I used to come here when I was younger. All I remember was, it was cash only and noting of any food items was really made an impression. But, recently we saw a video of an "influencer" who went to visit and made me think if there's anything new that I can right home about. For being vegetarian, you can pick from tofu or veggie pho, and if you want both, there's an extra charge of $5.00. All the places I've gotten vegetarian pho from have included tofu. Ordered 2 Banh Xeo with pork and it delivered that nice and crispy texture - but the banh xeo itself and nuoc mam was missing all the flavor. It appeared to be just the batter itself with some onions, bean sprouts and the pork in the banh xeo. It was missing the mung beans and green onions that really would've added a more authentic flavor. The dish could've been saved with a good nuoc mam (Vietnamese dipping sauce) but theirs lacked any fish sauce flavor and didn't have chilis in it. It just tasted like water with shredded carrots and a very small rémanence of fish sauce. Only one kind of herb was given with a side of 2 leaves of lettuce. A young girl serviced us and it seemed like she didn't really want to be there (which she probably didn't) and the restaurant felt a bit dark and gloomy sitting inside despite having beautiful weather out that day. Felt like restaurant also could've been a bit more clean and less cluttered. I admit we do have pretty high standards when it comes to Vietnamese food since we're Viet, but this kind of tasted like a bare minimum rendition of banh xeo and the vibes definitely felt a bit off sitting in there. So this restaurant is unfortunately hidden away compared to some of the other vietnamese options in Haltom city, but you would be heartbroken if you missed this place. A cash (and now Venmo) joint, Tu Hai has some of the crispiest Bahn xeo in the area, perfectly crisp and filled with shrimp and pork. If you've never had these delicate crispy pancakes, you're missing out. Use the lettuce and cilantro as your "taco" and chow down with some fish sauce for a great comforting meal. I didn't think I could finish 2 of them, but since they are so thin and crispy I think most people can manage. We also shared the traditional spring rolls, which were exceptionally fresh and soft. My friend had the stir fried chicken with rice, and it came out incredibly hot, and the veggies still maintained that lovely balance of cook that yields a slightly crunchy broccoli. Price-wise, this place is a deal, with great dishes, a startling large menu, and run by some awesome people. I'm glad they've started to accept alternative payment modes, as remembering to get cash is always an issue with me! I used to eat here often with my dad when I was a kid. For the past 30ish years I've gone here even though the service was spotty from time to time and the food wasn't as good as usual. Unfortunately yesterday will likely be my last visit. I walked in a no one greeted me, much less acknowledged me even though there was an older gentleman collecting plates from an empty tables walking around. There were several other people standing near the front door waiting for to go orders or to pay for their meal. After 6 minutes of staff walking back and forth from the kitchen but not acknowledging us, I went back towards the kitchen and asked if someone could help us. I was told to wait 5 more minutes. A young woman comes out the back and goes directly behind the counter and starts asking who needs to pay. I wait for my turn to order my to go order. My food was ready in less than the time I waited to get my order in. Sadly the spring rolls were hard and had soggy noodles inside. Seemed like they were from a previous day and just refrigerated. My fried veggies with chicken and rice was extremely salty, greasy and with whole garlic clovers that weren't throughly cooked. This restaurant is a far cry from what it used to be. read more

This place has the BEST tasting pho I've ever had. The broth is so flavorful, the meat perfectly tender. The lemongrass chicken is another favorite of mine, it's one of those things that fills me up, yet I still crave more because of the flavor. Something that I've only found here that is also very good is something called a Saigon pancake- it's kind of like a taco filled with beef, shrimp, and sprouts, then fried. It may sound strange, but it tastes delicious! I can also recommend both the egg rolls and spring rolls, and any of the fried rice. Yummy! Besides all the wonderful food, the people who run the restaurant are very friendly and welcoming and strive to make your visit a good one. HIGHLY RECOMMEND! read more

Got takeout through Doordash. This food is SO GOOD. I come to Fort Worth quite often for work and I am absolutely ecstatic that I found this place. Got the egg rolls, shrimp spring rolls, chicken soup with bean thread noodles, and tofu curry rice. (I thought yelp said this was a small plates place so you can imagine what my face looked like when all this food arrived.) So be aware, these portions are huge. (Rolls come in threes.) Even better, it is so inexpensive, you will get the best bang for your buck. Starting with the appetizers, the egg rolls were nice and crunchy, but not oily by any means. Comes with fresh cucumber and lettuce which I like to wrap with a Vietnamese egg roll. Shrimp spring rolls were done the right way. Not too much of any ingredient. A good balance of veggies to meat to noodles. The sauce had good flavor and consistency. Again, nothing overpowering each other. The tofu curry had a nice mild spice level, but you could still tell it was spicy. Oh my goodness, I could not stop stuffing my face. The tofu soaked up the curry getting all of that flavor, and if you mixed it with the rice and crunch veggies, you have a perfect bite. Last, but not least, was my favorite. I prefer bean noodles over rice noodles but not many places offer it. I was THRILLED when I saw this on the menu. The soup is so flavorful. You can taste the different spices melding with the ginger to create an incredible harmony of yum. The shredded chicken with cilantro, crispy fried onions, and bean sprout was so....I don't even know how to describe it. It was that good. Think of how when Homer from the Simpsons starts dreaming of donuts. That is my face when thinking about this broth. So, TL;DR, get your Vietnamese food fix here. You won't regret it. Location! Location! Location!!! I shouldn't have to circle a place 2-3x in order to find it! It makes it a bit aggravating and puts off my appetite a little. So I came with a friend for lunch. I had high hope for this place. But I was the only Vietnamese person there, besides the workers. So.... yea. The eggrolls looked delicious at first. I bit into one and found it to be... meh... and it was expensive too. I ordered grilled pork with rice and it came with fish sauce. The fish sauce was pretty strong and not light enough. and it came out with a tiny bit for my plate of food. My friend got the eggrolls and vermicelli noodles. It had quite a bit more greens filled on the bottom than what I care for. Many of the reviewers have been dining here for years. Tu Hai is located in a strip center off on Belknap and Beach Street. It sits next to a Radioshack and a Cash advance place. This place is CASH only, but we went prepared! This place was busy and small. Tables only, so I wouldn't bring a group here. It was just simple and nothing fancy. You can tell it has been around for years and is family owned. There have a lot of menu items, but it's pretty simple. I got the small pho with steak and spring rolls. $5 for a small pho and $7 for a large, can't beat that! My husband got the large. I liked the flavor of the Pho. The Spring rolls were good as well. The broth came out straight up dark brown. Looked like beef broth out of a can. I put hoisin sauce in it and it didn't change color. That's weird. I knew then it was canned. Delicious hidden gem for some grerat pho. My fiance and I are super critical of our pho because we have tried all kinds of place throughout DFW and Houston. This was definitely one of our favorites! It's a pretty small space, but they are complying well with COVID-19. Everyone is spaced out and the employees wear masks the whole time. Service was super fast as any Vietnamese restaurant usually is. It looks family owned, so we will continue supporting this small business. If you go, make sure you bring cash to pay with. Mmmmm... this place reminds me of being in HCMC (yes, the real deal Saigon). From the kind of industrial feel of the neighborhood to the random interior of the restaurant, this is the real deal. All they need is to accept Dong and have a dozens of motorbikes parked outside and I'd be confused. What does it for me? The bahn xeo (aka Saigon Pancake). I'd describe this as one part egg crepe, one part savory pancake, one part lettuce wrap. Delicious... but definitely ask them to show you how to eat it if you aren't with someone in the know. Trust me, it's better that way. I'm told their secret is the pan. Yes, the actual pan. Bahn mi is good, but not great. I'm picky and while it's better than most in Fort Worth, I'm convinced there are better out there... I just have yet to find them.
