I would give it zero stars if I could. We had a terrible experience at this restaurant. After arriving and told it was a five minute wait , we were completely ignored by the hostess. No greeting, no update, no acknowledgment at all -- just left standing there while others were seated around us. We waited patiently for over 30 minutes before finally giving up and leaving. I like the whole "white card" system so you can self-pour and try all the ales, beers and ciders you want without pestering a server. Their cocktail menu is pretty dang good!! My husband really wanted to watch a football game so I quickly searched for a local bar and restaurant that had this. We had our children with us. On a Sunday afternoon, we stopped into this little gym in Livermore. The service was phenomenal. They had the football games playing all around on the TV screens and a lot of local fans were dining as well. We ordered some chicken tenders for the kids, the chicken was so tender and delicious. Served with a side of fries. I ordered fish tacos with the truffle fries. The fish tacos were great and the fish was cooked just right. The truffle fries they were not worth the upgraded price, they hardly had any extra flavor or truffle to them. My husband ordered a burger and he talked about how delicious it was, the burger was on the smaller side. He ordered the fried mac & cheese balls, but they were a little bit bland. However, they had a decent option of boardgames, and Mr. potato had to entertain the kids. This was a perfect place for everyone to find something they love. Ordered the Buffalo Chicken using Door Dash's direct delivery option. I'd had this dish once before at the restaurant and it was really good. Tonight it was awful. Everything was over cooked. Chicken was very dark, stringy and tough. The fried coating was hard making it difficult to cut the bigger chicken pieces. Potatoes were also over done most with black skins. First time here. We were picking up tickets in Will Call at the Bankhead Theater and this was one of the recommended restaurants from The Bankhead. In fact, the back of our ticket offered a discount so we decided to check it out. Basically, it's tap and pour. I dropped off my kids at a birthday party around the corner and decided to have a looky loo around. I've been to downtown L many times, but hadn't noticed Hops N Sessions before. I ducked in and was pleasantly suprised it was a self service taproom. I love this concept as you don't have to bother a bartender and you can have as much or as little as you like. It's a really large place. I came during a traditional happy hour but it wasn't crowded at all. Just a few groups and a family enjoying this nice Thursday out with the NBA playoffs on the many TVs inside. I did notice a couple of patrons weren't actually imbibing but only chewing on bar food. Which I guess is a good thing if you're going to a bar for the food. They swipe you card and you get an RFID tag to activate the pours. Grab a glass and pour to your heart's content. For the rookies, make sure you know how to pour. Since I was flying solo today, I was people watching and was entertaining to watch people pour their beers with extra head. Yum. I forget what I poured but they were all mighty good. I probably had 4 regular beers worth of pours and walked out paying only $20 with a hefty tip. Tip for what? My husband ordered the Rubin with Truffle Garlic Fries and a HenHouse Big Chicken Imperial IPA. He loved both! The fries were delicious but I have to say I didn't really taste the garlic & truffle. I had the Wedge Salad with Steak and a Federation In the Weeds IPA. I'm already familiar with the In the Weeds, just hadn't had it on tap. A great choice! If you like a bitter IPA, this is for you. The Wedge Salad was excellent! I was a little concerned that the steak would be chewy but it was very tender and cooked medium rare. A great combo with the balsamic reduction. Any time I'm in the area I always come to his bar, or recommend it to others. Especially if they like beer. The draft choices rotate every so often and it's a great chance to try well named breweries without having to buy a 4pk or crowler. I'll be sampling half pints of the hazy, DIPA, sour, stout, pale ale, lager, etc (or whatever my tolerance allows) and find a new brewery to be a fan of. Great prices for that too! You can always suffice your hunger by grabbing a $12 burger at a casual restaurant. But the burgers here are worth the price! I mean you got plenty of beers to compliment the pallette as well. Grabbing the loaded fries (nacho/bulgogi/garlic/etc) is usually too much, but I'm glad to take it home and sober up with it later. Came here for trivia night and to catch up with the girls for my first time here and it was such a good choice! We made it in time for happy hour and got a bunch of apps to share. We got the bbq burger sliders, popcorn chicken and fries, and zucchini fries. The burger sliders had a really soft and slightly sweet bun and were pretty good but you def have to like bbq sauce for these. The popcorn chicken was just okay, these and the fries were both not quite as good as they got cold. The zucchini fries were the best things we got and the sauce was elite! This evening, their pour-your-own-beer machine gave me a lot of foam and I immediately told one of the waiters because they charge for the foam. We grabbed some food which had happy hour pricing and then we went to the wall of beer and sampled a bunch of stuff. There was an ace guava cider that everyone enjoyed. I also love a good stout and they had a few good covers. As for the food, the pretzel is my favorite. The garlic fries are also very tasty. Parking in downtown can be tough. I'll have to visit again soon and document my experience to share. 1. I like that the menu not only has your standard bar snacks and foods but also has healthy options 2. The selection on tap is awesome! They have a number of beers (including a Nitro,) red and white wine, and multiple ciders in tap. There's something for everyone one to enjoy, seriously. I had a raspberry cider, and the BLT sandwich. My sandwich consisted of soft buttery Texas toast, thick cut bacon, fresh tomatoes and arugula. Incredible brewery concept, super friendly service and staff, and the inside of the restaurant is super clean and hospitable for a nice evening of beers and friends! When you enter they ask for your ID and a card to have on file, then they give you a white card you can use to tap against the beer spouts on the wall. You can get a full glass or just a few ounces to try a whole bunch of beers without breaking the bank. They also have delicious food, so far I've gotten their bugolgi fries and steak fries and I'm looking forward to try more of their food items in the future! I came here with my mom for an early dinner a few weeks ago and we loved it! My mom loved the bulgogi fries. I thought it was a bit too sweet but still enjoyed a few bites. I got the spicy chicken sandwich which was pretty good. Honestly couldn't eat much of it since we snacked too quickly on the zucchini fries! The zucchini fries are bomb. Afterwards we split dessert. I ordered the wedge salad and truffle garlic fries. Both were amazing choices. I was in the mood for a sour and ended up loving the Tropical one that was on the rotational beer menu. Our server Veronica was super attentive and knowledgeable about the menu. My fiancé like to play the "what do you like" game with our servers and Veronica offered so many different options for things that she liked on the menu. She was super friendly until the end of our stay and made sure our beer glasses stay full. Just a side note: this is probably my 3-4 time at this restaurant & they literally have the best customer service. All of the servers are super friendly, work well together and it shows. The Place (4 out of 5) - Hops & Sessions is located in the heart of Downtown Livermore and surrounded by it's small town feel, but huge community gathering of people, good eats, and good vibes. The building is mixed in with a bunch of other storefronts; however, it being on the corner, having a pretty prominent outdoor seating area, it's easily distinguishable. Parking can sometimes be a bit of a pain. There's a row of parking just in front of Hops & Sessions, but there's also a bunch of street parking in the surrounding area. Inside, there's a small bar top area and a bunch of bar tops and tables spread throughout that's able to accommodate a good sized capacity. For being a self-serve bar location, definitely one of the more spacious and "comfortable" I've been in! The Service (4 out of 5) - Now, if this is self-serve, what could I possibly say about the service. Plenty! Upon walking in, you're immediately welcomed by a greeter working the front counter. They ask if this is your first time visiting and, if so, walk you through how it all works. You supply them with a credit card and ID and then they give you an RFID badge that allows the dispensing of beer when tapped on the readers below each tap. The guy was super friendly, welcoming, and happily showed me the process. At the bar, the bartender (for mixed drinks) took our food order and was really friendly as well. No complaints! The Food (4.5 out of 5) - I wanna preface this with the fact that, originally walking in here, I had no intention of ordering food. My friend and I were there mainly to just drink and converse, but after looking at their menu, there were a few things that caught my eye so I ordered and I'll say this...I'm so glad I did! To start, my friend and I shared the fried mac & cheese bites and then I ordered a spicy chicken sandwich. The fried mac & cheese was good. Super crunchy, cheesy, and wasn't bland at all, which mac & cheese can sometimes be. The star of the show without a doubt, and something I still think about to this day, especially as I'm writing this out, is the spicy chicken sandwich! This is an absolute MUST get! First, the bread was really buttery and soft, the spicy mayo gave it that umami bite to it, but where the sandwich really shined was the chicken itself and its breading. The breading was REALLY flavorful and enough spice to let you know that, yup, it's a spicy sandwich without being too overpowering. The ratio of chicken to breading was spot on and it was cooked perfectly and super tender. I absolutely could've had a second one and can easily say this is probably one of the best spicy chicken sandwiches I've ever had and would have no qualms of driving out of my way just to get it again! Overall (4 out of 5) - Obviously, this place is about it's beer selection and service more than it's food, BUT there's absolutely nothing wrong with a place being able to, not only deliver on both, but having it's beer served in a unique manner that's becoming more and more common place these days. Hops & Sessions has a good thing going here and the ease of pouring your own beer while serving up good eats, it's bound to be a good time when you visit.
