My partner was in the restroom so went after us to get his drink, he ordered, she asked for his id, just like everyone else. He then gave it to her and she took it then proceeded to take it into the back, COMPLETELY bent it in half and CREASE it. He didn't say anything he doesn't care to argue about it. But I do:)) So I went and asked if she bent it she lied and told me no, to which I corrected her and told her we know she did (his id is brand new and it says it on there). Her reason is "PA IDs don't bend" I said i understand but this isn't a Pa id and informed her of the 3 main ways to know it is real also told her to make a google search. She refused to check it again and said she didn't need to serve him. (Which I know is true) At the end of the day you do not do this to someone's GOVERNMENT documents‍ mind u the owner was right there the whole time and both of them tried to tell me no one bent it and grab it out of my hands I was showing them. I also did crease my friends PA ID‍

The drive is beautiful, especially on a sunny day in the fall. The leaves are incredible. As you're driving winding roads along Wills Creek, Hillbilly Haven pops out of nowhere. You'll see plenty of pick-up trucks, four-wheelers and side-by-sides. What you get: is an absolutely quintessential dark, country, dive bar. Beloved by locals, they have pool tables, a small live music and dance area inside and a really nice outside area in the back. You'll meet some of the nicest people. Just remember-it is a local country bar and when in Rome... Here's the big draw-oh my goodness, the food! People come from miles away to get take-out. The wings are perfectly seasoned no matter the sauce/rub, juicy but crisp. The Hillbilly Deluxe burger puts a Big Mac to shame. The smoked meats are done on site by people who really know what they're doing. If you're looking for a Saturday or Sunday road trip on a pretty day and some terrific food, find Hillbilly Haven. Grab a beer and enjoy the country. ATV recommended but not required. This update from my friend April- "

I have been to tavern 29 4 times now. Honestly the food was good, and the view is nice. Why would…read moreI give a one star review? I always noticed the staff seemed to be walking on eggshells. They always seemed to be more human roombas and less bartenders. This was unfortunate as most people go to the bar to socialize. Then I began to hear about the owner and her foibles. It has been said she tells the staff not to talk to customers to much and she has a demanding cleaning regime. These were rumors. Now I will relate the objective and observed reason I will never come back to this bar, ever: I was finishing my last beer when My friend came in. He is Hispanic. He is a union mason and therefore makes far more than my teacher's salary. He is a good and hardworking man who takes care of his family. I have coached his kids. He is well liked because of his good nature and easy smile. I was about to leave but I told him I would always stay to have one more to talk to him. He insisted on buying my beer over my objections. He also bought the other four people at he bar a drink each. He is always generous and a good tipper. We were almost finished our drinks and everyone was enjoying his company, we were having a great time. He is very good company. Then I noticed the manager receiving a text. Then the bartender gave him his tab. The manager took my friend outside and asked him to leave. The manager said he needed to leave because his shirt was to dirty. He is a working man with a job that will leave spots on your shirt. He had those spots on his shirt from earning the money to spend at this bar! I was mortified as were the other 4 patrons. We are all white collar anglos, we have never been subjected to this sort of treatment. We were embarrassed to see it inflicted on another person especially a person as nice as this. They left their drinks on the bar and left. They told my friend he shouldn't have to pay for their drinks because the owner had kicked him out for such a snobby and possibly bigoted reason. They wanted to pay so none of his money would go to the owner. He reacted with class, and insisted on paying anyway. He just pointed to his clothes while he paid and said "I am to dirty to drink here." I will go home. This is not Manhattan. This is the middle of no where in West Virginia. If a working man can't come into a bar in clothes he got spots on from laboring for the money he wants to spend at that establishment I certainly will never go to that bar. ***Update**** statement from the owner regarding this was: "He had some grease on him a few weeks ago which got on another customers clothes from the seat he was in." No apology, no remorse. That is what she has had to say about herself. Perhaps have your human roombas who aren't allowed to talk to customers, take a rag to the stools while they do their endless rounds of cleaning, while not talking to customers. So in closing if you want to go to the snobbiest, most unwelcoming bar in all of West Virginia make sure you have a clean shirt. Working class people are certainly not welcome here.

"Whiskey, Wings, and Pool Sharks: A Local Survival Guide"…read more If you find yourself in Elkins craving good food, cold drinks, and a side of character, roll on down to Whiskey River. The place is pure West Virginia charm with just the right mix of country grit and friendly mischief. The food? Fantastic. The wings are sauced like somebody back there actually cares, and the burgers taste like they've seen a grill before, not a microwave. But be warned: the real action happens at the pool tables. You might think, "I'll shoot a quick game while I wait on my fries." Next thing you know, you're three games deep against a guy named Buck who swears he's "rusty" but just ran the table faster than you can say cue ball. That's when you realize the fries were ready 20 minutes ago -- and you've just been hustled out of your dignity (and maybe a round of shots). Pro tip: If someone offers to "let you break," kindly decline and protect your pride. Order another beer, tip the bartender, and enjoy the show -- because watching the locals play pool here is better entertainment than half the stuff on TV. Whiskey River is one of those rare places where the food's hot, the folks are real, and the laughter's louder than the jukebox. Just remember: eat first, then play pool. You'll thank me later.

First, when we walked in, the greeting was, "may I help you?" I thought we may have been in the wrong place. We were seated, but took a while before a server came over to take our order. By this time, we had time to peruse the menu and decide. When we went in, the room was empty. By the time our server came, the room had filled. I asked if the sweet tea is sweet. I was told "not very sweet" strike one. Then was told only Pepsi products. Strike two. I knew it wasn't looking good at this point. I noticed they have a French item on the menu as well. Very odd selections. I settled on the Seafood Scampi. Bad choice. We were told the kitchen was "backed up." Hoped the toilets weren't. So, the bread will be out in a while. They should have kept it. It was very "doughy" and like chewing "Big League Chew." The food finally arrived, after a very, very long wait. The food was luke-warm at best. There was absolutely no seasoning, so was very bland. The menu stated, "our secret scampi sauce." Well, it was quite a secret, I couldn't see or taste it. Our security clearance wasn't high enough. The shrimp was over-cooked and like rubber. The mussels were salty, but at least had some seasoning. Our server was overwhelmed. She did not do a good job, but I still gave her a tip. The place is super noisy. They had music blaring, so everyone talking very loudly. I have been to Italy, and this place is as far from Italian as it gets. I did finally find the secret sauce. It was pooled in the bottom of the plate. Also, I never saw a manager the entire time. They need to step up and help the poor servers and talk to diners. The prices are high, for the low quality food. I read reviews that say, "best Italian food..." Evidently, they have never had good Italian food.
