What should have been a great dining experience at the Hop River Airport restaurant was a massive display of customer dissatisfaction. First, I will say that our bartender, Miranda was fantastic and attentive! When we told her that we would order from the lunch menu, she said that because they were still in breakfast mode, she would add our order at 11am, which she did. TWENTY FIVE minutes after 11am, we told her that we would cancel our lunch order and just pay for our cocktails. How unfortunate. For the amount of money we were prepared to spend on airport meals, it was absolutely ridiculous that our order was forgotten. As someone with over 35 years of hospitality and fine dining experience, I strongly recommend Hop River hires more experienced kitchen staff and TRAIN them to meet the needs of travelers. We would have gladly paid Miranda a great tip for the lunch, but we weren't given the chance to do so. Skip the food and order cocktails. Do better, Hop River. read more

From the start, we weren't feeling the atmosphere and didn't feel welcomed with all the Pride flags around the brewery - Just an overall strange vibe (understand that was probably by design). Awesome atmosphere at Hop River! I finally checked this place out for myself and have a nice experience. We stopped in for post dinner beer on a beautiful evening! The tap room is located just north of downtown. There is additional parking behind the building, so don't let that stray you away. The taproom is also family friendly! They have a number of beer hall style tables to encourage people to get to know each other. They are all about community, which I love! You can find shelves stacked with board games and they also have a few picnic tables outside on the patio with corn hole boards. They definitely have the atmosphere down! They have a number of house beer on tap, as well as a few guest taps! I decided to try the Harrison Street Wheat Hefeweizen. Perfect beer to take outside and chill on the patio. The bartender was helpful in describing the beer and helping us out. Overall a good experience, I am looking forward to going back for more brews and to try the food! read more

If I could give half stars, I'd give 3.5 stars. The decor and atmosphere was pretty great. That's the main reason we'll be back. Well, that and the awesome game shelf they have! The beer list was lacking. We got two different IPAs and there wasn't much difference between the two. Food was decent. The caramelized onions dip was BOMB! We also shared the beef and beer cheese sandwich and I was expecting it to be a hot sandwich, but it wasn't. They offer pinball machines and dog friendly outdoor seating. They have Cornhole outside too. It's a cool place to hang out, that's for sure. Four beers, the sandwich, and the dip was $50 so it's not real cheap, but it was enjoyable. Super impressed with this place. First, there was a TON of parking, which surprised me. I'm always a bit worried about parking options when in downtown! It was cold, but they do have tables set up outside, which will make for some awesome summers, including garage doors on the walls that will be able to be opened. They serve beer (obviously), cider, wine, and food. I went with trying a flight & brisket sandwich. The brisket sandwich was SO good. I was surprised by the quality of it, for a brewery, so compliments to the chef! Their beer selection was a bit heavy on IPAs & stouts; personally I'm not a fan of these, so finding 4 beers without one of those was impossible. BUT I did try a coffee stout & it was actually pretty good! They also feature some guest taps, full of locally owned brews (Mad Anthony's, Junk Ditch & Kekionga). The service was fantastic. You don't wait even a minute to get a beer, multiple staff members are even checking on you when you've already ordered - I loved this. Also, I read in previous reviews that you have to order food & beer separately, this must have changed. I ordered my food & beer at the same time. Also, the staff is constantly coming by & taking empty beers from you to keep your space clear for the BOARD GAMES! Yes, they have a TON of board games that you can play! They also have a few arcade games that can be played as well. One of the coolest things about this place is the feel of it. All picnic tables joined together, creating a community environment - you end up sitting next to people who you didn't come with & creating conversation with strangers. Super cool! PARENT TIP: unlike some other awesome restaurants & breweries serving beer in the area, this place is 21 & under friendly, just can't sit at the bar. I've been to HRBC several times and it never disappoints. I love so many things about this local brewery. First and foremost I love supporting local business'. Also, it's in the coolest building with an industrial hipster vibe that is also very welcoming to anyone that walks in the doors. It's always clean, crisp and feels like home. The friendly staff makes you feel even more welcomed with their smiles, kindness and knowledge of the beers that are on tap or the food that the kitchen prepares. Their low key, take it easy attitude makes you feel relaxed as you savor the nice brewed beer they conjured up. The brewery is in the back of the building with plenty of windows for you to look through to see what that have brewing back there. You just never know what who be happening in there on each visit. They offer plenty of beer options for every ones taste buds. If you don't know what to get then ask! They have never steered me wrong when I want to try something new or if I don't like things in my beer such as a sour or to hOppy. The beers aren't way out there either. Meaning they don't go crazy with ingredients that may not go together. They seem to all have a smooth or robust silky texture that make you ask for seconds or thirds. It's really that good! Yummy is also a word I'd use for the food. Weather it be their peanuts that can be ordered sweet or spicy or their kids meals. They're all too good to pass up The peanuts are a must and both Kong's to boot For $2 its a Cheap snack. Also any of the nachos can't be beat. So fresh and tasty with each moral. The only thing I don't like about them is the cheese they put over the chips really ruins the chips in a few short minutes. The chips don't stand up to the sauce at all. I recommend asking for the pickled jalapeños. Yum. Also highly recommend the house made onion dip with kettle chips and veggies. So tasty with tons of slivered sautéed onions and a little tang to it. Every hamburger is made fresh and won't disappoint. They each handed their own distinct flavor that makes you want more. They're served with those kettle chips too. Can't decide on what to order, just order them all! Highly recommend coming here. It's family friendly, they offer different events or specials each night and have outdoor patio seating for those hot days we got at times. In my opinion beat local brewery. GO GO GO! PS. Very open concept lots of seating, lots of games. Very bright and Lively it was about 20% full on a Saturday afternoon about 3pm. We both had the only two IPA's that were on their beer menu. They do have a beer for everyone but that's about it one beer. I like a strong IPA so I went with the billable hours. It's not bad I liked it, but wish they had double and Imperials. They also had some guests beers but literally one and a guest cider. We shared the caramelized onion dip which was really tasty and came with the kettle chips. We also shared a hot beef and cheddar which was about 50-50 it wasn't great but it wasn't bad. A lot of options on the menu to share with. We really like the fact that they had games. While we ate and drank we played sorry and Rummikub. Overall I would like to give it 3. 5 when you can't give half a star. I love Hop River Brewing! We live in Austin but my wife is from Bluffton so for the past 20 years we've make a yearly trip to Northeast Indiana to visit her family for Thanksgiving or Christmas. As a huge fan of breweries I have really enjoyed seeing Fort Wayne's brewery scene explode in the past 5 years. We are so happy to not be limited to Mad Anthony anymore. We had some great experiences there - everything from sitting alone at the bar while the bartender let us try literally everything on the menu to busy nights with a band playing to just sitting there playing board games. But the new places in Fort Wayne have really expanded the options and made it tough to choose. We love the atmosphere of Summit City, the beer at Junk Ditch was very good, Trubble is such a cool place too. But so far, Hop River has risen to the top. A great lineup of beers, cool staff, a non-pretentious vibe and a good selection of games make this our go-to spot in Fort Wayne. read more

We visited Hop River Brewing last week when they were hosting a fundraiser for the Fort Wayne Veg'n Brew Fest. I'm so glad I spotted this fundraiser on fb because this place is a gem! We started with chili lime nuts and my husband tried an Only Pils. We then shared a Vegetable Muffuletta sandwich and the special sandwich for the evening the Tofu Bahn Mi. Both were excellent. It's so refreshing to order at a restaurant as vegan/plant based and find there is more than one option and neither is a salad! My husband also tried the Kolsch beer, he says both were good and he preferred Kolsch because of it's German Bier taste. He returned on Friday after work with some of the guys to share this new find. Pretty chill environment. They had the distillery peaking through the windows and an array of beer on the menu. They also had some wine and cider options as well as a food menu. I didn't try anything when I went because I was too full from dinner but everyone I was with seemed to enjoy the beer and wine. They also had table games,like Jenga, for entertainment. Parking was pretty spacious with street parking and a parking lot. We came here on the late side, around 10 pm, and they had a generous crowd but still enough seating at the "community" tables. read more

I LOVE this place, I have been here 4 times and have never been disappointed with their product. My favorite beer their is Billable Hours and my favorite thing to eat their is their homemade onion dip... both are amazing. I would very easily give this place 5 stars IF the lady bartenders were more friendly. Every single time I go in, I always feel like an inconvenience to order something at the bar. I know that I am not the only one to feel this way because the last time I was in, I went and sat down with my friend after ordering and mentioned something to her about it and a party of 4 next to us said "Oh, We were just talking about that, I'm glad we're not the only ones who notice every time we come in." I only had the Lasers in the Jungle IPA so I don't think my opinion of the beer here is comprehensive, but I was very unimpressed by that particular IPA. It was very bland and you can barely taste the hops, and the bartender failed to mention that when I specifically asked him what the difference was between the two IPAs on tap. All he said was "Lasers has more Citra and Mosaic," with no mention of what the other IPA is supposed to be like. However, they do have multiple beers that have won the Indiana brewers cup medal, so maybe that says more about their beer than my sample size of one. The atmosphere is cozy, and there's a fooseball table. I would be open to coming again despite the unhelpful bartender, but I'm definitely ordering an award winning beer next time. read more

Niche brewery with great beer and a unique vibe. If you're looking to relax and drink, this is a good place

Hop River is absolutely one of the best things Fort Wayne has to offer. We went the week they opened and quickly became regulars. The beers are solid and there's a good level of rotation. They have staples that are almost always available (occasionally they'll run out of one or two, but that's rare and remedied pretty quickly) and regularly do limited releases as well. If you're a fan of IPA's, Lasers in the Jungle is great--the right blend of citrus and hop without being overly fruity or bitter (think Zombie Dust). Their food is worth doing too. Sandwiches mostly, but all we've had have been perfectly satisfying. The white BBQ chicken is habit-forming. Their pulled pork nachos are great and definitely big enough to share (someone else reviewed that they were disappointed that the chips were kettle chips and not "real" nachos. The menu does specify this. Just saying). As someone who really appreciates quality ingredients, I feel like you're definitely getting what you're paying for. Meals are $10-$12 for a sandwich and side. Seeing that you easily spend almost that much on fast food combos anymore, I'm totally cool with their prices for good food that doesn't make me hate myself. If you're someone who wants huge quantities of deep-fried everything, this is probably not your place. It's also not your place if you're looking for an extensive wine list (that seems obvious, I know, but I've seen it happen. Needless to say, those people were unfairly disappointed. Because, well, brewery). That being said, there really is a diverse crowd there any given night. It's a fun, light atmosphere that draws all kinds and I love that. It's also very family friendly. Their wall of board games is brilliant. They update Instagram regularly with scheduled activities (trivia, crafts, etc.) and new releases. There are seasonal perks too like their patio, outdoor games and fire pit. It's just a happy place and you should go there if you're a happy person. But probably not if you're cranky. Wanted to check out some new (to us) breweries with friends on a holiday trip home to Fort Wayne. Hadn't heard of Hop River before but were glad we ended up there! Fun atmosphere, very relaxed, and family friendly to boot. Bench/table seating, but the coat racks at the end of each row of tables were a nice touch. We didn't try the food, but it looked like they had a decent selection. The beer was good! I tried a sampler so I could taste a few styles and they had different specials through the week. Went to the grand opening. So, I will over look the chaos. However there are somethings worth commenting on that be the same despite being grand opening day. The beer was good, but not great. I am homebrewer, and I would have been happy with the beer if I brewed it. However, I would not be telling people that it was awesome, best ever, or amazing. It was just good. The food was not good. $12 for a hot Italian sandwich that was not good. I could have made a better sandwich. All the sub shops in town make a better sub for half the cost. My daughter and I had the hot Italian and felt the same about it. It had too much bread and not enough meat. The flavor was also not great. My wife had the Fried baloney and did not think it was that great either. The sandwich prices are ridiculous. At those prices, you shouldn't be thinking you can make a better one with low cost bread, meat, and condiments from Kroger. Their ordering concept sucks. No waitress. You have a separate counter for ordering beer and a separate one for ordering food. So, two different charges on your credit card. Then you want another beer you pay again. They do offer running a tab, but you leave your card. I haven't ran a tab since my clubing days back in the 90's. I bring my family to the place and run a tab? Come on. They need to fix this. Why do I pay for each transaction. Why not come up with some way that a customer can order appraisers, food, drinks, and order more without having to get out their credit card each time. We will try it again this summer. Hopefully they have consider what I wrote. read more

Been here twice place has great beer I really like the Maestro Vienna Lager the wife prefers the Sidereal Amber. Hop River is doing it right they have a good selection of beer. To many breweries in Fort Wayne just put up as many IPA's as they can. Not everyone is an IPA drinker. I prefer Malty beer over Hoppy beer. We have not tried any food yet, but we will because this is now my go to brewery in the Fort. read more

The service is a bit more laid back so be prepared for this. It is more of a place to enjoy not get in and out of. Fantastic brewery. The beer was delicious (as one would hope from a brewery). I enjoyed the wide variety of choices that were on tap and particularly liked the Two Truths and a Rye Ale. The layout of the brewery works well. Walk up service for both drinks and food. Even when the line was long (a sign you are at the right place in my opinion) it moved swiftly and efficiently. I loved the decor and the windows into the working portion of the brewery were a nice touch. The staff was attentive and friendly, and I felt both appreciated and welcomed from the moment I walked in. There are no TVs to distract you from the fantastic company you are sure to bring with you or meet at the family style tables. Also, board games are available to play with your party. If you get the chance, take a tour. You won't be disappointed and it never hurts to learn something about the drinks you have been enjoying. I enjoyed the ploughman's platter from the kitchen. The other food looked fantastic, but I filled up on beer too fast. Next time I will leave room for the brisket. It met every expectation I had. Would do it again in a heartbeat. read more

Stopped in to Hop River last Sunday. Not very busy. Decent sized bar, and a larger, kid friendly dining area. We sat at the bar where you get full service, nice enough were it not for all the people in the dining area ordering food/beer there. Dumb set up. The food was very good, we got the caramelized onion dip to start. It was obviously homemade, and had an interesting assortment of unique fresh vegetables (including watermelon radishes). We then each ordered a collard green with roasted sweet potato salad with added chicken. This was also very fresh and good. Sadly the let down for us was the beer. While they have a very nice brewing set up, the beers werent that great. I tried both of their IPA's, and they left a bit to be desired. They both had that nagging Ft Wayne unfiltered water aftertaste, like most of the other Ft Wayne breweries. They were just not very good. The wife had an imperial stout which was also so-so. I had heard good things about their beer, but ultimately found them to be disappointing. At $6-6.50 a pint I was hoping for much better. Service was reasonably friendly. Will probably go back for the salad, and in the hope they have a good guest tap on. read more

What a great place! I wanted to try Hop River, but just hadn't gotten there till last night. The atmosphere, even later on a Sunday was great. Taylor was awesome and very helpful. My wife had the porchetta, a pork sandwich without the bread, she has a gluten allergy, and said it was great. The pulled pork nachos were great. Like I said, my wife has a gluten allergy so couldn't have any beer, but I had the Harrison Street Wheat which was tasty. Overall, the food, the atmosphere and the staff where great.
