Went out to eat for my son's B day at Mix Prime during the worst rain storm of the year! Luckily we live right up the block and had the restaurant pretty much to ourselves. Seen a lot of mixed reviews as every experience can be different depending on the day or current staff. My son ordered shrimp scampi and it was presented well. My son enjoyed his meal. The 2 rib eyes we ordered came out flaming hot. We asked for medium rare and my steak was cooked perfectly, but my wife had to ask them to put it in the broiler as it was still rare. No biggie. Sides of mash, mushrooms and creamed spinach were all very good. My wife enjoyed her mango martini and some other martini cocktail that I cannot remember. One hiccup my son noticed was his glass of water he had was dirty on and had some white oily substance floating at the top. At first I thought it was ice melting but when we looked at our other glasses we could clearly see there was something off there. My old fashioned was good and i got into the Halloween spirit and ordered a pumpkin old fashioned. Will not be doing that again. Was not a fan. Service was good. Everyone was polite. We came here for Christmas Eve. Plenty of parking in the lot. Google gps brings you very close but tells you go to the right before you turn into the parking lot. Turn left into the actual parking lot. The restaurant looks great and was decorated beautifully for Christmas. The whole staff we encountered were friendly and nice. There is a nice bar area if you don't want to sit at a table. The food was ok. Might have been an off night because it was a holiday. I had the Lobster Bisque which was a special on the menu. It had pieces of lobster meat in it which not all places do. My steak was just ok. I had the 18oz Rib Eye. It was cooked exactly how I asked and was very hot. It just didn't have much taste. The food was so-so delicious. Most of us had the filet mignon done at different degrees and every single one of them came out exactly as we asked for. The meat was cooked to perfection, tender, juicy and just delicious . All the side dishes came separately. We chose mashed potatoes, mushrooms, and asparagus. Each side is big. I picked this restaurant for their prime rib and the prices I saw when I looked on their website. Every single item was like 20% more than listed on their menu online. We ordered prime rib and after an hour and a half the waiter said he didn't put in the order and now they were out of it and we had to pick other steak options. Add me to the list of people who had overcooked steaks. Asked for my bone in ribeye blue/rare and it came out medium at best. The 2nd attempt was better but the sizzling hot plate is a real problem as it keeps cooking your steak. I sliced my whole steak and immediately moved it to the mashed potato plate once I realized. To be clear, this was a sponsored dinner program by a retirement professional. So, m expectations were already low due to the need to prepare so many meals over a short time. Three appetizers were provided: fried calamari was poorly prepared and aoili was horrendous. The bruscetta was just ok. Stuffed mushrooms were almost definitely prepared from frozen. The stuffing had some unrecognizable ingredients which were dry, rock hard and resembled the core of a baseball. The mushrooms just couldn't have been worse...one of the worst things I have ever eaten. The salad resembled airline salad with less taste and less appealing. The 12 oz sirloin was prepared medium rare, per my request but I needed to request a Black and Decker reciprocating saw to cut it. Thank goodness the meal was comped by the sponsor. read more

Disappointing experience that started out great but went downhill and never recovered. Came here for dinner on a Friday and it was not busy when we got there but picked up quickly. We were seated immediately, had drink and appetizer orders taken and both were delivered quickly. We also put in our dinner order (one ribeye, medium and two sides). The Jumbo shrimp cocktail was great. My rye old fashioned was not good...it tasted like Jack Daniels and coke, but since our waitress never showed up again I couldn't tell her. We finished our appetizers around 7:30 and figured the food would be out shortly. Then we saw two tables who came in after us have their salad courses and get their entrees and we still didn't have anything. Was looking for our waitress but didn't see her until about 7:55 when I asked her to check on our food (mind you, she hadn't been back to our table for almost 45 minutes at that time) and she says she just checked on it and it will be right up. I let her know that the table beside us that sat down after us was finishing their main courses. She apologized and said it will be right up. 20 minutes later, we get a well done steak and our sides. Both sides, mushrooms and fries, were great. The steak was really overdone, but since nobody bothered to come check on us and the fact we wanted to leave, we just ate it. Ribeye is fatty so ever overcooked it's not bad but there was no pink in the steak at all so parts of it were a bit dry. It was a nice cut of meat and properly cooked, it would have been great. When we were finished, she came and cleared the plates....didn't ask if we enjoyed it or wanted anything else so I just asked for the check. That was efficiently delivered. We noticed another table that came in about the same time as we did were getting their entrees when we were leaving, so it's clear the kitchen was having major problems. I get that, it happens and I'm not going to freak out about it but when that is happening, it's important to communicate with your customers, not just hide from them or ignore them. At least we could have ordered another round of drinks while we waited but that wasn't an option. Some guy who may have been a manager (he never identified himself) came with her when we called her over to ask for our food and he said he was sorry but that was it. Maybe I'm spoiled by eating in nice restaurants in the city, but a little effort (comp a side, offer a free dessert) goes a long way to make a customer's experience pleasant. Ignoring customers and avoiding them and not offering any communication is amateurish. To sum up, there was some good food here, but major kitchen timing issues, unpolished service, and lack of communication and follow up would be the reasons Mix would not be a satisfactory choice for another dinner. read more

Went here for an early Valentines Day dinner as I was traveling for work the day of. It was a fairly busy evening, not packed, but certainly not empty. Upon entering, we were politely greeted by the host, and lead to our table. We were then quickly greeted and served water and bread with a delicious olive oil dip. For an appetizer, we both had the French onion soup which was flavorful and nicely portioned. I ordered the seared tuna with noodles and baby bok Choi (see picture) - all was perfectly cooked, and delicious. I probably would have preferred a few more pieces of Tuna as I wasn't totally satisfied, but it wasn't a small quantity either. I may have just been hungry that night. My lady had the "surf and turf" special with NY Strip and a Lobster tail that was delicious ($70). All of the beef (I believe) is dry-aged for 40 days, and it was flavorful, tender and quite delicious (unfortunately no picture for that). Served with a side of garlic-mashed potatoes and string-beans/carrots. All in all, it was a delicious meal and a nice evening out. I'd come back again. read more

My son took us out to an early Mother's Day dinner to avoid the chaos tomorrow. He wanted to go to a steakhouse. I had my eye on this place for a couple years now. It was worth the wait! Place is spectacular. The service is amazing, the drinks were on point and the meal was fantastic! We started with appetizers. Oysters were super fresh served with two sauces and lemon wedges. The wine vinegar on the oysters added delicious flavor. BBQ wings were good. I couldn't sample the other items because they weren't gf, but my family commented how delicious the calamari was. This was our second visit to MIX. Some really high, highs and really low lows. To start the parking lot on a weekend evening is an absolute disaster. With two higher end, popular restaurants for the area, this needs to be a valet situation. A suburban parking lot should not be a source of frustration where I am looping around looking for parking like I am in the city. The hottest who was flustered and overwhelmed but very kind informed us that while we had a reservation, we could wait at the bar. There was one seat available behind a column at which we could wait for our table at. This would have been fine if it was for a few minutes. Unfortunately, nearly 30 minutes later - that was no longer the case. Finally seated we were greeted by a server who looked and spoke as if he would rather be anywhere but there. Not only a lack of positivity and enthusiasm, but service also lacked in timeliness. No offer of bread. No steak knives on the table before the food hit. Never came back to ask if we wanted more drinks and hand to flag people down for a simple refill of water. Food coming out in haphazard order. Quite frankly - the wait/bus staff was atrocious The decor is very solid. It is a relatively on trend restaurant especially for the area. A large but cozy restaurant. I love that you can see into the "kitchen" when you walk to the restroom. It is clean tidy and organized. The only knocks are semi-nit picky. We don't need a led candle and a mini lamp on our table. If you are going to have a 80" TV at the bar in your dining room and it is on, at least have it tuned to something and not a screen saver. The food was the saving grace. Quite frankly - significantly better than the first time we visited. The fried calamari was well prepared with a good ratio of crust. The chipotle sauce that it was paired with it is not traditional but a delightful twist. The bone in ribeye was excellent. Large cut, well cooked and seasoned without trying to do too much. A very solid steak experience. Plate is ripping hot - so when they say be careful- they mean it! Overall, I will go back one more time to see if I can MIX the great service from the first trip with the culinary experience of the second night. Bay Area to CT took our girl out here for her birthday last Wednesday (last night in CT). The service was good, the place is pretty big and spacious with options to eat outside. Started off with the Plumtini and I was hooked it was sooo good I had to ask the waiter what brands was used for this mix so I can try to concoct this myself had to order another of course. Between the three of us we shared the Fried Calamari- it was well flavored crispy and tender, Clams Casino was really tasty I liked it. The portion size for the 40oz Porterhouse for two with sides of Mushrooms and Mashed Potatoes was big. It tasted pretty good too. I really enjoyed the Seared Shrimp and Scallops lemon risotto dish the most it was made and cooked perfectly. The dessert was really good too we ate it all. We have to ask for everything repeatedly and they weren't even that busy. Our food came out quick but nothing wash fresh and for the prices you would expect higher quality food. Bread was cold, burrata was ok but nothing special for the price. The prime ribeye came out a mess. It was 50% fat, yes I know a ribeye has more fat than a filet but $45 I'm not eating a slab of fat. The plate was dirty and covered in grease. We ordered medium and every piece was cooked different. The waiter spoke to us as if we were stupid and didn't know how to cook steak. Each table has beautiful white cloths and you are greeted right away by staff. I love that this restaurant starts you off with fresh made bread with very delicious garlic roasted oil- YUM! I really enjoyed it can you tell? Haha ... for dinner I went with the seared shrimps and scallops with vegetables and risotto. The sauce, shrimps and scallops were plump! The risotto ehhhh it was alright to be honest. I found it bland a little rougher than usually in texture. I feel that they could have done more with that. Then finally dessert! Upon arrival I wasn't too sure with very little acknowledgement from the host who never cracked a smile. However, she'd nothing to do with our meal.
