I'm gonna try not to Milk it with this One, but I don't always keep my Promises on that Sometimes. Milk is lot of things, Refreshing, Nourishing, loaded with Calcium to help build Strong Bones. I remember watching a Nickel City Chef Battle between Adam Goetz (Craving) and Bryan Mecozzi (Black Iron Bystro) with their Milk as the Main Ingredient for the Battle, with Dishes like Milk poached Cod with Popcorn Grits, Sea Foam, Brown Butter Sand, Sea Beans & Cheese Encrusted Cauliflower and White Russian Milkshake with Zamir Vodka, Coffee Liquor and Espresso Caviar (Splendid Battle). Located in Sanborn (Middle of Nowhere), 35 Minutes north of the North Tonawanda Farmer's Market, I as able to convince my Father to take me and my Brother here for some Lunch. Walking into this place, like you would any Fast Food Place (it has same kind of Feeling to it). We went up to place our Orders, Nate & Dad both split a Burger Sub while I got myself a Roast Beef Sandwich with Smoked Gouda. I thought the Meat was good (but that Gouda on top that melted was Amazing). Me and Nathan also each got a Bottle of Milk (which were like something from back in the 1940's or 50's that the Milkman would deliver door to door by Hand). I got Chocolate and Nate got Strawberry (the Milk had a nice Richness to it). We also split and order of Waffle Fries, the one thing that I didn't like was that my dad took the Bottle of Vinegar and doused Half of those Fries with it. Some of them were a bit Crispy (like a Waffle out of the Machine) some where a bit Soggy (but I dealt with it). We ate, talked and told stories, it was a good experience. This is a place you'd come if you were going out this way for one of those Rare Treats. It could be a while before coming back but we'll see !!! read more

Went into the Dairy Store this weekend and bought a few bottles of milk and spoke to one of the operators. She told me their milk is brought in from other farms into their shop on Tuesday's and Thursday's where they pasteurize and bottle thousands of bottles. They also sell the local pizza logs for $7.95 a box. read more

I hate to leave anything lower then a 4 star review for local businesses but they are in over their heads. The girl at the register took way too long to ask us if we were ready to order or if we had questions. She didn't even great us. As we were waiting to order many people came up to complain that their order was incorrect. It was chaotic. Of course our order was not correct either. They ran out of mushrooms which was supposed to come on my burger as well as grilled onions but I asked for none, so essentially I got a burger with cheese. They informed us after they handed my husband our food that they ran out of mushrooms. They could've let us know sooner so at least I could have ordered peppers instead. My bun also had some sort of orange oily liquid on it which appeared to be and smelled like hot sauce which was unenjoyable. It dropped on my hand a couple of times. I also would've preferred my bun to been lightly toasted or at least warmed. It didn't seem worth it at that point to complain. My husband asked for no onions on his burger and got no onions, but also didn't receive lettuce or tomato which he wanted and asked for and the girl at the register repeated our order correctly. I don't know where the disconnect is. Maybe it's because the season just started? But I asked if it's always this busy and she said yes. The subs looked and smelled good. Everything smelled good. It's too bad we had a poor experience and didn't receive what we ordered and paid for because the food was decent, but probably would've been better had we received what we ordered. Wow what a hidden gem! So my gps took me to The barn for some reason I was greeted by one of the workers who was overly friendly I think his name was tom if I recall. He pointed us in the right direction once down the dirt road we ended up at the restaurant. Plenty of great items to choose from I ended up ordering a burger and so did the kids, food came out fast within 15 minutes everything was delicious and great!!! After the kids wanted ice cream all as I can say is wow!! Baby cones were the size of mediums at other places and my milkshake was delicious the young lady told us that it was made with there milk!! Everything was amazing I highly recommend checking this place out, we even ended up buying some milk to take him and we will definitely be back!! read more

Stopped here for lunch with my dad on a Saturday afternoon. I had never been here before and was pleasantly surprised. The restaurant isn't anything fancy and the menu is typical, subs, sandwiches, burgers etc. I ordered a hot turkey sub and my dad had the burger with blue cheese, we also got the large order of fries. We waited about 10 minutes for our food. The turkey on my sub was hot and fresh, absolutely delicious. My dad scarfed down his burger but he did say there was a bit too much blue cheese. Before we left my dad got a small cherry cone and we got 2 chocolate milks to bring home. All in all if I'm in the neighborhood I would come back for lunch and/or ice cream. Great stop! read more

Fresh squeezed chocolate milk. Straight from the chocolate cows apparently. The frozen custard is some of the best I've had. (Get the chocolate milk). The staff was soo friendly! I had so many ice cream samples that I no longer needed ice cream. It took a while for the beef on weck to come up was a whole new experience for me and I love it. Piled high with beef and a huge side of fries. The horseradish is the real deal though. It's not cut with anything so BE CAREFUL! I think I may have had a mini-stroke because of it. I put a pretty generous amount on the first bite and my eyes stopped working except to water and I think I lost around 15 minutes to the blindness and searing pain in my nasal canal. I used to frequent the restaurant at Hoovers for years and always had good experiences until the past few years. I have been there about 5 times in the past 2 years and left without eating each time. I went for the fish fry three of those times only to be told after waiting in line that they "just ran out of fish" or that they were out of potato salad, coleslaw, etc. Went 2 months ago for their turkey dinner. Got there around 4 pm. After ordering and paying, the girl says "oh by the way we are out of gravy". I canceled my order and asked for a refund. I mentioned I don't eat turkey without gravy, to which the girl replied "Well, I don't even like gravy on my turkey!!" Not really interested in how she enjoys her food. Decided to give them one more chance tonight with the turkey dinner. Got there around 5 pm. Asked the girl about the turkey dinner to which she replied " Sorry, we're all sold out". You start dinner at 2 and are open until 8 pm yet are always sold out by 4 or 5 pm? Terrible way to run a business. The place is neat and clean but also lacks the table service they once provided. l used to love this place but we have now written it off for good. 3 strikes (+2)... you're out. read more

If you want a place that'll offer you some good greasy food, some ice cream, or even some local milk, this is the place. This is a very well known location in the area, and every time we visit Hoovers, it's a good time. We like to stop by after attending drill at our firehall, and we usually get about 5+ people that tag along because it's Hoovers. The chicken fingers, BLT, burgers, fries, and subs, just to name a few that I've personally tried, are awesome. Especially the Rodeo Burger. The owners are awesome, and all of the employees are always super kind and helpful when visiting. They offer their own milk, chocolate milk, and right now they even have egg nog! We stopped here for a bite to eat after checking out the nearby sunflower fields. The line was long but the teen staff moved quickly and efficiently. We were a little disappointed that they were out of the Thursday special and a few of their more popular sides but with their extensive menu, we had lots to choose from. We ordered our dinner and our ice cream all at once and were pleasantly surprised when the ice cream was up, just moments after placing our order! We worked on our ice cream while waiting for our food and I've gotta say, I'm a big fan of dessert before dinner! Our food came up and we took our nearly finished ice cream dishes & our burgers out to the front porch to enjoy some breeze and the sunset. Both of our burgers were awesome! I got the supreme (without 1000 dressing) and my friend got the steakhouse burger, both as doubles. We had a heck of a time getting a little of everything in one bite but we made it work! She ordered sweet potato fries (which came with honey packets) and were probably the best sweet potato fries I've ever had, with the perfect amount of crisp on the outside! We didn't take pictures of the ice cream because we finished it too quickly (understandably so) but 2 "small" ice creams (very large for a small, in my opinion), 2 specialty double cheese burgers and a 1/2 side of sweet potato fries, all for under $25, you can't beat it. There's also a large cow statue to take pictures in front of, in the field to the left of the restaurant, if your into that kind of thing! Great place for lunch, glad we came across it. Reading all the reviews it seems that Hoovers is locally owned and operated #eatlocal. Went with their 4oz steakhouse burger, they offer an 8oz, but the 4oz was plenty. Fresh mushrooms, steak-sauce, cheese, and wonderful homemade onion rings. I ordered the fish fry with potato salad. It was accompanied by macaroni salad and coleslaw. The fish was haddock and it was really good and flaky. I enjoyed the tartar sauce as well. I grew up with weekly trips to this dairy, with the milk bottles clanking next to me in the backseat, ready to get refilled with their quality milk. I've since moved on (to another city, to, gasp, almond milk) but can't help circling back since they've opened their restaurant. I've brought my best friend here, and she says it is one of the best burgers she has ever had. Went here for dinner on my birthday. It happened to be a Wednesday so I got the special that day. The chicken a la king was so good. Never had it before so I went for it. My boyfriend loves that dish so he was very excited for me to try it. Well glad to say that Hoover's was my first. They set the bar high. All fresh ingredients. You can tell it's home made. The biscuits had the perfect crunch on the outside and soft on the inside. My boyfriend ordered a burger with fries. He loved his burger and ate with no complaints. The order of fries were huge and my daughter and I dug into those as well. Nothing at Hoover's ever disappoints me. To be transparent, I'm adding on at least one full star here for nostalgic purposes. I grew up down the street from Hoover's and I always look forward to visits when I'm back in the area. First, I don't usually drink milk or enjoy other lactose products. But I make an exception when I visit Hoover's. When you're talking about dairy products, you really can't get better than Hoover's. The milk comes from their own cows across the field, so it is unbelievably fresh. Some of it is so thick that it would almost feel more appropriate to eat it with a spoon. Their soft-serve ice cream is always excellent, too. I always buy a bottle of chocolate milk to take home with me, too! The food is very typical small-town diner fare. Burgers, fries, beef on weck. Nothing special. Most of it is served in baskets. It's nothing special, but it is always hot and fresh. Looking forward to my next visit back home, as this review has me craving a big, cold glass of Hoover's chocolate milk! read more

Fresh dairy is great, however, my husband got sick from a chili dog. Said it tasted like it sat out all day, wasn't fresh and chili tasted sour and burnt. I messaged them and asked them to please be careful with these food items in the future. I got ZERO response. I at least hoped for some sort of response, good or bad but instead I was ignored. Um, yum! They only accept cash which is difficult if you don't carry much with you. I use my credit card for everything nowadays but anyway if you happen to go there, try their chocolate milk it is so fresh, tasty and creamy; it is awesome. This place has really really good burgers at a reasonable price. They have a selection of other sandwiches and subs as well as dinners like spaghetti, meatloaf, etc... Hoover's delivers milk and dairy products to my home and I've never been happier. The freshest, best tasting milk I've ever had. Their egg nog is world class and is routinely soldout a week before Christmas, so make sure you get it early. Food is a bit expensive. My wife and I got their smaller size burger where they use 2 grilled cheese sandwiches as the bun, along with a lg. fries. They should tell you, you get chips also or at least let you pay a bit more and sub fries for the chips. But this may confuse the staff, which was made up of a bunch of high school kids on this Sunday afternoon. 11 kids to be exact and still the food delivery was a snails pace (NOTE: you have to get the food after your name is called). Granted they had to service Ice Cream and milkshakes orders, but still, 11 people behind the counter and it was still slow! Anyway, our bill came to just about $24.00 for the 2 burgers, 1 Lg. fries and 1 Lg. Coke! One of the reasons why we stopped there was their milk they offer in glass quart bottles. for $2.25 which is available in chocolate and strawberry! Nice little local restaurant. I would normally give three stars but I like to support local and they are always nice. Why should I give three...I don't like the lay-out for the ordering process, it gets so jammed up at counter when busy and is a nightmare. They really should have the one side order and the opposite side as pick up-- you can't even get to the condiments counter or the basket return when busy!! My other sour note is more of a personal preference: I really dislike the buns they use for their burgers- imho they are too dense and chewy and stick to my teeth!! Not enjoyable at all!!! I always swear that next time I will ask for no bun and I always forget!! And last sour grape is cash only...come on now... Why they get four: The food is tasty though and they give a lot of it for a decent price. We haven't ventured from the Hoover burger and split a basket of fries (we really should everything else looks so tasty!) Hoovers restaurant has really gone down hill recently. It's like the kids working there are clueless. They need to train the kids properly and teach them the proper way. It's really inconsistent. Most of the stuff isn't home cooked it either comes out of the freezer or box...like the scallop patotoes or the caned spinach that comes with the meatloaf dinner. Is it really that hard to saute fresh spinach? It also takes forever to get the food you order. If your in a hurry I do not recommend eating here and they do not take credit. read more

The milkshakes are liquid consistency! It's like drinking flavored milk. They've been out of at least 3 ice cream flavors displayed on the board each time we've gone. You can get a better tasting milkshake at Anderson's or even Dairy Queen. I'd go back to give the food a shot, but I won't be trying the ice cream treats again.
