I'm all tan and smiling, and running from third base Birthday/Anniversary Dinner, Part 2 Country Songs Burger
    Mojo S.

I think I would've liked this place more had we not stopped for drinks and food a bit earlier. Because of that I found myself comparing what I ordered at Project Barley and what I had ordered at the precious location. I kind of found the burgers that had been talked up by my party a little lacking. My Country Songs burger ended up being mostly bbq sauce for the first few bites. That was because the smashed burgers came in at a little under weight. I think the ratio reached equilibrium by the last few bites but I wish they had gotten that problem a little ironed out. The service was okay as the server behind the counter seemed cordial, but the whole time it was a very infrequent occurrence to see them come out to the floor. The ambiance was off too. It was loud with the live musical and people talking loudly to get over the noise and lack of space. All in all, good burger or not, this just doesn't seem like my kind of food joint.

$5 burger on Monday. Normally $9. Flavorful and juicy. Would definitely get it if around!

Got a quick bite. Saw the sign that said Happy hour $5 burger on Monday and tried it. The burger is juicy and smashed. They have trivia on Monday night, but we didn't stay long enough to play. It seems like a cool dive bar and where the local hang out.

Project barley is a great vibe and to be honest in my opinion probably the most slept on dive bar in Los Angeles. Great spot and you have a view right by the water and marina at Redondo Beach that you can't get anywhere else. As far as the food, they say they are the best Smashburger in the Southbay, and in my opinion, that they do! The tacos were pretty good. The carnitas has the most flavor of all the taco options. It's easy to go right in and get your food quick right at the counter, they make the food, buzz your number , give you everything you want and have a tap full of drinks ready for you as well. Nice games. Great vibes. Great great spot. Cool themed nights.

I cannot say enough great things about Project Barley (and the "annex" - Next Door Bar aka NDB). It is a terrific local bar/restaurant! We are frequent visitors as we live in the neighborhood. Here are a few things I love that I want to share: 1) It's a fabulous place to throw a party! I recently threw my mom's 70th birthday party there at NDB. Huge shout out to the manager, Jess. I reached out to her asking if they could reserve a little space for us. She was extremely helpful and accommodating. She even let us set up early with some decorations - her flexibility and kindness were so appreciated! She also assigned us an amazing bartender - Kara! And she took great care of all of us. Thank you Jess and Kara!!! My mom and all our guests had a wonderful time. 2) During the day, they are family friendly which is a huge selling point for us. They have games and markets/crayons that the kids can use. 3) The food is really good! I like the chicken caesar wrap and the tacos. But it's all really good and high quality. Great job, chefs! 4) I appreciate that they have wine, as I am not a beer drinker. And most breweries only serve beer. 5) Having music/entertainment many nights per week is awesome. Always a good time. 6) As mentioned - but will again - the service is fantastic. We love to support our local businesses - this one is top notch. Go visit them. Cheers!

Tots. $5 for 10 of them.

Very chill and laid back vibe. Good spot to hit for a quick bite and a drink. Whether you're hanging out at the pier or on a lunch break. The setup is a little janky. You line up to order with the bartender, pay, take the pager, find a table, wipe it down because no one working here does, now wait for the pager to buzz, stand up, collect your food from the other side of the bar, and sit down and enjoy your food. Service is hit or miss; nothing special. Tables are always dirty, sticky, and wobbly. Of course they have a tip prompt screen when you order.l, aside from handing me my drink, what else does the bartender do that merits a tip? Serious question.

Went here for the first time and was not disappointed! The service was friendly and fast! They have a lot of beers on draft and the bartender was very helpful with helping me decide, as well as offering samples. It overlooks the marina and the sunset was beautiful. A good place to unwind.

Music was great on the date I visited. There were no cover charges. This is a family oriented establishment catering to a unique clientele. Families with kids, and those that enjoy a carefree afternoon at the beach with entertainment. Their menu offers a variety of selections. Their signature smash burger and Hotdogs with seasoned fries are popular with their patrons. They do offer food combo specials and beverage deals. I ordered the double smash burger, and hotdog with seasoned fries. Neither were greasy and both had a great flavor. The staff were friendly, and the atmosphere was happy and lively. The management of Project Barley is preparing for their 5 year anniversary. It's a small venue with a view of the docks and ocean. I recommend Project Barley for those that want to get out for an afternoon or evening to enjoy good food and entertainment with friends. I give Project Barley 3.5 stars due to a lack of eye appeal. The bench seating is torn or partially repaired with duct tape, and no restroom. There are restrooms a few shops down. All orders must be placed at the pos at counter. This is a beach pier ambiance with sights, and smells of the various venues along the dock of Redondo Beach pier.

Came here for the smash burger but also to check out the live music scene here too since I happen to be at the pier. The burger was ok but the fact that there is regularly scheduled live music here from local bands is really cool. Each of the three Project Barley locations are unique with each their own dynamic and vibe. Definitely worth dropping by if you're visiting the area or if you are a local. Check out their IG for updates on who's performing!

When you can't choose between beer cheese or Bavarian muster
    Val G.

Great place to hear music, enjoy a beer or wine and some good food. We had dinner previously so we did not eat a meal but we did end up ordering a pretzel with both the beer cheese sauce and the Bavarian mustard. I much prefer the Bavarian mustard. They seem to have some other great meals that I might want to come back to including the burger and breakfast. I had an amber ale that was really good. Sorry that I can't tell you what it was called but the sign was small and the suggestion came from one of the bartenders when I asked if they had a red or amber ale. The music was good and we enjoyed a nice cool night by the docks.

I drive by this place at least once a week and somehow never noticed it. I ordered the chili on my coworker's recommendation, and she was absolutely right--it was incredible. The flavors were rich and delicious, the portion was generous, and it came with cornbread that was the perfect complement. I left completely stuffed and very happy! I'm not much of a beer drinker, so I tried one of their guava seltzers (I wish I could remember the name!), and it was refreshing and delicious. The service really stood out as well. Our waitress was exceptional--friendly, attentive, and knowledgeable. She made great recommendations and handled our group effortlessly as coworkers arrived throughout lunch, greeting everyone with a smile and making sure we were all taken care of. Overall, this was a fantastic experience from start to finish. Great food, excellent service, and a welcoming atmosphere. I'll definitely be back to work my way through more of the menu. Highly recommend!

It's not terrible by any means, but it's hard to justify returning. The menu features some nice Southern-influenced dishes you don't typically see at every brewery. Highlights and thoughts on what we ordered: Green Beans Appetizer: Easily the star of the table--perfectly seasoned with a great crisp crunch. Other Starters & Mains: We also tried the Brussels sprouts, chipotle wings, duck gumbo, and the daily flatbread special (tomato and burrata). Everything was decent, but for the price, nothing blew us away. Famous Brisket Dinner: A bit of a letdown. It came strictly with coleslaw and no additional sides. The flavor was fine--middle of the road overall. Between two 4-beer flights, we sampled most of their standard and hoppy lineup. They clearly excel at West Coast IPAs. However, the pricing structure on tasters feels steep--$6 for a 5oz pour of their Double IPA is tough to swallow, especially when calculated to cost more per ounce than iconic Pliny the Younger, which most places charge a dollar per ounce (when distributed). To cap off the 3-star rating, the 4-pack of IPA I purchased to-go was canned two months prior. Any craft beer enthusiast knows hoppy profiles fall off noticeably over time, and a brewery should really be prioritizing fresh inventory for retail sales. Total damage came out to around $200 for two adults and a child. For that price point, the value just wasn't there, leaving us feeling like something was missing from the experience.

Plus, Emily Gilmore implied that it was…read morenitwit juice and Buffy devolved to a Cave person after drinking enchanted beer so these quasi-after-school specials taught me that heathens and their kin drink beer. Of course, I kid, beer can be a wonderful thing, I just rather do cocktails and shots. So I went to Sugar Monkey Brewing because of a different pull: a power point slide show where friends pitch their single friends to strangers for a chance at love or romp. So I went in not knowing much of Sugar Monkey Brewing and I left with clear understanding that this place is an industrial beer oasis near the beach. The contrast of sand and blue on the horizon and the present aluminum lining made me feel like I was seeing a new uncommon mixture that proved that clashing environments can gel to delight. I found parking easily. It was a Saturday early evening, and about a 5 minute walk was where I discovered my spot. I honestly hated that I had to walk those 5 minutes but the walk uplifted my spirits for the weather was California crisp and the air and sky and atmosphere felt safe and proper. I wondered if i had the right place? The streets looked like too industrial. Like I had gone to one of those places that had a lot of factories in rows, but not much else. But I turned a corner and there was Sugar Monkey. Then I realized that a brewery would probably look like a beer factory so this place, with all its steel and pumps, had found its home amongst beach skies. As I walked back to my car, later that evening, I was in slight awe at the pale light blue and orange sky. It was serene, and vast and somehow beach appropriate. The water tower iin a picture I took was a nice touch as it reminded me of the Animaniacs, especially Wakko and Dot. I arrived after the first presentation was on its way. I started to listen intently to understand the dynamics because this all seemed so weird yet plausible. Like a dating auction turned fun not hokey or corny? The person was hyping up her friend J. Apparently, he spoke many languages, and hiked and did all these other stuff that were meant to induce attractions. Then she asked, What can he do? And she then explained how she was going to make a joke and that no one needed to fear going to hell if they laughed. And she then reveal that the thing he can't do is SEE because he was blind. The joke was in good taste. The joke, at least to me, carried disability pride. She had revealed that he was different because his sight was different to a crowd of would be judges and suitors. The strength of the duo was refreshing, dare I say, more than the beach breeze. Being witness to this moment made me feel like I had seen a beautiful moment and one I never imagine I would see. And for this reason alone, my trip to Sugar Monkey was more than fun, it was heart-opening. The place itself is cool. Their outside was a huge garden like setting. The place had pool, however, the patio is crowded so I am not sure how people can play if too many people are there. Another thing I saw- that is a credit to this place- is that it had a wheelchair elevator. So if someone was chilling in the patio and wanted to chill in their wooded floor area- where the bar was they could use the wheelchair lift, if they could not use their legs. The place had also had kind of like an off-beat personality. It had a British phone, an astronaut that seemed to have hit a space that painted him with grafitti flare, and beers with names like green means go. I think I would go to this place again, for the beer and the air and to Karaoke. I loved this place and the activity it hosted!

I've tried a variety of menu items over multiple visits and haven't been disappointed. In fact, I'm genuinely surprised when I see complaints about the food on Yelp. It's good bar food done right, not a gourmet restaurant pretending to be something it's not. Needless to say, I'll be back. Actually, I already have been--many times. If you're looking for great beer, great people, a comfortable atmosphere, and solid food in Redondo Beach, this place is well worth a visit.

It's challenging to locate a good restaurant brewery that has the right atmosphere, making me willing to overlook certain aspects. Ambiance: Restaurant is cooly decorated! Very loud place despite not that filled up thoug. Quickly realized this is a family joint. The children both indoors & outdoors were horse playing and screeching (octaves of birds) which was very distracting. Not a good catch up spot for this reason hard to hear people you're with. Food: had tried the roast beef burger & the hot wings. Burger was hands down one of the juicest burgers ive had. Hot wings were interestedly baked not fried but very juicy and tasty. Service: you're not going to get alot of attention. I had to get the ketchup myself because I couldn't find anyone to help me. Also, I nearly left and canceled my second beer order because the waitress took over 10 minutes to pour it (I really believe she forgot) and by that time, I was pretty much finished with my meal and ready to leave. People will be interested to know they offer weekend happy hour it's 3-6 pm. I didn't look at the hh menu but you should explore it.
