This place is cute, with probably 20 flavors to choose from, of delicious ice cream from Wisconsin. Feels very country cozy inside (lots of wood and such). You can get a cake cone, a small waffle cone (NOT a sugar cone), or a large waffle cone. Or cups (no lids for the cups). I saw the price of the cones, but I wanted to treat myself, so I got the small waffle cone with Mint Chocolate Chip. The employees were very nice and I had my cone quickly, and I took it to the car (no inside seating). The flavor was perfectly fine, but nothing to write home about. Better than a grocery store ice cream, but it didn't roll my eyes back in my head. The cone felt fresh and hand-made. It was a nice treat. Would I come back? Nah, probably not. This ice cream joint was very good. I was hoping they would tell a story that all ice cream was made there but they get it shipped in from Wisconsin or somewhere up north. The waffle cones aren't right off of the grill like some places but the ice cream was very good with tasty choices. This is a must in this sleepy town without much to do or eat at that is great. It's a cute little ice cream shop with plenty of flavors to choose from. Their portions are nice size! The cashier behind the counter was very friendly. This was a great local place to stop in and grab ice cream on a hot spring day. At the time we went it wasn't busy and so it was very quiet within the establishment. We decided that we wanted to try this place so at our dinner restaurant, we skipped dessert. I am glad we did. The ice cream was very good. I had a scoop of butter pecan and a scoop of the caramel praline. They were both delicious. I was hoping to learn that they made all their own ice creams, but they said they were made elsewhere and shipped in. Not sure how you can claim "homemade" when they aren't made there. My ice cream was great! However, my fiance is allergic to all nuts so we had to ask about the "Candy Craze" since it is just written on the glass, not a sticker. The woman proceeds to say the ice cream does not have nuts. So we go on and pay and head outside with our ice cream. My fiance immediately realizes there are nuts in it after his initial bite. We throw it out and he begins to have an allergic reaction, so I run inside for water and let the woman know the ice cream has nuts in it for HER information and proceeds to make me pay for water with only words of sympathy. Great ice cream, though, aside from my fiance almost dying. read more

I'm not sure how many times I drove through Palatka without even noticing Hoot Owl (probably a couple dozen times over seven years?), but after seeing it & then staring at it for a few passes, we finally stopped by. The ice cream is delicious -- the Butter Pecan had a nice, buttery aftertaste; the Pecan Praline is in a maple base; Birthday Cake has a sugary swirl of blue frosting; and the standout was This **** Just Got Serious, which is a salty/sweet combination of salted caramel & cashews & chocolate. On top of that, the menu when you go through the drive through is a handwritten sheet of notebook paper (they write it out every morning, as the flavors are constantly changing), and the staff person who helped us was just as sweet as the birthday cake ice cream. There isn't a whole lot going on in this town of Palatka, and we almost made the poor decision of hitting up the local Dairy Queen. I'm so glad we decided to Google ice cream shops to see if there was anything local. We stumbled upon Hoot Owl, and I thank the heavens above for making me go there. I went with the salted caramel cookies and cream and oh my! So creamy, so delicious! I was legitimately sad when I was done with my cup. I really wish they could ship their ice cream. Visited Palatka to see the Azaleas a Ravine Gardens SP and was heading back when I spied Hoot Owl on the side of the road. I wanted something sweet so I stopped in. The interior was nice, nothing ultra-modern or anything. What set the experience apart was the service. The young lady behind the counter was very enthusiastic and friendly. She made recommendations provided samples explained where the ice cream came from, etc. I was impressed. After trying a few I decided on the "Heaps of Love" which was a flavor that included the ingredients of a bunch of other flavors that I liked. The ice cream and service were great. The girl working, Emily was a true gem. She was the only one working and she had so much patience with each individual group. She waited on us and the ice cream was so good!
