We visited the hill country for bluebonnet blooms and stopped here for lunch. This is a huge restaurant with plenty of seating both indoor and outdoor. There's is also a patio with some seating available which has a great ambience. We did a walk in around 2 pm. Ordered tortilla chips and Salsa, Chile Relleno and a veggie salad. Absolute worst service ever. My daughter and o went in at about 2:50 pm for late lunch. I realize this is shift change time. However, at the host stand we stood unacknowledged for awhile, despite two employees within view and earshot until someone bustled up from the dining room and asked how many. I told her "two" and she walked us to a 2-top where we'd be seated across from each other and dropped 2 menus onto the table and kept walking. I looked around for a 4-top since my daughter has special needs and I need to help her eat. I didn't see any in that dining area, so I looked around for the woman who I didn't see either. A waiter walked up to The table next to us and looked at me looking lost, and I said, "we need some help." He kind of stared at me for a second then turned around to his table. So I picked up the menus and silverware and walked into the next dining room where some folks were sitting and there were tables. One employee looked confused at what I was doing there and I explained my issue, at which point she told me that that area was closed and we couldn't sit there and there was nothing available. So the woman who disappeared re-appeared, reiterated that we couldn't sit there, and so I told her I guessed we could sit outside, even though it was 95 degrees. She brought out chips and salsa and then we just sat there. And sat there. And sat there. No one came to ask for drinks and at this point I was fuming. I left my daughter at the table and went inside to find someone and I swear there were 5 people standing there, including the waiter who turned away from me, just looking at me. No one asked what I needed or if they could help me. (I had decided to leave before I did this, but my daughter wanted to stay.) Finally a guy who clearly just arrived there asked what I needed and I told him we'd been sitting outside for a long time without any service, and at exactly that time someone finally walked up to our table. I told the new guy at the host stand that our experience was really sucking. The waiter who came was friendly but scarce, and we got the spoon I asked for so my daughter could manage her own rice once we had finished the meal. We then waited a very long time for our check and I had to explain to my daughter over and over that we couldn't leave til we paid the bill. When I did, I had the options of selecting a 20, 25 or 28 percent tip, which I found ludicrous given the absolute epic lack of service. I think it may be the worst I've ever had. Not sure about training and culture there, but it was an amazing example from start to finish of an entire staff who had perfected mediocrity and ambivalence. read more

We were in the area. That is all. This version of Maudie's caters to the local clientele. It's big. It's loud. It's busy (on a Tuesday night? Is Rosie's closed?) More space than staff and it shows with the wait times, slow table turnover, and impersonal service. But the margs are good and the menu is the same, although execution is somewhat lacking. Next time I'm in the mood I'll head back to Tarrytown where Maudie's hits 5 stars every time. Or maybe South Lamar to visit her 4 star weird uncle. read more

I enjoy Maudie's at their many locations. This however lost its flare with me this morning. Food was just ok this morning. There were two adults and a child in our group. I ordered Sausage Migas w/ queso. This is my usual for breakfast at Maudie's. Most other locations pour the queso over the dish. Today, it was served on the side in a thimble size dish. Not what I was expecting. Food was PAR. An unsweet tea was ordered with lime but only came with a lemon. I had to ask for sweetener. The child menu was given with something to use to entertain the child. Lastly, I was not given the chance to review the itemized bill before paying. Service was definitely sub-PAR. read more

The service was excellent the food was good but the one thing I did not like was a lot of leaves on the bench I was sitting on. Frankly I found it to be a problem because there was flies where there was food left by the previous person that sat there. This is the reason why I'm giving 4 stars I order the Margarita the nachos and also the sour cream enchilada chicken which is my very favorite but how could I get into my food if there's food with flies right on the same bench I'm sitting on. Marty's need to be mindful of cleaning up after diners. So here's my gripe I will give them more chances of course because this is one of my best restaurants that I really like to eat besides several other Mexican restaurants that are my favorites in the area but frankly the manager should be aware that cleanup is important. I also want to stress that the fact that I made the effort to try to brush off all the leaves that were on the bench. Let that be known but my dish was delicious the nachos were flavorable except I didn't realize they put nachos with a bunch of big huge jalapenos I'm not used to that. Our service was excellent, and the food was really good! We got nachos Compuestos and a frozen margarita each. Like any restaurant you get your favorites some things are great. Some things aren't but we really loved this one so we're giving a good rating. We enjoy the smarties here in the hill country. As outside seating and inside seating or you can sit by the bar. We love the breakfast here the eggs are fresh, local eggs, bright orange, and not greasy. The frozen margaritas are always good, a fun refreshing summer drink. read more

Parking is great. Upon walking in, there was an odor (not good). They have indoor and outdoor seating. We were greeted quickly and seated. We were put right next to the restrooms, which isn't the best, but not horrible. We looked over the menu, and ordered. They provide chips and salsa, so we had something to snack on while we waited. Our food came out and the cheese in the quesadillas is a bit different, almost queso like. I got the nachos, and they were okay. The meat wasn't distributed evenly, and the toppings were coated all over specific chips. They offer swirl margaritas. But they just do puree with the house mix on top, they don't swirl it. We arrived super hungry at lunchtime Sunday and were greeted and seated quickly. We sat inside, but still had a beautiful view of the hill country. There is also a serene patio with a fountain and beautiful plants to look at. We started with queso, which was delicious and warm and hit the spot with their perfectly crispy tortilla chips. I've been coming to Maudies for a long long time. Ordered chicken fajita tacos which I love and there were served on the grossest plate I've ever seen. I thought it was dirty all around the edges .. showed it to the server who blew it off making an excuse that sometimes the plates get burnt on edges. What???? Weak excuse and made the meal unappetizing. At the end of service he offered to throw the plate out?? But it was ok to serve me my meal on?? I've always liked Maudie's, free chips and salsa and their salsa is really good. The food always comes out quick and the price is good. I always get the skinny Sheryl but this time I tried something different and I like it. I got the CARNE GUISADA, which is great. They have staff are always sweet and the servers are good. We have lived in the Hill Country for a long time and never went to Maudies because the reviews are pretty scary. We decided to give it a shot today looking for some good Mexican food, nothing fancy just tacos, chips & salsa, margaritas and maybe a good tortilla soup. Maudie's was exactly that! It was fast, it was good, the server was very friendly and seemed to know quite a few of the other patrons and was telling them he'd see them next week. It's nice seeing regulars at a restaurant- you don't find that often anymore. We decided this will be our go to for a fast, no frills, good Mexican meal. I had my Mother's Memorial Celebration after the service in their private room upstairs. They had both inside and outside seating and the weather was gorgeous. We had a a Fajita Buffet for 30 with rice, beans , guacamole, queso, tacquitos. & Tres Leches cake. It was all delicious! We were attended by Luis, an excellent manager. We have been here a few times since moving to Lakeway. Our first experience was pleasant. My husband and I went on a weekday after a long day of work and wanted a quick Mexican food fix and drinks. Overall, it was a good experience, except that the service was very slow. The second time was when we brought my family who was visiting from out of town. Our waitress was gracious, kind, and patient the entire time, which we truly appreciated. Despite our big group of family, she handled everything with such grace and that was wonderful. The chips and salsa were a hit. The chips are thin and crispy, making them very easy to keep munching on before your food arrives and then suddenly you are already full. The main plates were average. I ended up returning what I originally ordered because it did not turn out as expected. I got the shrimp tacos instead and asked for no sauce, but they still came with sauce. My family seemed to enjoy their food, but no one had any standout or memorable comments about their dishes. Unfortunately, the food runner who brought out our plates seemed to be having a rough day. He was extremely rushed and slammed the dishes down very abruptly in front of my family and rushed away quickly. It was unusual and left us uncomfortable. I met a girlfriend here for lunch. It was after the "lunch rush"- around 1:00, so we didn't have trouble getting a table. Our waiter was friendly. Chips and salsa were solid. I ordered a Skinny Sheryl (lunch special) with all zucchini and no rice. While we were waiting, I accidentally dropped my fork. Within a few minutes, a new setting was brought over...by a random waitstaff...not even our waiter. My friend loves her Diet Coke and while she was 1/2 through with drink number one, they brought her a second one! Thanks for the great service today! My food was yummy. She was just plain rude. From reading the reviews seems to be an issue at this location. And yes when we left three workers were standing at the hostess desk. This is a great weekend brunch option. Good hot sauce, terrific breakfast options including pancakes. This location has a cute patio and is so close to shopping at the Hill Country Galleria. The family met up for dinner last night (Wednesday night) at Maudie's in Bee Cave. The restaurant was busy at 6PM as we had expected. Staff were great, very friendly and all working so hard. The food was great as always! For a simple quick Tex-mex meal, you can't go wrong! Our table had Mahi mahi tacos, chicken power bowl, beef fajitas, tacos and enchiladas! Fantastic experience here Tuesday afternoon. We came about 30 minutes into happy hour and were greeted by an enthusiastic waitress. After confirming that happy hour menu was indeed underway, we asked for her recommendations, which were "bang for the buck"-oriented. We went with her recommendations and ordered strictly from the happy hour menu. We went with the Nachos Compuestos and Flaultitas, which served as our lunch and supper. The serving sizes were huge, especially on the nachos. That could easily have been a meal for two. We also tried the Mexican Martinis and were pleased, not only with getting two margaritas apiece out of each shaker, but at the quality of the margarita itself. Our waitress recommended this choice because it had the best quality of tequila available on Happy Hour pricing. We chose to use a $10 gift card my date received for Christmas, and it was taken without complaint. $15 on beverages, $12 on food. Questionable service - potential racist Me and my spouse dined at this restaurant on 14th March 2026 evening around 6:00pm. We were seated outside by our choice. It took a while for the server to attend us; although it didn't appear as busy as other times we had been here at this restaurant. We ordered drinks and by default the chips and salsa were served. The server brought the drinks but no straws. We requested the straw and requested more salsa for the chips . He acknowledged and yet did not bring at all. Whereas the table next to ours , they asked to bring straws etc; which he was prompt . He kept ignoring us repeatedly by not showing up to our table; whereas he was attending every other table promptly. Later on, we finished our meals and waited for 20 minutes to get our check. That's when I reminded him that he missed out on straws and salsa etc. he neither acknowledged nor apologized. Simply ignored my comments and walked off with the payment I made... I'm Asian American and it was distinctly visible such an arrogant or ignorant behavior. I'm regular customer at this restaurant. The special was fully loaded with white chicken on fresh tortillas with side of guac. It was okay and worth the value. The tortilla soup on the hand could use some improvements and as is, as basic as it gets. For a large bowl, the broth was not hot as soups should be kept and served, the broth a light chicken flavor, some chicken, a few thin slices of avocado, and a clump of melt cheese. Best part the tea was fresh. Bathrooms were needing attention. Maybe we just dropped in on an off night. We had a toddler with us so i asked for a booth. Still tried sitting us at a table. Had to say it 3 times. Was not busy came around 8pm Friday night on a road trip back home. Definitely a different version of tex mex. Everything was very salted. Mahi was overly cooked. Could only taste salt. Even the taco meat was overly spiced. Did not enjoy the salsa, very very spicy and bitter. Borracho beans were ok. Queso was meh. Service was hard to find. Restaurant was big. My, my. Haven't eaten here since the soccer moms allowed to climb over our seats to get their way. That wasn't an issue today, but nearly every expectation was. Marg rocks tasted like floor cleaner...cheap mix? I had it replaced with a ranch water...that tasted like it was sugar-free from can or had fake sweetener in it. Puzzling! Left it on the table to cure. Then the food, that was stuck between tasteless, artificial flavor to just barely edible. The service was acceptable, but the rest was tired and uneventful. Maudie's Hill Country is a controversial place. People either love it or hate it. I had an outstanding time and thought my meal was absolutely first rate. I loved the room. * * * There is no disagreement about the room whatsoever. It is one of the most beautiful Mexican restaurants in the Austin Area. They have a garden with a waterfall and a spectacular Hill Country view. The inside is dark and done pseudo-Tiki hut. The magic comes from the lighting fixtures. These look like a Durian (and are about the size of a Durian.) They are made of darkened sheet metal. Each pore on the Durian is a punched hole. The holes are filled with blue and yellow colored glass. So most of the light is blocked and the light that does emit comes from 100 teeny tiny blue and yellow stained glass windows. I could look at the Durian lights all day and all night. Assuming I am not out in the garden looking at the waterfall and the view. * * * Service and food are the big items of dispute. I had a server named Rae who was an absolute angel. I left her a 30% tip, which I almost never do. (I had just gotten off the road from running - she could see I was majorly dehydrated and immediately got me two large size ice waters. An absolute saint that woman.) My nachos compuestos were one of the most original platings of nachos I have seen. Huge long chips On the Border style. Almost certainly home made. The jalapenos are Mexican canned ones served whole cut in long quarters. No nacho slices here. Real Mexican canned whole jalapenos are actually very good. They are bred mild but when you eat that much jalapeno at a time, you get plenty of kick. They then pour on the other Nacho toppings and there are quite a lot of them. This is a huge huge plate not just one minor appetizer to build your tab. The toppings include brocciflower - which I was not expecting. I also think the house spiced bean dip makes a subtle appearance. The final product was completely outstanding ... Some of the most interesting nachos I have had in years. * * * So if the house recipes are good (at least for nachos) , and they have at least one wonderful server, Why do half of the people report horrible terrible food and service? My Guess - and I think I am probably close to the truth here. THE BEE CAVE CURSE. * * * What is the Bee Cave Curse? Bee Cave has been settled with 99 million super-rich households all in about five years. There is very little working class population. And even if there were to be a working class population, there is no place to house them. The cost of housing in Bee Cave is exorbitant. So local restaurants and stores have to draw from whatever workers they can get from the Hill Country. Alternatively, they have to draw from Austin, Del Valle, East Round Rock or San Marcos or Georgetown. Those workers could be working super-lucrative construction jobs. If they are in retail, 9000 big box stores and competing restaurants want them. So it is very hard to get good help in Bee Cave. Bee Cave residents complain about the workmanship in their freshly constructed houses. This is because the skilled construction labor is not there. Under these conditions, restaurant quality will go up and down and up and down like a ping pong ball. When you have someone good, you can be fantastic. A rival employer hires your good person, or your good person leaves to go to school or your good person has a fight with your manager, And the replacement could be just awful. The one Bee Cave restaurant I know with consistent good food is the exception that proves the rule. It is a family Chinese restaurant where the same Chinese family stays with the establishment permanently because they are the owners. This gives them consistency and quality. The restaurant managers who have to hire whomever the labor market offers have to roll the dice and take what they get. When Maudies can get good people, it is an absolutely outstanding place. I give it a massive massive thumbs up. But there is a reason that that family owned Mexican food truck in Del Valle is that good. They are right next to where all the labor lives. (And if they are a food truck, the owner and her husband are doing all the work anyway.) Live in a gated community far away from poor people And there is no one around to cook you dinner in your restaurant. read more
