I contracted with Horizon Construction & Remodeling to remodel my kitchen, which included all new cabinetry, countertops, backsplash, appliance installation, and lighting, plumbing, and electrical upgrades. Horizon also replaced cabinets in the dining room, removed blinds, and patched and painted several rooms. David was our project manager. I highly recommend working with both Horizon and David. He provided an accurate estimate for the work, started and completed the work on time, and was always pleasant and responsive when I had questions. It was my first experience with a kitchen remodel and David proved to be patient and kind, never making me feel like my questions were silly or naive. I hired Horizon to do a 500 sq ft home addition in 2003. While there are some hiccups, overall I am satisfied with the quality of the work and confident that the structure is sound. Just make sure that you include absolutely everything in the contract as it is much easier to negotiate before you sign. I am particularly pleased with the work of Nestor (painting and molding guy) and Jason (electrician) but disappointed that we can't move the furnace. They gave you a very clear estimate and broke down the payments in many phases which I appreciated. The communication with the project manager Michael was good but you did need to utilize your negotiation skills. I got a lot of compliments from the neighbors passing by my house and it was wonderful to move back to my familiar but better home. I am now waiting for them to add attic access which I didn't realize I needed (but was included in the project). Hopefully, it will be done soon. read more

I had the pleasure of working with Michaelangelo from Horizon Construction & Remodeling. Let me start with some context, my project was an 11 out of 10 on the difficulty scale. What started as a kitchen and living room remodel of a 1925 hillside home, turned into a full tear down and rebuild due to framing that turned out to be beyond repair when we were in the demo phase. My hillside city is notoriously difficult to work with, however, with persistence from the Horizon team (contractor, engineer and draftsman), we were able to get the sets of plans for a re-build house and two 85-foot retaining walls through the city's planning and building departments. What I really enjoyed with Horizon, is due to my budget constraints, I could not afford a full-blown architect and a separate interior designer, instead they had a unique in-house solution. They had a draftsman and engineer team for the plans, and I worked alongside the contractor to share my ideas on overall layout, door and window size and placement, fireplace location, and the bedroom and bathroom sizes, to get the plans right before we submitted them to the city for the approval process. They had all the know-how to comply with the current building standards, from seismic/earthquake proof strong walls, foundation and footings, and ultimately to were able to handle curveballs to meet certain requirements in my area (high fire risk and hillside). One of the things I loved about Mike was his team. His subcontractors were amazing, second to none. If I had a picture or a hand-drawn sketch, his Horizon team could bring it to life. I created an idea book with pictures I liked and had a binder on site, and Mike and his team was able to execute to perfection. He sketched out the cabinets, the islands, tile schemes, fixtures, and the images we put together came to life. Mike's hand-on approach turned my house from a dilapidated 95+ year old structure to a home design "magazine-worthy" home. We went up to 10 foot ceilings throughout, cathedral ceilings with an open concept in the kitchen and living room, extended master bathroom and closet, along with the 4 bedrooms and 2 baths. We also did two 85-foot long retaining walls, and over 1,500 feet of concrete flatwork and 3 exterior concrete staircases. Horizon turned a potential high-stress home rebuild into a masterpiece of home for my family. I cannot recommend Mike and Horizon Construction & Remodeling enough! It definitely was a lot of work, and it was not built in day, but I will forever be grateful for my forever home! A friend referred me to David at Horizon in 2017 when a bathroom renovation/upgrade was required after car accident. His team miraculously converted a 1965 bathroom into a show room design with a beautiful walk-in shower. It's a challenge with a one-bathroom condo but David & his team made it possible for me to stay in my home the entire time. He was always available by phone/text for even the smallest concern. I reached out to David again this year for repairs due to root damage from common area trees. Most of the damage was at the front of my house but I did ask David to remove the popcorn ceiling in my living/dining rooms where there was a crack in the middle of the condo. To match my new smooth ceiling, the living/dining rooms were painted to give a complete clean look. I purchased my front door which Horizon installed, and David selected the beautiful sliding glass/screen door. I was pleasantly surprised with the new technology and how easily they glide open. You've heard the expression: "Be careful what you wish for." We had a lot of fun and fancy ideas, and hired some very good designers, who designed everything we wished for. Then we had to find a contractor that could be trusted - and that had the trades - that could execute on the project. Well, there's another expression that comes in: you can do anything you want with time and money. So: it took the better part of a year and a fair chunk of cash, but we got the bathrooms we wished for! The work was complicated, detailed, and subject to delays and expansions of scope that were out of Horizon's control. Due to termite damage to our house, we selected Horizon to work on wood repair and stucco the entire exterior of our house. We also replaced garage door, front window and entry door and add siding on the balcony and on both sides of the garage. Mark is very good at showing up on time and making sure they stick to a schedule. We have had both the exterior and master bathroom done by them. I love that is something isn't right Enna and the team will make sure that it is fixed. Mark has good suggestions if you need help in certain areas like when we were trying to figure out what type of siding we wanted. Mark will come by pretty much every time there is a new thing being done like tile, demo, painting so you know the job will be done right. Make sure your design is exactly what you want as they will charge design change fees. Sometimes changes have to be made because something doesn't look right so that is the one thing I didn't like. David Eskin, one of the Company's owners served as our Project Manager. It was beneficial to have someone with a vested interest in the Company be directly involved in our project. The fact that the company is family owned was one of the reasons we selected Horizon. David was always attentive to our inquiries and questions. Workmanship: The quality of the work product and the level of craftsmanship was excellent. The project's main features were added electrical, custom-built cabinetry, and tile faced walls and counters. All features were done to outstanding quality. Professionalism: All the people involved with Horizon and the contractors were respectful and great to deal with. They were always open to suggestions as well as making recommendations. Each phase of the project was done with respect to our home and maintaining cleanliness. Lessons Learned: Tiles - The tile used from the project was selected from the sample in the showroom. The sample tile did not have any "Blemishes" that ultimately showed up in installed tiles as part of the tile's design. In the end it is not all that noticeable, but we would have liked the option to possibly select another design. Lesson Learned; always look at the full case of tiles. Schedule: the time of signing the contract in the early part of November we would not have expected that the project would not be completed until mid-January. Some of the schedule extension was because we made some changes to the original scope. Other aspects were the difficulty in sequencing each project phase due to lack of availability of contractors on a timely basis. Also attempting completion during the holidays had its challenges. This is the second time we have hired OC Horizon to work on our home. We hired them again because we trust Mark Besnos and his team to complete the project correctly, timely and safely. The back office is super nice and they make sure to communicate scheduling, payments, and answer any questions. Due to external moisture seeping into the house, we asked OC Horizon to remove adjacent planters surrounding parts of the house. They demoed and installed new matching pavers. The front of the house needed a facelift. They removed damaged wood trim, applied various paper coats and re-stucco. They installed and painted a new front door. They painted the entire house. They installed 22 new windows, covered up existing small windows not needed, changed one slider into a single window. Our rain gutters needed to be replaced. Mark suggested replacing with aluminum, a more durable product. Mark makes site visits often throughout the project, inspecting work and making corrections if not done according to his standards. He also makes suggestions regarding structural or safety items. He worked with us in figuring out a few aesthetic items. He worked with us to make sure all work was completed to our satisfaction. If you are considering Horizon Construction, I recommend do not. I contracted with them for a whole home remodel including a kitchen remodel and the add of a bedroom, bathroom and laundry room 6 years ago and I haven't stopped cursing them since. We had all sorts of problems during construction when workers made decisions that we didn't like and ended having to pay to have corrected. We even had an internal barn type sliding door that fell off the supports during the final review of work. By this time we were so upset with Horizon we signed off on work and told them to go away deciding to just live with the host of cosmetic issues. Then 2 years ago I decided to add Alexa wall sockets and receptacles and found out the NONE of the ones Horizon installed had a ground wire connection. Now LED undercounter lights we were told would last forever have stopped working and the AC to DC transformer for them is buried in the wall behind kitchen tile. Last few payments were held due to discrepancies with JADU and dishonest practices regarding shower heads (restricted from rights to select products of choice up to $150 for each bathrooms. and windows (overcharged and poor work quality). Project extended out 1 month longer just for the window installation. 4 changed order was ridiculous extended out 1 during June. The project was already 5 months late. Show yelp the picture of proof Enna. 4. The house was unoccupied and Mike was the only one with the lock box code. Many items were taking from my property during that period no other contractors involved. I only asked for broom and ladder for reimbursement as a minimal bc I really needed them at that moment. Mike should be well aware of what he did. Also my wheel barrow shovel and rake were returned at the corner of my backyard during the jadu work. That should tell you something! 5. Also as a solution to keep me from doing reviews and complaints on public sites you propose a settlement on the final payments with $600 deduction and want me to sign a document to protect your business and shut me up. this is my second project im doing with Horizon , i was working with David first on upgrading our older bathroom earlier this year , it was hard to find a contractor that agreed to work on this project and to even show up , i contacted horizon , David came and the process was pretty smooth gong forward , the working man were nice and new what they were doing . we are very happy with the bathroom we did ! the 2nd project we contacted horizon was to replace an old beam that held the roof line that was falling apart , David came quickly to help us although it was pricier then we thought , we had to fix it before the rainy season , and Horizon took care of that quickly for us and even painted it for us at no extra cost ! we would definitely recommend Horizon & David to our friends and family read more

Excellent results! What was once a dirty, moldy, ugly bathroom now looks like a spa bathroom in a Vegas hotel; I'm still amazed at the transformation even now that it's been operational for a while. David was very responsive to texts, and always followed up to be sure things were going well, and even when I wanted a big, heavy mirrored medicine cabinet against his recommendation, he graciously had the backsplash tiles adjusted so the back wall could be rewired, then hung the mirror and now it looks great. At least I think it does. I wanted a particular finish on the cabinets, but he advised to go much darker, which was counter(get it?)intuitive to me, but he was absolutely right, and the dark cabinets contrast perfectly with the earth-tones and creams throughout the rest of the bathroom; I'm glad for his recommendation as it maintains the warm design while providing an elegant touch. I can be a difficult client, but David was gracious throughout, and his subcontractors all did a great job and were very pleasant. I also appreciate that while it wasn't the biggest project, just a smallish bathroom, he gave it his all and treated it like a project of any size; I was actually rejected by a couple of contractors because the project wasn't 'big enough' but David and Horizon gave it their all. Long story short, they don't call back when they say they will, they flake on contract signing day, and they have a complaint with the CA State License Board. The good... their initial customer service and advice from the project manager Mike won us over. We mentioned to them the 15% coupon that we saw in their ad (ask them about it!!) that they placed in The Home Mag and they honored it. However, they did seem very reluctant to do so at first even though our project total was well beyond the minimum in the ad. The bad... At the advice of my father, who is a retired contractor, we researched Horizon Construction on the California State License Board and found that there is a pending complaint against their license, with a court trial later this year. We pondered it, but decided to give them the benefit of the doubt, so we turned down other contractors and agreed to move forward with them. The initial contract they presented to us needed some minor amendments, and Mike told us he would go back and email us the amended contract to review and schedule another visit to sign. The ugly... Well an entire week goes by and I don't hear anything from Mike. I called the receptionist at Horizon, Diana, several times to inquire about it and she does her best to help me out, but ultimately she had a difficult time getting Mike to respond to us. She kept saying she would call me back, but never did. Our final appointment to sign the amended contract comes up, and literally 2 hours prior to the appointment I get an email from Diana saying they want to pull out because they found another bigger project to do instead. We wasted THREE weeks going back and forth to finalize contract details with them, and then they pull out at the last minute. I'm grateful I didn't end up contracting with this company because their lack of punctuality and communication would have driven me nuts! ... not the kind of company I want to give my hard-earned money to. read more

Our kitchen was remodeled by Mark Besnos and Enna at Horizon Construction and Remodeling. We chose them after seeing all the great reviews on the Houzz app. When we walked into their showroom, we were warmly greeted by Diana who made us feel very comfortable. Their product display made it easy for us to put our ideas together. Mark's crew did a wonderful job. Kudos to his crew, they really worked hard. Joel Chavez was a standout carpenter/jack of all trades doing much of the major work and tying together any imperfections and any loose ends that arose with a great attitude, expertise, and skill. He's quite an asset to Horizon. Antonio Garcia who did our fabulous backsplash and Tom Tzur was the electrician. Mark ensured that each phase of the project was done correctly and completed on time (about 8 weeks). We gutted and replaced our 80's kitchen (10' by 10') including the small dining area. We kept the same layout but switched the positions of the sink, stove and refrigerator. Enna helped with all the communication and paperwork and scheduling of the inspections, payments etc. Thanks to Mark, Enna, and their crew, we have a beautiful modern kitchen with two toned white and blue cabinets. Lessons Learned: 1. Stick to your budget and have extra funds for unforeseen things because for sure there will always be something that will come up. Understand what is and is not included in your contract. Don't just assume that everything is included. 2. Be flexible with your time. There is a general outline of what jobs will be done in order mostly during the weekdays but things may change with short notice. 3. Check that your materials/colors are in stock before you sign your contract. Due to the Covid and political environment, some materials may take longer to get or not at all. Some newer colors may cost more. 4. Look at your cabinet colors in every light. We first looked at an espresso-colored cabinet that looked like black in shade and looked light cherry colored under the full sun. 5. Know what crown molding you want for the top of your cabinets...having pictures will help. 6. Ask Mark if you are not sure of any detail or work that has to be done. Do not wing it...else any fixes may cost you extra. 7. For lighting such as chandeliers, measure everything. Use you tube to learn to measure your lighting fixtures. 8. Certain changes such as electrical, structural will require city permits and inspections. Your city's inspector's availability will cause delays up to one week. 9. Choose your grout color for the backsplash...apparently there's a ton of them (we were looking at different shades of grey because white is too hard to clean). 10. Choose your door and doorknobs ahead of time. Check to make sure it works including deadbolt after it's been installed. 11. Choose your baseboard style and size. 12. Choose your light dimmers switches. 13. Backsplash, one tile was an off color so be sure to inspect the backsplash, so if any tile is an off color you can ask to replace it with one of your other tiles, you will have extra tiles to work with. 14. Save a cabinet piece in case you need to do future touchups. You can go to the paint store to have them match the color. read more

We recently remodeled our Master bathroom and chose Horizon Construction & Remodeling in Fullerton to do the job. Overall, we had a great experience! We were given a fair price for our remodel and the quality of work was excellent. Everyone we worked with was polite, courteous and professional. Any minor issues that came up were addressed promptly and correctly. Our bathroom looks a million times better is a lot more functional. Bravo to David, our General Contractor, and his crew! We would definitely recommend Horizon Construction & Remodeling to anyone and we plan to use them again for our next remodeling project. read more

Would I rehire them again? Absolutely. Pleased with the overall project of our kitchen remodel. I had my own designer and we purchased our own cabinets from a 3rd party vendor and Horizon's team did the installation of these cabinets, tiles, island etc... Horizon's prices are a little on the higher side but I would rehire them for the following reasons: 1. Everyone from Horizon who entered our home was very respectful of our property. They made sure to clean up the work area before leaving for the day which I heard is not the norm so that was very much appreciated. They took care of all of the construction trash daily. 2. Communication with project manager David was excellent-- quick with replying and I appreciate that very much. He was really good about explaining each situation and hiccups that came along the way. The only negative comment from my experience with Horizon is that you (the owner) needs to be on top of the daily tasks that are to be completed. The carpenter (who was awesome BTW) forgot to do a few minor touch ups before leaving for the day and that ended up delaying the completion of the project. Had I been a micro manager, I would have reminded him about those few minor touch ups before he left each day and my kitchen would be been completed a week earlier. I am writing this review to state my appreciation for Mike Roppo and Horizon Construction. Mike came out and was our contact for the initial consultation. he was very thorough, with great ideas and thoughts about our project. Mike is a super friendly guy, and comes through as an honest person which we highly value. After a few contractors came out, we decided to go with Mike and Horizon for our design stage, including architecture and engineering. The timeframe on this ran out past what we were told, but nonetheless the designs were complete in the end. The bidding from Horizon was competitive, and very inclusive in what they were providing. Above all I am writing this review to really think Mike once again for his time and effort on our remodel. We will definitely consider them for our future projects. read more

This my experience with Horizon Construction and Remodeling, and why I recommend them. This is the second time that I have hired a contractor. The first time was a bathroom remodel, and it was a disaster, so I was very apprehensive about hiring another contractor. We needed to remodel our kitchen, so I had no choice. I did my due diligence and research and called three companies to interview. All three I had no prior knowledge of or experience with. Out of the three bids, there was a high, a medium, and a low. After talking to them one more time I went with the medium bid company. That company is called Horizon Construction and Remodeling. It turns out I made the right choice. My experience with this company is the complete opposite from my first experience with a contractor. My Project Manager was Mark, who did an outstanding job of keeping the project moving quickly efficiently. His crews showed up on time, were professional and did quality work, from plumbing to electrical to framing to painting to cabinets all were done to my satisfaction. If something was not done to my satisfaction (which was rare), I just let Mark know about it and he would send someone to either redo or touch-up the work. Mark would visit the job site frequently. I feel Mark is honest and has his customer's best interest at heart. There were a couple of times when he could have charged me extra money for items that came up during the project, but he did not. Like any project we had to make some changes along the way, and Mark is very willing to work with you to make sure that you get what you want. Mark will listen to your ideas plus he has many ideas himself. He helped us a lot with our kitchen design. They started my project Oct. 11, 2001. My wife and I were hoping to have the project done by Christmas. They had it done in 7 weeks in time for Thanksgiving! The inside staff is led be Enna. They make sure everything is ordered on time. They even arrange for inspections. They are very polite and efficient and responsive. We are doing our doors and windows next and we going to have Horizon Construction and Design do the work.
