I decided to try this place for some takeout tonight and I wanted a nice pasta dish. So I ordered the Olio y Aglio pasta (at least that's how they call it in Italy). This is a fettuccine with garlic pork belly Parmesan and oil with chicken or shrimp. Pasta was perfectly cooked. Seemed fresh but I'm not certain. The pork belly was QUITE smoky. Delicious but it was a tad overwhelming for a dish that is traditionally very simple in flavors. Anyway I liked it. But I ordered it with shrimp and they only gave me THREE in the entire entree. The Caesar salad was absolutely perfect and the grilled bread was fresh and crispy as well. I will definitely be back. But I had to rake of a couple stars for the shrimp that were missing. read more

There is a large selection of local beers, wines & ciders. The apps & entrees are on the smaller side, but that just means you get to try more of their delicious offering. When a bar trumpets the amount of taps they have, it's typically a surefire sign of two things: 1) The five most popular beers will all be unavailable 2) The food will be terrible Hops & Thyme bills itself as "upscale pub food" and amazingly, it delivers on that promise. The menu may be meager, but it's difficult to find anything that isn't stellar. The menu feels comically small, especially next to the two-page beer list. The interior is nice, if spartan. Because there's no a/c, you might as well go enjoy the covered outdoor patio, which is surprisingly cool thanks to misters. We ended up eating indoors, which was a mistake. Our meal started off with a whimper. I spied Electric Jellyfish (an incredible IPA brewed by Pinthouse) and was ecstatic. True to form, that tap was completely empty. It was surreal hearing beer recommendations from our 16 year old server, but he steered me towards Citra, which was actually pretty good. The second setback came when it took over ten minutes to get our beer. We were sitting less than ten yards away from the taps. If there's any spot where Hops & Thyme needs work, it's here. You're a brew pub, get people their damn beer, and do it expediently. Fortunately, they really saved themselves with the second act. The food is incredible. You're going to look at the tiny menu, then look at the tiny kitchen, and you'll be incredulous. Trust me. The fried cornbread comes out looking like oversized croutons. It's perfectly crunchy (at the expense of being a little dry, but hey, it's fried!) and salty, which is balanced perfectly by the slightly sweet butter. The bruschetta was the perfect counterpoint, both to the heat of Texas Summer, and to the heaviness of the cornbread. Protip: all of the pesto is on the bottom, so mix everything in first. If there's any complaint here, it's that there isn't nearly enough bread to match the burrata cheese. We had a group of five, so naturally I ate off everyone else's plates. For the most part, the entrees are on point. The steak skewers are nicely done, the chimichurri doesn't overpower, and they aren't overcooked like skewers tend to be. Pulled pork is synonymous with BBQ, so be warned that the mojo pulled pork sandwich is light and crisp, thanks to the slaw and watermelon. Now we have to talk about the chicken and PANCAKES. Take a seat. Yeah, I said pancakes. Not waffles. Pancakes. Who the hell do you think you are, Hops & Thyme? The chicken is legitimately good. The pancakes taste like dirt. Put a waffle next to that chicken, like our dear Lord sweet Jesus intended. Also, the mac & cheese isn't that great. If they actually have Electric Jellyfish and can get it in my hand in a reasonable amount of time, this'll be five stars next time. read more

Delicious food and wonderful porch with a sunset view. We stopped by Hops and Thyme on our way from the lake with a small group of friends. The place was not busy at all for a Saturday evening. Our server was friendly and very helpful explaining the menu and making suggestions. We ended up ordering Texas Chilly and Pork Belly Fried Rice. Both were excellent! Rice had kimchi in it which complimented the flavor. I want to try to replicate this at home ;) Our friends ordered Chicken and Pancakes and liked it a lot. Their portion seemed a little too big, so I would recommend sharing it. Our portions were just right. While the place is kind of far out there it's worth a try. We've been here at least three or four times now with several different groups of friends. We love the drumsticks. We ordered them every single time. The first time I ordered the salmon with vegetables on brunch and it was excellent the second time the same room with a little bit undercooked to my taste. Pasta was very greasy and ultimately not appetizing. Portions were not commensurate of the price nor typical dinner portions. We were excited about this place as it's so close to our home and had heard great things. The burger was cooked correctly and seasoned well but there was a surprisingly small amount of fries. We will try in person dining once to give this place a fair shake but will not order delivery again. Suggestion to the restaurant is to focus on execution for every dish that leaves the kitchen. I had been waiting for this place to open as it is right next to the hospital that i work in. the first time i went it was busy. i was under the assumption that it was a brewery and that the beers would be their own brew. turns out they just had a large selection of beers. (this didn't bother me as i just needed a beer.) i stood at the bar and a woman behind the bar introduced herself and asked what i would like. she was off to get me a couple samples of beer, or so i thought. watching she was juggling several customers but in about 15 mins she had forgotten my order. i was mildly frustrated as i know how it is to be busy. eventually renee (not sure if I spelled that right) came to my rescue. he helped me choose a good beer. he was attentive and funny. because of him i will be back to visit in the future read more

I am super picky when it comes to my drinks. The fish and chips are fantastic! They have the best French Fries! We had the Brussels sprouts and the chicken wings. All delicious. The pork belly fried rice was on point and my kids liked their grilled cheese sandwiches. My only complaint about the rice is that a fried egg should simply be included with the dish and not be an add-on at extra cost. Eggs are a staple of fried rice! Husband, however, did not care for his burger. So food was decent, but the bill was quite a surprise. Please be aware that their computer system and their menu do not line up. We ordered eggs and avocados. Eggs are supposed to be $1 each; we got charged $2. Same with avocados- $2, but charged $3. At the time, it wasn't worth fighting the bill, but I did bring it to the server's attention, and he assured me he would tell the manager. Months went by, and I popped in for a solo dinner. Ordered the fried rice again. This time, it was awful. There was basically an extremely salty soup at the bottom of my bowl. I literally tilted the bowl, drained the "soup" to the other end, so I could eat the rice. More than once, I thought about sending it back. I really, really wish I did. But I only continued to eat because I didn't have time to eat anything else, and I was grimacing the entire time. It was so salty that I basically drank the entire carafe of water. Got the bill, and there was the same pricing issue! Again, not going to argue about being charged an extra $1. But I did bring it to the server's attention. Like look, this happened last time and I would've thought any errors would've been corrected by now, right? Nope. So after my crappy food, plus tax, plus 20% tip, I paid $20+ for a very unsatisfactory meal. I definitely expected better food for that price! Alas, I left the restaurant extremely disappointed. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful on recommendations. Trent the owner stopped the table several times to make sure we were happy and even gave us samples of things to try he thought we'd like. Decided to eat at this small restaurant in Lakeway, TX today and wish we hadn't. To start off, there were very few people in the restaurant at around noon, but the server took forever to bring just the iced tea and forgot one of the waters. I had the Baja Shrimp tacos and my husband ordered the brunch scrambled eggs and bacon. The tacos had a strange taste and smell, with almost raw shrimp in them. The eggs and bacon were just ok. My husband asked for pepper and salt, the server went to supposedly get them, but never came back. I had to go looking for them, since none of the tables inside or on the patio had salt and pepper on them. When the server saw that I had them, she muttered, "Sorry about that." Because of the handheld electronic system for using your credit card, we were forced into giving her a 20 percent tip. Never would have voluntarily. We will not be back. read more

Great Brunch find! Such a great little gem not far from Lakeway! We found this place while renting a home in Lakeway and we were all in the mood for brunch and did not want to drive far! This place has the cutest patio with an amazing fan and misting system which made it soooo comfortable to enjoy a lengthy brunch outside! The food was so great, try the fried cornbread app and the avocado toast! Yum! We had 4 kids with us and they loved playing just off the back patio! I have to be honest and I feel bad about it because we used to LOVE this place. And I know COVID has been hard on the restaurant business. But man, 3 times in a row this place has totally disappointed. Service is not even close to what it used to be- all the staff seems to have changed since pre-COVID. Food has been different also. The Brussels sprouts seem to be a different recipe but they don't mention that on the menu- also totally over fried (that was one visit, along with some really spotty service). On a second visit. The cornbread bites were way over cooked and when we mentioned this the waiter made a big deal about the fact that he wasn't going to charge us for the replacement order (duh?!). That same visit, we ordered pancakes that were also way over cooked. On the third visit (today), I had a glass of white wine which was delicious. I ordered a second one and it came out warm- not even close to cold. When I let the waiter know, he said they had just gotten a new shipment and none of them were cold yet (that would have been nice to know ahead of time). So, I looked at the red wine instead and ordered a cab that was on the menu as being sold by the glass but he told me they don't sell it by the glass anymore because his boss told him not to. Not to mention, it took us 10 minutes AFTER they brought food out to get silverware and napkins. I kind of give up. read more

For a patty advertised as 1/2 lb it seemed a bit small but it was very tasty.The chili was OK. Kind of tasted like it came from a can. Although the waitress was super nice, the service was not very attentive. The staff suggested outside seating which is where most customers sat. However, the staff mostly stayed inside with the AC while customers sat outside in the heat. The staff came out once in a while but there were long stretches when there was no one outside yet most of the Customers were outside. So above average food but below average service. read more
