We noticed this was the only place that was open til a later time so we gave it a try. Place was hidden upstairs, dim environment, quiet, & relaxing. We were cordially greeted by the staff. Menu served a good amount of different options to choose from. Wine list was pretty extensive. They also had a wall of many different regions of wines to choose from if you decide to purchase. We opted for the charcuterie platter & a bottle of old world red wine to share. The platter was solid & it offered more than enough for us to finish. Wine paired well with platter. I'd come back again if I was in the area.

Unfortunately, Shift became one I'll never forget for the wrong reasons. Our day couldn't have been further from what the staff assumed. We spent the morning hiking, went back to rest, explored a local bookstore, grabbed ice cream, and walked to our dinner reservation. Not one alcoholic drink had been consumed by anyone in our group the entire day. Not one. We also had a child with us. The only conversation we had with the host before being seated was asking whether it was okay that we had arrived about twenty minutes early for our reservation. We were polite, excited, and looking forward to dinner. Then my husband ordered a beer. The waitress immediately refused because she claimed the hostess believed my husbands speech and mannerisms meant he was intoxicated. Read that again. A guest who had consumed zero alcohol all day was judged to be intoxicated. I understand the responsibility restaurants have. If someone is genuinely impaired, absolutely don't serve them. Every responsible restaurant should protect its guests and its liquor license. But there is an equally important responsibility that seems to have been forgotten: making sure your judgment is actually right before labeling someone. There was no bar crawl. No cocktails beforehand. No wine tasting. No brewery stop. No hidden drinks. There wasn't even one drink. We left feeling embarrassed, confused, and honestly caught off guard. Not because a beer was refused, but because a person was reduced to an assumption based solely on how they naturally presented themselves. Here's what makes the experience even harder to understand. After leaving Shift, we walked to Atria, where we remained for approximately two hours. We talked, enjoyed ourselves, and spent the evening there without issue. If someone in our party had truly been intoxicated wouldn't that have been obvious there as well? It wasn't. Food can be good. Cocktails can be creative. Service can be polished. None of that matters if hospitality disappears the moment someone doesn't fit your expectation of what a guest "should" look or sound like. Maybe perhaps because we weren't locals we seemed off ? To anyone considering Shift, especially if you're traveling with someone whose speech, mannerisms, or disability could be misunderstood, know that this was our experience. I hope the restaurant reflects on what happened and asks itself a difficult question: How many guests have we mistaken for being intoxicated when, in reality, they simply communicated differently? Because that's not just a missed beer. That's a missed opportunity to treat someone with dignity. I came to Flagstaff excited to discover one of its most " creative" restaurants. Instead, I left wondering how quickly a restaurant built on hospitality could make a guest feel so unwelcome. Simply , because my husband is a restaurant manager in Las Vegas, who has managed restaurants like Yellowtail, Herbs&Rye, Gjelina, and Edo we left out of respect for the industry. However, we should have got our deposit automatically refunded. Next time, take the time. Take the time to care. If a staff member is under this assumption, management intervene not to just follow said assumption and repeat what she said, but to hold an actual conversation with your guest, to evaluate , to observe, to understand. I promise you, that would change so many things for you.

It was a generous serving over spaghetti. On the positive side the thinly pounded breast was nicely fried- not heavy at all. There was minimal sauce on the chicken and on the spaghetti leading it to be quite under- flavored, as a local guide and others have stated. Overall, I think the restaurant has great promise. As it stands, I give it 3.5 stars.

They also have a location over at Dark Sky Brewing Co. Pizzicletta makes made-to-order Neapolitan pizzas. They have a variety of pizza creations on their menu. They also make their own gelato. We started our evening with a Burrata Caprese - a favorite of mine. I had my eye on the their Diavola pizza while looking at the menu. It has both chili oil and honey pecorino to make it both sweet and spicy. Our server recommended adding pesto to it which was a great suggestion. I ended my night with a coffee gelato. Our overall Pizzicletta experience was wonderful. Seating here at Pizzicletta is very limited. Be prepared to wait a little. They have both indoor and outdoor seating.

Since my last review, the owner has done a good job of correcting his employees' mistakes. A friend of mine who was wrongfully thrown out two years ago was welcomed back by the owner. Since then, this friend has gone to Hops regularly without any trouble from the staff. That is, until recently. The other day, some employees asks my friend to leave the bar without giving any reason for this request. When the staff was asked why he was being forced out, they refused to answer. This kind of behavior on the part of the bar staff is unacceptable and may even be against the law. On top of that, one female server was seen drinking with other customers, and she seemed pretty drunk at the time. In fact, she was one of the same servers who tried to throw my friend out without cause. Now I don't need to tell you how unprofessional it is for servers to drink with customers while on duty. But that's not important right now. The important thing is that there was no reason for anyone to be chasing my friend out of the bar. The law says that people can only be thrown out of bars if, during their bar visit, they are: drunk, lewd, violent, boisterous, or anything else that rises to the level of being drunk, lewd, violent, or boisterous. But my friend was none of those things. And yet the servers at Hops kicked him out anyway. Only this time, my friend never got a response back after complaining to the owner. Does this sound like the type of place you'd want to go for a night out? I think not. Judging by some of the other recent reviews of this place, my friend and I are definitely not alone in thinking that way. read more

HOB had my favorite IPA on tap, (Ninkasi Total Domination). Started chatting with the staff and wound up also meeting the owner, very friendly nice people. Suggested dinner at another local brewery. Been here a couple of times, the atmosphere is nice, and is dog friendly. The first time here the service was not very good but the selection of beers and the fact you can taste them first is a plus. The second time around the service was better and the beers were changed so I got to taste a couple more before I chose which one to drink. Bring your dog, drink a beer, sit on their patio (which is pretty small, so get there early!). It's right off the street - but you can park in the neighborhood if you want to stay and not pay for parking. Very nice staff - and a huge selection - you can stare at the menu for 10 minutes before deciding. read more
