Came here for dinner with some friends. The nice thing about this being a brewery and restaurant is that you can sit at the bar and have a drink while you wait for your table or wait for your friends to arrive! There were six of us in total, and they had a booth that fit the size of our party perfectly. Service was a bit lacking. We felt like we weren't really checked on and had to constantly wave down our server for water refills, the check, etc. Food: - Smoked Duck and Andouille Gumbo - Basmati rice, charred onion, duck, and Andouille sausage with a side of grilled corn bread. To be honest, this dish was pretty disappointing. A couple of other people in my party agreed that something tasted off, but we couldn't quite put our finger on what it was. The flavor was just not appealing. - Southern Fried Catfish - Anson Mills Sea Island red peas, Carolina gold rice, spigarello, and creole mustard sauce. To sum it up, it was A-OK. The catfish itself was pretty good, but the other ingredients were mediocre. - Chocolate Brioche Bread Pudding - Bread pudding is served with crème anglaise and whipped cream in an iron skillet. This place is "Hop"ing for sure even on a weekday afternoon! Lots of craft beer selection, nice service, food is ok. Came here with a coworker one afternoon after work to check out some of their craft beer selection as my coworker was raving about this place. They had a HUGE selection on tap, and I was told that many of them are seasonal and not always on tap, which is cool if you like variety. I tried several of the light fruity ones and they were all really tasty and I don't even like beer. As for food, we ordered the short rib, brussel sprouts and the burger. The short ribs was smoked to perfection, moist and flavorful. Love it! The brussel sprouts were also really tasty made with bacon bits, how could it not be good? The burger was so so, didn't like it. Service was attentive, our server was able to recommend things based on what you like which is pretty cool. The interior is modern and industrial equipped with lots of TV for sport fans. The large silver brewing tanks are really cool to see. Definitely a hip spot! Parking was hard to find, so plan accordingly. read more

Love, love, love this little joint. Been here half a dozen times and I can't get enough of this place. What I loved: 1) Shrimp dish. It's these large shrimp bathing in this flavorful creamy, tomatoey broth. It comes with a freshly toasted baguette for dipping. I've learned that I need to order extra bread when I place the order because what normally comes with it is not enough for me. And, if I eat enough bread, it could easily be a meal. 2) Poutine - Can't go wrong with torn potato pieces, covered in gravy with chunks of pork. I would have liked a little more gravy on it, but it was still delicious as served. 3) cheese flatbread was perfect for the kiddos. Basically pizza without sauce (probably why the kids loved it). 4) Cornbread, hot, buttery, fresh and sweet! 5) meat platter for two-it's a good sampler of everything! 6) the Olive app I hear is really tasty. My fiend ordered but not a fan of olives so can't speak to that. The atmosphere is very casual and friendly, I can bring my kids and not feel guilty about them Disrupting other guests since it's pretty noisy inside. The bench seating is good for the kids too. Pricing isn't too bad. They also have a large beer selection. Haven't fined with drinks but I can imagine it's a popular spot to watch various sporting events. Review for Breakfast: Not the best options... we had no choice since they only had their breakfast menu when we arrived. The breakfast choices are expensive to begin with, then cost extra to add things like meat to them. Our server was brand new, so I am not sure if there was a misunderstanding from him, but we were told that the Jambalaya scramble only included what was listed for the description (aged cheddar, arugula, toast), and you would have to add andouille sausage to if if desired, making it a pretty expensive item ($11 + $5 add). $11 for scrambled eggs with cheese and arugula is expensive - and how is that jambalaya?? Either we were misinformed, and the menu should state it includes sausage (as it should with its name), or it should be renamed. In any case, the best option appeared to be the breakfast burrito ($15), which all 3 of us ordered with chicken. Very expensive burrito and I was very let down to find barely any chicken in it. Apparently one of the burrito had plenty of chicken, but I am reviewing my experience and paying $15 for a potato burrito. It was also odd to have half the burrito with salsa on top, and the other half with gauc on top. We would have preferred these items on the side. The salsa was sort of sweet and not really enjoyed or preferred for the burrito flavor. Overall, a very expensive and mediocre breakfast. I wish we could have ordered from the lunch menu, which looked awesome. Most of the guests started packing in after noon hit, and all the food being delivered made me envious. So, skip breakfast, come for lunch/dinner. I did get "it's Hazy, not Lazy" (NE-style IPA) which had the appearance of a heff and I felt the flavor was perfectly explained by the description. So if the description appeals to you, you will not be let down. I know this place is super popular and has great beer and offerings. I really liked the atmosphere, it is very child-friendly and light and bright which the charm of the old diner's architecture. I finally had the chance to come to HopSaint after talking about it w/ a co-worker. I'm glad I did. HS is located on 190th St just West of Anza in Torrance, across from previously reviewed Big Mike's. We started off w/ the deviled eggs w/ smoked pork ($7) and the drumettes ($9). In addition, we had a couple of flights ($8) to determine what we wanted a full pour of later ($7). First of all, the deviled eggs were tasty AF. The smoked pork added crunch and saltiness to an already good thing: 5 Stars. Conversely, the wings were just OK. I prefer the drum of a wing that has more flavor: 3 Star. Thirdly, the beers were good, but the bartender short poured us. I fukn hate that!: 4 Stars on the beer, 2 Stars on the bartender. For our entrees, we ordered the smoked ribs ($13), the burger ($13), creole chicken sandwich ($13), and the catfish po'boy ($15 - only the latter is pictured). Each entrée comes with a side. I chose fried potatoes. We also ordered brussel sprouts to share ($10). My co-workers liked their entrees. The smoked ribs were tender, the burger was juicy & large, and the chicken sandwich was moist & tender: 4 Stars. On the other hand, I thought my catfish sandwich tasted OK but was overpriced. It was blackened vs fried, which left it a bit dry. I asked for a sauce to rescue it and it did the trick. However, a traditional catfish po'boy would be fried, the lettuce would be shredded, and the sandwich would have pickles and tartar or remoulade sauce: 3 Stars. Lastly, the fried potatoes were surprisingly very good. They were super crispy & piping hot. I was expecting more of a softer, breakfast potato texture in the center. I believe they were twice fried: 5 Stars. Regarding the brussel sprouts, they were winnahz. The portion was large for the price, they were crunchy & not overcooked, and the taste was fantastic: 5 Stars. The service from our waitress Lala was stellar. She was super nice, memorized all our orders w/o writing them down (no mistakes), and was very attentive. In addition, she was, ooh "lala", and had yours truly feeling some type of way (hope she remembered my name - LOL!): 5+++++ Stars. Regarding the ambiance, its much better here vs the local breweries like Dudes and Smog City. There are communal tables, a bar and tables of 2 & 4 for diners who want more privacy. Additionally, having a kitchen that makes good food is a big plus: 4 Stars. The awesome service from Lala trumps the miscues from the kitchen and the bar. This place is very tricky because you think it's just a brewery and a bar with standard bar food. But it's actually one of the best barbecue spots in South Bay. All their food is delicious and of course they have numerous beer on tap. But when it comes to the food, the second hand gym that people need to get into and try for themselves. They have pizzas barbecues burgers pulled pork. A ton of great stuff. So if you enjoy it beer or not, then go to Hop Saint brewery because the albiance is great. The service is always top notch but the food is excellent and they have outdoor seating. read more

HopSaint is a really well put together brewery restaurant nestled in a strip mall in Torrance on the way to the coast. The beer here is terrific and holds up to the top tier quality you expect from a South Bay brewery, especially in the city of Torrance, which is chalk full of tasty craft beer. We had the Cucumber Gose (mild cucumber infused golden sour) and their West coast IPA, Alternate Future (dry hopped with Mosaic, Amarillo and Gr. Blanc). Both were 5 star! But to top it all off, the food here is culinary magic. They have a big smoker out back and they're doing BBQ like it NEEDS to be done. I had the brisket dinner and the pulled pork poutine (alliteration? Hell yeah!). Both meats were smoked so well, you'd think you were in a deep pit joint in Texas. However! The star of the meal was their Southern fried Catfish! I know, not normally something that would just MAKE you need to go to a restaurant but trust me, this is the best Catfish on the planet. It's served on a bed of black beans and rice and topped with collared greens BUT the literal "secret sauce" is their creamy creole mustard sauce. It ties the whole dish together and just makes the super crispy Catfish so decadent along with the southern spiced flavors throughout the entire dish. Outstanding work at HopSaint! It'd pretty good especially since it's so close to my house...the only negative thing I would say is the menu...I wish they would change it up...its the samething...when they say " we have our specials" it really isn't a special..it's already on the menu. Plus bring your own ketchup...they give you a little "cap" container for ketchup and if you ask for more it's a charge. read more

Get a pint of the No Flocs Given and an order of the Killer Shrimp with an extra bread (if you ask nicely), and thank me later. No Flocs is a beautiful mosaic double IPA with an awesome mouthfeel and just the right amount of fruity and hoppy on the nose. The killer shrimp is the best combination of tomatoes and chilies I have eat as of late. I love the music, and the service was exceptional. read more

Went for drinks with coworkers for a sendoff get-together. 20 minutes into sitting down, we were told our table had been reserved and we'd have to leave in the next 15. They didn't offer us a new table or a new place to eat/drink without us having to ask them. It felt like it was more of our problem then it was really theirs. Then what I'm assuming was the manager, took over the clearing and aggressively removed our drinks and plates as time ticked closer to the reserved time (which I understand, if we'd been there for hours on end... but it was 20 minutes). Eventually, they had the three of us crowd around one barrel and said they'd offer us another stool. They never gave us the stool, so I grabbed one from another table so the three of us could sit. Then the manager swapped one of our stools (taller than the table) to replace the stool that was vacant from the one I took (after they never gave me one). Zero offers to discount us for the inconvenience. Again, it felt like we were inconveniencing them. This is only two stars, because the server was awesome (and was at no fault for this treatment, she was just following managers orders, and the beer WAS good), but I'd never go back again for a dine-in experience. So, in conclusion: make reservations or they'll push you out. read more

Bark of the smoked ribs was a bit too hard, so hard it couldn't be chewed.. Disappointed but perhaps it's not always like that way.. Good sauce. Pulled pork sandwich with coleslaw $12.. Similar flavor to the ribs, toasted bun was nothing special. Chicken sandwich with coleslaw $14.. Good but no avocado as advertised Lots of beer choices. Came here on a week night with some girlfriends. The food was fab. The pork poutine was the best. Of course, we saved room for the key lime pie which had a beautiful unique presentation. (see pics below). I can't say anything about the beer (I'm not a beer drinker) but my friends liked it and the wine selection was great! The ambiance is here is fun. Décor is modern and this place is very spacious. Our server was good. I think it was a busy night but she was very helpful with her recommendations. I would definitely come back again! This is truly a little gem in the Redondo Beach area. Located on the same plaza as the 99 cent store I would never guess this place was as popular. Thursday night the entire place is busy with a wait for a table. They serve beer and wine .. large selection of beer. I had a Riesling which had the perfect blend of sweet to compliment my food. Everything was very good.. especially the short rib, mushrooms and Brussel sprouts. I was a huge fan of the seasonal cherry pie. I know I shouldn't have had it but the fact that it was delicious made me not regret the high calorie count. Service was friendly and the place has a great vibe. Love this place. Been here a few times and the experience has been stellar. Not only do they serve great beer, but food is also excellent. Service is friendly and atmosphere lively. They're located on strip lot with ample parking both front and back. Good size place with great vibe. It gets really busy on weekends, but if you sit at the bar, you usually don't have to wait too long for your table. Two pints of beer in and our table is often times ready by then. You can also dine at the bar or sit at huge communal table. The beer selection is great, with a bunch of good drafts including their own house drafts. There are about 8-10 beers that are made by the brewery. You can sample them in flight of beer for $5 each. I've tried most of them and my favorite include -Five magic, pure intention, tap into the power of ipa, rock you like hurricane. Food is better than most brewery which probably explains why this place is so popular. The fried catfish plate, hopsaint burger and steak salad are fantastic. Everything perfectly executed and tasty. The bbq pulled pork poutine is absolutely delicious and a must. I had this twice now and can't get enough of it. Juicy pulled pork, crispy fries and outstanding gravy. What's there not to like? Good portions and reasonably price too. My only complaint is dessert is minimal. LOL! Their brownie is way too sweet for my taste buds and can easily put you in diabetic coma. Excellent Southern food with a flair and hospitality! I went for the first time for lunch on a Thursday with a friend. It will not be the last time for either of us. I know it sounds crazy but we did not order beer... something I may do on my next visit. The food menu is versatile and creative. I grew up in Texas, and the smell of the smoked brisket that greeted me at the door took me back to all the barbeque shacks on the sides of the roads that had some of the best barbeque. Hopsaint rivals them for sure and probably has the best smoked brisket I've had in my nearly 30 years in Southern California... and it's just down the road! As hard as it was to resist the brisket for lunch (more about that in a minute), I ordered the fried catfish that includes a side of smoked mustard greens and beans and rice. As a Southern girl at heart, finding fried catfish with cornmeal or corn flour is a challenge here in Southern California, and the few places that offer it do not always get it right or are very expensive or are a decent drive away from me. Hopsaint knocked it out of the ballpark. I was in heaven... or on my parents' big front porch for a family fish fry. Food that takes you home is pretty special in my book. The smoked mustard greens were flavorful and unique; they were not braised or laden with fat, and were full of flavor. The beans and rice were spot on, and that says a lot from someone who grew up eating beans and rice next to Cajun Country. My friend ordered the pulled pork sandwich, and let me have a small bit of it. Oh my goodness! The pork was tender, sweet and with a nice little kick. It had the perfect bit of crispy bits, too, and so very moist. I think we'll be making many more visits here. Oh, and as for the brisket, I ordered the brisket daily special as takeout to have the next day. I made the mistake of taking a peak into the container later that night, and succumbed to the call of the brisket. The brisket had that lovely smoke flavor throughout, but not overpowering. The meat was succulent with a great balance oof lean and less lean (where the umami lives). There was a perfect amount of char on the outside to seal in the flavors. The coleslaw, which I did have the next day, was quite flavorful and not too creamy. The portions for all of the food were generous. My only regret is that I did not come here sooner. read more

The staff are great...almost performance art the way our waiter regaled us with explaining the many specials of the day. One of the specials is a smoked pastrami, coleslaw, & gooey cheese on ciabatta bread which is yummy. They replaced the Thousand Island yuck with Deli mustard for me and that made all the difference. In the last few years, I noticed that there have been an increasing number of new gastropubs / breweries / bars in the Torrance area (e.g. Torrance Tavern, Hey 19 Public House, Local Kitchen, etc) and HopSaint Brewing is no exception. This microbrewery and gastropub first opened on late 2015 and replaced the former Billy's Deli & Cafe (https://www.yelp.com/biz/billys-deli-and-cafe-torrance). The menu puts a heavy emphasis on Cajuns-style cuisine (e.g. po' boy, gumbo, jambalaya, etc), but you will also find other options like flatbread, salads, sandwiches, etc. There's also a special "Day by Day BBQ" with one different BBQ selection for each day (smoked Jidori chicken on Monday after 5 PM, smoked brisket on Wednesday and Friday after 3 PM, BBQ plate on Thursday after 5 PM and Saturday after noon, and burnt-end chili on Sunday after noon). Interior was clean and modern. *** Pulled Pork Poutine (torn potatoes, beer-cheese, chives - $11): Pulled pork was A-OK. Roasted Chicken & Shrimp Jambalaya (holy trinity, andouille, tasso ham, anson mills grits - $15): Just a side note, holy trinity is a vegetable combination (onions, bell peppers, and celery) commonly used in Cajun cuisine. Personally jambalaya tasted more tomatoey than I expected and personally it was a pretty mediocre dish. *** This isn't a bad place to hang out after work, but I couldn't get myself excited about food. read more

The service is always good both when dining in and taking out (a go to for us in taking picnics to the Hollywood Bowl). HopSaint is a really awesome gastropub. The ambiance is very hip and upbeat and the food and beer are excellent. We had a group of 5 and we ordered a variety of things, brussels sprouts and spicy shrimp as starters. Both were excellent. The catfish entree was super as was the flatbread. The burger was one of the best I've ever had anywhere at any price. The seating is a bit unusual, long seats in the middle section flanked by small tables on the side plus s really nice bar area. So, you may be seated next to another group right at your side on the long seats but it was fine. Prices are medium but fair for the quality and quantity of food. Give it a try. Visited Hop Saint again and watched Golden State close out the Clippers while enjoying a solid meal and lively ambiance. The Brussel Sprouts are awesome, full of flavor with garlic cloves and apples, as is the Hawaiian flatbread. The catfish was terrific as well. We were a party of 3 and were able to get our own table. All in all a good experience. Will return for sure. Still love their burger the most. read more
