Chocolate Cupcakes
Larene U.

I love them because they are a family-run business that specializes in desserts that are "not too sweet." For Asians this is a huge plus and they get 5 golden stars because every dessert I've got from them never disappointed me in being too much of a headache to eat. My favorite strawberry shortcake is from here and I always like to get it :). Their cupcakes are also delicious and do not give me that headache I usually get when something is super artificially sweet (you know what I'm talking about). Their baked goods they serve are great as well. I love their Korean Hotteok and buns that they sell. Definitely stop by their shop or check their instagram if they do pop-ups! :)

Always lots of choices, sweet and savory stuff. I usually try to go early because stuff gets sold out, but she was kind enough to say to message her if I wanted something for her to hold. Wonderful service and cute little bakery. Convenient in downtown.

Hotteok fresh and warm with yummy spices and nuts! After having it at the Korean Fair, I couldn't find anyone who sells them. Boom, you'll find hotteok and wonderful cake creations at Honolulu Rose. Special order a cake or get some ube cake for a treat! Located in the walkway between King and Richards streets near Alakea. A hidden gem for sweet tooth!

Pumpkin crunch

This is a small bakery shop in downtown Honolulu. It's in the hallway of the building so you'd have to go inside to see it. I stopped by here to get a treat for my coworker since it was his birthday. I got the pumpkin crunch for him and mentioned that, so the lady at the counter offered a candle, which was perfect. She even let me pick the color and gave me a bag. I got a mini cheesecake piece for myself. It was delicious. There is a rewards program you can sign up for at check out. It's quick and easy.

So we got 6 lemon and 6 strawberry cupcakes. The owner was very kind and able to make cupcakes for me on the same day I ordered! They were so cute and the owner even put buttercream on the bottom of each one so they wouldn't slide! For the cupcakes itself... Honestly they were really really dry and tasteless the day of, and pretty much all of my friends agreed... But for some reason the day after, we had leftover cupcakes and they tasted a lot better... ‍ Not sure if I'd order cupcakes again but I think I would definitely come and try their other desserts!

I stopped and enjoyed Honolulu Rose... Seeing...hearing...and been wanting to visit this shop after much buzz I was just super excited to have seen them being a part of the Food and New Product Show at the Blaisdell this past October 2023. Not to pass up this opportunity to sample their treats scanning it all and deciding was the real dilemma as they had Cinnamon Rolls (Original, S'mores, Oreo, Pumpkin and Ube), Cookies (Brown Butter, Ube Oreo and Strawberry), Cupcakes, Mini Cheesecake and Pumpkin Crunch Cake. With having a friend that just celebrated her birthday I decided to get a couple of Cinnamon Rolls...Ube and Pumpkin so I have no idea how they were but the first thing they said how beautiful they were and I do agree, and also grabbed a few cookies that were huge by the way...Ube Oreo and Strawberry. This moment...the phone was too slow to eat first sadly but that I can describe as the Strawberry had the absolute cute and dainty look as the pink blush cookie was dried in white chocolate sprinkled with some adorable pearl like confetti and was just the right amount of sweetness but it was the Ube Oreo that got the unexpected...woah from us...a friend that I shared it with lol! Amazing flavor done so beautifully and packed in a simple cellophane bag it held it's own solid without any breakage until consumed I just can't wait to visit their shop and see it all as this sweet little bougie place is a delight. Thank you!

Ube to go

Found this place by happenstance. Walked through a hallway simply because I wanted to see what was there. I bought the ube cake. It's the texture of tiramisu but with a creamy ube flavor. The girl behind the counter was very cognizant and aware. As I talked to my family about eating in the car, she asked if I wanted individual boxes and forks instead of a large box for all of our little cakes. She was also very personable. I think this is a family business and perhaps she's the daughter. Maybe the mom might have been the busybody in the background baking and stuff. If I'm ever in that area... I think their cakes are worth an extra 15 minute jog. Support them and maybe they can make more of what I like in a bigger place. That's what I normally think when I really like a place and that's what I hope for them.

Earl Grey Cheesecake (yum), Mango Cheesecake (yum), Strawberry Shortcake (good)

Another downtown gem that is worth your while! I absolutely love Asian style bakeries because they're not as sweet compared to American bakeries. We all know how downtown parking can be so your best options are either street parking or by the post office for an hour (or less if you're just grab and go). Her shop is located right across from the CPB building and in the same location as Allegrini Mozzarella. I came around lunch time so there was still a good amount of selections left. I originally had my eye on the Strawberry Matcha Shortcake but the person in front of me snagged the last one.....so I compromised by ordering three other cakes to fill the void... I got to try the regular Strawberry Shortcake, Earl Grey Cheesecake and Mango Cheesecake and I loved it all but much to my surprise, my favorites were the cheesecakes! I truly don't care for cheesecake because of how heavy it is but she somehow created the right balance; I was so reluctant about sharing it with my family (tbh I regretted it) I love that her flavors are so prominent! It's almost been a month since I last had it and I still think about her cheesecake. The prices may not be what most people are used to but for the quality, I think it's worth it. She's unfortunately not open on the weekends so it's harder for me to satisfy my craving so lunch breaks it is!

Strawberry cheesecake

My dear coworker bought me a strawberry cheesecake from here. This is a small bakeshop in downtown across from CPB bank. The strawberry cheese was very light, fresh, and delicious. This bakeshop is an Asian style so I am guessing that all their bake good are on the lighter side. I return here another day and tried their traditional Korean drink, Su Jung Ga. It's like a gingerly drink with cinnamon, jujube and pine nuts. It's more of a healthy drink like you would get at Lanikai juice. Very refreshing if you like ginger. If you work in downtown and need a good cake and pastries, this is a place.

So happy to finally be able to enjoy all the lovely baked goods! The oreo cinnamon bun, matcha cinnamon bun, biscoff cinnamon bun, cookie, layered cake slices, pudding. The list goes on! The bakery items are not too sweet and addictive. You can't stop at one bite. Prices are fair and not outrageous. The service is friendly and helpful. The store is located in the little alley way in a building throughfare. The shop is cozy and it's nice to have a yummy cake bakery in town. The layered cakes are multi layered soft goodness with fluffy cream mixed with fresh strawberries. You can't stop at one bite and have to continue eating and eating. This has become one of my lunchtime dessert fave!

Matcha strawberry shortcake
Vicky L.

Needed a cake in 4 days for my sister's birthday and they had no problem with the time! Easy communication, texted and gave all the details. Very nice visual. My family loves strawberry shortcake, and matcha, so I just had to order their matcha strawberry shortcake flavor! I asked for cherry blossoms drawn onto the chocolate to give the cake a bit more color, but they came out a little messy. It's okay, it wasn't ruining the cake or anything! There were little pieces of added edible gold which definitely elevated the whole look. Now to the actual cake itself. The taste was pleasant. Like a strawberry short cake with a TINY hint of matcha, unless you get a scoop of the cream with the matcha powder on it. Would've liked a stronger matcha flavor. There was too much cream and not enough strawberry. The whole cake was falling apart as you cut into it because there was just way too much cream within and on the cake. Very messy. It would've been nice to have the cake taped to the bottom of the box as well, since Chinatown/downtown has a lot of potholes and the cake was sliding all over the box.

I recently tried the strawberry matcha cake and Korean homemade pastries from here. Very good! Cake was light and fluffy. Korean pastries were simple but very tasty.

This is such a cute shop with tasty pastries and pudding. I love the original banana pudding which includes vanilla wafers and whipped cream. The chocolate is more of the same but chocolate flavored. It is an indulgence for me since they are a little pricey. My friends loved the cheesecake. The mother daughter duo is so sweet and a joy to talk to. I would recommend trying this place if you're in the area.

Good quality made fresh. I noticed that the cookies are crunchy on the outside. Chewy on the inside, the muffins are delightful, sweet and light. The bread is quite heavy in terms of weight but as you eat it, it taste light so it is very nice and filling and has a subtle mochi or tapioca starch texture, which I love, especially if you're going to toast The bagel or the bread. One of them is Honu Bakery (HB) where I've had a disappointing experience that kept me away. While breaking free from work to redeem my freebie from TMobile, I drove to KSC and saw HB as I was parking my car. Morale in the office has been low lately and decided to get some goodies from HB to brighten up the mood. There was a large selection of baked goods upon arrival and made a beeline to their famous turtle bread and noticed there are now 2 types: their signature buttercream of 22 years and ube, just launched on 5/9/2026. The vibrant purple color really caught my eye where I picked up 1 regular buttercream and 2 ube, where I also wanted to surprise my family as I was having dinner with them later that day. I paid for my purchase and although it was costly, I was banking to cheer up my colleagues and surprise my family. I sent a message via Teams advising my colleagues to enjoy the baked goods and received favorable responses. Many were happy for the pick me up and a handful of them commented on how delicious the ube turtle bread was. In the end, I noticed the ube version disappeared faster than the regular buttercream version. Later that evening, after our family dinner I brought out an array of desserts that also included the ube turtle bread. Favorite niece be default commented on the catchy purple color and many enjoyed the soft sweet bread snack. Service could have been better as staff seemed robotic and lacked customer service. HB lacked positive energy and disappointing during the checkout experience. Overall, a much better experience at HB where they are deserving of an update with a higher rating from me. The experience would have been better with more friendly staff to engage with customers over robotic staff lacking personality and interpersonal skills.
