouts were given for each appropriate meal. The broth for the Pho (which I think makes or breaks a good pho) was excellent! I'm almost reluctant to write this review, as Pho Hop is a genuinely great place, and I fear for the worst should it be overrun. It has a lot of history. Quite possibly the first place for pho in the area, starting back around '75, when the first Vietnamese started arriving in Fort Worth, after the fall of Saigon (now Ho Chi Minh City, but nobody calls it that). I've heard that in those early days, once the great big pot of pho was gone, the restaurant closed for the day. That's never happened on my visits, and now there is much more on the menu than pho. I've sampled other things, and can't complain about anything, but the pho is some of the best "true to form" pho in the area. This from my wife, who is Vietnamese. If I don't have pho, I will go bun (vermicelli). I like the charbroiled pork option. Stopped by Pho Hop for lunch and it totally hit the spot. The broth was super flavorful and the portions were big--I got the rare steak pho and it came out hot and fresh. My friend had the chicken pho and loved it too. The spring rolls were really good and came with that tasty peanut sauce. Service was quick and the staff was really welcoming. My small bowl of pho was $5 and Banh Cuon for $6!!! Amazing! [FOOD] I ordered a small Pho Tai Nam and Banh Cuon. I enjoyed my pho! The broth definitely tasted homemade. I did have to add some more sauces and spices to make the bowl to my likings but overall the base broth was very refreshing. I was also very pleased with the banh cuon. The first time I tried Pho Hop was back in 2016 and I was not impressed at all. This place only charges $5 for a regular bowl of pho, so I had to check it out. The pho was mediocre at best and the service was just OK. If you drive a nice car, I recommend being extra careful because there are pot holes everywhere. Fast forward to 2019. We normally go to Pho Hung for pho, but ever since they raised their prices, we stopped. I find it hard to pay $10 for a large bowl of pho. Not going to take my cookies like that! With that being said, we recently decided to give Pho Hop another try. They only charge $5 for a regular size and $6.50 to $6.75 for a large, depending on the combination you get. The pho broth is nothing special. Nothing that makes you say "WOW" or rave about, but it gets the job done. For the price, I think it's a steal. If you dress it up with fresh basil, cilantro, lime, hoisin sauce, sriracha, and the house-made chili oil they offer, you will not be disappointed. The house-made chili oil has a kick, so be careful. I got the large pho dac biet and my wife got the regular size. They use quality meat in their pho and do not skimp out on it! We also ordered a side of banh cuon and it was pretty damn good. So good, we came back 2 days later for another round. This is going to be our go to spot from now on for pho. The broth is not the best I've ever had, but to each his own. The restaurant itself is definitely a hole in the wall type of establishment. The customers that we saw dine in seem to be regulars. The atmosphere is not every inviting. Your TRULY hole in the wall, mom and pop (in this case, i think it's just mom lol) shop, cheapest Vietnamese food you can get anywhere! From the outside, this place makes people want to drive away rather than stop by and try some food. But ignore the raggedy parking lot, crappy old looking sign "HOP" that resembles nothing of a restaurant(I wonder if it's the owner's name, or it means "box" in vietnamese lol), or a building that looks more than 50 years old. Give them a try and you'll be in for a surprise! I'm not sure how long they've been here, but their menu prices look like they are from 15-20 years ago. You can get a hefty meal for 2 (for us that means 3 entrees lol) for just around $20. Everything I have eaten from here (banh cuon, pho, hu tieu my tho) has been good or better than other restaurants in the area. The restaurant seems to be owned and run only by older Vietnamese ladies, who are surprisingly very nice and and friendly (they actually expressed interest and curiosity about my back piece, instead of the usual judgmental look I would get when go to Vietnamese/Chinese establishments lol). I mean... are you here for the food or for the hygiene? Food wise, this is the best pho location within haltom city. It's a hole in the wall with like 5 parking spaces in the middle of nowhere. Surrounded by Mexican stores and hair salons. The pho is the best, the flavor and aroma is delicious, meat is good, portions is good. Very authentic since the people working here went to Vietnam and came back with improved recipe. Cheap pho for $6.25 for a large! The bun bo hue is a hit and miss: if you order in the morning/afternoon it will not taste good because the meat will still be hard and chewy. When the meat is cooked correctly, it is the best bun bo hue! I recommend coming around 4-8 pm for it. The rest of the food is a bit average, I don't recommend the rice plates because you can get it at another location that's close by. The banh cuon is pretty good, she makes the rice paper herself and it's really delicious and has a nice texture. I love the smell of it, smells like home cooking! Now.. for the actual place and hygiene... probably a 3/5. Place is old, tables always look unclean chairs are broken, booths are ripped. The utensils have to be cleaned with paper cause they'll still feel very oily sometimes. Don't go to the restroom, looks like a horror story. The fans are on but it is Texas, and the place will still be very hot. I do like the photos and artworks around the building, very nice paintings. If you want to have a good experience I recommend togoing to sitting far from the kitchen. Sometimes I see nose picking and then make your food with it. But it is an open kitchen unlike other restaurants: maybe they too pick their boogers and make your food but you don't know. This place has been here since 1979. How have I never heard of this place before. My friend Lisa is a regular here and recommend it. I'm pleased to say I was not disappointed! If you're looking for chicken pho you won't find it here. They serve a more traditional, home-style type of pho. Definitely comfort food. I also had the rice moon plate and at first I was intimidated, but once I tried it, i couldn't stop eating it! I don't know how to explain what it is, but it's really delicious! It gets busy during lunch and on Sunday afternoon around 1pm. They don't take credit/debit cards, so bring cash. The owner is usually the nice woman who will help you at the cash register. I ordered a small pho and a large banh cuon (Vietnamese steamed crepe). The pho was actually very good. The broth tasted clean and their meat had fresh beef flavor. I'm glad they had a small size because I wanted to try other items. I would say this was one of the better pho I've had in America. The banh cuon was good as well but not anywhere as fresh as Banh Cuon Thang Long. I did like the filling though, great flavors from the ground pork and mushroom. I also liked their Vietnamese ham that came with the banh cuon, it wasn't dry. It was a cheap and delicious bite.
