Honolulu Dermatology is by far the best dermatologist's office I've been to, and I've been to quite a few. Making appointments is ridiculously easy and they are flexible, which is important to me. Dr. Gill is very knowledgeable. She answers all of my questions and addresses my concerns throughly, even if they (at times) feel silly. Dr. Gill helps me talk through the different skin care options until I find one that best fits my needs. Her husband Shad runs reception, and is always warm and welcoming. He makes scheduling the next appointment simple, and makes sure I get reminders when an appointment is coming up. Dr. Gill is truly an exceptional dermatologist. She's like no other. She's professional, knowledgeable, personable, empathetic, patient, extremely caring - the list goes on. You know how every time you go see a doctor, you feel like either (a) you're being rushed out of the doctor's office or that (b) the doctor's diagnosis of your condition is a very generic one that he/she has probably given to the last 10 patients who came before you? Well Dr. Gill is one a kind because she is neither of the above. The times I went to see her, I had A LOT of questions in relation to my skin and she was just so patient. Her responses were never vague or condescending. In fact, unlike other dermatologists I've encountered, Dr. Gill's responses were elaborate and thoughtful. There's an easiness about her where at times I would forget she's a dermatologist but rather a friend who genuinely wanted to help with my skin. I first went to see Dr. Gill for a pretty severe outbreak/rash on one of my cheeks. Prior to seeing Dr. Gill I went to see two other dermatologists and they both diagnosed my condition as some form of atopic dermatitis (wrong) and prescribed me steroid cream (which actually made my condition worse). But then I found Dr. Gill, and she just blew me away. I was in a pretty bad state (both mentally and physically) at the time - the outbreak on my face had gotten so bad I didn't want to leave my house, coupled with the hormonal acne I'd been dealing with on and off for two years since having my first child. It turned out I had an infestation of mites on my face, which is very different than dermatitis. I was prescribed two doses of ivermectin, along with some topical medication, to eliminate the mites. Dr. Gill, while managing my expectations, was very honest and upfront with me, which I very much appreciated. Rather than sugarcoating things, she said it'll take about 3 weeks before I'll see improvement and that it'll get worse before it gets better. And she couldn't have been more accurate. Long story short, even though the results weren't instant, my skin is all better now. I honestly believe had I not gone to see Dr. Gill, I wouldn't be given the proper diagnosis but instead be given steroid creams because that seems to be the default these days. Even now that my skin is back to normal, I'm still using the skincare that Dr. Gill recommended me during my first visit with her. I'll forever be grateful to Dr. Gill because she gave me my life back. Dr. Gill's husband, Shad, is just as phenomenal, and together they make one heck of a team. Shad works at the front desk, but honestly he is so much more. He's the first person you see when you step foot into the clinic and you can count on him to greet you with the warmest smile. There were a couple times I brought my two year old with me - he not only made us feel welcomed but he also had toys for my daughter to play with! Because I actually don't live in Hawaii and visiting Dr. Gill in person isn't always feasible, when I had follow-up questions weeks after my appointment, I would email Shad to then pass onto Dr. Gill, and the responses were always prompt. Just goes to show how caring and dedicated they are to each and every one of their patients. I honestly don't think words alone can do them justice. Dr. Gill is seriously a miracle worker! A few years ago I got these big dark sun spots on my face that I hated, and other laser skin places told me if they tried to remove it it would probably get worse or darker because my skin tends to hyper pigment and scar easily. I tried so many remedies and nothing worked. When I found Dr. Gill, she removed a skin tag near my eye that I had been embarrassed about for a while, and I didn't feel a thing. It was completely quick, painless, and left no visible scarring, so I trusted her when she said it would be easy to reduce my sunspots. She numbed the skin and burned the sun spot areas. It was supposed to heal in 4-5 days, but I tend to heal slower, so it took about 1 week to heal (it looks scary in the interim, but don't worry, it will be okay). After just the first treatment the dark spots are almost completely gone. I was careful to follow directions but should have been even more careful, because some of the deeper scabs came off after 5 days and left pink unhealed skin, whereas some of the others left perfectly smooth, healed, even-toned skin. Anyway, I LOVE it. Just 1 treatment and it's almost totally gone! (heart emojis) Although I had a wonderful experience in the office, I actually waited until it healed to write the review to make sure the results were 5 star, and they are! She is a life-saver. I trust her, too, because she is a medical doctor. I would highly recommend NOT going to an esthetician, but going to Dr. Gill. She has so much more education, knowledge, training, and expertise. She knows her stuff. She is also kind, personable, and authentic. I like that she is a real person with you, and shares some about herself, too. I also love that she never exaggerates the results, and is very cautious to never over-promise. I think she under-promises and over-delivers, so the results have been better than I expected. Because of experience, I now trust her 100%, and I am a cautious, skeptical academic. On a side note from the actual skin treatments which are the most important part, I love the chique style of the office - it's extremely clean, sleek, white, contemporary, with original art on the walls. It has an Apple-esque aesthetic vibe, which I really like. And Dr. and Shad Gill are awesome people - very kind, efficient. I like that everything is modern, efficient, paperless except for notes she gives you which is more convenient to have in hand. They're great. I highly recommend Dr. Gill. In fact, I cannot recommend her enough. After I'm done with the sunspot treatments, I may try micro-needling next if I feel brave enough, as I have large pores on my nose. read more

Was very comfortable with Dr Gill from the start. She was obviously very knowledgeable, took the time to explain things to me in a simple straightforward manner. I always appreciate when doctors make the time & effort to educate rather than simply instruct patients. Office is brand new, has easy parking (huge bonus in HNL) and staff was very pleasant and efficient. Billing is direct to patient, BUT they provide all of the completed forms for you to simply send in to your insurance for reimbursement. It doesn't get easier than that! I've lived on island for two years and haven't had a dermatologist....until now. I called for an appointment for injectables and was able to see Dr. Gill the same week. The office is spectacular, easy to find, with plenty of parking. Shad, the office manager, warmly greeted me when I got there and check-in was a breeze. Her assistant, Tammye (sp?) was welcoming and friendly. Dr. Gill was very easy to talk to and discussed all of my skin concerns with me. Dr. Gill was amazing! I went into the office and I was 5 min late, which almost never happens, because I'm very punctual. I called ahead because of traffic and was assured my appointment was still on schedule and they said, "no worries, just be safe and don't rush." Well, of course I had time to spare because Dr. Gill had immaculately set up the room to deal with my cosmetic issue per my condition. The procedure took less than 10 minutes because of these preparatory considerations. She had already set up the room/medical instruments per my medical maladies. In fact, at the end I had 10 min left and she insisted, "you paid for time...so we can talk or not, up to you..."I choose to leave, but it was exhilarating to know a practitioner was not above me getting every dollar for every minute I paid for! The receptionist who made an appointment with you was super nice and they gave me a kind guidance on the direction. I already have my own skin doctors and one medical dermatology and this time I wanted to get some consultation from Dr. Gill for her recommendation. I have read all of reviews here but no one said about the charge for a visit. It was my surprise to know that I have to pay $150 for a visit, which will not be refundable or not credit to any treatment. The receptionist told me the issue was told to me on the phone, but I did not remember. It could be my fault who forgot about it? But somehow I did not feel good about the charge because I felt something is not right at the office, so i have left without seeing the doctor. read more

I first called another dermatologist but the closest apportionment was a loooong time away, and I was told I would probably have to come back first, once for the doctor to look at me and then another appointment to treat me. You know the drill, first a 5 minute appointment to look and the doctor goes "oh, that's a whatever", and then another appointment to have the whatever removed. I think Dr. Gill evidently schedules her appointments for 30 minutes so she has time to actually do something for you the first visit and you don't have to come back, this saves a lot of time for me the patient. The business model is that an office visit is a flat rate and they don't deal with the insurance but they do fill out the forms for you to mail in and a check for the covered amount will come in the mail to you later. I can see where this is very streamlined for the doctor and for the patient but it may not appeal to everyone. As one reviewer noted the charge is flat rate, not ala carte per issue, so if she can treat several things in one visit it is the same charge. So, make a list and knock them all out in one visit. For anyone who values their time this is worth it because you can make one appointment and not wait a long time because she's not seeing twenty patients in half an hour, just one. I suppose you might wait a little if the patient before you has a procedure that runs over but that's far better than the cattle call appointments at other places. read more

I first visited the office because they carry the sunscreen line that I use. If you just need products, you can go in and purchase them without seeing Dr. Gill or being her patient (products are listed on their website). I had a question about a sunscreen and she kindly suggested which one to use. When I had an unusual reaction to it, the office was very accommodating and allowed me to exchange it for another product. That experience prompted me to see Dr. Gill for some recent issues I've had. She patiently listened to my concerns, evaluated my skin, and made suggestions. I've seen many dermatologists in the past and they often did not take into consideration how sensitive my skin is, and my skin ended up being worse. Dr. Gill got a sense of my skin type and what products I like and which I don't, which informed her recommendations. While she could have pushed multiple products, she did not and also offered suggestions for more affordable drugstore brands. Other positives: the office is very welcoming and impeccably clean. There was no wait, and I was not rushed. The staff at the front desk is very patient and kind and quickly responds to emails. Dr. Gill also performs all of the procedures in her office. Most doctors offices make you wait, rush through your appointment, and are not available for follow-up questions. Not experiencing any of that, among the other things mentioned, make a visit to Dr. Gill a unique and positive experience. read more

I had just moved to Hawaii when I noticed a big bite. I didn't pay to much attention at first since it is a Tropical island. Unfortunately when I woke up the next morning the one bite turned into four as the week progressed the bites kept coming. I decided to go to a Dermatologist when I called the Straub Group for an appointment it took several calls to get through and when I got through they put me on hold for 10 minutes. Finally when I got to speak to the receptionist they told me I had to have a primary Doctor before I could get an appointment. After 5 minutes of explaining my situation she gave me an appointment for a month later. I explained the emergency but that did not make a difference. I then googled for s dermatologist and got Dr. Amber Gill name. THANK GOD!!! When I called and explained my concerns they told me to come right over and they would fit me in. I was expecting to wait but Dr. Gill took me right away. She comforted and diagnosed the bites. I found Dr. Gill to be knowledgeable, professional and one of the best bed side manners I have ever experienced. She gave me medication and a week later I was so much better. Now a month has gone by and I am all cured. I have continued to be a patient for other dermatological concerns which she has also cured. I highly recommend Dr. Gill.
