I scheduled a free spring inspection after they repaired my heating in winter. I had no issues, just took them up on their free inspection. The plumber came, drained my water heater, inspected my sinks, and said everything was fine. The first time I used my kitchen sink afterward, it sprayed water everywhere -- a problem I'd never had before. When I called to report it, they blamed wear and tear and demanded seven hundred fifty dollars to fix it. Here's the contradiction: if wear and tear caused the damage, why did the plumber miss it during his inspection and declare everything working? They either caused the problem or failed to catch it, yet they refuse responsibility and expect me to pay. I fixed it myself out of pocket. Don't trust their inspections or their excuses -- they'll damage your home and charge you to fix it. read more

I was referred to this company by my neighbor for a new generator and new electric panel to have more slots and an increase in load for my home. The salesperson (Mike) who was let go this past year) wrote up the quote and promised me all was good my requests and concerns for adding my upcoming purchases of EV vehicle and replacement hot tub; this was Sept 2023. Now I am ready and have bought the Hot tub but there is NOT sufficient AMPs on panel nor load on Generator. I called up Royal Oak H&C, Mike's replacement came out and told me today there were no NOTES on my account from Mike and since I signed the quote (which I TRUSTED Mike was ordering what we discussed; I am a Finance person without much electrical knowledge) today I was told Royal Oak Heating & Cooling would do NOTHING to make this right!!! The new panel I need will cost $3,600 and maybe could discount it down to $2,900 & the generator disrupter is another $2K or more. I DO NOT RECOMMEND ROYAL OAK HEATING ELECTRICAL & COOLING since they do not stand behind their work nor do they communicate effectively with their customers. If I could I would rate them ZERO stars since I will now need to spend several thousands of dollars to correct this issue after already spending $13K with this Royal Oak Heating & Cooling & Electrical !!! read more

We bought a house back in April, then had six weeks to get a tons of renovation work done before we moved in. We were referred to RO Heating, Cooling and Electric by another electric company who had too long of a lead time--always great when another company sings a competitor's praises! The guys at RO were fantastic to work with: professional staff at the office scheduled a free inspection. We received quotes from a few different electricians, but we were sold on hiring RO after chatting w Mike, who was FANTASTIC to work with, and who answered all of our questions. Quote came back reasonably priced and in-line w the other quotes. Company was fantastic about being flexible in scheduling, as we had two other contractors doing work at the same time (painters, carpenter), and were able to fit into our schedule and gave us notice when they were on the way! Guys did fantastic work, and in good time. The placement of the lights looks marvelous, and we get compliments from everyone whose been in our house. We had an absolutely fantastic all around experience and have already referred family and friends in the area to them, if/when they need work done. I called yesterday because my furnace was not working. Diagnostics says I need a new switch. Somehow that changed into me needing a whole new board which would cost $250 but they would be charging me $900 for. He then turned off my water heater as well Saying it was unsafe and left my family without hot water and heat. This company is just looking for money. I called for a furnace and now my hot water is turned off? They said they will only turn the hot water back on if I pay them. Stay away from this company they are only in it for the money. read more

Very disappointed in this company in how they left my 83-year-old mother who cares for my Autistic brother who were left in the cold on Sunday. My mother's furnace stopped working Sunday morning and she called RO Heating & Cooling. They sent out Derek who stated it was an electrical issue and there was nothing he could do and would let the office know to schedule someone to come out on Monday. He proceeded to charge her $225.00 for the service call. When I arrived, I saw that all the lights were on in the basement and when I walked over to the circuit box, I saw that the furnace breaker was partial popped. When I fixed the breaker and turned the furnace on (which Derek for some reason turned off) the furnace came back on with NO PROBLEMS. On top of the fact my mother asked Derek if he shut off all the lights in the basement and he said "Yes", what a liar. She can't check because she can't walk down stairs. My mother's house was 62 degrees before "I" was able to get the furnace back on. It disgusts me how they treated an elderly woman on a fixed income and her handicapped son and expect them to sit in the cold house because they sent an employee who can't flip a circuit breaker and has NO respect of her home by leaving all the lights on in the basement and then charges her $225 for service call and did NOTHING. Five years ago, we spent over $11,000 with Royal Oak Heating and Cooling on a new furnace, air conditioner and hot water heater. While we needed a new furnace, our water heater was only 5 years old. However, they recommended we replace it. Two days ago, the Lochinvar hot water heater started leaking from the bottom and flooded part of our finished basement. Royal Oak H&C said they don't use the Lochinvar brand anymore because of reliability problems, but that was my only replacement option unless I agreed to pay for a different brand. The next day, they said if I waited another day they would speak to the owner about getting me a different brand and just charging me for installation. After another day, they told me I would have to pay $1,500 to avoid using Lochinvar again. At this point, I had no good options and still no hot water. They said they're not responsible for faulty manufacturing, but my expectation is they would stand behind their loyal customers. I will not be using Royal Oak Heating and Cooling again. read more

I have been using Royal oak Heating cooling for my place of business for a couple years now. Over the weekend I had water under my furnace. I left a message on Saturday about my issue and they were quick to call back first thing Monday morning and a technician was at my place a half hour later. Luckily a easy fix. ROHC is always quick to respond, everyone is friendly and professional. They seem like they truly care and ready to help. And I never felt like I was overpriced for services. I wish I had better things to say about a local business, but I am afraid these guys are a total waste of money. I hired them to come out and troubleshoot my AC. I have been getting a lot of condensation on the A coil which is causing water to drip down all around my furnace. The tech came out (I do have to say he was polite and professional) and asked me about the issue. I told him the information above and he said it was likely a pressure issue with the coolant. He checked and, sure enough, it was low. He charged it up, handed me a bill for $175 ($65 diagnostic fee, $72 for 1/2 hour of labor, and $37.50 for a half pound of coolant), then he left. He never went to my furnace to look at the problem and he didn't stay around to test his work. I have been troubleshooting electro/mechanical systems for almost 20 years and have never seen a technician do that. I let the system run for an hour and the condensation is still there. I called the office and was told they could come back out; however, to avoid over time rates, I would have to take more time off work to have the service performed during normal business hours. This is not right. I hired them to do a job which they did not do. The person on the phone was dismissive and said there was nothing they could do. When I pressed her, she said she'd look into it and call me back, possibly the next morning. I have not received any phone call, as of yet. Additionally, they will not refund the labor or diagnostic fee. That is out right robbery. They didn't diagnose the issue and performed 30 minutes of labor that that did nothing to improve the issue for which they were hired to fix. Point blank, they stole $136 from me. This company's main goal is to extort its customers for money. I would not trust them with your business as they have proven themselves incapable and without integrity. read more

I had them come out to look at my a/c unit, the guy was here for less than 10 min and said it was a wire that wasn't connected. The tech, recommended to me that I should just fix the wire myself, because he would have charged me more than the $115 service charge I was already going to have to pay. He told me if that didn't work to call and he would come back out and had a few ideas of what it could be. When I called back because it did not fix the problem, the lady on the phone said they will charge me another service charge. When I asked for them to help out or wave the fee because 1)they didn't fix it the first time and 2) I did what their tech told me to do. She said no there is nothing they can do. When I asked to to please help out or I would go to one of their competitors, she said, "ok have a nice day" The tech was very polite and professional, but they have no customer service. I would love to support local businesses, but not backing what your own employees say and not willing to work with your customers and saying ok fine, is terrible and I will not be working with This company again and will warn all of my friends and family away from using this company. read more

I had a new residential boiler installed. The estimate was handled professionally. The installation crew arrived on time and worked steadily and efficiently. The work was finished on time and as promised. They wore masks, gloves and shoe coverings. They were friendly and professional. They explained about safety systems, how to use the new thermostats, and how to operate the new unit. They vacuumed and wiped down when they were finished. We have never used Royal Oak Heating and Cooling before. They came out for an estimate to repair/replace our furnace blower motor. We were quoted $890.92 with 3-4 days to get the part. We thought this was extremely high. We called G******* HVAC company. They came out the next day to inspect it, called their warehouse, had the part delivered to our house and replaced the motor on the spot for $319 total. Royal Oak Heating and Cooling is a complete rip off in our opinion. read more

Recently I called them because I had a gas leak. Consumers came out and shut off the gas. They told me to call a company to follow the gas leak and fix it. The guy that came out had to go into the crawl space . I felt bad because it was pretty dirty area to have to work in. He fixed everything. I am EXTREMELY dissatisfied with the services provided by Royal Oak Heating and Cooling. I had the company out for a visit to look at my furnace, and I was assured by the technician that he had identified the problem and he quoted me, and he said the furnace has a lot of life left and I should get this fix. I paid roughly $400 for this visit. A couple weeks later, the same exact issue and noise began to occur again. I called to tell them about it, the representative on the phone said ok we'll come out and fix it. Made no mention of any charge or anything, nor did the technician say anything about additional charges. Later on, the company keeps sending bills in the mail and calls me. I informed them that they responded to the original claim and that I should not have to pay for them to re-fix an issue. I ended up agreeing to make a partial payment. BEWARE: they tried to charge me another visit fee, for the same issue. If you have to come out twice to fix the same issue, should I have to pay the visit fee twice? Now, again, the furnace is making the same noise and not blowing any heat. Keep in mind this is the SAME issue that I originally called about. My opinion is that the technicians are not experienced and try to scam you by selling small fixes here and there, when in fact they know the furnace needs to be replaced in the first place, but why not milk these customers a few times first. NOT RECOMMENDED! There are other companies out there, I will have them come look at my furnace and I will post another update once I find out what the issue is. If another company is able to fix it and identify the problem, then it clearly establishes that this company is out to scam. I know the economy is rough for businesses, but this does not give the right to scam the people. Buyer beware, do your research first. Just a heads up. read more

I have to agree with the previous post. They charged a $75 service/trip fee for work that took less than 15 minutes and the final cost was over $250! THEN 30 days later, the same issue occurred so we called them again. We asked if they could give us a discounted rate or waive the trip fee and they would not accommodate. So, we called someone else and they came out to resolve the issue and we'll be using the new company to replace our heating and cooling unit. My understanding is, this place has had new owners over the last few years and their reputation is declining. Go with a referral. Let me know if you need one! read more

I had them install my furnace within the last 10 years. I haven't had any issues with the furnace and have been quite happy with it. Recently I called to get a furnace humidifier to replace the old one and they gave me a price of $500 for a $150 humidifier. They only use Aprilaire and not Bryant, despite being a Bryant installer. So $350 to install it. I can't complain about the work but they are the most expensive that I've found, not atypical of Royal Oak places in general. read more

My wife and I had such a unique experience with Ferguson Heating & Cooling that I had to break out my Yelp password to login and make sure our Oxford/Lake Orion community knew how great these guys were. We have used them 3 times since moving into Metamora... and each time they have been on-time, extremely professional and very fairly priced. The first time they came was for a tune-up on our furnace after we moved in. The second time we called them was about 3 years later to run gas lines for our new gas stove...(they did a GREAT job). But the third time is the kicker. We arrived home at 1am from a week and a half long family vacation with our air conditioner buzzing so loud we were shocked our neighbors hadn't called us to shut it off. I called Scott Ferguson (the Owner of the Company) and he immediately setup a rush appointment for one of his crews to come out and take a look. Based on the noise and the fact that our house was about 95 degrees I was truly expecting the worst case scenario. When the tech called to tell me that it was only a $25 part that had seized up the fan and everything else on my air conditioner was in great shape I was completely shocked. They easily could have overbilled or overcharged me for this... but they were extremely honest and were able to get the part fixed in less than 30 minutes. It was a huge relief to come home from work to a chilly house in July. I highly recommend this family run business... and am proud to support a local company in our area. Well done Scott! read more

He arrived 10 minutes later. Another occasion, with a similar promised arrival time, he actually called and arrived at full 30 minutes early. Our furnace was only running for 15 minutes at a time so we hired them to come take a look. They said they'd be at our house between 12pm and 3pm, which they were. We were told there would be a $67 diagnostic fee. My wife went to go check on the tech, and he had cut some of our pipes, so when she asked if there was an extra fee, he said yes. He said "if I stop now and put everything back together, it'll be $172." He also said that really, we need a new furnace and that he was trying to figure out a way to put that off for us. While I guess I appreciate the initiative, you DO NOT start billable work on something without telling the customer. He did find some things and fixed them, which I appreciate but we were not told how we would be billed. I guess when you have a nice house, they assume you have money to burn. He also spend a lot of time talking on the phone about what was next for him, not anything related to the work he was doing for us and I have to wonder if I was billed for that too. We got a second opinion from another company, and they said that we did not need a new furnace and things were working fine (he actually did DIAGNOSTICS and did not charge us a dime). read more

I should've known when he had me turn the thermostat on upstairs that he should've been able to jump it at the unit downstairs. very unqualified. Paid for someone to come out, he advised his fix was temporary (not safe for long term) and was supposed to provide a quote to repair, the quote was never received. A 2nd person came out to quote a new Boiler from this same company, I requested he also follow up on the repair quote. I never saw a quote for the old or new boiler. Apparently this company felt my business was not needed so I was left with their temporary fix. Based on the other reviews it seems they prefer not to do repairs but will treat you well if your purchasing new. read more

Excellent techs and installers I went with them because they seemed knowledgeable about their product, unfortunately the day after my install I was without heat. And there answering service took two days to respond. Buyers remorse. Definitely not the cheapest either. Defective part on the new furnace had to be ordered and it took a couple more days to fix. On top of the furnace it cost me $100 in fire wood to heat the house. They never even offered to compensate me for the major inconvenience. read more

I have used them three times since I bought my house. No one noticed until the third visit that a vent pipe was pitched the wrong way and I did not have a chimney liner. This is over the course of 23 months. My heat went out on Sunday, I had to pay the after hours rate. Walt the tech said I had a clogged pressure switch and he cleaned it and told me about the other two issues. It went out again on Tuesday , then came on, then went off around 11 pm and did not come back on until the next day. This happened Tuesday AND Wednesday. I had called the after hours guy again Tuesday and he refused to come out because I had not committed to the other two fixes. A rep came out on Wednesday to give me a price for the pipe and liner. This guy had been here on the 2nd visit to fix a problem and never noticed the EXPENSIVE issues. I asked if they would keep it from shutting off every night. He said he did not know. I did call for an appointment Thursday(no one called me as promised) and was told they could not get to me for 6 days. I called another company yesterday, they came out today. There were several things done, one was to tighten the pressure switch that Walt claimed to have cleaned. They also reset the computer that was shutting off the heat at night. I will hire them to do the other two things when I can afford it. I'm a COVID casualty of layoffs and unemployment runs out the day after Christmas. read more

Simple repair that took 10 minutes to replace and the charge was $200! Of course I expected a high value fee but this is extreme!!! Along with this man's attitude...so NOT necessary. Man, I feel like my fellow yelper let me down I will note that Ferguson charges by the HOUR not by the service call, so I included all the times for your reference. First of all, the two gentlemen arrived at my new home at 9:14am on Wednesday 4/29/15, which is completely acceptable considering the caller who notified me that they were on their way said they would be there between 9:00 and 9:10am. The two gentlemen sat in the car until almost 9:20am, when they walked in they told me that my furnace wasn't heating the home and asked to see the thermostats.... They walked over to two of them and turned them WAY up. I showed them the furnace where the burner unit wasn't igniting, and told them it probably just needed to be cleaned but since it was a new home, we just wanted the "Experts" to help us out. They took out the burner unit and cleaned it, I checked in on them after about 10 minutes and they said it was a REALLY complicated furnace and it isn't a simple take the burner unit out and put it in... and that it could take a LONG time to fix. Turned out, they only needed to clean out three of the five burners. At 9:41am, they were done and went to sit in the car to write up the invoice. At 9:48, they came inside to run my credit card.... The invoice shows from 9:05 to 9:55 (IT WASN'T EVEN 9:55 when they came in to swipe my credit card). The cost was $80 for the first half hour and $25 for each additional 15 minutes. Wow. But overall, the gentlemen were nice and friendly... Overall, I think the company is a total scam... and as a new customer, I would expect they would have treated us well so that we would feel comfortable using them for a yearly maintenance program for our house (since we are new to the area and clearly in that market). But they lied )about the amount of time they were working at my house) on the invoice about the timing to squeeze out and extra $25. The total for cleaning out my burner unit $115. Ouch. I have worked with many heating companies before and that is ridiculous. The good news is that I found one company that I wont be using again read more
