First time here, apparently cup cake is their specialty. I'm really not a pastry person. But when I tasted the mint chocolate chip frosting....it was light and delicious. The cup cake was very moist too. We be trying their Red Velvet cup cake soon, one of their best seller. They been in business for 20years. If I recall....I think they won best cup cake on the Food Network. Located in Restaurant Row. Aloha, Derek

Baking up happiness... One thing that I have in common with Hokulani Bakeshoo is their hours of operations...sigh! So nabbing these treats has always been a struggle as the last time I was able to do so was when I had jury duty to ease the annoyance and it's been forever since then. Fast forward to tonight the first of the Taste of Aloha Night Market right on the lawn of Waterfront Plaza which will be happening every second Saturday of the month so hoping that will give me greater chance of the sweet treats. Loved that they had a combination pack though I just wanted the single $6 Guava and Red Velvet and decided to get one of each, love that it's packaged individually so it's totally shareable, the vibe at this market was quite crowded but with the music playing it gave it such a festive and fun night and hope they will be here next month as well. Thank you!

Located in Restaurant Row, near the bar area (The Row?). Their hours are limited to how quickly they sell out, we made sure to go first thing in the morning when they opened at 9am. This has been my only cupcake go spot because of the moist cupcakes and I don't get a reaction to their red velvet cupcakes. We were greeted and was cared for if we had questions. I am thrilled that they've made it thru the years.

I really love this bakery. I love this bakery so much that I had my birthday cupcakes made from here. What's nice about these is that the cupcakes are not too sweet so you don't feel that sugar rush after eating one. That probably means you should eat two. Anyway, the shop is small but has exactly what you need right in front of you. The cooler contains the cupcakes for the day, but go early as they run out! There are also bags of other snacks including shortbread, ranch, pretzels, and very cutely decorated cookies. They even have cards for purchase if you need to get a card last minute with your cupcakes. The staff is very friendly and very patient when ordering which is especially helpful for me because I never really know what I want because they're also delicious.

I've had hokulani's cupcakes a few times and always enjoyed them. My daughter requested to get her birthday cupcakes from here also, so I ordered the minis for her kindergarten class. Will order again when needed :)

It has been such a long while since venturing to this little bakery at restaurant row. We had a birthday at our office and needed to pick up something sweet. I volunteered to head to hokulani since it was convenient and the baked goods never disappoint. It's fun to walk into the store to see so many varieties of cupcakes, cookies and just random swag for sale. One thing that immediately struck me was the bakery was the same as 10 years ago but not. There were signs around the store with instructions such as which box will be used depending on the cupcake purchase etc. I kinda felt like possibility the store was asked some of these questions a number of times so they made signs. So off the bat I didn't want to ask too many questions about their products or make small talk. With the signs felt as though if they are tired of customers asking the same questions. But isn't that part of the experience? The person taking my order was nice and business like. I ordered seven cupcakes and two sprinkle cookies. The cupcakes were unique in flavor such as shaved ice and with old favorites such as triple chocolate, red velvet. I went to pay and the bill was almost $50. Sticker shock. The cookies were $4/each. That means cupcakes were over $5/each. The cupcakes were on the smaller side but super beautiful. They also tasted yummy but paying that much for 1 cupcake is a lot. Possibly overhead is high? I am all for supporting local businesses but prices for a cupcake are a little high. Also...possibly remove some of the signs. It really is about the total experience when buying from a store. Hope at some point they get back to the basics and realize it's about food and service.

Didn't realize how expensive my bag would be not a lot of selection on a Tuesday afternoon at 11:45am. Didn't feel too welcomed when walking in. Looks a little rundown as you walk in. I was so excited to go to Hokulani's. I was just shot down when walking into the bakery and felt uncomfortable. Macha cupcake was not so great at all it was hard and dry the frosting was great. Ube, Lilikoi, Guava and Red velvet always great tasting soft and delicious. It's just not like how it was before pre covid. Hopefully things will pickup for the bakery..

Hokulani Bakery is a great place to grab a cupcake for you or someone special. Their cupcakes are heavenly pieces of expensive little cakes. I LOVE Hokulani cupcakes because they are moist, tasty, and the cream cheese topping is delicious. I tried many of the different flavors and enjoyed each of them, but my absolute go to flavors would have to be their GUAVA, RED VELVET, OR SHAVE ICE CUPCAKES. Due to inflation, the cupcake prices have gone up and now they cost $4.75 each, but if you buy 12+ more it's $4.50. You must order in advance for big orders. They also charge for little props to add to the cupcakes if you're gifting someone. They usually sell out of cupcakes by lunch time, so it's best to go early. The little bakery is located on the ground floor of Waterfront Plaza on Ala Moana Blvd. and the friendly staff offer parking validation.

Pls preorder if you need cupcakes on Saturday!!

Omg!! The cupcakes are now over $5 each because I got 3 for $16.50 .... It's been awhile since I had them cuz I was so dissatisfied last time. Every time I come they taste worse. This is for sure my last time! I have a bad cupcake and then a year goes by and then I kinda forget about it and decide to return. But today I'm for sure making a mental note and it's sad cuz I swear these used to be the best. Customer service is still really good cuz the shop girl was friendly, quick and efficient for sure. The worst cupcake I had today was the carrot cake and the least dry was the salted caramel. Good bye Hokulani, I'll miss you but you're a shadow of your former self!

It's been years since I've treated myself to the delicious cupcakes that Hokulani Bake Shop offers. They're located in restaurant row at the Waterfront Plaza. Ever since the $1 movies shut down, I don't really go in the area so it was very nostalgic being there where I use to go catch a movie with my friends. Hokulani use to have a booth in the Pioneer Plaza where I would usually get a cupcake after work before I head back home. My favorites are and still the strawberry guava cupcake and their red velvet cupcake. I also picked up a few of their other flavors like their chocolate, carrot cake and ube flavors. The cupcakes aren't as moist as I remember them to be, but they do taste the same deliciousness I remember them to be. I'm usually not a frosting person and usually scrape the frosting off of cupcake, but with these cupcakes, I only wish they would add more. Their cream cheese frosting is top notch IMO. Definitely still one of the top bake shops on my list. I wish there were more locations. Definitely miss their location in Pearlridge Shopping Center. None the less, if you're ever in the area, definitely worth checking out their cupcakes.

    Happy Holidays!
    Lori L.

I never got over the cupcake craze. Come on, they're so cute! And unless you have enough people to eat a whole cake, single serving cupcakes mean you can indulge without having leftovers for a week. At room temperature, Hokulani's cupcakes are soft and sugary sweet. Red velvet is the most popular flavor, but don't rule out banana, lemon toffee crunch, or salted caramel. And if you're a fan of iced sugar cookies, they make those too. In totally fun shapes just waiting for you to bite their heads off. For yourself, or as a treat to share, make the trip to Hokulani.

$5.50 for this sad excuse for a cupcake.

Initially, the door was locked, but the owner Tara unlocked the door and asked if I was picking up an order. I said no, we were just looking around and wanted to see what cupcakes they had. Tara was super friendly and even though she was busy filling orders, she took the time to tell me what cupcakes she had available. I was initially going to get 4 cupcakes: 1 lemon, 2 strawberry, and 1 red velvet. However, after looking at her menu online and talking to her, I ended up getting a dozen cupcakes: 4 banana peanut butter cupcakes with honey drizzle, 3 Chocolate cupcake with Oreo frosting topped with an Oreo cookie, 1 chocolate cupcake with a peanut butter frosting, 2 Strawberry cupcake with buttercream frosting and strawberry drizzle, 1 red velvet cupcake with cream cheese frosting, and 1 white cupcake with lemon buttercream and lemon sauce drizzle. The cupcakes were super moist and they paired well with the frostings. The frostings were not overly sweet, which I really appreciated, and I could definitely taste the flavoring of the frosting. The peanut butter was my favorite and it paired well with the chocolate cupcake. I'll definitely be back to try some of the other flavors, or will request a specialty cupcake in the near future.

We ordered the Strawberry Panna Cotta, thinking that it was a parfait dessert or served on a plate. Though when the gentleman taking our order asked for the sweetness level, we knew it must've been a drink. And it did not disappoint! I've never had anything like this before. It was the perfect blend of strawberry on top, not too sweet, not too sour and the panna cotta smooths it all out from the bottom up through your straw. The gentleman working there was very friendly, very kind, answered all our questions. One being that they do not serve food/desserts here anymore because of the shelf-life and unpredictability of people ordering these items, I get it. He truly seems to love his job and it shows. Walking each order out to everyone, whether they're waiting inside or outside the shop, he's hustling, not sauntering around. Morale in the office has been low lately and decided to get some goodies from HB to brighten up the mood. There was a large selection of baked goods upon arrival and made a beeline to their famous turtle bread and noticed there are now 2 types: their signature buttercream of 22 years and ube, just launched on 5/9/2026. The vibrant purple color really caught my eye where I picked up 1 regular buttercream and 2 ube, where I also wanted to surprise my family as I was having dinner with them later that day. I paid for my purchase and although it was costly, I was banking to cheer up my colleagues and surprise my family. I sent a message via Teams advising my colleagues to enjoy the baked goods and received favorable responses. Many were happy for the pick me up and a handful of them commented on how delicious the ube turtle bread was. In the end, I noticed the ube version disappeared faster than the regular buttercream version. Later that evening, after our family dinner I brought out an array of desserts that also included the ube turtle bread. Favorite niece be default commented on the catchy purple color and many enjoyed the soft sweet bread snack. Service could have been better as staff seemed robotic and lacked customer service. HB lacked positive energy and disappointing during the checkout experience. Overall, a much better experience at HB where they are deserving of an update with a higher rating from me. The experience would have been better with more friendly staff to engage with customers over robotic staff lacking personality and interpersonal skills.

We chose their LITE Package, and it was the perfect option for our intimate wedding. It gave our guests variety while still allowing us to have a beautiful cutting cake. Everything was absolutely delicious! Our guests couldn't stop talking about the desserts, and we loved that there was something for everyone. The cake shooters, panna cotta, and cupcakes were all a huge hit. Our mango cutting cake deserves a special mention because it was incredible! It was so fresh, and flavorful that I'm still dreaming about it today. Not only was it beautiful, but it tasted just as amazing as it looked. The ordering process was seamless, communication was great, and everything arrived exactly as planned. Thank you, Kristin and team, for making our wedding desserts so memorable!
