Hoover Quote for over $2000 of things that wouldn't fix my issue.

Absolutely terrible experience. I called this HVAC company for what should have been a straightforward refrigerant issue, but they barely looked at the system before jumping straight to a quote for over $2,000 in new USELESS components. No meaningful diagnostics, no simple checks, no effort to confirm the actual problem. Just a fast, expensive upsell. After doing my own homework and a simple YouTube video I found the issue myself (a leak around the cap) and recharged and fixed it for $225. That tells you everything you need to know about their honesty and competence. $1200 for 2 lbs of coolant!! (This costs $150). $461 for a $25 capacitor and contactor $415 for a foam spray cleaning of my outdoor coils ($15 can of foam!) OVER $2000 AND IT STILL WOULD NOT HAVE FIXED MY PROBLEM! A simple brass cap that's less than $1 was the cause of my leak. This company either doesn't know what it's doing or assumes customers won't question the first expensive answer they hear. Either way, I would not trust them with my HVAC system. If you value fair pricing, basic troubleshooting, and not being taken advantage of, look elsewhere.

    What need to be repaired

Hoover Electric, Plumbing, Heating and Cooling has excellent customer service: a human answers the phone (no phone menu or texting you a link), and they will schedule an appointment within a few days or less. They followed up with a text and email. They provide a dispatcher contact number to check on the ETA of their salesperson (not a service person) arriving. HOWEVER, be prepared for the salesperson to try to manipulate you (ex. What I am going to say is not as a salesperson, but as a "friend") into having more work done than is necessary and at a high price. I wanted them to replace the anchor that held up the DTE electric wire because a tree limb had fallen on the wire and pulled on the electrical wire anchor, which damaged the trim board next to the anchor. Part of their game was to tell me they could not just fix the problem I wanted fixed, because they would be liable if anything went wrong later. However, they were willing to replace all the electrical cable running from the anchor connection to the meter box and replace my electrical panel inside the house so it would meet "current code." My house is 30 years old, not an old historical home that might require a major electrical upgrade. Yup ... they were willing to rewire most of my house. The estimate was $10,536.59. I also asked them to replace 3 smoke detectors. After the friendly, nice salesman left, I checked Google reviews and Yelp reviews and discovered Hoover is known for this strategy. I canceled the project first thing the next morning. Then another person called and asked if, if they increased the "manager" discount, would I be willing to let Hoover do the work. I replied Nope. Then this friendly, nice person told me he agreed with some of the political comments I made to the first salesman, hoping to soften me up. Nope, didn't fall for that one either. I contacted 2 other companies and got estimates for fixing only what I requested (wiring outside of the house and smoke detectors),the company I hired charged $1,150. I took the time to write this lengthy review as a PSA (Public Service Announcement), so others will be very cautious about hiring Hoover. Once I canceled, they did return my 50% deposit promptly, minus an $89.00 service call. So I had to pay $89 to allow this unethical scamming company to come into my home and try to fleece me. FYI: I live in a working-class community, drive a 2013 Hyundai (which he saw in my garage), and I am a senior citizen; it is not like I was living in an upscale community with money to waste. I wonder how people like this sleep at night. Lynn H Waterford, MI

Blake is quite an asset to your company. I couldn't be more pleased with his service. He was professional, quick, and very informative. I truly enjoyed listening to not only his diagnosis of my furnace, but everything that Hoover can provide, including electrical, plumbing, vent cleaning, etc. He explained the maintenance program, but was not pushy in anyway. Blake went over a multiple step inspection list that covered everything about my furnace. Items I wasn't even aware of. Excellent employee. I'm very much looking forward to working with Hoover with all the services they offer. Thank you, K. Obrien.

Sealing the hole in our house wall is our weekend project! GFCI that solved our electrical problems.

The city of Troy tasked my home with a Backflow Testing request. This company was listed on the back of the form that I needed filled out. I called BBP up and spoke with Martha about what the heck this task was that I needed to have done! She explained the entire process of what someone would be coming out to do. Within the week we had someone come out to do the backflow testing. When Tom arrived, he explained that he had been in the business for a long time and made me feel comfortable that he knew what he was doing. I asked to stay outside with him as I was curious as to what he was going to do, and he agreed to allow me to watch. It was $100 for the testing and $20 to come in the house and show me where the valve was to turn off, which was fine because like I said, I had no idea what was going on really. The equipment he was testing failed initially, probably due to it not being used in over a decade. He took most of the system apart, cleaned it (it was clogged with dirt), then put it all back together, retested, and the system passed. Very professional and got the ridiculous job done that the city (which I found out was also the state of Michigan), was asking. Just wish Troy would reimburse me!

I will not recommend their store or plumbing services to anyone. My 93 year old mother-in-law called them out to resolve a slow draining tub issue. They came out 3 times and never fixed the trouble. Each time telling her it was all set. I went to her house today and witnessed the trouble myself. The tub is filling and draining slow, just as she described. I stopped by Trevarrow and explained the situation and asked if they could come out and help resolve the issue. I was not asking for anything for free. Just trying to schedule them out to help resolve the issue. I was in no way angry. There was no reason for me to be since I wasn't really involved in the previous service calls. My mother-in-law is 93 and very hard of hearing. I just assumed the difficulty communicating was the issue. They told me they would not come back out to her house and that I should call another plumber. After 25+ years of supporting this business, I'm done. I will not return to this store for any reason and will recommend to everyone I know to give their business to someone else. If they can't help out a 93 year old whose family supported their business for decades, they don't deserve my continued support. It's a shame, but that's that way it is.
