Josephine's is a must eat at in Flagstaff. The food is just so delicious. Most things are made in house like the biscuits and the amazing jam. You have to try to jam if you go for brunch. Weekend brunch is so good. There is a large patio if the weather is nice. And they have happy hour specials out there during the week. Service was good. Once again, they never disappoint in culinary excellence. We have been coming here every time we are in Flagstaff. They offer both inside and great patio dining. If it's cool outside, they have heaters available. The menu is eclectic continental cuisine. Their filet is superb. Cooked to perfection, tender and juicy. Served over homemade mashed potatoes with both sauté s seasonal vegetables, and, a truly wonderful red wine Demi-glacé and crimini mushrooms. The surf and turf was also excellent. Crab cake topped with a petite filet and two large mushrooms. My only suggestions would be to cook the carrots a little more with some seasoning. The cuisine is a mix of new American and Italian. My husband had the crab cakes, and I had the gnocci. They were both delicious, but the crab cake was my fav. For dessert, we had the zeppoles and baklava. They were absolutely delicious! The zeppoles have a delicious homemade jam, and the baklava has a delicious brie that any cheese lover would enjoy. Staff was so friendly, gave good recommendations on food and cocktails, but also more touristy information whilst visiting Flagstaff. My husband and I were excited to celebrate our anniversary at Josephine's. We spend a lot of time in Flag and this was our first time visiting Josephine's. The menu looked great, but the appetizers and main entrees came out within minutes, literally minutes. It gave us the impression they were pre-made and just warmed when ordered. We weren't sure until my steak I had ordered medium-rare came out well done. Driving through Flagstaff on our way to Sedona and stopped at Josephine's. The food is outstanding! The service is attentive! It has a charming interior and porch located in an old house. My husband had the short rib and risotto which was perfectly cooked and beautifully plated. I had the ciopinno with risotto and it hands-down was the best of I've ever had. All the fish was fresh and perfectly cooked and the mussels were enormous. Not to mention, the broth alone was drinkable. I'm so glad we found Josephine's on our way through town. They're short of staff probably by design. The cocktail trailer is in moth balls and used for storage and door left open - how tacky . They can't hire someone to serve there customers? Cutting cost at every level but for a higher end restaurant this is a terrible choice. It's the details that separate the restaurant business from average to above average. They would not survive in the Valley where competition is fierce. I noticed tables on the patio dirty and employees walking by not caring to bus them. Food served warm border line cold sitting under a heat lamp but not HOT !! Got my order Surf and Turf order wrong but I got tired of waiting. My friend sent his steak back under cooked. What the hell is going on at this place? They were not slammed but I guess they didn't care and have taken us for granted. $358 dollars later and a mediocre meal and substandard service. Menu is old and stale and cutting service and food prices increased is a recipe for failure. With new restaurants opening in Flagstaff this place better dial up the service or will get left behind. We started with the crab cakes and fried green tomatoes, the latter of which came with fried panela cheese. The tomatoes and cheese were fried well with a nice crunchy, non greasy crust. I liked the crab cakes but I'd say they were just ok. I did like the sauces they came with (some type of Cajun sauce and an avocado, cilantro kind of sauce). We ordered the Diablo shrimp macaroni and cheese and the seafood stew. Both dishes were solid but we did get a little grit in the seafood stew. The macaroni and cheese was really lovely especially with the Diablo sauce. For drinks we went with the prickly pear margarita and yuzu mule as well as a glass of Pinot Grigio. The drinks were fine, my margarita wasn't very strong. For dessert we ordered the molten chocolate cake and I highly recommend this! Rich, chocolatey but light and not too sweet. Truly a solid choice in Flagstaff for a well constructed menu with ample choices. Interesting and varied seating areas, we chose outside but be aware there is some traffic noise there. Mixed green salad was incredibly fresh with goat cheese and candied walnuts (I think...), paired with a well pulled together dry vodka martini. Crabcakes were just good, had quite a bit of filler and lacked and crispness on the outside which I personally prefer. Would recommend a reservation for this place, it's well worth it. It was quite busy even on a weekday night. Sun was just setting so we opted for a table outside like most people did. It was getting a little chilly and they were accommodating by turning on a heat lamp for us. For drinks (not pictured), we got the Arizona Prickly Pear Marg, the Northern Breeze, and a glass of the Malbec. All great. As for the food, we had a bowl of the soup of the day. It was like a roasted butternut squash soup but blended with artichoke as well. Another app was the baked brie baklava. Unreal and a must-have here. The cheese paired well with the fresh fruit and the pistachio too. For entrees, we got their top items: French onion braised short ribs and achiote smoked pork osso bucco. Pros: - Location: Not far from "Hospital Hill" on North Humphreys Street. - Exterior: An old refurbished building which a sign said was on the National Registry. - Ambiance: Bustling yet cozy. A fairly large space with several dining rooms. - Menu: Medium size, but with lots of interesting choices. The kitchen thinks outside the box. - Food: Excellent. I started with a bowl of Salmon Chowder ($9.25)...creamy with some zip...followed by Diablo Shrimp Macaroni and Cheese ($35.50) with 5 shrimp and lots of pasta. It was advertised as very spicy, but I thought it was mild which was fine. My wife had a House salad ($7) with Southwestern Crab Cakes ($17.50). The Crab Cakes had a bit more kick than expected, but the duo was very filling. For dessert, we shared Limoncello Cheesecake ($9) which was quite good, though the syrup surrounding it was too gooey for our taste. To round things out, we had an order of Garlic Bread (4 slices $3.50) and a bottle of Chardonnay from Ferrari Carano ($49) which blended well with everything. - Service: Kyra was very personable and paid close attention to us despite having many tables. - Price and Value: Reasonable.
